LA BRIERE: Mrs. John L. La Briere, 87, died April 7 in Albuquerque, where she had been visiting members of her family. Mrs. La Briere had been in failing health since a fall in February when she suffered a broken hip. She was born on July 11, 1860, in St. Genevieve, Mo, her father being Maj. Curtis Ballard of the confederate army. On July 24, 1881, she married John La Briere and moved with him to Texas where they built the first house in Haskell. From Texas they moved to Oklahoma territory in the panhandle, later on to Colorado, and finally to Arizona, where they established a large ranch. Thirteen years ago, when her husband died, Mrs. La Briere moved to New Mexico, where she has resided ever since. She was a member of the Church of Christ, which she joined as a young girl She is survived by six children, Mrs. W. J. Stephie of Albuquerque; Zeno La Briere, Kenton, Okla.; Mrs. Roy Henry Silver City; Mrs. Charles Williamson, Albuquerque; Mrs. Ruth Porter, Los Angeles; and Ashley La Briere, California; two sisters, Mrs. J. H. Meadows, Dickens, Tex., and Mrs. H. S. Post, Haskell TX.

LA FLEUR: Mary Lee Johenning La Fleur, 51, or Silver City, entered into rest Friday at her home. She was born Feb 24, 1943, near Baltimore. Mrs. Fleur retired from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration as a financial analyst. She moved to Silver City in August of last year with her husband, who is a native New Mexican, and established a new home on Bear Mountain Road. Mrs. La F1eur was treasurer for Habitat for Humanity/Gila.

LAASE: Hans Karl Georg Laase, 79, died Wednesday evening in Hacienda de Salud. He was born July 16, 1910, in Hamburg, Germany, and came to the United States at a young age. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and was sent to electronics school where he became a Morse code operator and flew in B-24 aircraft when radar was first utilized in the Victorville, Calif area. Sgt. Laase also taught cadets Morse code at the airbase in Santa Ana, Calif. He was personnel manager for 28 years at the Pacific Union, a very prestigious club in San Francisco. He was a pianist and an avid stamp collector and was a member of the St. Francis Newman Center. Mr. Laase has been a resident of Silver City for about 11 years, coming here from San Francisco. Memorial services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in Baca's Hillcrest Funeral Chapels with the Rev. Bill Mayer and the Rev. Ken Schultz officiating. Private interment of the remains will be at Fort Bayard National Cemetery at a later date. Survivors are his wife, Helen Jean Mayo Laase of Silver City; two sons, Robert Karl Mayo Laase and Ross Siegfried Mayo Laase, both of San Francisco; a daughter, Carole Jean Mayo Laase, also of San Francisco; two sisters, Gertrude Westmore of North Hollywood, Calif., and Elsie Case of Encino, Calif.; one grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. Donations in Mr. Laase's beloved memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation. Entrusted to the care of Baca's Hillcrest Funeral Chapels.

LACER: Word was received of the death of Mrs. Irene White Lacer of Roswell. Mrs. Lacer was fatally injured in an auto accident near Vaughn December 31. She lived in Pinos Altos from 1941 to 1953. Mrs. Lacer is survived by her husband, A. C. Lacer of Roswell, two sons, John T. White of Las Cruces, Daniel R. White of Pinos Altos, two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Adams of Juneau, Alaska, Mrs. Ann Strohl of Washington, N.J. 16 grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was preceded in death in 1965 by her first husband, Leslie T. White. Services were held in Roswell and burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Garden Cemetery in Las Cruces.

LACKEY: Ms. Grace Lackey died August 11 at Hillcrest General Hospital. Ms. Lackey was born August 28, 1900 in Peach Orchard Kentucky. She is survived by one brother, Evan W. Chatfield. Ms. Lackey was a resident of Silver City for a period of three years. No services will be held. Ms. Lackey will be sent to Memory Gardens of the Valley. Arrangements by Wheeler Funeral Home.

 

LACY: Mrs. Margaret Virginia Lacy, 92, a pioneer resident of Grant County, died this past week in the Gila General hospital at Globe; Ariz. She had lived in San Simon, Ariz., in recent years. Mrs. Lacy was the mother of twelve children, five of whom survive her; three sons, Perry M. Lacy of Hurley, John D. of Miami, Ariz., and Robert H. of Globe, Ariz., and two daughters, Mrs. Paul (Lilly) Barns of San Simon and Mrs. Hurley (Margaret) Colbert of Globe. Other survivors are 23 grandchildren, including Victor Lacy, Lester Lacy and Evelyn Wright of Silver City; 72 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Heather Mortuary chapel in Lordsburg, with burial following In the Lordsburg Cemetery.

LACY: Marvin C. Lacy, 86, a resident of Fort Bayard, passed away Friday, March 13, at Fort Bayard Medical Center. He was born Oct. 30, 1911, in Cole Harbor, N.D., to Willis and Nellie Lacy. He was raised in Montana. Mr. Lacy was a 50-year member of the Carpenters Union. He served in the U.S Army during World War II, seeing action in the Philippines. Funeral services for Mr. Lacy will be held privately at Fort Bayard National Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Myrtle Lacy; seven children; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Entrusted to the care of Baca’s Funeral Chapels.

LACY: Dora L. Lacy, 75, a former longtime Grant County resident, died in Las Cruces Wednesday. Mrs. Lacy was preceded in death by her husband, Victor, in November 1988. Mrs. Lacy is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jessie and Eve Nichols of Lubbock, Texas. Mrs. Lacy was a member of Silver City Chapter No. 3 of the Order of Eastern Star. Funeral services will be conducted in the Getz Mortuary in Las Cruces Friday morning at 10. Burial will follow in the Masonic Cemetery in Las Cruces. Pallbearers will be Raymond Harris, Walter Meechem, Richard Dannelley, Jack Snodgrass and W.W. Westwood. Eulogy will be given by Wilburn R. Ashcraft and graveside services conducted by Las Cruces Chapter No. 20, Order of Eastern Star.

LACY: Myrtle Mabel Lacy, 96, formerly of Hurley, passed away Thursday at Fort Bayard Medical Center. She was born July 13, 1897, to Joseph Cicero and Susan Sarah (Wilson) Sanders in Solomon, Ariz. She married Perry Martin Lacy in Silver City on Dec. 20, 1916. The Lacy’s lived in Hurley until 1920 and then moved to Miami, Ariz. They moved to Texas in 1927 and in 1943 they returned to Hurley, where Mrs. Lacy lived until the death of her husband Dec.26, 1969. She then moved to Silver City to be near her son, Lester, and his family. She is survived by her son, Lester H. Lacy, and his wife, Sherley, of Silver City; a daughter Myrtle May Lacy Clayton, and her husband, Willis, of Albuquerque; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Colbert of Miami and Sally Coryell of Douglas, Ariz.; a brother-in-law, Paul Barnes of San Simon, Ariz.;11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Perry Martin Lacy, and a daughter, Evelyn Virgina Risinger, on Feb. 15, 1993. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Curtis-Bright Funeral Home chapel. A graveside service will follow at 1 p.m. Saturday at Memory Lane Cemetery with Bishop Jerry McDonald officiating. Pallbearers will be Lloyd Lacy, Steve Catanach, Steve Ford, Ray Sensanbaugher, Ronald Clayton and Adam Bruneau. Family members selected Curtis-Bright Funeral Home of Silver City to serve them.

LACY: Victor D. Lacy, 69, died Tuesday in the Veterans Home in Truth or Consequences. He had been a resident of Las Cruces but was born in Grant County on Dec. 1, 1919, to H.W. and Viola Lacy. He spent most of his life in Grant County. Mr. Lacy was a veteran of the U.S. Army in World II and served in the South Pacific. He was a past master of Silver City Masonic Lodge No. 8. Survivors include his wife, Dora, of Las Cruces. Masonic Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Getz Funeral Home in Las Cruces followed by burial in the Las Cruces Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dean Battishill, Jeff Glen, Jack Snodgrass, W.W. Westwood, Don Ruttan and Wilburn Ashcraft.

LACY: Willis Lacy, 68, of Bayard retired plant foreman of the Empire Zinc Company at Hanover, and in recent years, motel owner and operator, died last Wednesday night following a heart attack. He had been in ill health for a year. Born in Virginia, Mr. Lacy had lived in Southwest New Mexico for over 45 years, during which he was engaged in mining and business activities. He was well known throughout the community. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Lida Lacy; two sons, Victor, Silver City and Luther, Bellflower, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Arthur Myers, Sr., Lordsburg and Mrs. Donald Harris, White Sands Missile Range; four grandchildren; mother, Mrs. J.H. Lacy, San Simon, Ariz.; two sisters, Mrs. Hurley Colbert, Globe, Ariz. and Mrs. Paul Barnes, San Simon, Ariz.; four brothers, Perry, Hurley; Howard, San Simon, Ariz.; John and Robert, Globe, Ariz. Funeral services were held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Cox Mortuary chapel. The Rev. Harold E. Johnson, pastor of the Santa Rita Community Church, conducted the rites. Members of Hurley Masonic Lodge No. 55 conducted graveside committal services in the Masonic cemetery where burial took place. Active pallbearers were Monte Ray, Raymond Harris, Richard Beach, Ted Schroetter, Jr., Jerry Harter and Jeff Glenn. Honorary pallbearers were Al Hinkston, H.O. Robertson, Lonnie Morrison, Dr. E. LACZKO: Steve Laczko, 83.of Sierra Vista, Ariz., passed away Sunday, Dec. 13, at his home. He had been an area resident for the past 18 years. He was born May 1, 1915, in Pittsburgh, and was the adopted son of Joseph and Lydia (Hyosh) Laczko. He was raised and attended schools in Barnesboro, Pa. He met and married the former Bert Bacho in 1941. After working in area coal F mines for 29 years, Mr. Laczko moved to Bisbee, Ariz., in 1961. He worked for Phelps Dodge in Bisbee until 1972, when he was transferred to Silver City. He continued to work for Phelps Dodge until his retirement in 1980. His favorite activities were fishing, playing pool and darts, and being the No. 1 fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Mr. Laczko was preceded in death by his birth parents, Josef and Suzanna Boyosi; a brother, Joseph Boyosi; a sister, Marge r (Boyosi) Bicher; and his adoptive parents. Survivors are his wife of 57 years, Bert Laczko of Sierra Vista; a daughter, Barbara (Laczko) Yates of Sierra Vista; a granddaughter, Malyssa (Yates) Koch of Phoenix; and a great-grandson, Connor Stephen Yates-Koch of Phoenix, A family only celebration of Mr. Laczko s life was held Wednesday at Hatfield Memorial Chapel in Sierra Vista with Father Greg Adolf officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to a charity of choice.  Local arrangements were with the Hatfield Funeral Home Inc.

LAFFERTY: Anna Lucille Gray Lafferty, 91, longtime former resident of El Paso, Texas, died Monday at her home in Silver City. She was born in Bonham, Texas, to Dr. and Mrs. C.A. Gray. In 1918, she married Capt. Frederick R. Lafferty, a cavalry officer at Fort Bliss, Texas, and the marriage lasted for 68 years until Col. Lafferty's death in 1987. Mrs. Lafferty accompanied her husband to many military stations with living conditions ranging from primitive quarters in Lajitas, Texas, in 1919, to more comfortable accommodations in the Philippine Islands, California, New Mexico, Kansas, Virginia, West Germany and El Paso. While living in El Paso, she was one of the early members of the Fort Bliss Retired Regular Officers Wives Club. She had been active in the Women's Department, El Paso Chamber of Commerce, and the El Paso Symphony Orchestra Association. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Survivors are a son, Cmdr. Frederick R. Lafferty of Silver City; two daughters, Mrs. James R. Purrier and Mrs. Levin L. Lee both of El Paso; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Memorial contributions may be made to the El Paso Boys Club or to a favorite charity. Entrusted to the care of Baca's Hillcrest Funeral Chapels.

LAFLAMME: Ray LaFlamme 21, of Deming was killed Saturday in a one car accident on U S 180 about 11 miles north of Deming. State police said a passenger in the vehicle, Claude Rasberry 24 also of Deming was taken to the Deming hospital with multiple fractures and abrasions. Cause of the accident was excessive speed state police reported.

LAFOND: Mary Frances LaFond, 75, died Tuesday morning in Silver City. She was born in Simpsonville KY and was a longtime resident of Silver City. She was a communicant of St Vincent de Paul Catholic church was a member of the American Legion, Allingham-Golding Post 18 Ladies Auxiliary, the American Society of Retired Persons, and the New Mexico Association of educational retirees. Mrs. LaFond is survived by her husband, Nobel Lafond of Silver City; one sister, Etta Mason of Louisville KY; and one brother J D Jones also of Louisville. Rosary recitation will be held at 7:30 Thursday at the Wheeler Funeral home chapel and Mass of the Resurrection will be recited at 10am Friday at St Vincent de Paul with Monsignor James Milano officiating. Internment will follow in the Fort Bayard National cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be the American Legion Allingham-Golding post 18 honor guard comprised of Lynn Dinwiddie, Ray Martinez, Robert Madero, Vic Moitoret, Carl Mortezek, and Eloy Parra. Honorary pallbearers will be Florencio Garcia, Larry Portal, Maurice Granger, Dave Hoagland, and Ray McCowen. Wheeler is in charge.

LAFOND: Noble S. LaFond, 84, a Silver City resident, entered life eternal Tuesday at Fort Bayard Medical Center. He was born June 6, 1907. Mr. LaFond was active in the community, representing the veteran’s organizations, to which he was dedicated. He served with U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He also was involved with the Boy Scouts. Mr. LaFond was an assistant librarian at Western New Mexico University until his retirement. Calling hours were to be from 2-5 today at Baca's Hillcrest Funeral Chapels, where the prayer vigil will be held this evening at 7:30. The funeral liturgy will be held Friday afternoon at 2 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with the Rev. George Reynolds officiating. The committal rite will follow at Fort Bayard National Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest among his fellow comrades. Veteran’s honors will be accorded by Allingham-Golding Post No. 18 of the American Legion. Survivors include his sister, Sister Rosanne LaFond of Omaha, Neb.; a cousin, Ethel Mader of Oshkosh, Wis.; and a sister-in-law, Myrtle Jones of Louisville, Ky. Casket bearers will be members of the American Legion. Entrusted to the care of Baca's Hillcrest Funeral Chapels.

LAFONTAINE: Mrs. Josephine LaFontaine, 73, of Matane, Quebec, Canada, the mother of Mrs. George Cornali died early Tuesday at Hillcrest General Hospital following a brief illness. The deceased was a native of Ste. Marguerite, Quebec Canada and was the widow of the late Sam LaFontaine. Mrs. LaFontaine came to Silver City in April to see her granddaughter Miss Michele Cornali participate in the Grant County Miss Grant county scholarship pageant. After Miss Cornali won the county title, Mrs. Lafontaine remained to go to Hobbs to attend the state pageant which Miss Cornell also won, receiving the title of Miss New Mexico 1971. Mrs. LaFontaine became critically ill only two days before her death. Survivors of the deceased include four daughters, Mrs. Lorraine Bellavance of Duvernay, Montreal, Canada, Mrs. Julie Blame of Boca Raton, Fla., Mrs. Lucille O’Brien  of St. Johns, Newfoundland and Mrs. Jacqueline Cornali of Silver City; three sons, Wildred LaFontaine, of Matane, Jacques LaFontaine of Chicago, IL, and Sam LaFontajne Jr., of Duvernay, and several grandchildren. The Curtis-Bright Mortuary of Silver City will send the body to Matane, where funeral services will be held at the St. Redempteur Catholic Church, with interment following in the St. Redempteur Cemetery. Family members have requested that in lieu of flowers, offerings be made at the Curtis Bright Mortuary for the Special School for Special Children at Ft. Bayard.

LAFRENZ: William H. LaFrenz, former resident of Hanover, passed away in Albuquerque on August 4. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mary E. LaFrenz; a son, Rev. James M. LaFrenz of Holy Family Parish in Deming; two daughters, Mary Caroline LaFrenz and Mrs. Dale J. Massey, Albuquerque; a brother, John R. LaFrenz, Wheatridge, CO and a cousin, Mrs. Hedwig Berger of Silver City. Mr. LaFrenz was born in Central City, Colorado on May 25, 1889, and came to Grant County in 1914. He was employed at the Empire zinc co at Hanover for 40 years. Upon retirement in 1955 he and Mrs. LaFrenz made their home in Albuquerque. His interests were many, including his love for gardening and his talent as an artist was well known to many Grant county residents. Rosary services were held at the Fitzgerald mortuary chapel Tuesday. Funeral mass was said at St Teresa Catholic church of which he was a member on Wednesday morning. Internment was in the Mt Calvary cemetery.

LAGUNA: Steven Laguna, 38, a resident of San Manual, Ariz, and a former resident of Bayard, passed away Saturday. Visitation will begin at 4pm Thursday at Baca's Chapels followed by the rosary at 7pm with Deacon Alfonso Alvarado reciting the rosary. The mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated Friday morning at 10 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Bayard with the Rev. Paulas Kao officiating. Concluding services, with veteran’s honors, will follow at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Cemetery. Entrusted to the care of Baca's Funeral Chapels

LALLY: Mrs. Mary Alice Lally, 79, died at her son's residence in Santa Rita, Tuesday, October, 15. Mrs. Lally was a native of Deer Creek, OK., and was residing in Bellflower, CA. She resided in north Hurley for many years. Survivors include three sons, D.S. Frost of Lakewood, CA., K.W. Frost, of Santa Rita, and James B. Frost of Lakeside, AZ.; two daughters, Mrs. Charlotte Armstrong of Tacoma, WA., and Mrs. Pat Cauwels of Long Beach, CA.

LAMB: Leland H. Lamb, retired educator and brother of Clarence A Lamb of Silver City, died the past week In Hastings, Michigan. The deceased was a veteran of World War I and for over 30 years served as superintendent of schools in Michigan and Wisconsin. For three weeks prior to his brother’s death, Mr. Lamb had been at his bedside.

LAMB: Mary Catherine Lamb, 82, died May 29 at Ft. Bayard Medical Center. Mrs. Lame was born in Chicago and was a resident of Grant County for 30 years. She was a communicant of Saint Francis Newman Center and a member of the Silver City Women's Club. Mrs. Lamb is survived by two daughters, Doreen Weil of Silver City, Dorothy Meanley of Solano Beach, Calif., one brother William B. Hilliard of Bountiful, Utah, six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Memorial Mass was held June 8, at Saint Vincent DePaul Catholic Church with Monsignor A. James Milano officiating. Interment has been held at Greenwood Memorial Cemetery in San Diego, Calif. In lieu of flowers, memorial masses may be said at Saint Vincent De Paul Catholic Church. Arrangements by Curtis-Bright Funeral Home.

LAMBETH: Graveside services were held for Timothy Lambeth Sunday, June 7, at 2 p.m. at the Gila Cemetery with Rev. David Goble officiating. Arrangements by the Wheeler Funeral Home.

LAMOREUX: Staff Sgt. Calvin Lee Lamoreux, 31, a former resident, died Feb. 10 in Las Vegas, Nev. He was born April 9, 1958, in Mesa, Ariz., graduated from Westwood High School in Mesa, was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and was serving in the United States Air Force, Nellis Air Force Base, at the time of his death. Calling hours will be Tuesday from noon until 1 pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Silver City. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m., also in the church. Bishop Charles Hamilton will preside with Dr. Anthon Anderson as speaker. Concluding services will follow in the Fort Bayard National Cemetery with full military honors accorded by the United States Air force, Holloman Airforce Base. Survivors are his father, Delwin J. Lamoreux of Mesa, Ariz.; his mother, Delva J. Coldwell, and his stepfather, George Coldwell, of Playas; two brothers, James Lamoreux of Silver City and Edwin Lamoreux of Fort Bayard; two sisters, Gaylene Lamoreux of Mesa and Denise Knight and her husband, David, of Tempe, Ariz.; two nieces; one nephew; and several aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Theresa Lamoreux. Full funeral detail will be provided by the United States Air Force. LAMPERT: Timothy Andrew "Tim" Lampert, 69, of Buckhorn passed away Thursday, Aug. 5, at his home. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Bright Funeral Home. Family memorial services will be scheduled at a later time. Mr. Lampert was born Dec. 31, 1929, in Wapakoneta, Ohio, the son of Andrew Lampert and Otilia Maria Kritzer Lampert. He married Norma Hess on May 14, 1966, in Las Vegas, Nev. Mr. Lampert is survived by his wife; one daughter, Sharon Bauer, and her husband, Alan, of Houston; one son, Terry Lampert, and his wife. Darlene, of Botkins, Ohio; one grandson, Patrick Bauer of Houston; and numerous other relatives. Mr. Lampert graduated from St. Joseph Catholic School in Wapakoneta. He worked in the finance business for a short time. In the 1960s, he moved to the Phoenix area and worked with several auto- mobile dealerships as a salesman. Mr. Lampert worked at Ernie Brown's dealership in Silver City and Truth or Consequences. Mr. and Mrs. Lampert returned to the Phoenix area and worked for the Bill Luke Chrysler-Plymouth Dealership until 1986, when Mr. Lampert's health began to fail. In 1989, they went to Pennsylvania, where they spent two years, and then returned to Phoenix and, later, Safford, Ariz. Mr. Lampert had lived in Buckhorn for the past two months. He enjoyed country living and spending time with his dogs. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Grant County Humane Society or a charity of choice. Bright Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

LANAHAN: John Henry Lanahan Sr., 77, of Silver City, died Sunday at Gila Regional Medical Center after an extended illness. He was born in Maricopa County, Ariz., on July 28, 1909. He was retired from the U.S. Civil Service and had lived in Silver City since1971. He was an avid horseman and a member of the Optimist Club. He was a communicant of the St. Francis Newman Center Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jo Lanahan of Silver City; three sons, Lt. John H. Lanahan Jr. of the El Paso Police Department, El Paso, Texas, Lee L. Lanahan of Apple Valley, Calif., and Major Lenn M. Lanahan, with the U.S. Marine Corps in Hawaii; two daughters, Barbara Jo Ann McClay of Indiana, Penn., and Mary Agnes Rosato of Birmingham, Ala.; and four sisters, Anna Burleson of Sun City, Ariz., Katie Raphael of El Paso, Bridget Jones of Decatur, Ill., and Helen Tighe of El Paso. LANDAVAZO: A funeral Mass for George J. Landavazo Sr., 80, of Silver City was celebrated this morning at 10 at the St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Gallup. The Rev. Francis E. Stanfield was the celebrant. Burial followed at Sunset Memorial Park in Gallup. Mr. Landavazo was born Sept. 19, 1911, at Atarque, N.M. He died Thursday at Rehoboth-McKinley Christian Hospital in Gallup. Prior to moving to Silver City, he was a lifelong resident of Gallup. He was a retired concrete contractor. He was active in the Senior Olympics and was the state golf champion three times. He served with the U.S. Army in World War II as a captain with the lst Cavalry Division in Europe. Survivors include his five children, Margaret Munoz of Gallup, George Landavazo Jr. of San Francisco, and Ted Landavazo of Gallup, Vilia Landavazo of Waterford, Calif., and Jim Landavazo of Union City, Calif. He is also survived by three brothers, Toby Landavazo of Gallup, and Flavio and Paul Landavazo both of Freemont, Calif.; a sister, Nettie Santos of San Jose, Calif.; 19 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Landavazo, in 1983. Pallbearers were his grandsons, Edward Munoz, George Munoz, Ted Landavazo Jr., Derrick Landavazo, George Landavazo III, and Art Fink. Honorary pallbearers were J.B. Padilla and Michael Mazel. Rollie Mortuary of Gallup was in charge of the funeral arrangements.

LANDRUM: Beulah Jane Landrum, 90, died Friday in Coronado, Texas. Mrs. Landrum was born In Kingston, N.M. and was a long time resident of Grant County prior to moving to Coronado. She is survived by two daughters, Harriet Lindow of Farmington and Isabel Larremore of El Paso; one son, Floyd Landrum of Ruidoso; 17 grand-children, 20 great grandchildren and three great great  grandchildren. Funeral graveside services were held Monday, May 16 at the Memory Lane Cemetery with the Rev. Cliff Hutchins officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Bob Landrum, Dick Landrum, Steven Landrum, Jimmy Mitchell, Larry Landrum and Don Lindow. Honorary pallbearers were. Shin Landrum, Walter Mitchell Jr. and John Landrum. LANDRUM: Ida Ellen Landrum, 63, resident of Deming, died at her home Sunday, April 25. She was born January 2, 1919 in Hanover and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She worked in nursing care until moving to Deming in 1981. Funeral services were held April 29 at Memory Lane Cemetery in Silver City. Bishop Wayne Decker officiated. She is survived by two sons, Walter W. Mitchell Jr. of Clinton, Okla. and James Mitchell of Bayard; Her mother, Beulah Landrum of El Paso; two brothers, Melvin Landrum of Central and Floyd Landrum of Ruidoso; two sisters, Isabel Laramore of El Paso and Harriet Donahue of Kirtland; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The Wheeler Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

LANDRUM: Joe Landrum, 77, pioneer resident of Grant County, died Saturday in Memorial Hospital at Las Cruces. He went to Las Cruces several weeks ago to a lower altitude because of a heart ailment and had been with a daughter, Mrs. Ida Elliot, resident there. He was born in Lampasas, Texas, but had lived most of his adult life in New Mexico. For a number of years he was a member of the Chino Mines security force at Santa Rita. For the past 17 years he owned and operated the historic Southern Hotel, which he sold several years ago to a Houston Realty firm which bought the property as an investment, razed the hotel built in 1878 and retained the site on Hudson St. Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Beuian Landrum, of Flagstaff, AZ; two sons, Floyd of Tulare, Calif, and Melvin, of Fort Smith, Ark; Three daughters, Mrs. Elliot, Las Cruces; Mrs. Harriet Lindow, Flagstaff; Mrs. Isabel Larremore, El Paso; 13 grandchildren, one great grandchild and a sister, Mrs. Annie Wetzel, Big Springs ,Texas. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2p.m. at the Curtis Mortuary chapel, the Rev. Harold E. Johnson conducting the rites. Burial took place in the Silver City cemetery

LANDRY: Mrs. Isabel Landry, sister of Leo Wray of Silver City, suffered a fatal heart attack Saturday at her home in Selma, Calif. Mrs. Landry, whose brother, Edward, preceded her in death last month at Selma, was a former resident of Silver City. She is survived by her husband, Quincy, two sisters and two brothers.

LANE: Helen G. Lane, 90, a resident of Heritage House of New Castle, MD, died Sunday after an extended illness. She was born June 18, 1907, in Zionsville, MD to the late Mancher and Daisy Parker Glidewell. She was the 1925 class valedictorian at Pike Township High School in Indianapolis, and a member of the Church of Christ and Traders Point, MD, and in Silver City. Survivors include a daughter, Sarah Smith, and her husband, Tilmond, of New Castle; three sons. William Dale Lane and his wife, Christina, of Clermont, MD, Joe Edward Lane of Ocate, and Don Lane and his wife, Patty of El Paso. Texas; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vollie L. Lane, in 1977, and a son, Robert E. Lane in 1979. There will be no service or calling. Memorial contributions may be made to the Federation for the Blind through Hinsey - Brown Funeral Service, 3406 South Memorial Drive, New Castle, IN 47362. Burial will be in New Mexico at a later date.

LANE: All hope has been abandoned by Mrs. Athington White of this city that her brother, Ernest C. Lane, an Alaskan salmon fisherman, may be alive. The young man, 38, disappeared during a terrific storm near Ketchikan, Alaska while attempting to make his way to the safety of a shore cabin and the small skiff which he was rowing with a companion named Murphy has never been found. The incident occurred Aug. 25. Mr. Lane, a veteran of World War II, made his home in San Mateo, Calif., but each summer journeyed to Alaska where he engaged in salmon fishing. With his working companion, they were at a salmon trap when the storm, one of the many of typhoon proportions that have struck that area this past summer, caused them to strike for the shore. They were never seen again. He was known in Silver City, having visited here in 1946. Ernest C. Lane was born Sept. 8, 1912. He is survived by his wife; a small son, Richard Wayland Lane; and three sisters, Mrs. Wilbur Asbury, Phoenix, Ariz.; Mrs. George Warner, Lubbock, Tex. and Mrs. Athington White of this city.

LANE: Lina Lane, five-day old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Lane of Silver City, died the past week in Hillcrest Hospital. The infant was one of twin girls born at the hospital Sept. 2. Brief funeral services were held at the Curtis Mortuary chapel with burial following in Memory Lane Cemetery.

LANE: Mrs. J.O. Lane, mother of Dr. Russell C. Lane, passed away Tuesday at the family home in Comanche, Texas. Immediately upon being advised of her death, Dr. and Mrs. Lane left for El Paso where they boarded a plane for Comanche to attend funeral services.

LANE: Mason Donald Lane, 70, of Silver City passed away Thursday at Memorial Medical Center in Las Cruces. Mr. Lane was born in Chester, Iowa, and was a. resident of the Silver City area for seven years. He was a veteran of World War 11, having served in the U.S. Coast Guard and then worked as a production supervisor in the coal mining industry. Memorial services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Burro Mountain Homestead with the Rev. Ray Keene officiating. Service arrangements are with Graham Mortuary and Mesilla Valley Crematory of Las Cruces.

LANEHART: Dolly Lanehart, 73, of Silver City passed away Thursday at Gila Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Lanehart was born Sept. 5, 1918, to John W. and Ellen Skipper in Calhoun, Okla. She is survived by her husband, Leon Lanehart of Silver City; a daughter, Beverly Jean Stevens of Grandview, Texas; a son, George M. Johnson of Albuquerque; a sister, Lois Stephens of California; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Lanehart was the former owner of Dolly's Cafe in Silver City. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Curtis-Bright Funeral Home of Silver City. The Rev. Don Atchley will officiate. LANEHART: J. Noel Lanehart, former cafe operator in Silver City, died Monday in Bakersfield, Calif. Survivors include his father and a sister of Big Spring, Texas; two brothers, John and Leon Lanehart and a nephew, Frank Claxton, all of Silver City.

LANEHART: John A. Lanehart, 75, a resident of Alpine, Texas, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 3, at Alpine. He was born Dec. 22, 1915, in Vincent, Texas. He was a former resident of Silver City. Mr. Lanehart was a retired carpenter. Survivors include his wife, Maggie Lanehart of Alpine; a daughter, Marilyn Tibbets of El Paso, Texas; two grandsons, Bart and Bert Tibbets of El Paso; a sister, Ellen Damrom of Big Springs, Texas; and two brothers, Leon Lanehart of Silver City and Frank Claxton of Foristell, Mo. Memorial services were held Saturday at Pecos, Texas.

LANEY: William Leroy Laney, 74, a resident of Corona, died Thursday afternoon at Hillcrest General Hospital In Silver City. He was a native of Luna and had been a life-long rancher. Survivors of Mr. Laney include his, widow, Mrs., Freda Laney, and a son Lawrence Laney of Corona, three grandchildren; two brothers, V. J. Laney of Silver City and Roy E. Laney of Coolidge, AZ; and three sisters, Mrs. Fred Stacey of Clifton, AZ and Mrs. Inez. Street of Phoenix, AZ., and Mrs. George Ewan of Lordsburg Bill Slaughter of Alpine, AZ, conducted funeral services in the chapel of the Curtis Mortuary. Interment took place in Mountain View Cemetery in Deming.

LANEY: A Catron County family was bereaved three times in a single week during May, a fact which was recently brought to the attention of their many friends and acquaintances here. Leslie C. Laney, brother of W.S. Laney of Luna, died at his home in that community on May 16. He was 70 years of age. On May 19, Ray Reynolds, brother of Mrs. W.S. Laney, died at his home in Luna just a few days after his 65th birthday. A few days later, Anna, 19 month daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Laney, died of complications which had caused her to suffer over a period of time. Frank Laney is the youngest brother of W.S. Laney. All three of the family members were members of the Church of Latter Day Saints and were buried in the Luna Cemetery following services officiated by the Rev. George Reynolds, bishop of the church. The Cox Mortuary of Silver City made funeral arrangements.

LANEY: Shelby William Laney, 80, passed away Wednesday at his home in Luna. He was born Aug. 4, 1910, and attended school in Luna. He was a rancher. Mr. Laney is survived by his wife, Ruby; four daughters, Kathy Waite of Lordsburg, Mona Klement of Silver City, Shelia Bonnell of Albuquerque, and Cleo Burns of Luna; three sons, Billy Laney and Eddie Laney Jr. of Silver City, and David Laney of Deming; two sisters, Helen Thompson of Mesa, Ariz., and Hazel Howell of Truth or Consequences; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services were held today at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Luna.

LANEY: Vernon Jesse Laney, popularly known as Cooney, passed away Tuesday morning, October 9, at his home on Bear Creek near Gila. He was born at Luna, November 12, 1898. He was a son of David Laney and Marguaretta Earl. At the age of 4 he moved with his parents to Clifton, AZ where they ranched on the Coronado Trail. As a young man still living at Clifton, Mr. Laney was associated with the Standard Oil Company, he was a foreman for Phelps Dodge, and he owned and operated a service station. Mr. Laney married Lucy Alberta Collett, daughter of Martha Jane Nelson and John Collett, at Tucson, AZ on Feb. 6, 1928. Four children, one son and three daughters were born to this couple. Vernon John Laney of Gila, Verna Rapier of Pica Rivera, Cal., Margie Reynolds of Safford, AZ. One daughter, Alberta Inez Laney died in 1946 at 2 1/2 years of age. In 1945 the Laney’s bought a ranch at Reserve and lived there until 1962. Mr. Laney was Assessor of Catron County and ran a Star Mail Route from Reserve to Silver City for twenty years from 1958 to 1978 when he retired because of ill health. They moved to Silver City when the mail route was turned around and moved to Gila in 1979. He helped raise several nieces and nephews besides his own family. All who knew him loved his cheery ways. He was always ready with a helping hand to anyone in need. Funeral services were held Thursday, October 11, at the L.D.S. Church in Gila, conducted by Bishop C.C. Sullivan. The invocation was by Mancel Mortenson and life story was given by Bill Slaughter. Graveside services were held at Luna and he was laid to rest beside his daughter. He leaves his wife, Alberta of his home, one son, two daughters and thirteen grandchildren and eight grandchildren. Serving as pallbearers were four of his grandsons, Tracy Laney, Max Rapier, Wayne Rapier, Randal Reynolds, and two nephews Lawrence Laney and Eddie Laney. Honorary pallbearers were Amel Elder, Dave Hardt, Fisher Longwell, Paul Matthews, Dave Hoagland, Merle Garfield and Emil Kiehne. LANEY: William S. Laney, 80, a retired merchant of Luna, Catron County, where he had lived for 71, years, died Tuesday night. Recently he had been under treatment for a serious illness. Mr. Laney was a well known in south west New Mexico. Surviving are his wife , Mrs. Myrtle R. Laney; two sons, Selby of Luna and Roy Of Fresno, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Helen Thompson , Luna and Mrs. Hazel, Howell, Fresno; 22 grandchildren; three brothers, Lewis, Albuquerque; Frank and Albert, Luna, and a sister, Mrs. Altura Stowell, Fresno. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Luna Church of Latter Day Saints of which was a retired bishop of the Luna Ward. Burial took place in the Luna cemetery under the direction of the Cox Mortuary.

LANGENDORF: Walter C. Langendorf was called to Laramie, Wyo. last Friday by the death of his father William Langendorf, 82, who passed away after an extended illness. Mr. Langendorf is survived by his widow, and by two sons in addition to Walter Langendorf. Walter Mark Langendorf accompanied his father to Laramie.

LAGENDORF: Walter C. (Clarence) Langendorf died Friday, Aug. 28, in Anchorage, Ala. He was born July 29, 1912, in Laramie, Wyo., son of William and Johanna Lestum Langendorf. Mr. Langendorf had been a resident of Silver City since 1950. After 30 years in the U. S. Air Force, he retired as a Lt. Colonel in 1962. He then worked as a civil engineer in real estate for 15 years before retiring in 1977. Mr. Langendorf was active in the Sigma Chi Fraternity and the local Shrine Organization. He was also a member of the Shrine Temple in Albuquerque and the Blue Lodge in Laramie. Survivors include his wife, Olive Pichford Langendorf; three sons, Walter C. Langendorf, Jr. of El Paso, Henry S. Langendorf of Anchorage, and Mark W. Langendorf of Ft. Benning, Ga.; ten grandchildren and a brother, William Henry Langendorf of El Cajon, Calif. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Church of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church with Father Gerald Griffin officiating. Interment followed at Ft. Bayard National Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Walter C. Langendorf, Jr., Henry S. Langendorf, Mark W. Langendorf, T. E. Walkey and Ernest Brown. Arrangements are by Curtis-Bright Funeral Home.

LANGFORD: Edna Mae Langford, 68, of Fort Thomas, Ariz., passed away Saturday morning in Mount Graham Community Hospital. Mrs. Langford was a homemaker and wife of the late Raymond Langford. She was born Sept. 23, 1923, in Shamrock, Texas, the daughter of Durant Weddle and Tina Wanda Jackson Weddle. When she was a child, her family moved to Marvel, Colo. In 1939 her family moved to the lower Gila Valley and were early settlers there. She married Raymond Lee Langford in 1941. Soon thereafter they moved to Richland, Wash., where he helped construct nuclear power plants for Westinghouse. In 1953, they moved to Ajo, Ariz., where he was employed by Phelps Dodge Corp. Following his retirement in 1976, they returned to the Fort Thomas area. Mrs. Langford was active in the Assembly of God ministries, serving as missionary along with her husband for the last 44 years. Mrs. Langford leaves behind her two sons, Marvin Lee Langford of Mammoth, Ariz., and David Henry Langford of Fort Thomas; two sisters, Jessie Reed and Billie Ruth Rhodes of Fort Thomas; five brothers, Tom Weddle of Mammoth, Darvin Weddle of Fort Thomas, Glen and John Turney of Dewey, Ariz., and Charles Turney of Globe; and six grandchildren. Funerals services were conducted Tuesday at David's Safford Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Michael Gordon of the Safford First Assembly of God officiating. Interment followed in Ashurst Cemetery.

LANGFORD: Raymond Lee Langford, 77, of Fort Thomas, Ariz., passed away Wednesday, Nov. 25, in the Tucson Medical Center. He was born in Seymour, Texas, on July 10, 1915, the son of William E. Langford and Janie Berditt Langford. As a boy of 12 his family moved to the Fort Thomas area. He worked in the fields as a boy and he later learned the construction trade. In 1941, Mr. Langford married Edna Mae Weddle of Cactus Flats, near Safford, Ariz. During 1941 and 1942, Mr. Langford was employed by Phelps Dodge Corp. in Morenci, Ariz. The Langford’s then resided in Richland, Wash., where he was employed by Westinghouse Nuclear Power in its construction division. In 1950, the couple returned to Arizona. Mr. Langford was employed at Ajo for Phelps Dodge from 1953 until 1976 when he retired and returned to the Gila Valley. The Langford’s were active in the Assembly of God ministries for 44 years, including two years, 1962 and 1963, as pastors at the Papago Assembly Indian Church Mission. Most recently, they served among the San Carlos Apaches in Bylas and San Carlos Ariz. His hobbies included cat fishing, rock hounding and playing his guitar. Survivors include his wife, Edna Mae of Fort Thomas; two sons, Marvin Lee Langford and his wife, Linda, of Tyrone, and David Henry Langford of Fort Thomas; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Larry; a brother, Earl; and two sisters, Lucille Wallace and Ruby Grimes. Funeral services were to be conducted at 2 this afternoon in David's Safford Funeral Home with the Rev. W.W. Coker officiating.

LANGHAM Anna Langham, 98, of Fort Bayard passed away Saturday, June 6, at Fort Bayard Medical Center. Graveside funeral services were to be conducted today at 2 p.m. at Fort Bayard. Mr. Duane Springer was to conduct the services. Ms. Langham was born Sept. 10, 1899, in Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Purley H. Langham and Ada Burk Langham. Bright Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

LANGHAM: G1enn Watkins Langham of Las Cruces entered eternal life Saturday. He was a retired accountant, have practiced in Las Cruces for about 30 years. He served in World War II in the Army Air Corps. He is survived by his wife, Judy M. Langham of Las Cruces; one son, Cecil D. Langham of Dallas; three daughters, Shirley Miller of Albuquerque, Barbara Cline of Dallas, and June Alley of Las Cruces; two brothers, Charles Q. Langham of Greeley, Colo., and Vernon F. Langham of Albuquerque; one sister, Ruby Mae Kropf of Caplain; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister and one grandson. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Baptist Children's Home, Portales, NM 88130. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Getz Funeral Home in Las Cruces. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, also at the funeral home, with the Rev. Thomas Eason officiating. Burial will follow at the Masonic Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Earl Neudecker, Ernie Hernandez, Chuck Griffith, Billy Holbrook, Ray Hale, Le Roy Prichett and Glen Horten. Arrangements are by Getz Funeral Home.

LANGSTON: Funeral services were held in Artesia Friday, Feb. 15 for Alma Irene Langston and her daughter, Irene Langston Kane who died as the result of injuries received in an auto accident near Carlsbad Tuesday, Feb. 12. The services were at an Artesia mortuary and burial was in the Woodland cemetery there in the family plot. Irene Langston was born at Hattiesburg, Miss, Feb. 11, 1909, the daughter of Hugh and Dora Burch. She was educated. In Louisiana and Arkansas schools and took nursing training in the Sisters Hospital at Artesia. She entered in marriage Feb. 12, 1927, to Roy Langston, who survives, at Fort Worth, Tex. and for the last several years had made her home in Silver City. At the time of her death, Mrs. Langston was employed as a nurse in the office of Dr. S.M. Ramer at Watts Clinic. She was an excellent nurse and because of her friendly and warm personality was possessed of a large circle of friends, to whom the word of her untimely passing came as a profound shock. Survivors in addition to her husband are a son. Ray Langston, Jr., at present a paratrooper stationed at Fort Campbell. Ky., a daughter Margaret Ann, student at Western High School, a grandson, Neal B. Kane and two brothers Louie Burch of Artesia and Hugh Donald Burch of Graham, Tex.

LANGSTON: Irene Langston was born Nov. 21, 1930 at Artesia, the daughter of Roy and Irene Langston. She received her education In the Artesia and Silver City schools and at the time of her death was taking a bookkeeping course at St. Mary Academy. She was married Dec. 21, 1948 to Harvey Kane of Silver City, the latter now a sergeant in the army was stationed on Okinawa until summoned. He is at present on leave and wiIl remain here for some time. Other survivors are a little son, age 11 months, her father, Roy Langston, a sister, Margaret Ann, her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Langston and an aunt, Mrs. Story, the latter three of Little Rock, Ark.

LANGSTON: Death on Sunday in Las Cruces Memorial hospital claimed Mrs. Margaret (Conn) Langston, 88, a pioneer of the Upper Gila Valley. The past year she had been in a rest home at Mesilla Park, following a broken hip received in a fall. Graveside services were held at the Mesa cemetery, at Gila Tuesday afternoon the Rev. Jack Malcohn, of Trinity Presbyterian church, officiating Cox Mortuary had charge of interment. Born in St. Paul, Kan, in 1889, Grandma Conn as she was affectionately known came to the Gila River area in 1890, where the Conn family was a pioneer one. Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. W; M. LANGSTROTH: Charles S Langstroth, a resident of Silver City for over 4O years, died in an El Paso hospita1 last Sunday morning, April 11. Mr. Langstroth was born Aug. 31, 1877, in Germantown, Pa. He graduated from Germantown Academy as class historian in 1893. In the Wharton School of Finance and Economy at the University of Pennsylvania, he was valedictorian of the class of 1898. Then he studied law with Frederick Carroll Brewster, the leader of the Philadelphia bar, and at the same time studied at the University of Pennsylvania Law School. He graduated in June, 1901, and was admitted to law practice. In partnership with his brother, James H., he practiced law in Philadelphia until Nov. 1906, when they came to Silver City and settled on their ranch north of town. Mr. Langstroth was always interested in Boy Scouts, and was connected with the movement for 15 years. With his brother, he helped organize the first girl scouts in Silver City. As a friend said of him, “None who knew Mr. Charlie can ever forget the genuine warmth of his greeting, the, ready desire to be of service, and the cheery optimism -which he radiated. Mr. Charlie was the real scholar and gentleman. He never knew, nor will any of us fully realize, the extent and permanence of his influence. We ad-mired him for his learning and sound scholarship, for his rejection of the cheap and shoddy, for his sincerity, for his tolerance. We are better men and women because he passed our way.” He is survived by one brother, James H. Langstroth. of Silver City; and two sisters, Mrs. Edward D. Smyth and Miss Dora A. Langstroth, Germantown, Philadelphia, Pa. Funeral services will he held at the Cox Mortuary chapel this afternoon at 2 o’clock. The Rev. H. L. Geddes will be in charge. Remains will be sent to West Laurel Hill Cemetery, Philadelphia, for interment in the family plot.

LANGSTROTH: James H. Langstroth, resident of Grant County for 52 years, died Sunday, following a short illness. He was 85 years old. Born in Germantown, Pa., he came to Silver City for his health and with his brother, Charles L. Langstroth, who died in 1947, resided on a ranch north of Silver City. Surviving are two sisters, Miss Teodora A. Langstroth and Mrs. Catherina J Smyth, both of Philadelphia, Pa. Funeral services were set for 10:30 am today at the Curtis Mortuary chapel, the Rev. Garry Kamerling of the First Presbyterian Church, conducting the rites. The body will be shipped to Philadelphia for burial.

LANINGHAM: Irene Clora Laningham passed away Sept. 22 at the Fort Bayard Medical Center. She is survived by three sisters; Vera Grimes, Thelma Brawley and Grace Blake, two brothers; Roy Morgan and Howard Morgan. Graveside services were held for Irene Laningham Sept. 25 at 2 p.m. at the Fort Bayard Cemetery with Francis Wheeler officiating, under the direction of the Wheeler Funeral Home.

LANKFORD: Faye Alta Lankford. 88, a resident of Hurley, passed away Saturday afternoon at Gila Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Lankford was born Oct. 16, 1908, in Kansas. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Arnold. She is survived by two sons, Lawrence Lankford and his wife, Susie, of Hurley, and Ervin Lankford and his wife, Bob of Orangeville CA; eight grandchildren: 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Lankford was preceded in death by her husband, George Marion Lankford, in 1990. A funeral service and interment will he held Monday in Roseville, Calif. Curtis-Bright Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

LANNEN: Genevieve Lannen, 74, of Phoenix, Ariz., died April 6, 1982. Her parents, the late Warren M. Cox, official of the U.S. Forest Service, and wife, Marie E. Cox, transferred to Silver City in 1917. Genevieve was the eldest of five children. She is survived by two brothers and two sisters; Glen B. Cox of Silver City, Warren M. Cox Jr. of Coronado, Calif.; Charmain Wilson of Prescott, Ariz. and Jacqueline Hill of Sherwood, Ore. She is also survived by a daughter, Merle Capone, of Phoenix, and a grandson, Keith Capone. Services were in Phoenix, April 12.

LANNON: Funeral services were held December 31 for a former long-time resident of Hurley, Charles Howard Lannon, 64, who died at his home at 113 West Cascade Drive, Rialto Ca. December 28. Born December 2, 1901, in Pueblo, Colo., he came to Hurley where be was employed by the Santa Fe Railway. At the time of his death, he was a deputy sheriff for San Bernardino County. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Doris Cousland Lannon, and daughter Joann Plum and a grandson Donald Ray Plum. Masonic services were held at Ontario Calif. followed by burial,

LANNON: Mrs. Doris Rebecca Cousland Lannon, 80, born in Silver City on March 4, 1905, and a member of a Pioneer family, passed away Thursday at her home at 1306 Roswell St. in Deming. She was the daughter of Archie S. and Margaret Murphy Cousland. Until she was 6 years old, she lived on ranches on Bear Creek and on the Greenwood Ranch and in the former Hilton Dickson home until her father died. Her mother was one of the first Anglo children born in Silver City. After she was married to her husband Charles Howard Lannon in Lordsburg April 21, 1921, she lived in Hurley. She later moved to California where her husband preceded her in death on Dec. 29, 1965. She returned to New Mexico in 1978. She is Survived by a daughter, Doris Joann Plum; a grandson, Donald Ray Plum; nieces Saralee Ragland, Marjorie Leupold, Mary Ethel Miller, Ruby Lynn Yarbrough ; and nephews Harold Ray Cousland, Archie and Mike Cousland, Jimmy and ,Jerry Farrar, and Phillip Nickol. She is also survived by several great nieces and nephews and also a number of and nephews, and her Cousin, Vida Mae Keene of Silver City and Myrtice Marshall and Virginia Laverty of California. Funeral services will be held Saturday at the Baca Wheeler Funeral chapel in Deming at 3 p.m. The body will lie in state there from 11 a. in. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Bill Crawford of the Good Shepherd Church will officiate, Eastern Star services will he conducted by Hurley Chapter No. 43 of Hurley assisted by the worthy matron and patron of Silver City Chapter No. 3, Vida Mae and Walker Keene. Mrs. Lannon had been a member of Hurley Chapter No. 43 for 55 years.

LANPHERE: Thomas G. Lanphere, 93, a resident of Silver City for the past 10 years, formerly of Douglas, Ariz., entered into rest Tuesday at Hacienda de Salud care center. He was born April 16, 1900, in Iliff, Colo., to the late Thomas Charles and Nellie Rose (Bonwell) Lanphere. A Protestant by faith, Mr. Lanphere was a club steward for 25 years for Elks Lodge No. 671 in Bisbee, Ariz. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Jo Ann and Leonard Duncan of Tyrone; his grandchildren, Nita Bloss of Tulsa, Okla., Wayne Duncan of Animas, Tommy Duncan of Playas and Randy Duncan of Silver City; 14 grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a niece and nephews, Colleen Davis of Hereford, Ariz., Chuck Lanphere of Reno, Nev., and Lt. Col. Charles Ables of Carlsbad, Calif. Preceding him in death was his wife, Esther Lanphere, in 1966. Memorial contributions may be directed to a charity of choice in memory of Mr. Lanphere. Cremation and arrangements were entrusted to Baca's Funeral Chapels and Baca's Mimbres Crematory.

LANSE: Ella Mae Lanse, 89, of Silver City, passed away this morning at Hacienda de Salud in Silver City. Arrangements are pending through Curtis-Bright Funeral Home of Silver City.

LANSE: Frank H. Lanse, 86, a retired farmer, died Dec. 19 at his home in Selma, Calif. He was born in 1903 near Selma on a farm next to the vineyard he operated for more than 50 years. Mr. Lanse is survived by his wife, Ella Mae, and son, Roger, both of Silver City; a brother, Joe, of Selma; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A memorial service will be held in the Calvary Baptist Church, Silver City, at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 26.

LANSWAY: Charles E. "Chuck" Lansway, 40, of Kearny, Ariz., entered eternal rest May 23, his death was the result of an auto accident while on his way home from work. Survivors include his wife, Sandra Leonard Lansway; a daughter, Shannon; his parents, Charles R. and Flora Lansway; a sister Sandra Lemieux; his grandparents; his father-in-law, Robert Lenard; his mother-in-law, Mary Lou Bassette; a brother-in-law, Mike Leonard of Silver City; and many relative and friends throughout Arizona and New Mexico. Funeral Services were held May 27 in Ajo. Ariz. Mr. Lansway spent the first 14 years of his life in Ajo. His family then moved to Tyrone and he attended school in Silver City. He started in construction as a bricklayer. At the time of his death, he was a repair superintendent of Merganti Construction Co. of Kearny.

LANT: One of Catron County’s pioneer residents and ranchers, Fred S. Lant, died suddenly on Monday at his Apache Creek home. He was 69 and had lived in Southwest New Mexico for 57 years. Mr. Lant was one of the originators in the creation of Catron County carved out of Grant and Socorro Counties, and a leading force in the development of the county and its mining and ranching resources. In more recent years he was a field man for the State Land Office until his retirement. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Mabel Hudson, Reserve, and Mrs. Thelma Donalson, Las Cruces, and several grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday, with graveside services at Reserve. Silver City Elks Lodge members conducted committal rites at the grave, acting for the Albuquerque Elks Lodge of which he was a life member. Cox Mortuary was in charge of the services and final internment.

LANTZER: Charles F Lantzer of 1111 E Fern Dr Phoenix, Az died at St. Luke’s hospital in Phoenix on Dec 17. Mr. Lantzer was born in Dundee Ohio on July 27, 1883. He came to Glendale AZ in 19—and moved to globe in 1910 where he operated a taxi service between globe and Miami. In 1914 he moved to Tyrone, where he was head mechanic for Phelps Dodge Corp. In 1916 he established a stage line between Silver City and Lordsburg. He married Anna Hardin in 1934. Returning to Phoenix in1931 he worked at the Salt River Water Users until 1944 when illness forced him to retire. Mr. Lantzer is survived by his wife, Anna, two daughters, Mrs. Stella L. Young of Phoenix, and Mrs. Betty L. Thierjung of Haughton, La., and eight grandchildren. Services were conducted at Greenacres Mortuary in Scottsdale, Az., on Dec. 19.

LAPOSKI: Stephen Laposki Sr., 73, of Hurley died Thursday, Jan. 8, at the New Mexico Veteran’s Center in Truth or Consequences following a lengthy illness. He was born in Dillonvale, Ohio, on Feb. 15, 1924, the son of the late Frank and Mary (Posgai) Laposki. He was a World War II veteran of the Merchant Marines, and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Pioneers of Alaska, the Elks and the Alumnae Association of Miami University at Oxford, Ohio. He attended the Lutheran Church. He was a teacher, coach, private fisherman, inventor, author, and former employee of the state of Alaska. He is survived by three children, Stephen Laposki Jr. of Flushing, Ohio, Sandra Love of Columbus, Ohio, and Debbie Hailer of Chillicothe, Ohio; four grandsons; two brothers; and one sister. He was preceded in death by a brother Louis, in 1990. Arrangements are being made by Deming Cremation Services in Deming. Memorial contributions may he made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.

LARA: Burial services for Felix B. Lara, 90, of Central, were held Monday morning following mass in the Central Catholic Church. Interment was directed by Cox Mortuary. Mr. Lara had been a resident of Grant County for 72 years and a farmer in the Mimbres Valley until about five years ago. He is survived by his wife of Central, three daughters, one son, 28 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren.

LARA: Maria M. Lara, 94, died at Las Cruces August 17 where she had been a resident for the past eight years. Mrs. Lara was a native of Georgetown and was a long time resident of Grant County. Her husband preceded her in death in 1956. Rosary services were held in the Curtis Mortuary Chapel on Sunday. Mass was said Monday at 10 a.m. at the Santa Clara Catholic Church in Central. Interment followed in the Central Cemetery. The Rev. Fr. Felix Sheridan officiated. Survivors include one son, Jose of Hurley; three daughters, Mrs. Josefa Montoya of Faywood, Mrs. Dolores Terrazas and Mrs. Martha Aguilar, both of Las Cruces: twenty-eight grandchildren, seventy great grandchildren and fourteen great-great grandchildren: one brother, Pete Savorillo of Ft. Bayard. Pallbearers were David Nunez, Felix Nunez, Johnny Aguilera, Arthur Lara, Joe Lara Jr. and Joe Aguilera, Jr.

Mrs. Lara was a native of Arrey, but had resided most of her life in Hurley. Survivors include the husband of the deceased, Jose M. Fr. Ramon Estivill officiating. Burial will be in the Hurley Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Rito Silva, Freddie Silva, Roger Silva, Manuel Silva, Danny Padilla and Pete Herrera.

LARA: Former Grant County resident Cleotilde P. Lara, 88, passed away Wednesday, July 6, in Tulare, Calif. Funeral services were held in the St. Rita Catholic Church in Tulare on Monday, July 11.She is survived by five sons, Tomas Tovar and Patricio Tovar of Central, Joe Lara of Bayard and Luciano and Claro Lara, both of San Jose, Calif.; four daughters, Helen Bonilla of Tulare, Barbara Jaramillo of Silver City, Epifania Soto of San Angelo, and Polly Payan of Campbell, Calif.; 43 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Memorial Services were held in Silver City on Monday, July 11, in the Saint Francis Newman Center Parish. The Rev. Bill Mayer officiated.

LARA: Henry J. Lara, 82, a resident of Las Cruces, entered eternal life Monday at his home. He was born May 28, 1911, in Sherman in the Mimbres Valley to Diega Jimenez and Jose C. Lara. He grew up in the Mimbres Valley before moving to Silver City. He spent most of his life as a farmer in the Rio Grande Valley and served as postmaster in Array for more than 30 years. Mr. Lara was a communicant of the Catholic Church and served two terms as a member of the Truth or Consequences board of education. Upon his retirement in 1977, he moved to Las Cruces, where he was active at the Munson Senior Center. Mr. Lara will be reposing today beginning at 5 p.m. in Baca's Funeral Chapels in Las Cruces. The prayer vigil will begin at 7 with Deacon James Lehman officiating. The funeral liturgy will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral in Las Cruces with the Rev. Frank Davied officiating. The rite of committal will follow in the Masonic Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest in the family plot. Survivors include his loving wife, Mary Bourguet Lara of the home; one son, Robert Lara, and his wife, Albita, of Arrey; one daughter, Gloria A. Dorsett of Twenty Nine Palms, Calif.; four brothers, Raymond Lara of Mesilla Park, Pete Lara of Las Cruces, Miguel "Mike" Norero of Albuquerque and Harry Lara of Camarillo, Calif.; five sisters, Isabel Parra of Albuquerque, Cecilia Abila of Las Cruces, Marcelina Otero of Derry, Carmen Ogas of Garfield and Virginia Chacon of Faywood; five grandchildren, Gina Matthews and her husband, Mark, Katrina Winder and her husband, Jim, Raquel Chubb and her husband, Bill, Dolores Dorsett, and Larry Dorsett and his wife, Suzanne; and two great-grandchildren. Other survivors include his stepchildren, Joel Bourguet of Santa Fe, Edna Smith of Albuquerque, Bernice Boyd of Berino and Cindy Gonzales of Las Cruces. Mr. Lara was preceded in death by his first wife, Margarita Parra Lara, in 1977; his parents, Jose C. and Diega Lara; and his brothers, Jose and Genaro Lara. LARA: Jose M. Lara, 84, died Monday in the Gila Regional Medical Center. He was born July 15, 1904, in Dwyer and was a lifelong resident of Grant County. Mr. Lara retired from Chino Mines as an operator at the tailings dam after 36 years of service. He was a charter member of Amalgamated United Steelworkers of America Local No. 890. and was a member of the St. Francis Newman Center. Calling hours will be today from 3-9 p.m. in Baca's Hillcrest Funeral Chapels where the rosary services will be held at 6:45 p.m. Mass of the Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday morning at 11:30 in the St. Francis Newman Center with interment to follow in the Hurley Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Mayer officiating. He is survived by four sons, Lolo T. Lara and his wife, Eva, of Bayard, Felix T. Lara and Arturo T. "Art" Lara, both of North Hurley, and Joe T. Lara and his wife, Hilda, of Silver City; three daughters, Helen Flores and her husband, Art, of Norwalk, Calif., Virginia Kozvshko and her husband, Phillip, of Socorro and Inez T. Lara of Hurley; two sisters, Josefa Montoya of Dwyer and Dolores Saenz of Las Cruces; 24 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Estefana Trujillo Lara, in 1968; and by a son, Joseph T. Lara. Casket bearers will be Lolo, Roy, Arturo and Joe Lara, Phillip Kozvshko and Michael Flores. LARA: Samuel P. Lara, 39, died Sunday, July 30, in San Jose, Calif., as a result of injuries received in an automobile accident. Mr. Lara, a native of Grant County, had been a resident of San Jose for the past 26 years. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Cleotilde Lara of Central, four sisters, Mrs. Helen D. Bonilla of Tulare, Calif., Mrs. Episania Trujillo of San Angelo, Tex., Mrs. Barbara Jaramillo of Silver City, Mrs. Polly Payan of Las Vegas, Nev., six brothers Tomas P. Tovar and Pat T. Tovar, both of Central, Manuel T. Tovar of Las Cruces, Joe T. Lara of Bayard, Luciano Lara and Claro Lara, both of San Jose, Calif. Rosary recitation was Friday, Aug. 4 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Bayard. Funeral Mass was also at Our Lady of Fatima on Saturday, August 5 with Rev. Fr. Jesus Espinosa conducting both services. Interment followed at the Fierro Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Alex R. Lara, Tony Castillo, Freddie Estrada, Juan Aguirre, Jr., Louis Valenzuela and Emeterio Escobar. Honorary pallbearers were David R. LARA: Carlos G Lara, 84, a lifelong resident of Lordsburg, passed away Sunday at Gila Regional Medical Center in Silver City. He was born Aug. 16, 1909, to Placedo and Juanita (Gutierrez) Lara in Lordsburg. He married Petra Verdugo on Nov. 30, 19.38. He was a member of Woodmen of the World. He is survived by his wife, Petra Lara of Lordsburg; a daughter, Alicia Tellez, and her husband, Carmelo, of Flagstaff, Ariz.; three sisters, Helen Nelson of San Bernardino, Calif., Elouise De La O of Washington, D.C., and Ernestine Broughtof of Red Lands, Calif.; and seven grandchildren. A graveside service took place today in the Shakespeare Cemetery in Lordsburg with the Rev. Karl Poim-Faudre officiating. Family members selected Lordsburg Funeral Home to serve them.

Sam H Lara, 84, ,a retired miner who had resided at Fierro for 45-years, died Saturday at  Hillcrest General Hospital. Survivor, of the deceased Include his widow, Mrs. Cleotilde Lara of ‘Tulare, Calif.; four sons, Joe Lara of Los Angeles, Ca, and Luciano, Caro and Sammy Lara of San Jose Calif.; three daughter Mrs. Epifania Trujillo of Vanadium, Mrs. Barbara Jaramillo of Silver City and Mrs. Polly Payan of San Jose; three stepsons, Tomas Tovar of Bayard and Patricio and Manuel Tovar of Tulare; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Elina Bonila of Tulare 40 grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren. Rosary services were held Monday at the Curtis Mortuary chapel Mass was said Tuesday morning at the Fierro Catholic Church with burial in the Fierro Cemetery.

 

LARDIZABAL Manuel Telles Lardizabal, 41, died Tuesday, morning in Silver City. Mr. Lardizabal was born in Bayard and was a lifelong resident of Grant County. He was a communicant of the Santa Clara Catholic Church and was past vice president of the Copper Little League. Mr. Lardizabal is survived by his wife Ramona of Central; two daughters, Patricia Chacon and her husband Alfredo Chacon of Silver City and Becky Lardizabal of Central; two sons, Manuel Lardizabal Jr. and his wife Olivia of Los Angeles, Calif., and Ruben of Central; his stepmother, Alicia Lardizabal of Central; two sisters, Anna Lardi7.abal of Deming and Lydia Chavez of Marana, Ariz.; one stepsister, Evelyn Sosaya of Bayard; and two stepbrothers, Joe Armijo of Tucson, Ariz., and Tommy Coca. Rosary recitation will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday and Mass of the resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, in Santa Clara Catholic Church in Central with the Rev. LARDIZABAL: Alberto Lardizabal, 80, former resident of Santa Rita, passed away Feb. 11 in Mountain View, Calif. LARDIZABAL: Jose (Chema) Maria Lardizabal, 75, died Sunday in El Paso, Texas after a brief illness. Mr. Lardizabal was a longtime resident of Grant County. He was a communicant of the Infant Jesus Catholic Church of Hurley and was retired from Chino Mines after 35 years of service as a crane operator. He and his wife, Elisa B. Lardizabal had been married 53 years. Mr. Lardizabal is survived by his wife, Elisa, of Hurley; two sons, Joe B. Lardizabal of Denton, Texas, and David B. Lardizabal of El Paso; three daughters, Manuela E. Evans of Ontario, Canada, Aurora L. Martinez of Fort Worth , Texas, and Margaret L. Martinez of El Paso; four sisters, Pat L. Garcia, Adela L. Sias, and Carmen L. Sias, all of Mountain View Calif., and Theresa L. Nevarez of Santa Clara, Calif.; one brother Alberto Lardizabal Sr., also of Mountain View ; 15 grandchildren, Albert Martinez III, Daniel Paul Martinez, Christina Ann Lopez, Patricia Martinez, Barbara J. LARDIZABAL: Pedro B. Lardizabal, 69, died Monday, July 3, at his residence in Central. Mr. Lardizabal was a native of El Paso, Tex., and was a long time resident of Grant County. He was a retired employee of Kennecott Copper Corp. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Alicia Lardizabal of Central, three daughters, Mrs. Lydia L. Chavez of Marana, AZ, Mrs. Anne L. NcNulty of Alamogordo, Mrs. Evelyn A. Sosaya of Bayard, three sons, Manuel T. Lardizabal of Central, Joe G. Armijo of Bell Gardens, Calif., Tommy Coca of San Jose, Calif., and twenty grandchildren. Survivors also include four sisters, Mrs. Pat L. Garcia, Mrs. Carmen L. Sias, Mrs. Adela L. Siejas, Mrs. Teresa L. Nevarez, all of Mountain View, Calif., two brothers, Joe Lardizabal of Hurley and Alberto Lardizabal of Mountain View, Calif. LARKIN: Raymond Eugene Larkin, 71, a resident of Hurley, entered life eternal Monday in Albuquerque. He was born Oct. 1, 1920, in Denver, Colo., and was a retired truck driver. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Larkin of Hurley; three sons, Joseph Larkin of Arvada, Colo., James Larkin of San Jose, Calif., and Tom Larkin of Arvada; three stepsons, Matthew McClure of Mount Vernon, Wash., John McClure of Las Cruces and Frank McClure of Santa Fe; a daughter, Raegene Mayo of Golden, Colo.; and two stepdaughters, Victoria Dunn of Chico, Calif., and Leigh Priest of England. LARREMORE: George 0. Larremore, 79, died Saturday morning in Las Cruces. Mr. Larremore was born in Malaga, and was a resident of Buckhorn He was a retired equipment operator from the Arizona Highway Department and was a member of the National Old-Time Fiddlers Association. Mr. Larremore is survived by six Sisters, Net-tie A. Reed of Cliff, Susie George of Duncan, Ariz., Noreen Key of Safford AZ, Noretta Williams of Phoenix Ariz., Mary Wilhout of Palmdale Calif., and Winnie Cain of Fairhope Ala; and by numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10am Tuesday in the Curtis-Bright Funeral Home with the Rev. David F. Goble officiating, Interment will follow in the Memory Lane Cemetery. LARREMORE: Services were held at 4 o’clock Monday’ afternoon in the Silver City Church of Christ for Mrs. W. Thomas Larremore, who died Saturday at her home at 1214 Main St. O. K. Alexander, minister of the Church of Christ officiated at the services, assisted by Thomas Cudd, minister of the Church of Christ in Bayard. Burial was in the Silver City Cemetery, under the direction of Cox Mortuary. Active pallbearers were L. E.  Morrison, Clyde Lock, William Adams, Willard Clapp, John E. Foster, and Glenn Young. Honorary pallbearers were Vic Waggoner, Bill Harris, Earl West, Louis Mahier, George Chapman, Joseph Landrum, and Charlie Moore. Mrs. Larremore, the former Margaret Alice Cady, was born on May 9, 1876 in Hays County, Tex. She and her husband, who were married on Jan. 28, 1898, celebrated their 53rd anniversary this year. Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, T. F. Larremore, Ajo, Ariz., and C. S. Larremore, El Paso; four daughters, Mrs. H. C. Longbotham, Silver City; Mrs. Pearl Ward, Tucson; and Mrs. Betty Tidwell, Portales; one sister, Catherine Martin, Vaughn, N. M.; one brother, Frank Cady, Ajo; 15 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

LARREMORE: Seized with a heart attack Monday night at his home In Central, William Marion Larremore died within a few minutes. He was a rancher. The deceased was a member of the pioneer Larremore family of Penasco, N. M., where he was born Sept. 20, 1905. Surviving are his widow, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Larremore, Silver City; a daughter, Miss Gloria Larremore, Reno, Nev.; four sisters, Mrs. Leslie Longbotham, Cliff; Mrs. Pearl Ward Tucson, Ariz.; Mrs. Katherine Martin , Mrs. Betty Tidwell, Central, two brothers, Fred Larremore Ajo, AZ and Curtis Larremore El Paso. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2:30 at the Cox Mortuary chapel conducted by the Rev. Dale Sexson, of the Church of Christ. Burial was in the City cemetery.

LARREMORE: Edna Florence Larremore died suddenly at her home in Buckhorn, N.M. on June 21. Born in Lordsburg in 1910, she was a lifelong resident of this area. She is survived by her husband George, a daughter Ruby Scott of Birmingham, Ala. and several brothers, sisters, nephews and nieces. Service was at the Wheeler Chapel with the Rev. West officiating. Burial followed at Memory Lane Cemetery. Pallbearers were Gordon White, Bob Cooper, Clyde Reed, Richard Dinwiddie, Ernie Brown and Wes Brown. LARSON: Percy Larsen, 66, passed away at Hillcrest Hospital Friday morning. Mr. Larsen was a native of Pope County, Minn. and had lived in Silver City for many years. Survivors include a niece and a nephew residing in Minnesota. Graveside services were conducted at Memory Lane Cemetery at 11 am Wednesday with the Rev. Clifton M. Henderson of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd officiating. Curtis-Bright Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

LARSON: Charles Oliver Larson brother of Seth Larson of Silver City died of a heart attack the past week at Mesa, Arizona. He is survived by a daughter Mrs. Fawn Lesley; a sister and three brothers. Funeral services and burial look place in Mesa.

LARSON: Seth Larson, a long time civic and church leader, died suddenly at his home in Silver City last Wednesday morning, January 31. He was 83. The Deceased came to Silver City in 1925 as the acting manager of the J.C. Penney Company Store. Shortly thereafter he became manager, a position which he held until his retirement in 1956. Over the years Mr. Larson served in a wide variety of community activities. He was a County Commissioner for two terms, serving as chairman one term, a member of the City Council, served fifteen years on the board of directors of the Chamber of Commerce, was a president of the Rotary Club, and at the end of World War II received a citation for his personal efforts in the sale of war bonds. He was among the leaders in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and donated all of the land for the first Mormon Church in Silver City. For his work with the Boy Scouts Mr. Larson received the Silver Beaver award, and in 1945 was appointed to the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He actively participated in many other community activities, and was at one time treasurer of the local chapter of the American Red Cross. Marcel Mortenson, who gave the eulogy at the funeral services, described the deceased "As the greatest peace maker you have ever seen." He is survived by his wife, Gretta of Silver City, three daughters, Mrs. Ruth Merz of Silver City, Mrs. Inez Candiello of Bisbee, Arizona, Mrs. Louise Sterchi of Albuquerque, two sisters, Mrs. Josie Teeples of Pomerene, Ariz., Mrs. Lexie Carter of Miami, Ariz., eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Funeral services were Friday in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Silver City. Burial following in Memory Lane Cemetery, serving as pallbearers were, Orson Stailey, Horace Garcia, Robyn Doty, Robert Johnson, Gary Stailey and David Hardt.

LARSON': Thaddeus A. Larson, 59, a resident of Hurley, passed away Sunday at Gila Regional Medical Center. He was born July 24, 1936, in Ely, Minn., the son of Arvid and Josephine Larson. Most of his life, he worked in the retail business, owning and operating the L. Strauss Men’s and Ladies Specialty Store in Indianapolis, Ind., and Liemandts Men’s Specialty Store in Minneapolis, MN. Mr. Larson served on the hoard for the Indianapolis Visitors and Convention Bureau. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving as a corporal. He and his wife, Eileen Larson moved to Hurley in 1994; He was owner and operator of the Gateway Plaza in Hurley. He is survived by his mother, Josephine Larson of Ely; his wife of 37 years, Eileen Larson of the family home; three sons, Tim Larson and his wife, Karla, and their two children, Etise and Eti, Larson, of Hurley, Greg Larson and his wife, Michelle, and their son, Nickolos, of Indianapolis, and Joel Larson and his wife, Chris, and their children, J.T., Adam and Nicole Larson, also of Indianapolis; and his sister, Katherine Nyman of Lake Elmo, Minn. Mr. Larson will be reposing Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Baca's Funeral Chapels, where the rosary will be recited at 7 by Deacon Alfonso Alvarado. The Mass of resurrection will be celebrated by the Rev. Paulus Kao on Friday at 10 a.m. at Infant Jesus Catholic Church in Hurley. Concluding services and burial will follow at Fort Bayard National Cemetery with honors being accorded by the area veterans groups. LASCANO: Mrs. Dolores L. Lascano, 60, a resident of Silver City for the past 41 years died Thursday evening at Hillcrest General Hospital. Mrs. Lascano is survived by her husband, Ramon G. Lascano of Silver City; her daughters, Mrs. Aurora Rodriguez, Superior, Ariz., and Mrs. Alice Miranda, Silver City; two sons, Pete L. Hernandez and Joe L. Hernandez of Prescott, Ariz.; 21 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Manuel Hernandez, Silver City; and two sisters, Mrs. Joe B. Acosta, Silver City, and Mrs. John Medina of Tucson, Ariz. Funeral services were held in the Curtis Mortuary Chapel Saturday at 4 p.m., with the Rev. Richard Pompas of the Silver City Iglesia Apostolica de la Fe en Cristo church officiating. Interment was in Memory Lane Cemetery. He was a member of the Apostolic Faith Temple in Silver City. Mr. Lascano is survived by two sisters, Amalia M. Garcia of Salinas, Calif., and Rosa M. Huston of Wilcox, Ariz.; three stepdaughters, Aurora Rodriguez and Esther Rodriguez of Superior Ariz., and Alicia Miranda of Silver City; two stepsons, Pete Hernandez and Joe Hernandez of Prescott, Ariz., numerous nephews and nieces; 21 step grandchildren, 42 step great-grandchildren; and three step-great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores Lascano, in 1969. Wake services will be held at 7 P.M Friday at the Apostolic Faith Temple in Silver City, and funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Wheeler Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steve P. Provencio officiating at both. LASH: Irvin B Lash, 66, a retired Forest Service ranger, died at Fort Bayard Veteran., Hospital Tuesday. He was retired in 1950, after a long period of service in New Mexico and Arizona forests. For the past 25 years he had lived in Silver City and was a member of the Elks Lodge. Funeral Services were set for 10:30 this morning in the Fort Bayard Chapel conducted by the Rev. Clarence Crowe, with burial in the Fort Bayard cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Carl Mrotzek, Fred Berrey, Crawford Riggs, Clifton Reed, Frank Nickel and Robert Leonard.

LASITER: Thomas Otto Lasiter, 80, a resident of Arenas Valley, entered life eternal Tuesday at his home. He was born Dec. 30, 1912, in Arkansas. Mr. Lasiter was a member of the Glad Tidings Assembly of God, and was retired from Fort Bayard as maintenance supervisor. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. Calling hours will be from 5-7 Thursday evening in Baca's Funeral Chapels, where the funeral service will be held Friday afternoon at 2. The Rev. W.W. Coker, Pastor of the Glad Tidings Church, will officiate. Burial will follow at the Fort Bayard National Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest. Survivors include his wife, Cleo Lasiter of the home; a son, Roger Lasiter of Arenas Valley; a daughter, Irene Drake, and her husband, Leroy, of Hobbs; a daughter-in-law, Doris Lasiter of Broken Arrow, Okla.; four brothers, Homer Lasiter of Springdale, Wash., W.R. LASITER: William R. Lasiter was born Oct. 1, 1885, in Arkansas. He died at the Ft. Bayard Medical Center at the age of 94 years. Mr. Lasiter is survived by six sons and one daughter, Irman Lasiter of Alamogordo; Otto Lasiter of Arenas Valley; Beuford Lasiter of Benton, Arkansas; Homer Lasiter of Springdale, Washington; Vera Jones of Bingham; Freeman Lasiter of Caballo; W.R. Lasiter, Jr., of Anchorage, Alaska. He had 36 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and lots of friends. Funeral services were held in the Wheeler Chapel Tuesday afternoon with Pastor W.W. Coker officiating and the Assembly of God Church in charge of the music. Pallbearers were Tom Lasiter, Billy Smith, Ebbie Smith, Roy Smith, Gene Loveza, and Clifford Lasiter. Burial was in Memory Lane Cemetery, Silver City, under the direction of the Wheeler Funeral Home.

LASSITER: Death at Fort Bayard Veterans hospital Saturday claimed Robert C. Lassiter, World War II veteran who served In the Navy. He had been seriously ill for two months. Prior to the war he was employed for 16 years by the Union Pacific Railroad. Surviving are his wife, his mother, and an uncle George W Willhite, Gonzales TX. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Fort Bayard, with a military burial in the post cemetery, Interment being directed by the Cox Mortuary.

LASTRO: Mrs. Aurelia Lastro, 73, died at her home in Central on Saturday. Mrs. Lastro has lived in Central for the past 40 years. She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Jesusita Lastro, two daughters, Mrs. Virginia Padilla, Los Angeles and Mrs. Jesusita E. Morales of Central. Also surviving are two sons, Guillermo Gareta and Rafael Lastro, both of Los Angeles, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Rosary services were held at 7pm Sunday at Cox Mortuary, Mass 9 a.m. Monday at the Santa Clara Catholic Church in Central and burial following, the Rev. Henry Saxon officiating.

LASTRO: Mrs. Jesusita Lastro, one of New Mexico's oldest citizens, died at her home in Central Monday. She was 101 years of age. Mrs. Lastro was born Jan. 6, 1856 in Sonora, Mexico. Her age has been verified through church records. Mrs. Lastro has enjoyed good health until five weeks ago when she fell and broke a hip. She made her home with a granddaughter, Mrs. Jesusita Morales and had lived in Central since 1921. She came from Mexico in 1901 and first lived in El Paso. She had two daughters both of whom preceded her in death. She is survived by three granddaughters, Mrs. Morales, Mrs. Concha Meyers, both of Central, and Mrs. Virginia Padilla of Los Angeles; two grandsons of Los Angeles and eight great grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren. During the past few years, Mrs. Lastro’s hearing and eyesight began to fail and she had to give up her hobby of reading but continued to do some housework and made designs by pulling threads from cloth which she could do without sight. She could recall vividly the governmental upheavals of Mexico and its struggle for peace during the last half of the 19th century. Rosary services were held Tuesday at the Cox Mortuary Chapel. The High Mass was said Wednesday morning in the Catholic Church in Central by Rev. Casmir Petrauskas. Burial was in the Central Cemetery.

LATHAM: Mrs. Hattie R. Latham, 76, died at Hillcrest Hospital Nov. 11. Mrs. Latham was a native of Jones County, Tex., and had resided in Grant County for the past 53 years. She had been a resident of Buckhorn for 47 years and had lived in Silver City since her husband’s death in 1964. Survivors include one brother, J. B. Rushing of Indio, Calif.; nieces, Mrs. Gladys Stubblefield of Burkburnett Tex; a nephew Robert M Hawkins of Silver City; and a number of other nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held in the Curtis Mortuary Chapel at 2 p.m. Friday with Rev. Donald Brent of the First Baptist Church of Silver City officiating. Interment followed in the Mesa Cemetery at Gila. Pallbearers were Robert White, Dirk Schaffner, Dick Hayes, Dink Chappel, Otho Woodrow and Lewis Brown.

LATHAM: Relatives of Grover Cleveland Latham, who was born Jan. 23, 1888 on the Macho ranch six miles west of Lake Valley, have received word of his death which occurred on June 15 near Anchorage, Alaska. He was the youngest son of a pioneer family which settled in New Mexico in 1886. His mother was Ann Elizabeth Faulkner Latham and his father was James Robert Latham, a Texas Ranger during the Civil War before coming to New Mexico. He received his education at New Mexico Normal School, Silver City, now known as New Mexico Western College. The remains are being shipped back to the United States and burial will be in the old Lake Valley cemetery beside his father and mother. --Sierra County Advocate.

LATIF: Mae A. Latif, 90, of Gower, Mo., formerly of Silver City, died Wednesday at Gower Convalescent Center. She was born March 31, 1902, to John Weston and Mattie A. (Chaney) Everett. She attended school in Gower, where she grew up. She also attended William Woods College at Fulton, Mo., and State Teachers College in Maryville, Mo. She received a bachelor of science degree in home economics from the University of Missouri in Columbia and did graduate work at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. Mrs. Latif taught home economics in Lathrop, Mo., and Frederickstown, Mo., and in 1940, began working as a home economist for the Extension Service of the United States Department of Agriculture in southeast Missouri and in Liberty, Mo. She worked as a home economist in Pakistan from 1952-56 before moving to Silver City to serve in that capacity until retiring in 1972. She returned to Gower in 1989. Mrs. Latif was preceded in death by two brothers, William E. Everett and Albert L. Everett, and three sisters, Bessie Everett, Ruth Thomas and Nellie Walkup. She is survived by one brother, J.C. Everett of Gower; several nieces and nephews; other relatives; and many friends. Graveside services were to be held this afternoon at 2 at Allen Cemetery in Gower. The family suggests memorials to Gower Christian Church. Hixon Klein Funeral Home of Gower is in charge of arrangements.

LATTA: Funeral services were held Sunday at the Bayard Baptist Church for Mrs. John P. Latta, 50, resident of Hurley, who passed away last Saturday at Hillcrest Hospital. Conducting the rites was the Rev. A. L. Hingston. Burial took place in the Silver City Cemetery, under the direction of the Cox Mortuary.

LATTA: Mrs. Leota C. Latta, 75, a former resident of Santa Rita, died Dec. 18 at her home in Santa Ana, Calif. She was the widow of the late F. Raymond Latta, former employee of Chino Mines Division, Kennecott Copper Corp. Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Earl Frwy of Santa Ana and Mrs. Audrey Johnson of New York City; and one niece, Mrs. Gerald Jessup of Santa Ana. Graveside burial services were held Wednesday at 3 p.m. in the Masonic Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Harold E. Johnson. Interment was under direction of the Curtis Mortuary.

LAVERTY: Charles G. Laverty, 76, died Tuesday, Jan 6, in Martinez Veterans Hospital in California. Mr. Laverty was born in Denver, Colo. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Davidson Laverty of New Castle, Calif.; four sons, retired Col. Wayne B Laverty of Washington, D.C., Dale P. Laverty of The Hague Amsterdam, Jerald V. Mattews of London, England, and Dennis M. Mattews of Fremont, Calif.; seven grandsons, and one granddaughter. LAWLESS: Larry Dan Lawless, eight year old son of Rev. and Mrs. Jim Lawless of Central, passed away Tuesday after a brief illness. The father is the Baptist Church pastor at Central. Besides his parents, survivors are a brother, Billy, and two sisters, Gail and Debby; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James Lawless, Austin, Texas, and maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Jones, Forest City, Ark. Funeral services were held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Curtis Mortuary chapel. Conducting the rites were the Rev. Lawless, the Rev. George Newman and Dr. Claude Williams. Burial will take place in Memorial Cemetery in Austin, Texas.

LAWLESS: Roy Lawless, 72, of Las Cruces died Saturday at Las Cruces Health Care Center. He was born July 29, 1920, in Lookenba, Okla. Mr. Lawless served in the U.S. armed forces as a sergeant during World War II. He moved to Silver City from Oklahoma in 1959. He was a member of the Catholic Church. Mr. Lawless is survived by his wife, Andrea Lawless of Las Cruces; one son, Bryan Lawless of Santa Fe; one daughter, D'ana Torres of Las Cruces; four brothers, Ben Lawless of Calumet, Okla., Bob Lawless of El Reno, Okla., Dale Lawless of Denver, and Mel Lawless of the Virgin Islands; two sisters, Alma Moberly of Calumet and Iva Benjaman of California; three grandchildren, Anthony Torres, Amanda Torres and Ryan Lawless; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Claude Raymond Lawless, his mother, Dory Lawless, and his father, Frank Lawless. Visitation will be held from 6:30-7 tonight at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Bayard. The prayer vigil will follow at 7 p.m. The funeral liturgy will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 6, at the same church. Committal will follow at Fort Bayard National Cemetery. Officiating will be the Rev. Paulus Kao. Pallbearers will be Rudy and Jack Sierra, Rick Torres, Bobby Trevizo, and Celso and J.R. Zamora. Honorary pallbearers will be his family members. LAWMAN: Melvin Walter Lawman, 78, died Wednesday morning in Silver City. Mr. Lawman was born in Monte Vista, Colo and worked as a supervisor in mining operations. His residence was in Superior, Ariz. He is survived by one son, Rodney Lawman of Silver City; and four grandchildren, Timothy Melvin. Charles Hodges, Lansing Daniel and Forrest James Lawman, all of Silver City.. Graveside services were held at 11 am Thursday morning in Mountain View Memorial Gardens in Mesa Ariz., with the Rev. J. Erhin Moore Jr. officiating. Local funeral arrangements were by Wheeler Funeral Home.

LAWN: Floyd E. Lawn, a former employee of the Kennecott copper corp. in Hurley, suffered a fatal heart attack in Casa Grandes, AZ last Monday. He is survived by his widow, Ethel; one son, Dean of Albuquerque; one grandchild; two brothers, William, of  Riverside, Ca, and Frank of El Paso Tex. Funeral services were held the Mahoney Chapel Deming on Friday.

LAWRENCE: Jack Lawrence, custodian of the Veteran's Center, died suddenly Tuesday evening from a heart attack. Having just finished his dinner, he complained of not feeling well and collapsed soon after. The deceased was a favorite of the veterans of the organizations of the center and his passing came as a shock to all. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Cox Mortuary Chapel. Burial will be in the Silver City Cemetery. Near survivors are his widow, Edith Howell Lawrence and a niece. LAWRENCE: Funeral services for Jack S. Lawrence, 78. Caretaker at the veterans center, will be held in Cox mortuary chapel it 2 p.m. tomorrow with the Rev. John Carpenter officiating Burial will be in Silver City cemetery. Active pa11bearers will be Harry Thomas, Byron Miller, Melvin White, Len Marshall, T. C. Griffin and Lynn Detwiller. Honorary pallbearers will be Josh Brent, Frank Skidmore, Merle Brig, H.0.Robertson, Ed McIntosh, Lee Herdman, J.T. Allred, Jim Holland and Matt Herres. Lawrence died Tuesday night in the veteran’s center, where he made his home.

LAWRENCE: Mrs. Edith Lawrence, who for more than 20 years served as custodian of the United Veterans Center in Silver City, passed away March 20 at the apartment in the Center. She suffered a fall that day and the shock caused a fatal heart attack. Mrs. Lawrence was the widow of Jack Lawrence, who died some years ago. She was active for many years in the American Legion Auxiliary and other organizations and the faithful performance of her duties at the Veterans Center was a labor of devotion. Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Della Face of San Diego, Calif.; a brother, William Howell of San Francisco; a nephew, Raymond Howell of Oahu, Hawaii; two nieces, Mrs. Lavern French and Mrs. Phyllis Carr, and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Men Zeigler, all of Silver City. Funeral services were held at the Curtis Mortuary chapel, the Rev. Kenneth Ford of the First Methodist -Church conducting the rites. Burial was in the Silver City cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Hubert O Robertson, Joe Ray Howell, Lewis Huber, Harry Thomas, Lynn Detweiler and Samuel Ortiz.  

 

LAWRENCE: Frank King Lawrence, 78, of Pensacola, Fla., passed away Monday at the residence of his son, Beryl M. Lawrence, in Hurley. He was born Jan. 3, 1916, to Theodore M. and Amelia Belle (King) Lawrence in Kingston, IL. He worked as a general contractor in the construction business and had the talent to build buildings from the ground up. Mr. Lawrence is survived by three daughters, Sharon Lyle of Genoa, Ill, Diane Toothman of Mayport, Fla., and Jane Barnes of Pensacola; four sons, Beryl M. Lawrence and his wife, Phyllis of Hurley, Frank K. Lawrence Jr. of Pensacola, Daniel M. Lawrence of Poplar Grove, Ill, and Bryan Lawrence of Pensacola; a sister, Francis Chaplin of Kingston Ill.; 23 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 8-10 a.m. Wednesday at Curtis-Bright Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Curtis-Bright Funeral Home chapel with Beryl M. Lawrence, missionary, officiating. Interment will follow in the Hurley Cemetery with Pastor Kirby Hathaway officiating. Family members selected Curtis-Bright Funeral Home of Silver City to serve them.

LAWRENCE: Eleanor L. Lawrence, 46, recently died at her home in Silver City. Ms. Lawrence was born July 1, 1948, in Salinas, Calif. In 1974, she moved from Newport News, Va., to Silver City, where she worked as a nursing assistant at Fort Bayard Medical Center. She is survived by her daughter, Yvonne Russell of Newport News, and two sons, Jimmy Triviso of Truth or Consequences and Christopher Russell of Hampton, Va. A memorial service was held Thursday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with the Rev. Rod Nichols officiating. Entrusted to the care of Baca's Funeral Chapels and Mimbres Crematorium.

LAWSON: Mrs. Janie Lee Lawson, 76, former pioneer resident of Pinos Altos, passed away May 4 at her home in Tucson, Ariz., where she had lived for many years. Mrs. Lawson was born in Camborne, England, and came to Pinos Altos in 1893 with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R.R. Lee. The family was well known throughout this community, having also lived at Leopold, where she was postmistress for several years, and at Tyrone and Fort Bayard, moving to Arizona in 1917. Preceding her in death were her husband, G.H. Lawson and a son, Clarence R. Lawson. Mrs. Lawson was a member of the Order of Eastern Star for 39 years, the Rebekah Lodge 28 years and a past president of the Spanish-American War Veterans Auxiliary. Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Maud L. Yeager and Mrs. Winifred Gilmore of El Paso and Mrs. Mary L. Bloom, Toledo, Ohio; two grandchildren, Thelma Elaine Lawson and Jimmie Lawson, Stockton. Calif.; two nieces, Mrs. Mabel Prager of El Paso and Miss Katherine Bloom, Toledo, Ohio and a nephew, A. Lee Bloom, El Cajon, Calif. Funeral services were held at Tucson, the Rev. W.L. Phillips of the Episcopal Church officiating. Graveside rites were conducted by the Order of Eastern Star.

LAWTON: John Lawton, Jr., 48, of U. S. Armed Forces, died the past week at Fort Bayard Veterans hospital. He was a resident of Lordsburg. Survivors are two sisters, Mrs. Gene Liddle of Vincennes IN and Mrs. Ruth Rutledge of Odessa Tex., and an 18 year-old son, also of Odessa. Funeral services are pending at the Curtis Mortuary.

LAZOWSKY: John Lazowsky, chief of detectives for the Grant County Sheriff's Office, died at his residence Tuesday morning. He had been head of the Criminal Investigation Division of the Sheriff's Office since 1971. A resident of Silver City for two and one half years, Lazowsky served as sheriff in Catron County from 1966 to 1970, serving two terms. He served in the United States Marine Corps form Aug. 15, 1943 to Oct. 31, 1955 when he retired. Lazowsky saw duty in World War II in the South Pacific and the Korean War, and received the Navy Cross, the Silver Star, the Navy Commendation, the Purple Heart, the President's Citation, and the Korean Presidential Citation during his term in the military service. The son of Dora Bobby and Benjamin Lazowsky, he was born in Manville, N.J. Lazowsky was well known in the Southwest as an instrumental figure in the battle against drug use and abuse, and is credited with incrementing the Metro-Narcotics Squad to combine forces against the disease of drug misuse in this area. Survives include his wife, Eleanor of Silver City, one daughter, Mrs. Lorraine McCarty of Silver City; one grandchild; two brothers, Frank of Clinton, N.J. and Joe of Manville, N.J.; two sisters, Mrs. Ann Borman, Long Island, N.Y.; and Mrs. Stella Jackson, Paulding, Ohio. Services are set for 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Curtis-Btight Funeral Home in Silver City, with the Rev. Harold Dykstra of the Reserve Presbyterian Church and Rev. Donald Brent of the First Baptist Church of Silver City officiating. Pall bearers will be Sheriff Porfilio Romero of Catron County; Sheriff Steve Ray Aguirre; James Peller; Orville Goodin; Buddy Allred and Dr. L.G. Foster of Reserve. Lazowsky will be burial at Fort Bayard Veterans Cemetery with full Marine Corps Military honors.

LEA: Melvin O Lea died Sunday at Hillcrest General Hospital. He was born in Natchez, Mississippi and had been a resident of Silver City since 1939. He was a retired insurance executive and a member of the First United Methodist church of Silver City. Mr. Lea is survived by three daughters, Mildred Addington of Prescott Ariz, Margaret Greer of Oceanside Calif, and Betty Love of Show Low Ariz; one son, Mike O Lea of Lake Isabelle Calif; 16 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Howard Lea and a daughter Ernestine Johnson. Services were held Wednesday, Aug 30 at 1:00 in the Curtis Bright Funeral chapel. Burial followed at Memory Lane cemetery, Silver City with the Rev David Saucier officiating. Arrangements were by Curtis Bright.

LEA: Mrs. Grace Lea, 55, a resident of Hurley for the past 34 years, passed away Monday in Hillcrest General Hospital, following a brief illness. She was the wife of Frank Lea, owner and manager of the Hurley General Store, and for many years active in conduct of the store with her husband. Mrs. Lea had a wide circle of friends throughout the mining district. She was interested in community and church affairs in which she had a leading part and her death following a brief illness is mourned. Besides her husband, other immediate survivors of the family are two daughters, Mrs. Frances Ozment and Mrs. Patricia Etheredge, and five grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Curtis Mortuary chapel. The rites were conducted by the Rev. Ernest T. Berkeley, pastor of the Hurley Community Church, and the Rev. Harold E. Johnson, pastor of the Santa Rita Community Church. Serving as pallbearers at the funeral were Sam Stearman, Ray Steyskal, John Menard, Mal Rivera, L. E. Whitham and Fred Stevenson. Interment was in the mausoleum at the Masonic cemetery.

LEA: Frank F. Lea, 82, longtime Grant County resident, entered eternal rest Tuesday afternoon in Albuquerque. He was born March 22, 1908, in Douglas, Ariz., and came to Santa Rita in 1929. He started as a meat cutter for the Santa Rita Store Co. In 1946, he moved to Hurley and managed the Santa Rita Store Co., which he eventually bought in 1959. He changed the name to Hurley Store and operated the business until his retirement in 1975. He then moved to Silver City, where he spent the remaining years of his life. He was an active member of the Kiwanis Club of Hurley and contributed greatly to the improvement of Scott Memorial Golf Park. He was also a member of the Valley Community Church. Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10 in Baca's Hillcrest Funeral Chapels with the Rev. Ken Schultz and David Strain officiating. He will be laid to rest in Memory Lane Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Bernice of Silver City; two daughters, Frances Ozment and her husband, Guy, of Cliff and Linda Emerson and her husband, Joe, of Silver City; nine grandchildren, Brenda Lenderman, Deanna Frost, Eddie Ozment, Mike Meredith, Kim Burk, Greg Bailey, Cindy Foster, and Frank and Bob Etheredge; and 20 great-grandchildren, Bobbie and Travis Lenderman, Jason, Rusty, John and Jori Frost, Brandy, Cody and Chance Ozment, Stephanie Chapman, Curtis Meredith, Sean Bailey, John and Kelly Foster, and Charlie, Rachel, Earl, Nadine and Dawn Ruebush. Casket bearers will be Gene Southwick, Phil Muller, Mike Meredith, Larry Lenderman, Boyd Frost and Eddie Ozment. Serving as honorary bearers will be Charles Stretz, Bill Frazier, Bill Jackson, Harold Dunnigan, Fred Crawford and Kiwanis Club members. He was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Shari Lenderman, on Jan. 31, 1989; a daughter, Patricia Etheredge, on May 8, 1985; and a son-in-law, Earl Etheredge, on May 3, 1987. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to the Heart Foundation.

Lea of Silver City; three sisters, Mrs. Betty Love of Ajo, Ariz., Mrs. Mildred Addington of Las Vegas, Nev., and Mrs. Margaret Greek of Oceanside, Calif.; one brother, Melvin Lea of Bakersfield, Calif.

LEACH: Harley T. Leach, 82, of Silver City passed away Friday at Homestead Nursing Home. Services are pending with Bright Funeral Home.

LEACH: Mrs. Frances Ivan Leach, 70, passed away in Silver City last Wednesday, following a brief illness1 A resident of Grant County for more than 40 years, Mrs. Leach was actively associated with her husband, Albert A. Leach, mining engineer and geologist, in development and operation of extensive mining properties in the White Signal District, Born in West Virginia, Mrs. Leach at the age of 25 married Mr. Leach, a graduate of the engineering school of Columbia University. Thereafter they began a colorful mining career in Sonora, Mexico. Following the assassination in 1914 of President Francisco Madero and a revolution, they, with other Americans, had to leave Mexico. Mr. and Mrs. Leach came to New Mexico, locating valuable mineral claims in Grant County. They were credited with making the first discovery of Uranium in this area but the deposits failed to be of commercial value. Surviving are her husband, three sisters, Mrs. Posle Harrell, Silver City, Mrs. Laura Burns and Mrs. Mary Gustavson, Sun Valley, Calif., and a brother, L. H. Foster, Duncan, Ariz. Funeral mass was said at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church Saturday at 9 a.m. by the Rev. Fr. Carl F. Nieset. Burial took place in the family plot in the Silver City cemetery under the direction of the Cox Mortuary.

LEACH: Betty Sue Hyman Leach, 59, entered life eternal Sunday afternoon at her residence in Mimbres. She was born Dec. 18, 1933, in Santa Fe, Okla. Mrs. Leach was the broker and owner of Sunrise Realty in the Mimbres Valley. She was a member of the Mimbres Valley Community Church. The funeral service will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 at Baca's Funeral Chapels, with the Rev. Ray Keene officiating. She will be laid to rest at New Velma Cemetery in Velma, Okla. Survivors include her husband, Roger I. Leach of Mimbres; her mother, Ora McClanahan of Duncan, Okla.; and four stepchildren, Melissa Leach and Lucas Leach, both of Mimbres, Roger B. Leach of Lincoln, Neb., and Larry P. Leach of Buffalo, N.Y. She is also survived by Ronnie McClanahan of Andrews, Texas, a nephew who was raised by Mrs. Leach; one sister, Joy Terrel of Comanche, Okla.; four brothers, J.T. and Ray McClanahan, both of Velma, Otis McClanahan of Mimbres and Don McClanahan of Streeman, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. LEACH: Roger Irvin Leach, 70, a resident of Mimbres, entered into rest Friday at his residence. He was born April 15, 1927, in Warren, Ohio. Mr. Leach retired from the U.S. Air Force as a technical sergeant and was a member of Mimbres Lodge No. 10, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons. The funeral service will he held Monday at 2 p.m. at Baca’s Funeral Chapels with the Rev. Bill Trafton officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Bayard National Cemetery with military honors accorded by local veterans groups and Mimbres Lodge No. 10, AF&AM. LEACH: Thomas B. Leach, 87, died Tuesday at his home in Las Cruces. He was born March 10, 1907, in Kentucky. He was a retired shovel repairman with Chino Mines. Mr. Leach is survived by his son, Tom Leach of Las Cruces, and by his daughter, Shirley Jackson of Las Cruces. He is also survived by three brothers, A.K. Leach of Tucumcari, Wallace Leach of Gallup and Earnest Leach of Portales; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a faithful friend, Virginia "Blackie" Black of Las Cruces. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at Getz Funeral Home in Las Cruces. The funeral service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Getz Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Masonic Cemetery. LEACH: Vada E. Leach, 76, died Monday at her home in Las Cruces. She was a homemaker. She is survived by her husband, Tom Leach, a son, Tom Leach Jr., and a daughter, Shirley E. Jackson, all of Las Cruces; a sister, Eva De Braal of Bayard; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today at Getz Funeral Home in Las Cruces. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m., also at Getz Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Masonic Cemetery. Officiating will be Pastor Norman Jones of the Faith Chapel. LEAKE: Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Leake Sr. of the Mimbres have received word from Gen. Hoyt Vanderburg of the death of their son Capt. Bruce Leake jr. while participating in action in Korea. Capt. Leake was a jet fighter pilot who was first reported missing in action on Oct. 8 and later his parents received a letter dated Oct. 21 in which it was stated that he had bailed out over friendly troops but was injured. At that time there were no further details. Capt. Leake was a member of the Army Air Force and a veteran of WW II. He had been flying missions in Korea since the beginning of the fighting. He had lived in this area all his life and was graduated from Hurley high school. His wife has been visiting her sister near Chicago since her return from the Philippines after the Korean War begun.

LEAKE: Blanche Teel Leake, 86, died Friday in Phoenix, Ariz. She was born July 20, 1899 in the lower Mimbres Valley to Hugh and Alma Teel. She was preceded in death in 1982 by her husband, Daniel Bruce Leake Sr. Mrs. Leake was a lifelong resident of the Mimbres Valley, and the Leake’s were active in mining operations for many years. Two children resulted from their 62-year marriage, Capt. Daniel Bruce Leake Jr., who died in 1950 in the Korean conflict, and Dr. Jordan T. Leake, a Phoenix medical doctor. Other survivors include three grandchildren, B. Allen Leake of Silver City, and Brett Leake and Christopher Leake, both of Phoenix; two great-grandchildren, Lisa Leake Huff of Los Alamos and Gred Leake of Silver City; and two great-great-grandchildren, Christopher and Danielle Huff, both of Los Alamos. Graveside funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Deming Cemetery. The family requests that donations be made in lieu of flowers to the Silver City Library or to the Silver City Museum Society Building Fund. LEAKE: Daniel Bruce Leake, died Wednesday, May 5 in Phoenix, Ariz. Leake was born August 28, 1892 in Knoxville, Tenn., the son of Jordan Francis and Jennie Sanberg Leake, and moved to the Southwest before World War I. He was an operator for various mining companies and later owned and operated the Pinos Altos Television Service, retiring three years ago. Leake served with the Army Corps of Engineers during World War I and was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Arizona. He is survived by his wife Blanche of Phoenix; one son, Dr. Jordan Leake of Phoenix; two sisters, Ann Leake and Christine Leake and one brother, Howard Leake, all of Birmingham, Ala.; and three grandchildren. Funeral services were at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 9 in the Curtis-Bright Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside services were at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 10 in Mountain View Cemetery, Deming. Both services were under the direction of Rev. Ira Turner. Arrangements were by the Curtis- Bright Funeral Home.

LEAMER: Margery Irene Leamer, 76, Died Friday in Fort Bayard. Mrs. Leamer was born in Marion County Ohio, and was a resident of Grant Count for about 10 years. She was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons and was a graduate of Ohio State University. She is survived by her husband, Merrill D. Learner of Silver City, one daughter, Jean Tippin of San Diego, Calif. One stepdaughter, Gail Nevilt of Williamsburg, Pa.; three grandchildren, David Parker of Seattle, Wash. David Nevitt of Los Angeles, Tim Nevitt of Williamsburg and two great-grandchildren. Memorial services wil1 be held at 7pm Thursday at the Wheeler Funeral home chapel with the Rev. LEONARD: Funeral services for Herbert K. Leonard, 49, who died Friday, at Presbyterian Memorial Hospital in Albuquerque after a week’s Illness, were held Sunday at the Cox Mortuary Chapel with the Revs David Holt officiating He was buried in the Masonic Cemetery with graveside services conducted, by Silver City Lodge No. 8, AF&AM,of which he was a member. Owner of the Leonard Motor Co. here for several years, Mr. Leonard had been a resident of Silver City for 32 years. He was a member of the Grant County Automobile Dealers Assn., a former Rotarian, and an active member of the Episcopalian Church, having served as vestryman of the Church of the Good Shepherd here. LEONARD: Lillian Ann Bilbrey Leonard, 93, born Aug. 1, 1904, in Plainview, Texas, died Sunday at Socorro Good Samaritan Village, where she had been a resident for eight years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Robert Leonard Sr., who died in 1980. She is survived by three children, her daughter Bertie, and her husband, Ambers Gum, of Magdalena; and her sons, Robert Leonard Jr. of Silver City, and Bill Leonard and his wife, Evelyn, of Mayhill; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one sister, Mae Denny of Jal; one brother, Waymond P. Bilbrey of Crossroads; and two sisters-in-law, Talitha Bilbrey of Crossroads and Genevieve Leonard of Chico, Calif. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Interment will take place in the Lovington Cemetery. Graveside services will he held at 10 am Friday. LEBAU: In a telegram received Saturday, Aug. 3, by Mrs. Ben Deck Silver City, she was advised of the sudden death of her brother, George LeBeau, 42 at the home of his mother, Mrs. Martha Bush in San Diego, Calif. Besides his mother, he is survived by his sister here and a brother, Arthur LeBeau, Logan, Utah. The deceased was reared in Silver City, leaving for California about 20 years ago where he had since resided. He was a veteran of World War I. Funeral services were held Monday in San Diego, where interment took place. Mrs. Deck attended the funeral, leaving for the coast when advised of her brother’s death.

LECHUGA: D. M. Lechuga, 50, of Hurley, an employee of Kennecott Copper Corp. was killed Saturday night when struck by a car when he crossed the highway in North Hurley. It was Grant County third traffic fatality this year. According to State Police Patrolman Gene Tow, who investigated the accident, driver of the car which struck Lechuga was Mrs. Louise Hendrix of Milan, N.M. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Simona Lechuga; two sons, Edward and Steve; a daughter, Helen; brother, Louis and three’ sisters, Mrs. Juanita Aguilar, Mrs. Manuela Madrid and Mrs. Antonia Martinez, all of Hurley. Rosary services were held Sunday evening at the Curtis Mortuary chapel. Mass was said at 10 a.m. Monday in the Hurley Catholic Church, the Rev. Fr. Ramon Estivill, officiating. Burial was in the Hurley cemetery.

LECHUGA: Carmen Lechuga, 96, a resident of Grant County, died Monday at Gila Regional Medical Center. Services are pending. Entrusted to the care of Baca’s Funeral Chapels.

LECHUGA: Death last Friday at the family home in Hurley, summoned Mrs. Crispina M. Lechuga, 72, who had lived there for 40 years. Rosary services were held at the Infant Jesus Catholic Church in Hurley Sunday evening, followed by mass at 9 a.m. Monday the Rev.Fr. Ramon Estivill officiating. Burial was in the Sherman cemetery on the Mimbres River. Surviving are two sons, Luis and Daniel, Hurley; three daughters, Mrs. Juanita Aguilera, Mrs. Manuela Madrid and Mrs. Antonia Martinez, Hurley; two brothers, Francisco Martinez, San Francisco and Cipriano Martinez, Silver City and 14 grandchildren.

LEDOUX: Mrs. Elizabeth K LeDoux, 86, resident of Silver City for 50 years, passed away Tuesday night at Hillcrest General Hospital. Survivors are a brother living In Virginia and several nieces and nephews in Silver City. Funeral arrangements are pending at the Curtis Mortuary

LEE: Bow Yuen Lee 58 who operated the Bow’s market on Broadway and Tyrone trading post for the past several years passed away Thursday at Fort Bayard veteran’s hospital after an illness of a year and a half. Mr. Yee was born in China and came to the United States shortly before WWI during which time he served with the U S Forces. He moved to Silver City in the early 20’s. He is survived by four sons, Jack, Dick, and Ben of Silver city and Geene of Salinas CA; one daughter Yee Mee Wah of China three grandchildren and five brothers, Jun Hoa of Silver City, Eddie of Salinas, and one brother in China. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 3PM at the Cox mortuary chapel with the Rev David Holt of the Episcopal church officiating. Internment was in the Silver City cemetery. Pallbearers were Hom Hong, Frank Yee, W Tom, Sam Mar, Sherman Wong and Fred Mar.

LEE: Clarence J. Lee, 58, Silver City a resident for 20 years, died Saturday at Hillcrest General Hospital. He had been in ill health for several years. Born in Miami, Fla., he was a retired pharmacist and in recent years had worked as assistant manager of the Murray Hotel. Survivors include Mr. Lee’s widow, Mrs. Margaret Lee of Silver City; his daughter, Mrs. Sandra (Tim) Brancheau of Glendora, Calif.; three grandchildren; his father, D. J. Lee, and three sisters, Miss Mary Lee, Mrs. William Legere and Mrs. L. W. Lotspeich, all of Miami. Funeral services were held Wednesday in the Wheeler Mortuary chapel at Deming with burial in Mountain View Cemetery
