Editor: Marye E. Steckley Revised 12/5/2006. There are many
surnames that I question the spelling. I have corrected no grammar, nor added
any information. There was a lot of reversal of letters which I did correct as
this was a consistent error throughout the entire text I proofed. Capitalization
of businesses i.e. I standardized as the majority were capitalized.

Francis B. Parsons, retired architect, and civic leader of Silver City, died early Wednesday morning at his home, 1822 Yucca Drive, following a brief illness. He had resided here for 16 years. Born December 6, 1890, in Newport, England, he came to the United States with his parents at the age of three years and was reared and educated in Boston, Mass. Mr. Parsons was interested in the prehistoric culture of the United States and especially of those pioneers who developed the Great Southwest. Coupled with this interest he had made a study and research of the early Spanish explorations and settlements that led to the colonization of the vast areas. He traced the part played by men of the Franciscan Order in founding missions and the part they played in the life of the natives; This research was a fascinating subject that New Mexicans should know about. The hobby of Mr. Parsons to which he devoted much effort was the taking of colored slides as he visited the ancient missions now preserved and those long abandoned. This study contributed greatly to the knowledge of the efforts of those worldly missionaries to convert the natives to Christianity. Activities of Mr. Parsons included service in the Grant County Archaeological Society of which he was a past president. past secretary of Rotary Club, a member of the New Mexico Archaeological Society and an honorary life member of the El Paso Archaeological Society, He also had toured and lectured in New Mexico, Arizona, Oklahoma. California and his native Massachusetts.
