MABRY: Former Gov. Thomas J Mabry of New Mexico, serving two terms in that office, 1947-50, died Dec 23 in San Francisco, where in recent years he had served on a federal mediation board. He was 78 years old. Funeral services and burial took place in Albuquerque. Publisher of a weekly newspaper at Clovis, Mabry was elected to The Constitutional Convention in 1912, being the youngest member of that body. He afterwards served as district attorney of the Second Judicial District, Justice of the Supreme Court and then became governor.

MACARTHUR: Carmarin Gay MacArthur, 36, died Monday, May 8, at her shop in Deming. She was born March 4, 1964, in Palmdale Calif., to Robert and Pegg Peterson MacArthur. She lived in Palmdale until she was 13, and then moved to Fairbanks, Alaska, where she resided for 18 years. She then opted for a warmer climate and moved to the Silver City and Deming area, where she had resided for the last five years. She was a very friendly and outgoing person. She may be remembered by some for selling newspapers outside of the post office in Deming. She also enjoyed arts and crafts. She is survived by her life mate, Calvin Reylea of the home; two sisters, Caren Weston of Silver City and Sue Zimmer of Ada, Ohio; three brothers; Rick MacArthur of Palmdale, Clay Taplin of Fairbanks and Rick Taplin of California; three children Gusto, Paul and Jaimie; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Her mother and father predeceased her. A private memorial service will be held later this week. Cremation was by Deming Cremation Services.

MACDONALD: Edith H. MacDonald, 82, died Sunday, August 19, in Silver City. Mrs. MacDonald was born in Indiana. She is survived by her brother, Arthur M. Hill of Vero Beach, Florida and two granddaughters, Deon S. MacDonald and Erin MacDonald both of Silver City. Memorial services will be held in Vero Beach, Florida at a later date.

MACIAS: Aurora G. Macias, 68, a resident of Fierro, passed away Tuesday in Gila Regional Medical Center. She was preceded in death by a son, Hector Macias; by her brother, Manuel Gonzales, in 1987; and by Terio Gonzales in 1948. Mrs. Macias is survived by her husband Antonio Macias of Fierro; three sons, Antonio Macias Jr. of Fierro, Juan Macias and his wife, Beatrice, of San Antonio, Texas, and Armando Macias and his wife, Norma, of El Paso, Texas; two daughters, Matilda Arellano and her husband, Adolfo, of Tucson, Ariz., and Ida Rios and her husband, Sammy, of Bayard; one brother, Alfonso Gonzales of Bayard; three sisters, Sara Castillo of Silver City, Natalia Jaramillo of Central and Librada Altamirano of San Manuel, Ariz.; and 14 grandchildren, Mark, Jerry, Randy, Johnny, Lalo, Jaime, Greg, Cindy, Angela, Steven, Jeffery, Alexandro, Sammy and Gabriel. Visitation will be Thursday from 2-4 p.m. in the chapel of the Wheeler Funeral Home with rosary being recited at 7 p.m., also in the chapel. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in the Fierro Catholic Church with the Rev. Ricardo Hinojal as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Silver City Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mark Macias, Jerry Macias, Jeffery Arzola, Johnny Macias, Lalo Macias and Greg Macias. Honorary pallbearers will be Steven Arellano, Alex Rios, Sammy Rios, Gabriel Macias, Jaime Macias and Randy Macias. Arrangements are by the Wheeler Funeral Home.

MACIAS: Clara A. Macias, 58, a resident of Bayard, died Wednesday, July 21, at Gila Regional Medical Center. She was born Aug. 13, 1940, in Santa Rita. She was employed at Fort Bayard Medical Center, where she served as a certified nurse assistant, and was a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church. Visitation will be Monday evening from 5-6 at Baca's Funeral Chapels, where the vigil service will begin at 6 p.m. Deacon Bill Holguin will offer prayers and recite the holy rosary. The funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday morning at 10 at Our Lady of Fatima Church with the Rev. Paulus Kao officiating. The rite of committal and burial will follow at Hanover Cemetery. Survivors include a son, Alfredo Macias of Fontana, Calif.; two brothers, Juan Simon Macias of Bayard and Silvestre Macias of North Hurley; three sisters, Romana Marquez of Bayard, Felicitas Macias of Bayard and Isabel Macias of Santa Clara; and a granddaughter, Leslie Nicole Macias of Fontana. She was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother. Serving as casket bearers will be Raymond Macias, Ambrosio Ambriz, Julian Ambriz, Arthur Macias, Michael Macias and Alex Martinez. Honorary bearers are all her co-workers at Fort Bayard Medical Center. Entrusted to the care of Baca's Funeral Chapels.

MACIAS: Hector Gonzalez Macias, 28, died Friday near Camp Pendleton, Calif., as the result of an auto accident. He was a communicant of the Catholic Church, a native of Grant County, attended Cobre High School, and joined the Marine Corps in May 1977. Mr. Macias is survived by his parents, Antonio and Aurora Macias of Fierro; a son, Gabriel Macias of Fierro; two sisters, Matilda Arellano of Tucson, Ariz., and Aida Rios of Bayard; and three brothers, Antonio Macias Jr. of Albuquerque, Juan Macias of San Antonio, Texas, and Armando Macias of Fort Irwin, Calif. Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. Thursday in the Wheeler Funeral Home. Rosary recitation will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at Wheeler Funeral Home and Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Friday in St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Fierro. The Rev. Ricardo Hinojal will officiate. Burial will follow in the Fort Bayard National Cemetery with military honors conducted by the United States Marine Corps. Serving as pallbearers will be members of the Marine Corps and honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Macias, Eulalio Macias, Tito Macias, Jerry Macias, Jeffrey Rios, Gabriel Macias and Greg Macias. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Fierro, N.M. 88041 in memory of Hector G. Macias. Arrangements are with the Wheeler Funeral Home of Silver City.

MACIAS: Mrs. Herlinda Macias, 62, of Bayard died last Thursday at Hillcrest General Hospital. Born in Mexico, she came to Santa Rita with her husband in 1921. Surviving are her husband, Julian Macias; five daughters, Mrs. Anita Villalobos, Los Angeles; Romona, Felictas and Clara, Bayard; a sister Guadalupe Ambriz, Palomas Mexico; three brothers, Abundio Ambriz, Santa Rita; Antonio Ambriz, Palomas and Jesus Ambriz Juarez, Mexico. Rosary services were held Friday evening at the Cox Mortuary chapel. Mass was said at 9 a.m. Saturday in the Catholic Church at Bayard and burial took place in the Hanover cemetery.

MACIAS: Jesus R. Macias, 75, passed away Sunday, Feb. 24, at Hillcrest General Hospital. Mr. Macias was born in Zacapu Michuacan, Mexico, and had been a life-long resident of Grant County. He was a retired car man for the Santa Fe Railroad. Mr. Macias is survived by his wife, Isabel V. Macias of Silver City, two daughters, Julia M. Hernandez and Rufina Macias both of Silver City, a son-in-law, Gabriel G. Hernandez, Sr., of Silver City, eight sisters, Inocencia Ambriz of Hatch, Rafaela Gomez of Phoenix, Ariz., Candelaria Levario of Tucson, Ariz., Anita Villalobos of Whittier, Calif., Romana Marquez, Felicitas Macias, Isabel Martinez and Clara Macias all of Bayard, two brothers, Silvestre A. Macias of N. Hurley, Juan A. Macias of Bayard, seven grandchildren, Virginia Hernandez, Rita Hernandez, Gabriel Hernandez, Jr., Rosemary Macias, Nicky Macias, Jenny Macias, Carlos Macias Herrera and one great-grandchild, Victor Lee Gabriel Macias. Rosary recitation was held Wednesday, Feb. 27 at the Curtis-Bright Chapel. Mass of the Resurrection was held Thursday at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Monsignor A. James Milano officiating at both services. Interment followed in the Hanover Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Silvestre A. Macias, Juan A. Macias, Agapito Ambriz, Ambrosio Ambriz, Pete Betancourt and Ramon O. Marquez. Honorary pallbearers are, Nicky Macias, Gabriel M. Hernandez, Jr., Jose Ornelas Villalobos, Octaviano Levario, Fabian Silva, Apolonio Serra, Jr., Pat Valencia, David D. Diaz, David Lardizabal, Frank Ordonez, Louis Delgado, Jr. and Ruben Ramirez.

MACIAS: Rosary services were held last Friday for Julian A. Macias, 90, who died Wednesday at the Hillcrest General Hospital, at the Curtis Mortuary chapel. Mr. Macias was a native of Mexico and had lived in Grant County for 46 years. Survivors included three sons, Jesus, Silvestre and Juan of Bayard; eight daughters, Mrs. Inocencia Ambriz of Hatch, Mrs. Rafael Peck and Mrs. Candelaria both of Phoenix, Ariz., Mrs. Anita Villalobos of Whittier, Calif., Miss Romana Macias, Miss Felicitas Macias, Miss Clara Macias and Mrs. Isabel Martinez, all of Bayard. Mass was held in Our Lady of Fatima Church in Bayard at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Burial followed in the Hanover Cemetery. Pallbearers were Manuel Orosco, Abran Chacon, Roman Rodriguez, Gilbert Polanco, Jose Arellano and Aurelio Sedillos.

MACKENZIE: Miss Jessie MacKenzie, 81, a native of Nova Scotia who had resided in Silver City at the home of her sister, Mrs. William Bader and her husband, for the past three years, died August 13. Miss MacKenzie had resided most of her life in Massachusetts and Providence, R. I. Survivors include a niece, Mrs. Richard Goldsmith of Silver City, and several other nieces and nephews. The Rev. Samuel Thompson, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, of which Miss MacKenzie was a member, officiated at the funeral services Monday at the chapel of the Curtis Mortuary. Interment was in Memory Lane Cemetery.

MACKEY: Dorcas R. Mackey, 90, of Albuquerque, formerly of Silver City, passed away Sunday, Oct. 25, in Mana Care Nursing Home in Albuquerque where she had been a resident for the past 12 years. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Bright Funeral Home with Chaplain David Strain. Interment will be in the Masonic Cemetery. Mrs. Mackey was born Nov. 7, 1907, in Hanesville, La., the daughter of John Reeder and Agnes Crumpler Reeder. She married Bob Mackey on June 2, 1930, in Las Cruces. Mr. Mackey preceded her in death April 28, 1968. She is survived by one daughter, Marilyn Davis Gigger, and her husband, Ron, of Albuquerque; three grandsons, Bob Davis of Orlando, Fla., Gary .Davis of Welborn, Fla., and Steve Davis of St. Louis; one great-granddaughter, Ashlyn; a niece, Margaret Russell; nephews, Bill DeGarmo and James Jarrett; and numerous other relatives. Mrs. Mackey was preceded in death by her parents; husband; five brothers, Willie, Byron, Dayton~ Gillie and Curtis; and five sisters, Cora, Ida aye, Lillian and Thelma. Mrs. Mackey was the youngest of 11 children. When she was a year old, her family moved to Loraine, Texas, where she grew up, attended school and graduated from high school. She attended Hardin Simmons University. She moved to Santa Rita in the mid-1920s, and started her teaching career there and in surrounding communities. She taught primarily the first grade. During her career she taught two and three generations of children until her retirement in the early 1960s. During World War II, while her husband was in the Seabees in Alaska, she worked in an airplane factory in San Bernardino, Calif. During her teaching years, she attended New Mexico State Teachers College, where she played shortstop on the Grant County All Stars women’s softball team and earned her bachelor’s degree in 1955. She was a member of Order of Eastern Star Martha Chapter No. 57 and a longtime member of the Santa Rita Community Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher, choir member, deacon and Ladies Aid member. Mrs. Mackey and her husband were part of the original group which built Camp Thunderbird on the Mimbres. She was a loving person who was of service to others throughout her life. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and those who knew and loved her. Pallbearers for Mrs. Mackey’s service will be Ron Gigger, Hal Gigger, LaRue Crum and Mayor John Paul Jones. MACKEY: Funeral services for James Herbert Mackey, 50, prominent Hillsboro rancher, will be held at 2 p.m. today at Hillsboro, with the Rev. Amos Gaume of the Deming Episcopal Church officiating: Mr. Mackey, a lifelong resident of Hillsboro, died at Fort Bayard Veterans Hospital. He served in the Air Force in World War II, was a member of the American Legion and Sierra County Farm Bureau. Burial will be under the direction of the Mahoney Funeral Home of Deming. Survivors include three Sons, Paul J., James E. and William H., all of Deming; his mother, Mrs. Dorothy Mackey, Hillsboro; one sister, Mrs. George Whittenburg, Deming; three brothers; W. R. Mackey, Alamogordo; H. H. Mackey, Sierra Vista, AZ. and Orville O. Mackey, Port Arthur, Texas.

MACKEY: Funeral services for R W Mackey, 67, Bayard, were held Tuesday at the Curtis Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Don Wiley, Western New Mexico University, officiating. Burial was made in the Masonic Cemetery. A resident of Bayard since 1910, Mr. Mackey was a veteran of World Wars 1 and II. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was employed by the Kennecott Copper Corporation until his retirement in 1964 after 41 years of service. He was a member of the Santa Rita Masonic Lodge; an original member of the Camp Thunderbird board of directors; on the original Cobre Board of Education and of the Santa Rita Community Church. Mr. Mackey is survived by his widow, Dorcas; a daughter, Mrs. Marilyn Davis, Atlanta, Ga.; and three grandsons.

MADDEN: George Marion Madden, 74, died Friday, May 18, Ft. Bayard Medical Center. Mr. Madden was born in Tucumcari, N.M., and was along time resident of Grant County where he was a dozer operator for Kennecott Copper Corp., before he retired. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Faye Madden of Bayard, two daughters, Billie Sue Weber of Riverton, Wyoming, Marlene Ashton of Le Grande, Oregon, three sons, Robert Medina of Bayard, Jim Madden of McCall, Idaho, Milton Lassiter of Evanston, Wyoming, one sister, Mrs. Jean Mitchell of Iron Mountain, Michigan, two brothers Paul Madden of Phoenix, Ariz., Milton Madden of Sixes, Oregon and thirteen grandchildren. Graveside services were 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, at Memory Lane Cemetery with Reverend F.M. Roundtree officiating. Arrangements were by Curtis-Bright Funeral Home.

MADDISON: Hilda Ingram Maddison, a Silver City resident since 1976, died at her home Monday, March 31, in her 90th year. Born July 4, 1907, in Gonzales, Texas, she was the third student at Texas Tech to earn a degree —in anthropology und, as a graduate student worked to establish the Anthropology Department Museum on that campus. She participated in an archaeological expedition to Mexico City in the early 1930s, while the Pan-American Highway was still under construction. She later earned a master’s degree in education and taught primary grades until her retirement. While most of her teaching career was spent in Albuquerque, she taught for a year on the Navajo Reservation and another year in Vcnezue1a She never lost her interest in anthropology, and helped establish the original Albuquerque Museum, which was located at the old Albuquerque airport. She traveled extensively in Mexico and the American Southwest, and shared with her family a special interest in the cultural traditions, history, and scenic beauty of hat part of the world. She and her husband, Roy Maddison, planned to retire together in Silver City, but he died before they could realize their dream. Determined to make a go of it, Mrs. Maddison came to Silver City alone in late 1976. She immediately began volunteering with the Silver City Museum, greeting visitors there six days a week until a full-scale volunteer program was established in 1985. She continued with receptionist duties for two shifts a week until 1993, when she retired from active service due to failing health. As an emeritus volunteer, she was recognized at various museum functions and she particularly enjoyed celebrating her birthday at the museum’s ice cream social each Fourth of July. Her 90th birthday would have coincided with the museum’s 30th anniversary this summer. With a strong sense of public spirit, Mrs. Maddison was an active participant in the life and progress of Silver City. She was a member of the Audubon Society, the Grant County Archaeological Society, the American Association of University Women, the Grant County Retired Teachers Association, the Silver City Museum Society, and the Unitarian Fellowship. She is survived by her children, Wilkie Talbert and Bula Maddison, and grandchildren, Nicholas and Annabelle Talbert, all of California; a sister, Laverne Sanford of Albuquerque; a brother, Vernon Ingram of California; and her nieces and nephews. Her close friends and caregivers, Dean Childress, Mary Sould, Judy St. Clair, Gene Booth, and Sandra Ybarra, made it possible for Mrs. Maddison to enjoy the quality of life associated with remaining in her own home, and with the attentive care of Gila Regional Medical Center Hospice and Helping Hands personnel, she was able to spend her final days there as she had wished. Burial has taken place at Memory Lane Cemetery. Services were by Curtis-Bright Funeral Home. A memorial service for Mrs. Maddison will be held at the Silver City Museum on Friday, April 4, at 5:30 p.m., under the care of the Silver City Unitarian Fellowship, and all her friends are welcome. Her family requests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Silver City Museum Society or to a favorite charity.

MADDOX: Holmes Gatliff Maddox--pioneer rancher of Hidalgo County passed away at his home on Texas Avenue Wednesday afternoon Dec. 8, after an illness of many months. Mr. Maddox was born May 24, 1876, at Van Augustine, Texas. He passed away at the age of 72 years, 6 months and 14 days. He came to this section of the country as a young man in 1897, and ran the San Simon Land and Cattle Co. for many years. Later he was with the XT Land and Cattle Co. He was also foreman of the Kimble ranch in Arizona and has had his own ranch since 1914 in Animas, New Mexico. In 1905 he was married to Mary Connor at Lordsburg, New Mexico. He became a member of the Silver City Masonic lodge and later the Lordsburg Lodge of Masons when it was granted a charter. He is also a member of the Scottish Rite 32nd degree Mason, and is also a member of the Shrine. He leaves to mourn his departure from this life, his widow, Mrs. Mary Maddox, two sons, Joseph Boyd Maddox of Summit, Calif., and Floyd Lee Maddox of Jacob Lake Arizona; one grandchild, Boyd Lee Maddox; three brothers, John of Austin, Texas, Frank of Lubbock Texas and Price of Colorado City, Texas; one sister, Mrs. Grace Henderson of Lubbock, Texas. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, December 9, 1948, at the Heather Mortuary with Rev. David E. Moore officiating. Music selections, “Rock of Ages,” “Home on the Range,” and “Shall We Gather at The River,” were sung by a quartet composed of Mrs. Edwin Brown, Mrs. “Herman Lelstikow, Sam Gus and Harry Galush, with Mrs. Sam Gass as pianist. Active pallbearers were Charlie Martin, Peter M. Chase, George Butler, Felix Gauthier, W. H. Walters and George P. Jeffus. Honorary pallbearers were Nat Gammon. John Curry. George Wright, A A Faulkner, Ralph Cowan.

MADERO: Rosary services were held last Friday at the Curtis Mortuary chapel for Mrs. Aurora G. Madero, who died at her home in Silver City last Wednesday. Funeral mass was said at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Vincent de Paul Church, with burial following in the Catholic cemetery.

MADERO: Frank S. Madero, 72, passed away at Hillcrest Hospital November 24 following an extended illness. Mr. Madero was a native of Silver City and had lived here all his life. Survivors include his wife, Ann of Silver City; two Sons, Frank of El Paso, Tex and Robert of Silver City; two daughters. Mrs. Virginia Deck  of Chula Vista. Calif. and Mrs. Julia Johnson of Las Cruces, N.M.; five grandchildren and one great grandchild two brothers: Bias and Fernando, both of Calif. Rosary services were held in the Curtis Bright Funeral Chapel at 7:30 pm. Sunday with the funeral mass being recited at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic church at 9:30 a.m. Monday. Internment followed in the Catholic Cemetery with the Rev. Father A. James Milano officiating. Casket bearers were Roy, Anthony, & Robert Sandoval, Simon Nunez, Joe Arrelanno, James Maestas, and Henry Moreno.

MEDRANO: Jose C Medrano, 77, passed away at his residence here in Silver City Sept. 8 following an extended illness. Mr. Medrano was a native of Villa Ahuthumáda, Mexico and was a long time resident of Gila. He was retired from the State Highway Department. Survivors include his wife Santos; two sons, Ramon of Cotton, Calif. and Gilbert of Silver City; four daughters, Mrs. Hortencia Maldonado of Gila, Mrs. Helen Monje of Tucson, Ariz., Mrs. Juanita Maldonado of Silver City, and Mrs. Natalia Trujillo of Anthony, N.M.; two sisters, Mrs. Juanita Ogas of Silver City and Mrs. Lupe Lopez of Bayard; 21 children and 13 great grandchildren. Rosary was said in the Curtis-Bright Funeral Home at 8 pm Monday with the funeral mass being recited at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church at 8 a.m. Tuesday. Interment followed in the Gila Cemetery with the Rev. Fr. A. James Milano officiating. Casket bearers were Vicente Romero, Manuel Maldonado, Guillermo Maldonado, Eusebio Abeyta, Benny Trujillo and Gilbert Medrano Jr.

MADRID: Abran S. Madrid, 59, died at his home in Silver City on December 31. Mr. Madrid was born and raised in Silver City and at the time of his death was custodian for the North Silver Elementary School. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Susie M. Madrid of Silver City; two sons, Robert of Silver City and Abran Jr. of Las Cruces; four daughters, Mrs. Esperanza Enriquez of La Puente, Calif., Mrs. Susie Holguin of Central, Mrs. Eugenia Gallegos of Santa Fe, and Mrs. Mary Frances Chavez of Douglas, Ariz.; 23 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; four brothers, Emeterio, Steve and Joe of Santa Ana, Calif., and Max Jr. of Silver City; two sisters, Mrs. Tony Sanchez of Silver City and Mrs. Louis Arostigue of Santa Ana; his mother, Mrs. Serafina Arostigue, also of Santa Ana. Rosary services were held Sunday at the Curtis Mortuary Chapel with the funeral Mass on Monday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Burial followed in the Catholic Cemetery. The Rev. Fr. A.J. Milano officiated. Pallbearers were Benjamin Gallegos, Manuel Holguin, Roy Chavez, Espire Murillo, Dionicio Ortiz and Bernardo Ornelas.

MADRID: Alex A “Sonny-Boy’ Madrid Jr., 32, of Siler City, died Sept. 19 in the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque. He was born Sept. 16, 1951 in Silver City, the son of Alex and Mary Remigio Madrid Sr. and was a resident of Silver City all of his life. Madrid was a member of St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church. He is survived by two sons, Anthony Madrid and Roland Madrid and one daughter, Frances Madrid, all of Silver City; his mother, Mary Remigio Madrid of Silver City; his grandmother, Consuelo Remigio of Silver City; his grandfather, Cruz Madrid of Roland Heights, California; two brothers, Danny Ray Madrid of Pico Rivera, California, David Madrid of Silver City; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Alex Madrid Sr. in 1970. Rosary was recited Sept. 22 in St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church; Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated Sept. 23 in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Both services were under the direction of Monsignor A. James Milano. Burial was in Hanover Cemetery. Serving is active pallbearers were Cruz Madrid Jr., Alfred Madrid, Genero Pedraza, Roberto Pedraza, Robert Pedraza and Genero Pedraza Sr. honorary pallbearers were Frank Munoz, Larry Rios, Felix Ortega, Jay Portillo, Rudy Ortega Gary Ponce, Richard Aguilara, Johnny Provencio, Mickey Grado Jr. and Pete Vigil. MADRID: Alfred "Freddie" Jaurequi Madrid, 27, died Sunday as the result of an auto accident west of Silver City. A life-long resident of Silver City, he was born Jan. 14, 1961. He had been employed as a driver for Price's Dairies. He was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. MADRID: Alfredo M. Madrid, 72, a resident of Bayard, entered into eternal rest Sunday at Gila Regional Medical Center. He was horn May 16, 1925, in Santa Rita. He retired as a mechanic from Kennecott Copper Corp. and was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Mr. Madrid served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He loved golfing. MADRID: Ana Maria Tafoya “Annie” Madrid, 80, went to be with the Lord Monday morning at Horizon Southwest. She was born March 28, 1918, in Las Vegas to the 1ate Juan and Domitilia (Maestas) Tafoya. She was a homemaker and was a communicant of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. She was a past member of the League of United Latin American Citizens and GI Forum. Mrs. Madrid was a loving mother and grandmother, and enjoyed sewing, baking, cooking, and arts and crafts. She was a very giving and happy-go-lucky person who enjoyed attending minor League Baseball games. She was a member of the staff at Horizon Southwest. Visitation will be this afternoon from 4 to 7 at Baca’s Funeral Chapels with the prayer vigil beginning at 7. Deacon Johnnie Perez will lead in the recitation of the holy rosary. He was born Aug. 21, 1904, in Rodey and had lived in Silver City for the past 15 years after coming here from Deming. MADRID: Billy M. Madrid, 52, of Las Cruces entered eternal life Monday at his home. He was born June 21, 1943 in Silver City and had resided in Las Cruces for the past 22 years. He had been a truck driver for the Whitfield and ONC Trucking companies. Survivors include his loving wife, Stella G. Madrid of the family home; two sons, Michael A. MADRID: Carlos Madrid, 65, retired Empire Zinc Co.: miner, died Saturday night in a Silver City hospital. Born and reared in Silver City he was well known in the mining district. Survivors are his wife, Lucia M. Madrid; seven daughters and a son. Rosary services were held Monday and Tuesday nights at the Cox Mortuary chapel, followed by requiem high mass Wednesday at 9 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul’s Catholic Church. MADRID: Catalina M. Madrid was born in Mexico in 1887. She has been a resident for 76 years. She was 94 years old. She is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Ramona Holguin, Mrs. Mariana Ramirez, both of Bayard, Mrs. Sofia Grado of Hurley, Mrs. Angela Gonzales of Silver City, Mrs. Jesusita Garcia of Las Vegas, Nevada; and is survived by three sons, Mike Madrid and Alfredo Madrid of Bayard.

Mrs. Madrid was born August 21, 1937 in Portagevill, Missouri, a daughter of the late Paul Pikey of New Madrid, Missouri and Vernie Dinwiddie of Pinos Altos, New Mexico. MADRID: Jimmy S. Madrid, 62, of Norwalk, Calif., formerly a resident of Silver City, entered life eternal March 4 at his residence. He was born Nov. 26, 1930, in Silver City. Mr. Madrid left New Mexico for a 34-year career in education. He taught school for 17 years at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School in Compton, Calif., before leaving for Valle Lindo School District, where he taught and was school principal for the last 17 years of his career. Mr. Madrid is survived by his wife of 41 years, Josie Madrid of Norwalk; a son, Michael Madrid of Whittier, Calif., daughters, JoAnn Madrid of Norwalk and Jeannie Madrid of Whittier; and three grandsons, Jeffrey, Michael and Johnny of Norwalk. Funeral services were held March 9 at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Santa Fe Springs, Calif. Interment followed the Mass at Rose Hills Cemetery in Whittier.

MADRID: Mrs. Josefita Holguin Madrid, 79, passed away Tuesday. Born in Case Grande, Mexico, she had lived for many years in Central. Rosary services were held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Cox Mortuary ‘Chapel. Mass was set for 9 a.m. today in, the Santa Clara Catholic Church at Central, followed by burial in the cemetery there. Surviving are’ two sons, David Madrid, Los Angeles, and Valerio Padilla, Superior, Ariz.; six daughters, Mrs. Theresa Padilla, Superior, Ariz.; Mrs. Mercedes Rodriguez, Los Angeles; Mrs. Virginia Campos, Mrs. Josefita Parra, Mrs. Julia Rodriguez, Mrs. Lupe Garcia, all of Central; 25 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Also a brother, Narcisco Holguin, and a sister, Mrs. Francisca Hernandez.

MADRID: Jose Omar Madrid, 6-year-old son of Joseph and Josefina Madrid of Deming, died Friday evening in Bayard. He was horn Dec. 21, 1979, in Silver City, and was a first grade student at Smith School. Visitation began Sunday afternoon at Baca’s Wheeler Funeral Chapels and continues there today until 6 p.m. Rosary services will also be held at Baca’s Wheeler Funeral Chapels, beginning at 7 this evening. MADRID: Joseph D. Andazola Madrid, a resident of Hacienda Heights, Calif., entered into eternal rest Sunday, Jan. 4, in California. He was born May 29, 1967, in California to the late Max Madrid and to Josie Andazola Madrid. Survivors include his mother, Josie, his wife, Emily, and a daughter, Natasha Madrid, of the home; and two sisters, Maxme Alvarada and her two daughters, Teresa and Christina, and Jeannie Garcia and her husband, Kiki, and their son Max.

MADRID: Jose B. Madrid, 71, well known retired miner of Grant County, died the past week at the family home in Silver City. The deceased is survived by his widow, Mrs. Rosa W. MADRID: Jose Eduardo "Eddie" Barrios Madrid, 78, died Saturday in Gila Regional Medical Center. He was born Oct. 20, 1910, in Silver City and was a lifelong resident. Mr. Madrid worked for Chino Mines for 14 years as a repair mechanic in the reduction plant, was a member of Local 890 of the Steelworkers, and was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. MADRID: A rosary service was held Tuesday in the chapel of the Curtis Mortuary for Juan B. Madrid 79, of Fierro who died Saturday at Hillcrest General Hospital. The Rev. Fr. Henry Saxon officiating and funeral mass was said Wednesday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Burial was in the Catholic Cemetery. The deceased was born in Georgetown, had lived all of his life in this area. He was a retired farmer. Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Juan Torres of Safford AZ, and Mrs. Marians Alvis of Los Angeles, Calif. 12 nieces and 18 nephews.

MADRID: Juan L. Madrid, 97, died Tuesday in Bayard. Mr. Madrid was a life long resident of Grant County and was retired from the Kennecott Copper Corporation. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Catalina Madrid of Bayard, five daughters, Mrs. Ramona Holguin and Mrs. Mariana Ramirez, both of Bayard, Mrs. Sofia Grado of Hurley, Mrs. Angela Gonzalez of Silver City, Mrs. Jesusita Garcia of Las Vegas, Nevada, three sons, Miguel Madrid of Bayard, Juan Madrid of Santa Ana, California, Alfredo Madrid of Bayard, thirty grandchildren, eighty two great grandchildren and seventeen great-great grandchildren. Rosary recitation will be at 7 p.m., Thursday, February 8, in the Curtis-Bright Chapel. Mass of the Resurrection will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church with the Reverend Father Esteban Lopez officiating at both services. MADRID: Mrs. Julia S. Madrid, 81, passed away at her residence here December 6 following an’ extended illness. Mrs. Madrid was a native of Garfield, N.M. and had lived in Silver City most of her life. Her husband, Louis preceded her in death in 1963. Survivors include four sons, Pete, Vidal, Edmundo and Lukie, all of Silver City; 19 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Sarafina Ybarra of Silver City. Rosary services were held in the Curtis Bright Funeral Chapel at 7:30 p.m. Friday with the funeral mass being recited at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church at 9:3O a.m. Saturday. Internment followed in the Catholic cemetery with the Rev. Father A. James Milano officiating. MADRID: Louis S. Madrid, 77, a long time employee of the Silver Liquor Co. died Wednesday at his home 401 S. Bullard St. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Julia S. Madrid of Silver City; four sons, Pete, Lukie and Mudo of Silver City, and Vidal of Los Angeles; one sister, Mrs. Raefela Mendoza of Clifton. Ariz ,three brothers, Tom Madrid and Ben Madrid of Los Angeles, and Frank Madrid of Silver City; 19 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Rosary services were held at 7:45 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Curtis Mortuary, with the Rev. Fr. A James Milano officiating. Mass was said at 11:15 am Saturday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with burial in the Catholic Cemetery.

MADRID: Manual L. Madrid, 74, died Sunday in Silver City. Mr. Madrid was born January 18, 1908 in Hillsboro, the son of Navor and Maria Luna Madrid. He lived most of his life in Silver City and for the 40 years was an active sportsman in baseball. For many years he worked closely with youth of Grant County, managing various teams such as the Catholic Youth Organization and Paul R. Gantz teams. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus. For a long period of time he was also President of Grant County Baseball Association. Madrid is survived by his two children, Manuel Madrid, Jr., a mechanical Engineer, of Denver and Lilly Madrid an assistant editor who worked several years with Franciscan Communications Center in Los Angeles; three brothers, Fred Madrid of El Paso, Felix Madrid of Tacoma, Wash., and Edward Madrid of Buena Park, Calif., two sisters, Mickey Muniz of Silver City and Isabelle Padilla of Long Beach, Calif.; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Rosary recitation was held Tuesday at 7:30 in the Curtis-Bright Chapel. Mass of the Resurrection was Wednesday, 9 a.m. at St Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Monsignor A. James Milano officiated both services. Interment followed in the Catholic Cemetery. MADRID: Rosary services for Mrs. Maria Luna Madrid who died Monday, August 12, were recited at the Curtis-Bright Funeral Chapel Thursday August 15 and the Funeral Mass was said at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Friday, August 16, interment services followed at the Hillsboro Cemetery. MADRID: Matilde “Tillie” Aguilar Madrid, 69, life-time resident of Grant County, entered into eternal rest Friday at her home in Silver City. She was born Nov. 26, 1924, in San Lorenzo. She was a nursing assistant at Med Square Clinic for more than 25 years. Mrs. Madrid was an active member of the Renew Group at St. Francis Newman Center, where she was a parishioner. She was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons, and was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. MADRID: Max S. Madrid, 67, a lifelong resident of Silver City, passed away Sunday at Gila Regional Medical Center. Mr. Madrid was born March 15, 1926, to Maximillano B. and Serafina (Salas) Madrid in Silver City. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army. He married Felicita Guerrero in Silver City in 1954. He enjoyed telling stories of his travels around the world. Mr. Madrid loved dancing and enjoyed life to its fullest. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed kidding family members and friends. He is survived by a daughter, Denise Garcia, and her husband, Henry, of Central; four sons, Max S. Madrid Jr., of Santa Ana, Calif., Billy J. Madrid of Las Cruces, Danny S. Madrid and his wife, Velia of Las Vegas, Nev., and Martin Madrid and his wife, Samantha, of Silver City; two sisters, Veva Sanchez of Silver City and Celia Alamillo of Santa Ana; 16 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Felicita Madrid, on March 3, 1990, and two brothers, Emeterio Madrid, in 1992 and Jose Madrid in 1991. MADRID: Funeral services for Maxmiliano B. Madrid, who died at his home early, last Friday morning after a lengthy illness, were held Sunday in Silver City. The remains lay in state at the family home on S. Texas St. prior to the funeral mass which was said at the St. Vincent de Paul Church at 10 am Sunday with the Rev. Fr. John P. Linnane officiating. Burial was in the Silver City Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Cox Mortuary. Mr. Madrid, who plied the trade of blacksmith in this community for more than 40 years, has resided here for the past 52 years. He was 62 years of age. Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Antonio Sanchez and Mrs. Lotus Arostique, both of Silver City; five sons, Abram, Emeteri, Esebari, Max, Jr. and Jose; four brothers; Louise Frank, Torn and Ben Madrid; a sister Mrs. Rafaela Mendoza, 26 grandchildren and four-great grandchildren.

MADRID: Michael Anthony Madrid, 27, a resident of Silver City, passed away Wednesday. Survivors include his mother, Lillian Jacquez of Silver City; his father, Juan Madrid, also of Silver City; his stepfather, Robert O. Jacquez Sr.; two brothers, Robert Jacquez, and Ronald Madrid and his wife, Anna, and their three children, Sorina, Kourtney and Christopher, all of Silver City; his paternal grandparent, Luz Madrid; his maternal grandparents, Edward Mendoza and Sally Samaniego; and numerous uncles and aunts. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonardo C. Madrid, in 1978, and by two sons, Andrew P. Madrid and Bill Madrid. MADRID: Mrs. Petrocenia S. Madrid, 63, wife of Frank Madrid, and a life-long resident of Silver City, passed away Sunday at the family home after a long illness. Surviving besides her husband are three sons, Manuel, Bakersfield, Calif., Leo and Rudy, Silver City; four daughters, Mrs. Pedro Morales, Santa Rita; Mrs. H. Smithson, Bakersfield, Calif.; Mrs. Daniel Madero, Los Angeles; Mrs. Pedro Salas, Bayard; 25 grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. Rosary was held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Cox Mortuary chapel, the Rev. Fr. Julian Ordonez officiating. Mass was said at 9 a. m. today at St. Vincent de Paul’s’ Catholic Church. The body will rest in state at the Cox chapel until 4 o’clock this afternoon, followed by burial in the Catholic cemetery.

MADRID: Polly Becerra Madrid, wife of Willie C. Madrid, and mother of Michelle B. Madrid and Judith (Ray) Wheeler, all of Tucson, Ariz., passed away Sunday. She is also survived by numerous relatives and friends. She was a former resident of Silver City, where she worked as a retail clerk at Paul R. Gantz Jeweler for many years. Funeral services will be held at South Lawn Mortuary in Tucson on Thursday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Louis Vaillarre officiating. Interment will be at the same location.

MADRID: Refugia G. Madrid, 91, died Friday, Jan. 25, in Hurley. Mrs. Madrid was a life long resident of Grant County where she was a member of the Infant Jesus Catholic Church of Hurley. She is survived by three daughters, Estella M. Carreon, Adelina M. Lopez and Andrea M. Baca all of Hurley, two sons, Fidel G. Madrid of Hurley, Raymundo G. Madrid of Chihuahua, Mexico, several nieces and nephews, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Rosary recitation was held Tuesday evening in the Curtis-Bright Chapel. Mass of the Resurrection was held Wednesday morning at the Infant Jesus Catholic Church in Hurley with the Reverend Father Gustavo Oquendo officiating. Burial followed in Hurley Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Frank Lopez, Jr., Rudy Baca, Gerald Baca, Raul Carreon, Jr., Alfred Majalca, Jr. and Dean Baca.

MADRID: Richard S. Madrid, 33, shipping clerk for the Santa Fe Railway in Silver City, was killed early Sunday morning on Highway 180 south of White Signal, when his car went out of control and rolled over several times, he suffered a fractured skull and crushed chest. Two passengers riding with him escaped with minor injuries. The accident was investigated by State Patrolman Billy Miller and Sheriff Owen C. Matthews. Madrid’s death was the sixth highway fatality in Grant County this year Rosary services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Cox Mortuary chapel, followed by Requiem High Mass at 9 a. m. Wednesday at St. Vincent de Paula Catholic Church, the Rec. A. Vonder Haar officiating. Burial was at 4 p.m. in the Catholic cemetery. American Legion Post No, 18 conducted graveside services with military honors, Born in Silver City, Madrid served overseas in the armed forces in l942-43. He was a member of the American Legion, and the Knight of Columbus. Surviving are his wife Mrs. Matilda A. Madrid a son, Richard Jr. a daughter, Rosemary, his parents Mr. and Mrs. Louise Madrid and four brothers, Edmundo, Locadio, Fidel, and Pete Madrid Garcia Santos Valverde.

MADRID: Mrs. Rosella Horcasitas Madrid, a life long resident of Central died April 10 in the Bernalillo County Hospital in Albuquerque following an illness of some duration. Mrs. Madrid, a graduate of Western New Mexico University, was a member of the teaching staff of the Bayard Elementary School. Survivors include her husband, Hector Madrid, and a son, Hector, Jr., of Central; her parents Mr. and Mrs. William Horcasitas of Central; sisters, Mrs. Anna Perez of Central and Mrs. Christy Johnson of Silver City; and grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Alex Triviz of Albuquerque. Funeral Mass was said April 15 in the Santa Clara Catholic Church in Central, with the Rev. Paul Ragazinskas officiating. Burial will be in the Central Cemetery. Pallbearers were Manuel Lucero, Anthony Romero, Sal Beltran, Abe Armendariz, Rod Johnson and Danny Perez.

MADRID: Rudy C. Madrid, 29, died Friday evening in Silver City. Rudy was born in Silver City and was a lifelong resident. He was a communicant of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and was employed at T.G. &.Y. in Silver City. Rudy is survived by one daughter, Sandra Angelica Madrid of Silver City; one son, Oscar Madrid of Silver City; his parents, Rudy S. and Chenny Madrid of Silver City; three sisters, Viola Marquez of Tyrone, Olga Chavez of Silver City and Evie Madrid of Albuquerque; one brother, Bobby Michael Madrid of Silver City; his maternal grandmother, Simona Costales of Albuquerque and his paternal grandmother, Natalia Montejio of Bakersfield, Calif. Rosary recitation was held Monday and Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated Tuesday. Both services were held at St. Vincent's Catholic Church in Silver City with Mon. A. James Milano officiating. MADRID: Mrs. Senarla Madrid, 57, long time resident of North Hurley, died at her home Monday. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Rebecca Garcia and Mrs. Ramona Amador of Hurley and two sons, Epimenio Dominguez, San Pedro, Calif., and Romaldo Dominguez, Hatch. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Rosary services were held at the Cox Mortuary Chapel Tuesday at 7PM followed by rosary Wednesday night at the family home. MADRID: Susie Mawson Madrid, 70, a lifetime Silver City resident, entered life eternal Thrusday at Gila Regional Medical Center. She was born Feb. 13, 1912. Mrs. Madrid was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, and was a homemaker. Calling hours will be from 2-4 Sunday afternoon in Baca's Hillcrest Funeral Chapels. The prayer vigil will be held Sunday evening at 7 in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, where the funeral liturgy will be held Monday morning at 11:30. The Rev. George Reynolds will officiate. The rite of committal will follow at the Silver City Catholic Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest. MADRID: Valeria Trujillo Madrid, 64, a native of San Lorenzo, entered eternal rest Saturday in San Jose, Calif., where she resided most of her life. She was born Aug. 2, 1926, in San Lorenzo to Lorenzo and Rafaela Trujillo and was a homemaker. Rosary services will be held tonight at 7 and the funeral Mass will be said at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in San Jose. A memorial rosary will be held in the San Lorenzo Catholic Church Wednesday at 7 p.m. with Deacon Alfonso Alvarado officiating. Survivors include two sons, Lorenzo and Arturo Madrid Jr. of San Jose; five daughters, Margie and Mary Ann of San Jose, Alice Urena of Kerman, Calif., and Sally Rasa and Grace Lopez, also of San Jose; several grandchildren; and two brothers, Cuco Trujillo of San Jose and Chano Trujillo of Washington. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arturo W. Madrid, in 1975, and by a granddaughter.

MADRID: Victoriana P. Madrid, 86, passed away Monday, Jan. 28, in Silver City. Mrs. Madrid was born in Central and had been a life-long resident of Grant County. She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Juana Thomas of Central, nine grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Rosary recitation was held Thursday, Jan. 31at the Curtis-Bright Chapel. MADRID: Vidal Serna Madrid, Sr., 67, a lifelong resident of Silver City died Tuesday, July 18 at Hillcrest General Hospital following a brief illness. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Bertha Pedroza of Ft. Bayard, three sons, Vidal Madrid, Jr., of Silver City, Sammy Madrid of Los Angeles, Calif., Bill Madrid of Las Cruces, 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. MAES: Elena Maes, 25, a resident of Albuquerque for seven years, died Thursday, June 3. She was born March 8, 1974, in Ely, Nev. She is survived by her father, Benito Maes, mother, Lucille, Maes, and brother, Steven Dominic Maes, and wife Kristee, all of Albuquerque, sister, JoAnna Maes of Los Angeles; niece, Kayleigh Maes; grandmother, Mari Armijo; and many other family members and friends. Ms. Maes resided in Silver City, for 14 years. Her achievements were in music and songwriting. She majored in, psychology at the University, of New Mexico and was member of numerous academic fraternities. She enjoyed playing golf, singing, traveling and skiing. She will be deeply missed by family, and friends. Though she was, only here a short time, she, brightened many lives. A| memorial rosary will be recited Monday at 7 p.m. at French Mortuary. A memorial Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 9:30 am at St. Charles Borromeq Catholic Church. Private interment of cremains will take place Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Lupus Foundation of America New Mexico Chapter, Albuquerque.  French Mortuary of Albuquerque is in charge of arrangements.

MAES: Santos Maes, 76 years of age, died Oct. 21 at Ft. Bayard Medical Center. Funeral mass and burial were held Friday, Oct. 23at 12 a.m. at the Santa Clara Church in Central. Survivors of Mr. Maes include his sister, Cecilia Prokosch; sister-in-law, Frances R. Maes; a nephew, Joe Maes; nieces, Theresa Duran, Celine Livengood, all of Santa Fe and a niece, Consuelo Culter of Vacaville, Calif. All arrangements were under the direction of the Wheeler Funeral Home.

MAESTAS: Ruben F. Maestas, 50, a resident of Bayard, entered eternal rest Monday at Gila Regional Medical Center. He was born Oct. 10, 1946, to Francisco and Bessie Maestas. Mr. Maestas was the training coordinator for the human resources department of Phelps Dodge Corp. and had worked at the Silver City Fire Department some years back. He was a communicant of Out Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Bayard. Visitation has been scheduled for Monday afternoon beginning at 2 at Baca’s Funeral Chapels. The vigil will begin at 7 with Deacon Johnnie Perez reciting the holy rosary. The funeral liturgy will be celebrated Tuesday morning at 10 at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Bayard with the Rev. Paulus Kao officiating. Cremation will follow the scheduled services. Survivors include his parents Francisco and Bessie Maestas of Bayard; his wife, Yunia Maestas of the home; two sons, Joe Maestas and his wife, Brenda. of Playas, and Matt Maestas of Las Cruces; two daughters, Tina Drybread and her husband, Dale, and Shannon Gideon and her husband, Oscar, all of Playas; a brother, Adolfo Maestas, and his wife, Jessica, of Silver City; and seven grandchildren. MAGDALENO: Mrs. Elena C. Magdaleno, 63, died at her home here in Silver City March 25 after a brief illness. Mrs. Magdaleno was born in Pinos Altos, and had resided here her entire life. She is survived by her husband, Simon Magdaleno of Silver City; on son, Donnie Magdaleno of Silver City; three grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Jose Canway of Watsonville, Calif., and two brothers, Pete Carbajal of Silver City and Rafael Carbajal of Los Angeles, Calf. Rosary services were recited Sunday evening at 7:30 p.m. in the Curtis-Bright Funeral Chapel. Burial Mass was recited in St. Vincent de Pal Catholic Church Monday morning at 9:30 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. A James Milano officiating. Interment followed in the Catholic Cemetery.

MAGDALENO: Simon G. Magdaleno, 68 a resident of the community for the past 66 years, died Friday in Hillcrest Hospital. Mrs. Magdaleno preceded him in death last week. Mr. Magdaleno was a retired Kennecott employee. He is survived by his son Donnie and three grandchildren of Silver City, four brothers, Fred, Paul and William of Anaheim, Calif., and Joe of Livingston, Calif., two sisters, Mrs. Dee Jacquez of Anaheim, Calif., and Mrs. Pablo Herrera of Livingston, Calif. Rosary services were held in the Curtis-Bright Funeral Chapel Sunday evening at 7:30 p.m. and burial mass from St Vincent de Paul Catholic Church Monday morning at 9:30 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. A. James Milano officiating. Interment followed in the Catholic Cemetery. Casket bearers were Carlos Grado, Raymond Leon, Sr., Fred Lucero, Al Sanchez, George Baca and Henry Soto.

MAH: Fred Mah, 88, a well known member of Silver City’s Chinese residents and for the past 28 years engaged in operating restaurants, died Saturday. He is survived by three grandsons, Dennis Mah, Sacramento, Calif.; Clifford Mah, Los Angeles and Allen Mah, serving in the U. S. Navy, stationed at Memphis Tenn. He was a cousin of M. F. Lime of the Chef Grill. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Curtis Mortuary chapel. Conducting the rites was the Rev. C M Henderson of the Episcopal church of the Good Shepherd. Burial took place in the Silver city cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Joe Landrum, Roland Ball, R D Allred, Otho Allen, Emil Harrison, and Sherman Wong.

MAHL: Leroy Mahl, 86, a resident of Truth or Consequences since 1972, entered eternal rest Saturday at Sierra Vista Hospital in Truth or Consequences. He was born in Monte Vista, Colo., in 1903, where he was a member of the Baptist church. A former glazier, he was the former owner of the Monte Vista Glass Shop. Visitation was held Monday from 2-5 p.m. at the French Mortuary Chapel in Truth or Consequences. Funeral services were held today at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist church in Truth or Consequences. Interment followed in the Vista Memory Garden Cemetery. The Rev. Kenneth Stoner officiated. He is survived by his wife, Fay, of the family home in Truth or Consequences; a daughter, Janet Walker, and a son, John Alan Mahl, both of Silver City; a brother, Bill Mahl of Monte Vista; and a sister, Irene Mariacher of Denver.

MAHLER: Esther Marie Mahler, 67, passed away Sunday, May 3, at Horizon Southwest, Nursing Home. Private family graveside, funeral services will be conducted Wednesday in Memory Lane Cemetery in Silver City. Ms. Mahler was born July 8, l930, in Grand Rapids, Mich., the daughter of Ludwig Mahler and Hulda Roukala Mahler. She is survived by one brother, Dr. Carl Mahler of Oceanside, Calif.; two sisters, Hulda Kennett and her husband, Frank, of Bayard and Joan Woodward and her husband David of Tyrone area; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Wayne Mahler, in1941; and a sister, Martha Crosby, in 1990. Bright Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

MAHLER: Mrs. Hulda Mahler, 69, died Monday at Hillcrest General Hospital. She had been a resident of Silver City for the past 22 years. Survivors are a son, Carl W. Mahler of Pasadena, CA, four daughters, Mrs. Frank Kennett of Bayard, Mrs. Robert Crosby of White Signal, and Mrs. David Woodward and Miss Esther Mahler of Silver City; 13 grandchildren; and one brother, Wayne Roukala of Turko, Finland. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Curtis Mortuary chapel, the Rev. James Wayne, of the First Methodist Church, conducting the rites. Burial was in Memory Lane Cemetery.  

MAHLER: Funeral services for Louis Mahler, 65, who died at Hillcrest General Hospital on Tuesday, March 22, following a heart attack, were held Friday afternoon at the Cox Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Charles Walker of the First Methodist Church officiating. Mr. Mahler was a native of Germany where he was born on March 13, 1890. He came to the United States and settled in Grand Rapids, Mich., where he married Hulda Roukala. They have lived in this area for many years and in Silver City for the past ten years. He was employed by the Pennington stores as a butcher until about seven years ago when he retired. He is survived by his wife; four daughters, Mrs. Robert T. Crosby, Miss Joan Mahler and Miss Esther Mahler, all of Silver City and Mrs. B.R. Parker, Aurora, Colo.; a son, Dr. C. W. Mahler of Ontario, Calif.; and by nine grandchildren. Pallbearers were: D. Heesch, Chuck Deiter, Bill Deiter, Roy E. Dyche, Forrester Pennington and George Pennington, Sr. Burial was in the Silver City Cemetery.

MAIN: Jason Main, 6 years old, died June 17 in Silver City. Jason is survived by his mother Debra Main of Silver City and one sister, Vanessa Main of Silver City. Graveside services were held June 20 at Memory Lane Cemetery with Rev. Don Wiley officiating. Arrangements were by the Wheeler Funeral Home of Silver City.

MAJALCA: Alfred L. Majalca, 80, entered life eternal Wednesday at his residence in Hanover. He was born May 4, 1912, in Hillsboro to Antonio and Lazarah Luna Majalca. Mr. Majalca retired as a mill operator for the Empire Zinc mine. He was a parishioner of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church in Hanover. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying deer hunting with his son. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Alice S. Majalca of the home; a son, Alfred S. Majalca of Hanover; a daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Albert Ortiz of Brussels, Belgium; and brothers, Aldolfo Majalca of Hanover, Tony Majalca of Tucson, Ariz., and Henry Majalca of Norco, Calif. Mr. Majalca is also survived by seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Irene M. Lucero, on Aug. 1, 1986. A memorial Mass will be held at a later date. Cremation has taken place at Baca's Mimbres Crematory of Deming. Baca's Funeral Chapels is in charge of arrangements.

MAJALCA: Alfred S. “Sonny” Majalca, 59, a resident of Bayard, died Friday morning at Gila Regional Medical Center. MAJALCA: Edward "Sonny" Majalca, 55, a resident of Torrance, Calif., entered into rest Thursday at his residence in Torrance. He is survived by his wife, Betty, of' Torrance; his children, Eddie Majalca, Shelley Majalca, Valerie Majalca and Erik Majalca, all of Torrance; his parents, Adolfo and Celsa Majalca of Hanover; his Sisters, Lucy Escudero of Las Cruces, Evangeline Escudero of Albuquerque and Beatrice Bentacourt of San Diego; a brother, Bill Majalca of Phoenix; a grandchild: and many nieces and nephews. MALCOLM: W. J. Malcolm, better known to, his friends as “Tex”, passed away on Sept. 25, after a lingering illness. He left many friends to mourn his death, being known for his honesty and goodness to others. He was one of the first men to drive the mail stage over the Mogollon Mountains. Then for 25 years he was a shill boss in the Mogollon Mill and The Last Chance. For the past five years he has lived in Oregon with his daughter, Mrs. Arthur Burrell of Lake Creek. He passed away in San Clemente, Ca, where his son and daughter reside. Besides his wife, Mrs. Mattie Malcolm, he leaves a son, Charles Malcolm, and three daughters: Mrs. Marie Fuller of San Clemente, Calif., Mrs. Irene McCormick of Farmington, N. M. and seven grandchildren to mourn his death.

MALDONADO: Angela Marie Maldonado, 9, of Las Vegas, Nev., entered into eternal life Saturday, July 3, in Springerville, Ariz. She was born Sept. 27, 1989, to Bernie and Melissa Renee Garcia Maldonado. She attended Tom Williams Elementary School in Las Vegas and was a member of St. Christopher Catholic Church. She is survived by her loving parents, Bernie M. and Melissa Renee Garcia Maldonado; one brother, Bernie Jose Maldonado Jr.; two sisters, Sami Jo and Sandra Maldonado; her grandparents, Fidel Jacquez and his wife, Dolores, of Las Vegas, Ray Garcia and his wife, Isabel Garcia, of Las Cruces, and Epimenio Maldonado and his wife, Amelia; and her great- grandmothers, Thelma S. MALDONADO: Beatrice P. "Betty" Maldonado, 57, a resident of Silver C1ty, passed away Wednesday at Memorial Medical Center in Las Cruces. She was born March 3, 1938, in Honey to Lorenzo and Maria Pefla. She was the head cook at El Grito Head Start, where she had been employed for the past 17 years. She had served on the Head Start program board for 10 years and was a member of the League of United Latin American Citizens council. She was a loving mother, a special daughter, and a good friend to many. She is survived by her father, Lorenzo M. Pefla; two sons, Hyrum James Gandara and his wife, Maryann, of Bayard, and Leroy Maldonado of Silver City; five daughters, Yvette Valenzuela and her husband, Felix, Lynn Martinez and her husband, Espiridion, Dorothy Valenzuela and her husband, Eloy; Patricia Aguilar and her husband, Arturo, and Teresa "Bear” Maldonado, all of Silver City; 12 grandchildren; and her special friend, Chon Saenz. She is also survived by her brothers, Manuel Pefla and his wife, Ramona, Arthur Pefla and his wife, Susie, and Dickie Pefla and his wife, Lope. MALDONADO: Gonzalo Gutierrez Maldonado, 56, of Santa Rita, died Saturday, May 21 in Las Cruces. He is survived by two daughters, Cindy Duran and Dolores Maldonado of Santa Fe Spring, Calif.; three sisters, Dolores Bencomo, Josephine Trujillo and Camerina Andozola of Tucson and four grandchildren. Survivors are his wife, two daughters, Socorro and Nora, his other, Mrs. Manuela Maldonado, grandmother, Marcelina Maldonado of Silver City, two sisters, Florencia of Gila and Emilia of Santa Fe; four brothers, and a sister, Mrs. Hilario Polanco of Gila. MALDONADO: Jonathon Daniel Maldonado, infant son of Guillermo "Billy" and Nancy Maldonado of Silver City died Wednesday at Providence Memorial Hospital in El Paso, Texas. MALDONADO: Leopoldo G Maldonado, 75 died Sunday, Feb 6 in Silver City. He was born Nov. 16, 1907 in Gila, the son of Cesario and Manuela Maldonado. Mr. Maldonado resided in Silver City and retired from Chino Mines Co. in 1973. He was preceded, in death by his father, Cesarlo Maldonado, in, 1946; his wife, Manuela C. Maldonado, in December of 1974; his son, Manuel C. Maldonado, in April of 1981; and his daughter, Lucinda K. Kirker, in November of, 1982. He is survived by his mother; Manuela G. Maldonado, of Gila; his three, sons, Epimenio, Jesus and Cesarlo of Silver City; his four daughters, Helen Moreno and Ofelia Arellano of Silver, Ester Knagge of Marana, Ariz., and Mary Ann Montoya of Ponca City, Okla.: three brothers, and five sisters; 40 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Maldonado was born in Zacatëcas, Mexico on Dec. 13, 1907, and had resided in the Silver City area since 1915, where she was a communicant of St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church. She is survived by her husband, Panelsco Maldonado, of Silver City, four daughters, Manuela Valdiviezo of Lordsburg, Mary Vasquez of Silver City, Rosie Roberts of El Grove, La., Christina Jaramillo of Silver City; four sons, Louis Maldonado, Severo Maldonado, Aurelio Maldonado and Johnny Maldonado, all of Silver City; five sisters, Elvira Yduarte and Katarina Jaramillo of Silver City, Francisca Richarde, Juarez, Mexico, Felicita Quintana of El Paso, and Lupe Torres of Santa Ana; Calif.; one brother, Fefugio Richarde of Lordsburg; 25 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. MALDONADO: Mrs. Marcelina Maldonado 102, believed to have been Silver City’s oldest resident, died last Thursday at the home of her daughter Mrs. Juana Vasquez. Members of the family said she was 105 but a birth record in Las Cruces showed she was born there June 2, 1854. She was the mother of three sons, and two daughters. Surviving besides Mrs. Vasquez is a son Cosma Maldonado of Silver City and an estimated 50 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. For many years Mrs. Maldonado lived on the upper Gila River. Her husband died many years ago. Rosary was said at the Cox mortuary chapel Friday evening with mass conducted by the Rev Fr R A Vander Haar Saturday morning. Burial was in the Mesa Gila cemetery at afternoon.

MALDONADO: Manuel G. Maldonado, 75, a lifetime resident of Gila, died in his home Sunday evening. He was born Oct. 21, 1913, in Gila, and was retired from the maintenance department of the New Mexico Highway Department. He was a member of the San Isidro Catholic Church in Gila. Visitation began at 2 p.m. today in Baca's Hillcrest Funeral Chapels and the rosary service will be there at 7 this evening. Visitation will continue Wednesday morning at 9 in the San Isidro Catholic Church in Gila until 10:30 a.m. at which time the Mass of the Christian burial will be celebrated. The Rev. Bill Mayer will officiate and interment will follow in the family cemetery. She was born Nov. 30, 1881 the daughter of Eusebio Gomez and Brijida Sanchez Gomez. Mrs. Maldonado is survived by five daughters, Florencia Maldonado of Gila, Emma Borrego of Santa Cruz, NM, Avelina Polanco of Gila, Petra Munoz of Silver City and Pascula Chacon of Glenwood; three sons, Manuel Maldonado of Gila, Guillermo Maldonado and Porfirio Maldonado of Silver City and numerous grandchildren, great- grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Rosary recitation was held Feb. 2 at Curtis-Bright Chapel and mass of the Resurrection was celebrated Feb. 4 at St. Isadore Catholic Church in Gila, with Mon. , A.
