JACK: Mrs. Maud M. Jack, 97, died at Resthaven Nursing Home Saturday
afternoon following after an extended illness. Mrs. Jack was a native of New
York City, N. Y., and had lived in Grant County for the past 16 years. She was a
retired registered nurse. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Mary McGowan of
Annapolis, Md.; four grandchildren; one brother Herbert G. Biedermann of
Freeport, Long Island. N Y and two foster sons, Milton Bickle or Greenwich,
Conn., and Paul E. Bickle of Miami, Fla. Graveside services were held at the
Pinos Altos Cemetery at 3 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Clifton M. Hehderson of the
Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd officiating. The family had requested that
in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Episcopal Church of the Good
Shepherd. Curtis Bright Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
JACKSON: D. L. (Dave) Jackson the unofficial caretaker of the ghost town of
White Oaks has suffered a stroke and is in poor condition at the Carrizozo
hospital. A hospital spokesman said the 91-year-old Negro was admitted to the
hospital April 19 and doesn’t recognize anyone. Jackson once was part owner of
one of the richest mines, which caused the growth of White Oaks. Since the mines
played out, he remained at the town, looking after cemetery and acting as the
unofficial historian.
JACKSON: Henry Clay Jackson, 83, a pioneer resident of Grant County, who died at
his North Hurley last Wednesday, Dec 21 was buried in the Silver city cemetery.
Hineman's funeral home made arrangements. Jackson was born in Georgetown, Tex.
And later moved to Jones county where he farmed along the Brazos river until
1894. In 1901 he and his wife moved to New Mexico and in 1902 Jackson bought the
Horse Shoe X ranch in Central which he ran for several years on the site of the
present Foy Lumber Co. Later he became a peace officer in Hurley, retiring in
1933 and moving to his home north of Hurley, where he died. Survivors are his
wife and a son, Loyal, both of North Hurley; I two grandchildren, Curtis Jackson
of Pines Altos and Miss Jo Jo Jackson of Hot Springs; three brothers. Samuel of
Wink, Tex.; C. B. of Sparks, Nev., and James E. of Radium Springs, and three
sisters, Mrs. Mary Coon of Woolforth, Tex.; Mrs. Ed Martin of Southland Tex.,
and Mrs. Fannie Grisham of Hawley, Tex. Pallbearers were Marion L. Thortwood,
Carl Jackson, Royal Jackson, Jack Upton, Jene Upton and Voss Yates.
JACKSON: James Lee "Jim” Jackson, 59 passed away Sunday, Oct. 10, at his home in
Los Lunas. Cremation has taken place. Graveside H memorial services will be
conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday H in Mountain View Cemetery H with the Rev. Ed
Ambrose officiating. Mr. Jackson was born March 23, 1940, in Morenci, Ariz. He
grew up in Lordsburg from the age of 4 and was baptized in the Lordsburg Church
of Christ in 1950. He graduated in 1958 from Lordsburg High School, where he was
active in football. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Chowonic, a tug,
and the USS Los Angeles, a heavy cruiser. Mr. Jackson returned to the Southwest
and worked for many years as a truck driver in El Paso, Texas, and Albuquerque.
He will be remembered and missed by many. Mr. Jackson is survived by his wife,
Laura Ellen, of Los Lunas; four stepchildren, Matthew L Towne of Albuquerque,
Bradley Todd of Artesia, Susan Thompson of Aurora, Colo., and Daniel Todd of
Crane, Texas; his mother, H Nadine Jackson of Las Cruces; a sister. Ada Jean. H
and her husband, Don Rhodes, of Arcadia, Calif.; a nephew, Ronald Rhodes of
Monrovia, Calif.; a niece, Karen Morones of San Dimas, Calif.; his great-nephew,
Mitchell; and great-nieces, Melanie and Allison. He was preceded in death by his
father, Lewis Jackson, on Dec 25 1974. Entrusted to Lordsburg funeral home.
JACKSON: John W. Jackson, 83, of Hurley died Friday in Gila Regional Medical
Center Arrangements are pending with Bright Funeral Home.
Loyal M Jackson, 63, died Oct. 9 at the Fort Bayard Medical center. Mr Jackson
was a life long resident of this community being born in Central.. He is
survived by a son, Curtis Duane Jackson of Azrec; and a daughter, Mrs. Joyce
Weber of Denver. Funeral services were held in the Curtis Bright funeral Chapel
Wednesday at 2pm with the Allington-golding Post No 18 of the American Legion in
charge of both the services and graveside rites. Casket bearers were R L McCoun,
Hugo Kuester, John Reynolds, Ervin Pruitt, Frank Combs, and Nobel LaFond.
JACKSON: Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 26, for Miss Helen Hunt
Jackson at the Curtis Mortuary chapel, the Rev. Harold 5. Johnson of Santa Rita
Community Church officiating. Miss Jackson was born Dec. 18, 1902, in Santa
Rita, living practically all of her life in Grant County. She graduated from
High School and New Mexico Western University in Silver City, and taught in the
Santa Rita Public School system 39 years. Active in community affairs, Miss
Jackson was a member of Santa Rita Community Church, a charter member and past
president of Delta Kappa Gamma sorority of Silver City.A brother, Norman Jackson
of Baltimore, Maryland, preceded her in death six weeks ago. She is survived by
two sisters, Mrs. Harvey Forsyth of Gila and Mrs. Mary Mitchell, of Truth or
Con. sequences, seven nieces and seven nephews. Pallbearers were H. J. Nunn,
Stewart Warrick, Dan G. Thorne, Walter Oglesby, Sammy Grijalva and J D.
McLehaney. Honorary pallbearers were Haskel B. Smith, Jack Hardin, Bob Mackey,
Robert Jackson, Sr., William Head, Wade Martin,Roy Clark, Claude Rasor and James
(Bili) Herbert Knect. Mrs. Ed Hopkins of T or C, Mrs. Don Pruitt and Mrs. Richard
Faut of Fort Collins, Colo., and Donald John Barnett of Kansas City, Mo., came
for the funeral services of their aunt. Also, another niece, Mrs. Bob Rose of
Morenci, Ariz., attended the last rites.
JACKSON: Mrs. Dora Portwood Jackson, 86, died last week in the Fortenberry rest
home. Born in Texas, she and her husband first settled near, Central at what is
now the Foy ranch. Since the death of her husband, she has made her home with
Mrs. Lionel Haggerson, niece. Surviving are a son, Lionel Jackson of Hillsboro;
several nieces and nephews, Royal Jackson, Alamogordo; Carl Jackson, Deming;
Mrs. Jen Upton, Mimbres; Voss and Kelin Yates, Deming; Mrs. Irvin Barrow, Fort
Worth; J. R. Longfellow, San Jose, Calif.; Marion Portwood, Silver City; Mrs. C.
J. Hyatt, El Paso; Lon Portwood, Carlsbad; Mrs. Mabel Christy, El Paso; Mrs.
Glen Mills, El Paso, and. Mrs. Haggerson.Services were held at Hinman Funeral
Home. Burial was in Silver City Cemetery. Pallbearers were her nephews.
JACKSON: Mrs. Hazel Jackson died at her home at Truth or Consequences on Nov. 21
following a long illness. She was a native of New Mexico, born August 24, 1896,
in Pine Cienega. She was the former Hazel Pitts, of Cliff, member of a pioneer
Grant County family. Survivors include her husband, James H. Jackson; a
daughter, Mrs. Edna Harlan, Hatch: son, James, Jr., of Oregon and five
grandchildren. Four sisters, Mrs. Winnie Clark, Silver City: Mrs. May Moss, Long
Beach, Calif., Mrs. Owen Norris, Waverly, Kansas; Mrs. William Brent, Yuma,
Arizona, and one brother. Duke Pitts, Cliff. The French FitzgeraId Mortuary was
in charge of arrangements with services in the mortuary chapel. Interment was in
Hatch cemetery, on Saturday. Mrs. Clark, Bertha Clark and Duke Pitts attended the
services.
BROWN: Mrs. Robert Jackson, Sr., has received word of the death on Jan. 16 of
Mrs. Jennie C. Brown at her home in Sheldon, Vermont, where she had lived in
recent years at the home of her brother, A. J. Soule. Mrs. Brown was the aunt of
Philip, Russell and the late Ruby Bartlett. She was a pioneer resident of Silver
City, coming here in 1896.
LEGHORN: Mrs., Robert. Jackson Sr. was advised by Mrs. Agnes Sully Leghorn, of
Osterville Cape Cod, Mass., of the death of her husband, George M. Leghorn, 74
of a heart attack while on a brief visit with a son to St. Thomas In the Virgin
Islands on June 3. Mrs. Leghorn was reared at Santa Rita, the daughter of John
M. Sully, who as the first general manager of Chino Copper Company, developed
and brought into production the huge open pit mine of Kennecott Copper Corp. at
Santa Rita. Her 'father's vision of a profitable copper property was realized
years later. Today, the open pit mine is one of the world's largest mining
operations and likewise one of New Mexico's biggest industries. Besides Mrs.
Leghorn, immediate survivors are two sons, Richard S. Leghorn, Boston, Mass. and
Kenneth M. J. Leghorn, of Rochester, N. Y., together with five grandchildren.
Funeral services and burial took place in Cape Cod.
JACKSON: Miss Stellà Jackson, a member of a pioneer family of Silver City, died
Sunday morning in Phoenix, where she had lived for several years. Miss Jackson,
who was born in Missouri, was an aunt of Mary Culberson, Mrs. Tom Lowe, Russell
Agee, the late Swim Agee, the late Jack Agee, Eugene Agee, W. L. Jackson and'
Robert Jackson, Sr. She received her education in Missouri, where she lived
until a young lady. She came to Silver City in the 80's and taught school
inPinos Altos for several years. Funeral services were held in Phoenix
yesterday.
JACKSON: Word was received this week of the death August 29 of Norman A. Jackson
in Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Md. He was the son of the late Mr. and
Mrs. James Jackson of Pinos Altos and Las Cruces. Norman was born in Pinos Altos
on January 7, 1906. He spent several years in Plnos Altos, at the 85 Mine at
Valedon, Hidalgo County, and Las Cruces. He was a World War 11 veteran and for
the past eight years had been employed by the Humble Oil Co. Mass was said
September 2 at the Catholic Cathedral in Baltimore with burial in the Nationa1
Cemetery there. Survivors are Mrs. Harvey Forsyth of Gila; Mrs. Mary Mitchell of
Truth or Consequences; Miss Helen Hunt Jackson of Santa Rita; and several
nieces and nephews.
JACKSON: Funeral services were held. Monday, July 10 for Robert Jackson, widely
known Silver City pharmacist whose death occurred at age 81 in El Paso July 5.
"Bobby," as he was known to practically everyone in this area, had gone to El
Paso for medical treatment and was found dead in his hotel room there by hotel
employees. The oldest and longest practicing pharmacist in Grant County, Mr.
Jackson worked long days and into the evening in the prescription department of
the Howell Drug Co. and made countless trips to the store to prepare emergency
prescriptions during the nights for many years. Few people are as devoted to
their profession and community as the deceased was over a period of nearly 60
years. Robert Jackson was born Oct. 6, 1890 in Canton, Mo. and came to Silver
City at age 21. He and the former Ruth Carter were married here in May 1917.
Mrs. Jackson preceded her husband in death in 1967 and a, son, Robert Jackson,
Jr. died in 1969. Following the deaths of many Silver City area young men during
the Bataan Death March and the Philipine defeat in World War II in which his
son, Bobby Jackson; Jr. was taken as a prisoner of war, he made its personal
duty to raise and lower the American flag every' day at te intersection of,
Broadway and Bullard steets. The duty ceased only when the flagpole had to be
removed due to traffic conditions. Despite his active life as a pharmacist, Mr.
Jackson always found time to serve his community in other ways and he was
elected and served as a city councilman for 14 years as well as a member of the
school board for 24 years. He was a member of Silver City Lodge No. 8 AF & AM; a
member of the New Mexico Pharmaceutical Association and, in 1961, was named the
"Outstanding Citizen of the Year" and honored at the annual chamber of commerce
banquet at which that annual conferring of the honor is made. Immediate
survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Ruth lull of Silver City and, Mrs. Joan Noble
of Carlsbad, Calif; six grandchildren and two brothers, Boss Jackson of
Connecticut and Milt Jackson of Fayette, Mo. Interment was made in the Masonic
cemetery with the Rev. Clifton M. Herderson, rector of the Church of the Good
Shepherd officiating both at the Curtis Bright Chapel service and those at
graveside. Bearers were Robbie Bearers, Robert Eyerard, Walter Wilson, Steve
Gonzales, Max Schiff, Sheril Kauffman, and Homer Stewart.
MADRID: Funeral services for Maxmiliano B. Madrid, who died at his home early
last Friday morning after a lengthy illness, were held Sunday in Silver City.
The' remains laid in state at the family home on S. Texas St. prior to the
funeral mass which was said at the St. Vintent de Paul Church at 10 am. Sunday
with the Rev. Fr.John P. Llnnane officiating. Burial was in the Silver City
Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Cox Mortuary. Mr. Madrid, who plied the
trade of blacksmith in this community for more than 40 years, has resided here
forthe past 52 years. He was 62 years of age. Survivors are his wife; two
daughters, Mrs. Antonio Sanchez and Mrs. Lotus Arostique, both of Silver City;
five sons, Abram, Emeteri, Esebari, Max, Jr. and Jose; four brothers; Louise
Frank, Torn and Ben Madrid; a sister Mrs. Rafaela Mendoza, .26 grandchildren and
four-great grandchildren.
JACKSON: Thomas Bruce Jackson, 43, passed away November 1. Mr. Jackson was a
native of Canton, Mo. and had lived in Grant county most of his life. He was a
heavy equipment mechanic. Survivors include his wife, Edith of Central; two
daughters, Miss Judy Kay Jackson of Central; and Mrs. Jane Grimes of Clovis: his
father, Wilbur Jackson of Ledyard, Conn. Two sisters, Mrs, Polly Ann Tipolt and
Mrs. Martha Jane Wayland, both of Ledyard Conn. Funeral services were held in
the Curtis-Bright Funeral chapel at, 2:30 Friday.
JACKSON: Walter L.Jackson, 77, died Monday evening in Silver City, Mr. Jackson
was horn in Sedalia Mo., and was a resident of Grant County since 1947. He was
retired from Kennecott where he was a floatation operator. He also worked with
4-H and the Future Farmers of America. Mr. Jackson is survived by two daughters,
Marilyn Moreland of Fort Bayard and Thelma Ward of Arenas Valley; four sons,
Charles Lowell Jackson of south of Hurley, Walter Lee Jackson Jr. of Arenas
Valley, Roy Dean Jackson of Arenas Valley and Norman K. Jackson of Austin,
Texas; one brother, Raymond Jackson of Edgarton, Mo.; 20 grandchildren; 9
great-grandchildren: and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by
his wife Doris Adelene Jackson on Nov. 15, l980. Graveside Services will be held
at 10 am Friday in Memory Lane Cemetery with David Stain officiating. Interment
will follow. Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. Thursday in the Wheeler
Funeral Home chapel. Serving as pallbearers will be Charles Jackson, Lee
Jackson, Roy Jackson, and Norman Jackson; and grandsons, Bill Moreland and Chris
Moreland. Honorary pallbearers will be his other grandsons, Tink Jackson, Rex
Moreland, and Bill Hoyt. Donations can be made to the American Diabetic Fund.

JACKSON: Alma Mae Jackson, age 98, died Wednesday, December 27, at a local
nursing home. Mrs. Jackson, a native of Little Rock, Arkansas, had been a
resident of Grant County for the past twelve years. She is survived by three
daughters, Mrs. Margaret Hudson of Santa Paula, California, Mrs. Leona Saunders
and Mrs. Alma Aline Allred of Glennwood. One son, Horace W. Redd of Burnet,
Texas, and fourteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Funeral
Services were held January 2, at 11 a.m. in the Curtis-Bright Chapel with Mr.
Ray Stone of the Church of Christ officiating. Interment was at the Glenwood
cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Buddy Allred, Buster Goetz, Charles
Shellhorn Jr., Condon Allred, Wayne Pierce and Grant W. Roberts.
JACKSON: Archie L. Jackson, 51, a resident of Silver City for the past three
years, died in Hillcrest Hospital March 30. He was a manager for the Union
Supply Company. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Pauline Jackson of Silver
City; two daughters, Mrs. Linda Hallam of Verona, Mrs. and Mrs. Diana Jackson of
Silver City; and a son, Larry Jackson of Silver City. He is also survived by
five brothers, three sister and his mother. Funeral services were held in the
Ft. Baptist Church in Carbon, Tex., Thursday afternoon and interment was in the
Murray Memorial Cemetery in Carbon. The Rev. Bruce McNair officiated. The
Curtis-Bright Funeral Home was in charge of arrangement.
Jackson: Arthur Jackson, a former Silver City resident, died early Sunday
morning. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Baca's Hillcrest
Funeral Chapels.
JACKSON: Charles William "Jeep" Jackson, 65, a retired Indianapolis firefighter
and former Phelps Dodge Tyrone employee, died Saturday. He was a member of the
Silver City Elks Club, Silver City Lions and Knights of Columbus. He was also
active in hospital charity work in Silver City. He is survived by his wife,
Shirley; two children, Randy Jackson of Phoenix, Ariz., and Lisa Laws of Silver
City; two brothers; and one sister. Graveside services will be held in the Fort
Bayard National Cemetery at a date to be announced, and a Mass was scheduled for
9:30 a.m. today in Las Cruces. Arrangements are by the Graham Mortuary in Las
Cruces.
JACKSON: Christopher L. Jackson, 15, died in a traffic accident June 23. Chris
was a life-long resident of Silver City where he was a member of the First
United Methodist Church, a member of the Silver City Golf Club and a student of
LaPlata Junior High where he was active in fooball, basketball and golf. He is
survived by his mother, Frankie White, his father, Bruce Jackson of Silver City,
a sister, Melissa and his maternal grandparents, Lenn and Anne Manning of Silver
City. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the first United
Methodist Church of Silver City with Reverend David L. Saucier officiating.
Burial followed in Memory Lane Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Brent
Jackson, Jim Vasquez, Scott Wallin, Glenn Lutz, Darren Phillips and John
Gallasini. Honorary pallbearers were Hunter White, Dolan Allensworth, Troy
Calloway, Eric Edmister, Danny Bowman and Dale Maxwell.
JACKSON: Doris A. Jackson passed away in Albuquerque Nov. 15. Doris is survived
by her husband, Walter, four sons, Charles, Lee, Roy of Silver City and Norman
of Texas; two daughter, Marilyn Morel of Fort Bayard, Thelma Ward of
Albuquerque, and a brother Allen McClendon of Organ, two sisters, Jane Brown,
Durango, Colo., Pearl Garner, Bayfield, Colo., father, Bent McClendon, mother,
Pearl Gedney, three half sisters, Mrs. Arthur Day, Durango, Mrs. Norma Carlson,
Albuquerque, and Mrs. Blanch Ward of Hurley, 11 grandchildren and 4
great-grandchildren. Mrs. Jackson was a member of the Bayard Baptist Church. Her
family request that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the American
Diabetes Foundation. Graveside services were held Wednesday Nov. 19 at Memory
Lane Cemetery, with the Rev. Billy Foster officiating. Pallbearers were Charles
Jackson, Lee Jackson, Roy Jackson, William Moreland, and Cris Moreland.

JACKSON: Ethel M. Jackson, 91, a longtime resident of Lordsburg, passed away
Tuesday at Sunshine Haven Nursing Home in Lordsburg. She was born Oct. 25, 1903
to Willie E. and Mary Ellen (Lee) Hough in Pontotoc, Okla. During the 1950s she
and her husband, Ebb Jackson, owned and operated Jackson's Feed Store in
Lordsburg. Mrs. Jackson was kitchen manager for Hidalgo General Hospital until
retiring in 1969. She enjoyed Fig Newtons, Milky Ways and Dr. Peppers. She is
survived by a nephew, Robert Jackson and his wife, Marguerite of Tucson, Ariz.;
and special friends, Homer and Mildred Baird of Lordsburg. She was preceded in
death by her husband, Ebb Jackson in 1971. Visitation was held from 10 a.m.
until l p.m. today in the Lordsburg Funeral Home chapel and a graveside service
and interment followed at 2:30 p.m at Mountain View Cemetery in Deming with
Pastor Tommy Powers officiating. Family members selected Lordsburg Funeral Home
to serve them.
JACKSON: Mrs. Ruth Carter Jackson, 72, beloved life-long resident of Silver
City, member of the pioneer John W. Carter family and wife of Robert (Bobby)
Jackson, passed away last Friday at the family home from a heart attack.
Following completion of her elementary education as a student in the Silver City
public schools, she attended New Mexico Normal School for one year and completed
her education at Mary Baldwin Seminary, Staunton, Virginia. Thereafter she
became a teacher in the Silver City public school system for several years. In
1917 she married Robert Jackson and to this union were born three children,
Robert Jackson, Jr., Ruth Jackson Hill and Joan Jackson Noble. She is also
survived by six grandchildren. For many years, Mrs. Jackson was a leader in
American Red Cross, member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Silver City Women's
Club and Grant County's Woman of the Year in 1964. She was also active in the
Girl Scouts, the Gray Ladies and other organizations in which she gave devoted
service, including the Chamber of Commerce. As a member of the Episcopal Church
of the Good Shepherd she served on the Altar Guild. All of her years she gave
generous and unselfish services to the community. Her mission in life was that
it was more blessed to give than to receive, and her death is a grievous loss.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Monday in the Curtis Mortuary Chapel, the
Rev. Clifton M. Henderson of the Episcopal Church conducting the rites.
Interment was in the Masonic Cemetery in the family plot where her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. John W. Carter, are buried. Serving as pallbearers were Walter Wilson,
Frank Light, James S.Ryan, Shirl L. Kauffman, LeRoy Marek and W. T. Graham.
JACOBS; Bernard C. Jacobs, 78, a resident of Hurley since 1938, died May 11 at
the Gila Regional Medical Center in Silver CIty. He was born Sept. 24, 1905, in
Effingham, Ill. the son of Emile and Agnes Worman Jacobs. He was preceded in
death by Madeline, his wife of 54 years by six weeks. Mr. Jacobs was a member of
the Hurley Community Church and was active in the Yucca Council, Boy Scouts of
America, where he received the highest adult achievement award, the Silver
Beaver Award. He was a graduate of Western State College of Gunnison, Colo.
Survivors include two sons, Don E. Jacobs of Centerville, Ohio and Gene G.
Jacobs of Silver City; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral
services were held May 14 at the Curtis-Bright Chapel with interment following
at Memory Lane Cemetery. Rev. Kenneth Schultz of the Hurley Community Church
officiated. Serving as pallbearers were Charles A. Shinn, David Strain, Howard
L. Mize, Allard C. Bartlett, Joe M. Neal and Cresencio O. Moreno. Those wishing
to do so may make contributions to the Hurley Community Church or to the Boy
Scouts of America. Arrangements by the Curtis-Bright Funeral Home.
JACOBS: Word was received the past week of the death in Los Angeles of Jay
Jacobs, prominent real estate operator, who was well known in Silver City. He is
survived by his widow, Mrs. Pauline Jacobs, the former Pauline Smith, a member
of the early day Smith family of ranchers in Grant County. Funeral services and
burial took place in Los Angeles.
JACOBS; Madeline Audrey (D.) Jacobs, 80, died Saturday at the Gila Regional

daughter of George and Selma Freek Degitz. She was a member of the Hurley
Community Church, Yucca Toastmasters and the league of Women Voters. Survivors
include her husband, Bernard C. Jacobs of Hurley; two sons, Don E. Jacobs of
Centerville, Oh. and Gene G. Jacobs of Silver City; one sister, Dorothy McDermott
of Gunnison, Colo.; one brother, Harold Degitz of Canfield, Oh; four
grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Services were held March 27 at the
Curtis-Bright Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Schultz officiating. Interment followed
at Memory Lane Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were David Strain, Leon Rawlins,
Allard Bartlett, Hall Gigger, Walter P. Laws and Charles A. Shinn.Contributions

JACOBS: Funeral services for William Edgar Jacobs, 57, who died in his home on
Black street here Sunday morning were held Tuesday morning at 10 A.M. from the
Cox mortuary chapel with Dale Sexton of the Church of Crist officiating at the
services. Mr. Jacobs had l9ived in Silver city for nine years and had been ill
for a long time. Internment was made in the city cemetery and pallbearers were
Henery Longbottom, Earl West, John Foster, Willard Clapp, Chester Barentine, and
Edward Burke. Honorary pallbearers were W.E. Little, James Cooper, John Osborn,
J.W. McCain, B.L. Clark, and Glenn Young. Mr. Jacobs is survived by his wife and
two sons, Carrol and E. W. of Silver city; Four brothers, Marshall and Brandy of
Lawn Texas, Marvin of Kerman Calif, and Emmett of Clearwater Calif; his mother
Mrs. Ada Jacobs, also of Lawn Texas; three sisters Juanita Jacobs, of Lawn
Texas, Mrs. E.W. Carter of Pyote Tx, and Mrs. Ora Cade of Dallas.
JACQUES: The Enterprise has received word of the death of Mrs. Susan Adair
Jacques in Ocean Side Calif on Sept. 30. Mrs. Jacques was the daughter of an old
pioneer of this area, William Adair, who was quite prominent in the territory
government of New Mexico. The Adairs lived in Pinos altos in the 70's but moved
there in 1903. Mrs. Jaques was postmaster at Pinos altos for a number of years
and her last visit to this area was 16 years ago when they visited friends in
Santa Rita and Silver City. She is survived by a brother W. R. Adair, of El Pso,
and several other brothers and sisters.
JACQUEZ: Death May 8, in Juarez, Mexico, claimed Antonio B. Jacquez, father of a
well-known Silver City family. He was 70 years old. Surviving are his wife,
Felecita Jacquez; three Sons, Santiago Jacquez and George Jacquez, both of
Silver City, and Francisco Jacquez, Lawndale, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Selso
Clark, Las Cruces and Mrs. Antonia Jacquez, Juarez, Mexico; 33 grandchildren and
nine great-grandchildren. Rosary services were held at 7:30 Sunday evening at
the Cox Mortuary chapel, followed by mass at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Vincent de
Paul Catholic Church, the Rev. R. A. Vonder Haar officiating Interment was In
the Catholic cemetery.
JACQUEZ: George D. Jacquez, 49,died last Sunday in Las Cruces following a long
illness; he was a life-long resident of Silver City. Rosary services were held

JACQUEZ: Santiago D. Jacquez, 55, of Silver City, a life long Grant County
resident, died Monday afternoon at Hillcrest General Hospital. Survivors are his
widow, Mrs. Carolina Jacquez and 15 children, seven sons, Tony, Rudy, Armando
and Videl Jacquez of Silver City, Bobby, Roland and Jimmy Jacquez of San
Fernando, Calif.; eight daughters, Mrs. Mary Ann Ortlz, Mrs. Lupe Aragon, Miss
Alice Jacquez and Miss Delia Jacquez of Silver City, Mrs. Rachel Montes of
Deming, Mrs. Molly Altamirano of Anaheim, Calif.; Mrs. Rita Provencio and Mrs.
Priscilla Gomez of San Fernando; his mother, Mrs. Feilcita Jacquez of Silver
City; a brother, Frank Jacquez of San Fernando; two sisters, Mrs. Celso Clark of
Las Cruces and Mrs Antonio Perez of Silver City; and 37 grandchildren.
JACQUEZ: Alejo R. Jacquez, 81, died Thursday morning at Hillcrest General
Hospital. He was a native of Mexico and had lived in Central for the past 80
years. Survivors include his wife, Francisca of Central; one son, Julian of
Central; and one daughter, Mrs. Leonia Quintana of Andersville, Nev. Rosary
services were said in the Santa Clara Catholic Church in Central immediately
following the Sunday 5:50 p.m. Mass. The funeral mass was held Monday at 10 a.m.
Interment followed with the Rev. Fr. Felix Sheridan officiating in the Central
Cemetery.
JACQUEZ: Antonio O. "Tony" Jacquez, 60, a lifetime resident of Silver City, died
Tuesday night at Gila Regional Medical Center. He was born July 29, 1930, in
Silver City. He was a parishioner of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, a
member of Knights of Columbus Council No. 3388, a member of the Silver City
Moose Lodge, and a past member and coach in the Silver City Little League. Mr.
Jacquez prior to his illness was general foreman for the Grant County Road
Department for many years. Calling hours were from 2-5 p.m. today in Baca's
Hillcrest Funeral Chapels. Rosary services are to be held at 7:30 tonight in St.
Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, where Mass of the Christian burial will be
celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Rod Nichols officiating. Concluding
services will follow in the Silver City Catholic Cemetery. Survivors include his
wife, Barbara L. Jacquez of Silver City; three sons, Tony Jacquez Jr. and his
wife, Frances, and Ralph and Ronald Jacquez, all of Silver City; two daughters,
Maria Elena Lopez and her husband, Luis, of Silver City and Norma Jean Gomez and

JACQUEZ; Edward "Eddie" Jacquez, 24, died May 27 in Silver City. He was the son
of Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Jacquez Jr. He was a communicant of the Catholic Church.
He is survived by his parents; three sons and numerous aunts, uncles and
cousins. Rosary recitation was held May 30 at the Wheeler Funeral Home Chapel.

JACQUEZ: Death Monday at her home in Bayard claimed Mrs. Luz Jacquez, 92, one
Grant County's oldest residents. She had lived in Bayard 46 years. Survivors are
a daughter, Mrs. Juan Candelaria, two grandsons, three granddaughters and two
sisters, Mrs. Trinidad Castro and Mrs. Petra Morena. Rosary services were held
Wednesday evening at the Curtis Mortuary Chapel. Mass was said at 9 a.m.
Thursday at Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Bayard. Burial was in the Silver
City Catholic Cemetery.
JAHNKE: Margot M. Jahnke, 62, a resident of Silver City, entered into rest
Thursday at Gila Regional Medical Center. She was born Dec. 27, 1931, in Los
Angeles to the late Robert S. and Bonnie B.McMahle. She was the office
administrator of the Gila Wilderness Tourist Bureau and will be remembered as a
loving and caring person. Survivors include three daughters, Glenn Jahnke of
Silver City, Danielle DeRome of San Luis Obispo, Calif., and Jessica Jahnke of
Seattle; and two grandchildren, Madeleine DeRome and Corey Rayan Jahnke. She is
also survived by Robert Jahnke, her former husband. No services are scheduled.

JAMES: One of thethree surviving charter members of the New Mexico Cattle
Growers assn. died In an El Paso hospital yesterday. He was Edward James,
80-year o1d cattleman and former Indian fighter. He owned farming and ranching
property at Cloride, in southern New Mexico. James Came to the southwest in a
covered wagon and was in on the 1907 slaying of the Apache Kid, a notorious
desperado, in San Juan canyon northwest Of Truth or Consequences. Three of
James' best friends were killed by Indians in 1886. He liked to tell how, a
short time later, he wandered into the camp of Frank James, one of the famous
James boys. The outlaw eyed his ancient revolver, asked his name and thee
remarked: "Son, that's a damn good name but a mighty poor gun you're wearin." In
later years James was a trustee for the republic property of the US.Treasury
Mines co., near Chloride. He is survived by a son Edward James Jr. of Los Alamos
and two sisters, Mrs. Edith J. Calhoun and Miss Minnie James, both of Chloride.
JAMES: George Washington James, 66, a World War I veteran, died Jan. 18 at Fort
Bayard hospital Funeral services were held in the Fort Bayard chapel, with
burial in the Fort Bayard cemetery with military, honors.
Joseph T James, 87, of Pinos Altos died Saturday morning in Hillcrest General
Hospital. He came to this area 43 years ago and was a retired miner. He owned
many mining claims in thePinos Altos area. He is survived by his wife, Flora;
one sister, Mts. Laura Beemish of Rochester, N. Y., and by six nephews. Funeral
services were held at 4 p.m. Monday in the Cox Mortuary chapel with the Rev.
Wayne Douglas of the First Methodist Church of Silver City officiating.
Graveside services were in charge of the Silver City Lodge No. 8, AF&AM.
JAMES: 0. L. James, father of Mrs. W. C. May, of Silver City, died suddenly of a
heart attack Friday at his home in Rancagua, Chile, S. A. Mr. and Mrs. May and
children had left early Saturday morning to take his mother, Mrs. Agnes May, to
El Paso to board a plane for her home in Colorado, and did not return to Silver
City until late Sunday afternoon so did not learn of his death until then. Mr.
James was born in Monclava, Mexico, and received his college education at Texas
A&M College, Bryan, Tex. He went to Chile in 1916 and has been there since with
the exception of a few years spent in the United States. He was associated with
UB Division the Kennecott Copper Corp. Besides Mrs. May, he is survived by his
wife, one son and two daughters. Funeral services were held in Rancagua on
Sunday afternoon.
JAMES: Ruth Francis James, 78, of Silver City died Monday evening in Hacienda de
Salud. She was born Dec. 14, 1911, in Mena, Ark., and had resided in Silver City
since 1975. She was a retired eclectic motor winder. Cremation was by Mimbres
Crematorium and no services are planned. She is survived by her brother, Albert

JAMES: Fred A. James Jr, 72, of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away Friday, Dec.
1923. He was born Dec. 24, in Center, Colo. Mr James was a resident of
Albuquerque for 20 years before moving to Corpus Cristi in 1986. He was a
veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army He wasa former assistant
forest ranger. He was a member of Moose Lodge 734 in Corpus Christi, TX six
years and of Elks Lodge 408 of Las Vegas, N.M. for 27 years. Survivors include
two sons, Clark G.James of Corpus Christi and Fred A. James III of Albuquerque,
a daughter, Colleen Reed of Farmington, two brothers Merrill James of Bayfield
Colo., and Raymond James of Barstow Calif., nine grandchildren and four
great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 11 am Wednesday in Alma
cemetery, in Alma.
JAMESON: Ross Demonic Jameson, 25, was born Sept. 26, 1977, in Silver City. He
was taken from his family and entered eternal peace Friday Jan. 10. He was
preceded in death by his father, George W. Ross" Jameson Jr. He is survived by
his mother Betty Jane "Go Go" Jameson; his sisters, Barbara "Bobbi" Jameson and
her husband, Charlie, and Shoo Shoo Jameson; his brothers, Franklin "Rocky"
Lock. Ty Jameson and Shane Jameson; his biological mother, Elonda Rose "Loni"
Jameson-Powell; his nephews, whom he affectionately referred to as his "boys",
Regan Aguirre Jr. and Shawn Aguirre; his great- grandmother, Velma Jameson: and
aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family members too numerous to mention, but
who were always on his thoughts. He had many friends with L whom he shared
special times. The friends who held a special place in his heart arc John Ruiz.

JAMESON: George Jameson, 71, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 8, in Hillcrest General
Hospital. Mr. Jameson was born in Massey, Oklahoma and had lived in Grant County
since 1949, where he was employed as a repair leadman for Kennecott Copper
Corporation before his retirement. Mr. Jameson is survived by his wife, Naomi
Jameson, whom he married on Dec. 1, 1929 in Massey, Oklahoma. He is also
survived by three daughters, Roma Shatto of Fresno, California, Angelee
Bratcher, of Albuquerque, Ronda Allison of Clovis, three sons George Jameson,
Jr., of Silver City, Charles W.Jameson of Central, William Jameson of Arenas
Valley, two sisters, Jessie Newsom of McAlester, Oklahoma, Edna Amos of Crowder,
Oklahoma, a brother, Clark Jameson of Crowder, Oklahoma, thirteen grandchildren
and six great grandchildren. Graveside funeral sevices will be held Friday at 2
p.m. at Memory Lane Cemetery with Reverend Morrow officiating. Serving as
pallbearers are Charlie Slout, Jack Burk, Marion Crumbley, Charles Thurber, Jack

JAMESON: Nola "Noggie" Jameson, 54, a resident of Central, passed away Thursday
morning. She is survived by her husband, Charles; two sons, Jerry Jameson and

of Awgsberg, Germany; two sisters, Carolyn Pennington and her husband, Bill, of

JAMESON: George W. (Ross) Jameson Jr. died Monday in Albuquerque following a
brief illness. Mr. Jameson was born in 1931 in San Palita, Texas. He served in
the Korean War from November 1951 through October 1953, and during that time he
earned the Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service
Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal and the Purple Heart. He served in the
National Guard for 20 years. He was an employee of Chino Mines from 1954 to 1982
where he worked as a boilermaker foreman. During his illness he courageously
participated in the research of cancer at the Veterans Administration hospital
in Albuquerque. He is survived by his wife, Betty Jane Jameson of Silver City;
three sons, Rock Lock of Central and Tyre Jameson and Ross Jameson, both of
Silver City; three daughters, Barbara Gage and her husband, John Gage of
Morenci, Ariz., Elonda Powell and her husband, Tony Powell of Dallas, Texas and
Rolene Aguirre and her husband, Regan Aguirre of Silver City; six grandchildren,
Stacy and Shelli Ross, Shane Gunn, Regan and Brawn Aguirre and Robert Gage; his
mother, Velma Mozell Valley; three sister, Roma Shatto of Fresno, Calif Angie

JANES: Mrs. Flora Janes, 88, a pioneer of Pinos Altos, where she had lived for
45 years, died Tuesday in Hillcrest General Hospital. Mrs. Janes was the widow
of Joseph T. Janes, manager for many years 'of the Homestead Mining Co. at Pinos
Altos, a gold and silver property. He died in 1953. During her long residence In
Grant County, Mrs. Janes was active in Silver City Chapter No. 3, Order of
Eastern Star, and other organizations. Surviving is a nephew, Enos Janes of
Rochester, N. Y. who was expected to arrive in Silver City today to attend the
funeral to be held at 3 p.m Friday at the Cox Mortuary Chapel with Eastern Star
ritualistic rites. The Rev. Charles Walker of the First Methodist church will
conduct commital services at the grave in Masonic cemetery.
JANES: June E. Janes, 61, a resident of Albuquerque since 1969, and a former
resident of the Silver City area, died Saturday. She is survived by her husband,
Fred A. Janes of Albuquerque; sons, Clark Gordon Janes and his wife, Judy, of
Corpus Christi, Texas and Fred Janes and his wife, Becky, of Albuquerque; a
daughter, Colleen Reed and her husband, Howard, of Bloomfield; grand daughters,
Wendy Lopez and her husband, Adam, of Grants, Stacy, Michelle, Ginger and Joy
Anderson, all of Las Cruces, and Tanya Janes of Albuquerque; grandsons, Cody and
Clay Reed of Bloomfield, and Fred Janes IV of Albuquerque; three
great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert W. Henderson and his wife, Vivian, of
Bonita, Calif.; and her stepmother, Ida Henderson of Chula Vista, Calif. She was
preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Anderson, and by her parents. Services

JAQUEZ: Frank D. Jaquez, 61, died at Presbyterian Hospital in Hollywood, Calif.,
last Tuesday morning. Mr. Jaquez was a native of Silver City, and had lived in
Lawndale, Calif the past 20 years. He was a retired electro platter. Surviving
Mr. Jaquez are his wife, Jesusieta; three sons, Frank, Ruben and Richard all of
Lawndale, and Mrs. Juanita Ratana of Las Cruces; and 10 grandchildren. Survivors
also include two sisters, Mrs. Dolores Clark of Las Cruces and Mrs. Antonia
Perez of Lawndale. Rosary was read at the Curtis-Bright Funeral Chapel Friday at
7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass was recited at the St. Francis Newman Center Saturday at
9:30 a.m. with interment following in the Catholic Cemetery. The Rev. Fr. Philip
Van Engelen officiated.
JARAMILLO Services for Mary A. Jaramillo, 61, of Deming will be at 11 a.m.
Friday in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses under direction of Baca's
Funeral Chapels. Jaramillo died Saturday at University Medical Center in
Albuquerque. She was a homemaker and a lifelong Deming resident. Survivors
include her sons, Gilbert Mendoza of Missouri and Tom Mendoza, David Mendoza and
Bobby Jaramillo, all of Deming; daughters, Julie Pruitt of Deming and Conchita

JARAMILLO: Mrs. Vivianita B. Jaramillo, 75, resident of Central, died last
Wednesday at Rest Haven rest home in Silver City. Survivors of the deceased are

Hurley and Mrs. Pat Chavez of Las Cruces: 13 grandchildren; three sisters and

JARAMILLO; Antonio G. Jaramillo, 78, of Silver City, died May 15 at the Gila
Regional Medical Center. Mr. Jaramillo was born in Reserve, the son of Benino

Church. Survivors include his wife, Jessie M. Jaramillo of Silver City; three
daughters, Emma Waite of Albuquerque, Esther Duran and Lori J. Leon of Silver
City; two sons, Mike Jaramillo of Albuquerque and Maurice Jaramillo of
Bremerton, Wash. Another son, Sam, preceded Mr. Jaramillo in death in Dec. 1975.
Other survivors include a sister, Mary Jaramillo of Albuquerque; two brothers,
Manuel Jaramillo of Albuquerque and Frank Jaramillo of Reserve; 15 grandchildren
and 11great -grandchildren. Mr. Jaramillo lies in state at the Curtis-Bright
Chapel May 17 with the Rosary Recitation following that same evening. Mass of
the Resurrection was celebrated May 18 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church,
with interment following at Memory Lane Cemetery. Msgr. A. James Milano

JARAMILLO: Diane Michelle Jaramillo, 8, a resident of Hurley, died Saturday in
Gila Regional Medical Center. Michelle was a communicant of the Hurley Infant
Jesus Catholic Church. She was born Oct. 18, 1979, in Albuquerque, and she was a
second-grader at Hurley Elementary School. She enjoyed playing T-ball with the
Dukes baseball team and attending catechism classes. Michelle is survived by her
parents Michael A. Jaramillo and Victoria Jaramillo of Hurley; her brother,
Gabriel Jaramillo, and her sister, Lorraine Jaramillo of Hurley; five aunts,

JARAMILLO: Feliciana M. Jaramillo, 73, a lifelong resident of Silver City,
passed away Tuesday at St. Joseph's Medical, Hospital in Albuquerque. She was
born to Ignacio and Josefa Maldonado on June 3, 1923, in Truth or Consequences.
She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, a volunteer with the
Retired Senior Volunteer Program, active in the Senior Citizens Center in Silver
City, and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Women's Auxiliary. Surviving
relatives include tour Sons, Jose Jaramillo and his wife, Christine, of Las
Vegas, Nev., Robert Jaramillo, and his wife, Norma, of Tyrone, Barey Jaramillo
and ~is wife, Dolores, of Mesa, Ariz., and' Reynaldo Jaramillo and his wife,

Aug. 14, at the Gila Regional Medical Center. She was preceded in death by a

Perfecto Jaramillo of Hurley; three sons, David Jaramillo and his wife, Susie,
Ruben Jaramillo and his wife, Mary, and Jimmy Jaramillo, all of Hurley; two

JARAMILLO: Maria Baca Jaramillo, 78, of Reserve died Nov. 27 in Hillcrest
General Hospital. She was born in Reserve on Nov. 10, 1904 and was the daughter
of Ramon and Margarita Moya Baca. Mrs. Jaramillo was a member of San Francisco
Catholic Church in Reserve. She is survived by her husband, Frank G. Jaramillo
of Reserve; two daughters, Helen Livingston of Reserve and Mary Howard of
Dallas; two sons, Daniel and Tony Jaramillo, both of Reserve; four sisters,
Nicka Armijo of Safford, Ariz., Amelia Trujillo, also of Safford, Piala Aragon
of Springerville, Ariz. and Della Calbert of Quemado; two brothers, Henry and
Martin Baca, both of Reserve; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Rosary
recitation was held Nov. 29 and the Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated Nov.
30. Both services were held at the San Francisco Catholic Church in Reserve.
Burial was held at the Middle Frisco Cemetery in Reserve. Serving, as

JARAMILLO: Perfecto Jaramillo, 93, passed away Wednesday morning at his home in
Hurley. Mr. Jaramillo was born Feb. 14, 1899, to Perfecto and Juanita Jaramillo
in Rodey, N.M. He worked as a crane operator for Chino Mines, retiring after 28
years of service. He was a member of the Infant Jesus Catholic Church in Hurley.
On Feb. 18, 1924, he married Margarita Sedillo in Rincon. Mr. Jaramillo is
survived by three sons, David Jaramillo, Ruben Jaramillo and his wife, Mary
Helen, and Jimmy Jaramillo, all of Hurley; two daughters, Jenny Misquiz and her
husband, Claude, of Long Beach, Calif., and Hope Mathison of Sun Valley, Calif.;
a sister, Juanita Fajardo of Las Cruces; 12 grandchildren; 13
great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by
his wife, Margarita, in August 1990, and by a son, Perfecto, on Feb. 14, 1953.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Infant Jesus Catholic Church in
Hurley. The vigil service will be held Sunday at 7 p.m. Mass of the Christian
burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at Infant Jesus Catholic Church with

JARAMILLO: Susie Jaramillo, 62, a resident of Hurley, passed away Friday at her
home. Mrs. Jaramillo was born to Cecilio and Amelia Saenz on Aug. 12, 1930, in
Santa Rita. She worked as a cook at Fort Bayard and retired after 25 years of
service. She was a member of Infant Jesus Catholic Church in Hurley and a home
extension club. She was a volunteer for senior citizens, and the Santa Rita Born
in Space group. On June 24, 1950, she married David Jaramillo Sr. in Santa Rita.
Mrs. Jaramillo is survived by her husband, David, of the home; a son and his
wife, David Jaramillo, Jr. and Kathy Jaramillo of Hurley; three daughters, Carol
Arellano and her husband, Ben, and Molly Gonzales and her husband, Tony, all of
Silver City, and Elva Guerrero of Hurley; her mother, Amelia Saenz of Hurley;
two brothers and their wives, Sam and Betty Saenz of Central, and John and
Clorinda Saenz of Bayard; a sister, Clara Felix of Hurley; and seven
grandchildren. Rosary will be recited Tuesday at 7 p.m. and Mass of the
Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Infant Jesus

JARBOE: Earl A. Jarboe, 75, a resident of Silver City for 37 years, died Feb. 11
in an Albuquerque hospital. He is survived by his wife, Barbara H. Jarboe of
Silver City; two daughters, Annis Elizabeth Hollimon and her husband, Lawrence
Walton, and Frances Lucille Moreno; nine grandchildren; and six
great-grandchildren. He is retired from the U.S. Forest Service. Graveside
services were held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in
Albuquerque with Pastor Larry Wright officiating. Fitzgerald and Son Funeral
Directors of Albuquerque were in charge of arrangements.
JARAMILLO: Horacio Garcia Jaramillo, 84, long-time resident of Fierro and a
retired miner, employed for many years by the' U. S. Mining, Smelting, &
Refining Co., died last Saturday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Refugio Pens.
Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Pena, Mrs. Joe Arciero, and Mrs. Luis
Gonzales, all of Fierro; 23 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Rosary was
held Tuesday evening at the Cox Mortuary chapel, followed by mass at 10 a. m.
Wednesday in St Anthony Catholic Church in Fierro. Burial took place in the
cemetery there.
JARAMILLO: Antonio G. "Tony" Jaramillo, 65, a lifelong resident of Silver City,
passed away Sunday, June 7, at Gila Regional Medical Center. For 13 years, he
courageously struggled with multiple myeloma cancer and respiratory tract
disease. He maintained a strong will, never lost hope and suffered without
complaint. Mr. Jaramillo embodied strength, .and epitomized if there is a will,
there is a way." Through his bravery in dealing with terminal illness, he taught
his children and grandchildren how to live with dignity and integrity in the
face of adversity. He was a diligent supporter of family and friends, ever ready
to ~lend a helping hand. He went ~'out of his way to help those in need. He will
be greatly missed by his family. He served his country three years during the
Korean War. He retired from Kennecott Copper Corp.'s Chino Mines ~after 35 years
of service. Mr. Jaramillo was a talented' furniture designer, woodworker and
carpenter. He was an outdoors enthusiast, who especially enjoyed walking in the
woods, fishing and hunting. Visitation will be from 4-7 Wednesday afternoon with
the prayer vigil beginning at 7:30 at Baca's Funeral Chapels. Father Paulus Kao
will recite the holy rosary. The funeral liturgy will be celebrated Thursday at

Crest Country Club for about four years. She was known as "La Charra de Santa

grandchildren, Miguel, Luis and Ralph Torres of Silver City, and Angelica

JARRELL: Ida Pennington Jarrell, 80 died Saturday morning in her home in Cliff
following a short illness. She was born June 21, 1908, in East Bernstadt, Ky.,
and married Henry M. Pennington on May 24, 1923. She was a resident of Cliff for
the past 17 years and was a member of the Gila Valley Baptist Church. Services
will be held at Greenhill Baptist Church, Jackson County, Ky., on Sunday, Nov.
13 at 2 p.m. with her grandson, the Rev. Rex Childress of Seymour, Mo.,
officiating. Interment will follow in the Pennington Family Cemetery. Local
memorial services will be held Sunday, Nov. 20 at 2 p.m. in the Gila Valley
Baptist Church in Gila. Survivors are one son, C. Ray Pennington and his wife,

JARROTT: Maria Jesus Jarrott, 63, of Lordsburg passed away Friday at Gila
Regional Medical Center. The rosary was held Monday 1 evening at St. Josepli
Catholic Church with Father Tony dark officiating. The funeral Mass was to be
celebrated ai 9 a.m. today, also at the church. Interment will be in Shakespeare
Cemetery. Mrs. Jarrott was. Born Feb. 5, 1936,in Lordsburg, the daughter of
Rosalio Lopez and Guadalupe Barboza Lopez. She married John C. Jarrott Jr. She
is survived by her husband; three children, John R. Jarrott and his wife,
Gloria, Donna M. Jarrott, and John C. Jarrott III, all of Lordsburg;
grandchildren, John R. Jarrott Jr., and Darien R. and Demitria J. Jarrott, all
of Lordsburg; a brother Guillcimo B. Lopez, and a sister, Isabel B. Lopez both
of Garden Grove, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Janott was
preccded in death by her parents; four sisters. Ameli Tarango, Flora Lara,
Librada "Libby" Baldwin and Petn Fong; and two brothers. Albert B. Lopez Sr. and
Inez B. Lopez. Mrs. Jarrott taught in the Lordsburg public schools for 21 years.

morning at 9:00 for Silvester T Juarequi, 44, who died Tuesday after an illhess
of a year. Rosary services were held at the Hurley church last evening at 6

JARVIS: Elenor (Gusoskey) Jarvis, 72, a former Grant County resident, died
Monday, June 28, in Tucson, Ariz., following an extended illness. She is
survived by her husband, Vince, of Tucson; brother, Bob Amos of Santa Fe; sis-
ter, Ginny Siry of Kentucky; daughter, Gwen, and Mike Dinwiddie of Kearny,
Ariz.; son, Benton and Karen Gu- soskey of Michigan; step-daughter, Kathy French
of Idaho; stepson, Darril Jarvis of California; seven grand children; and three
great-grandchildren.
JARVIS; Stella Montoya Jarvis, 80, resident of San Lorenzo died at the Gila
Medical Center in Silver City. She was born May 24, 1904 in Sherman and had
lived in San Lorenzo the last eleven years coming from Huntington Park, Ca.
Rosary services were held at the San Lorenzo Catholic Church. Funeral Mass
followed there. Interment followed at the Sherman Cemetery. Fr. Richard Hinojos
officiated. She is survived by Lloyd and Dora Merino and family with whom she
lived and a niece and nephews. Pallbearers were Hector Madrid, Hector Madrid Jr,
John Lloyd Merino, Ruben Montoya, Luis Montoya Jr, and Art Merino. Baca's

JASPER: Lee Jasper died at Fort Bayard Medical Center after a long illness. Mr.
Jasper was born at Wyandotle Nation, Okla. on May 17, 1888 and was a longtime
resident of Fort Sumner before moving to Silver City in 1976. He is survived by
a daughter and son-in-law, Lois and Gene Lane of Silver City; three grandsons
and one granddaughter. Services were held at the First Methodist Church of Fort

in Hillcrest Hospital. He was well known Th the community. Surviving is his

Church, Burial was in the Catholic cemetery.
Jaurequi: Avelina Jaurequi, 92, died Sunday in Silver City. Mrs. Jaurequi was
born Nov. 20, 1893 in Rancho Gabriel Lopez, Jalisco, Mexico. She was a
communicant of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, and a member of the Altar
Society, Guadalupanas and Apostolado. She was a resident of Grant County for 64
years and was owner of Pic N Pak Groceries, formerly south-side grocery of
Silver City. Mrs. Jaurequi is survived by four sons, Merejildo Jaurequi, Cruz
Jaurequi, and Ray Jaurequi, all of Norwalk, Calif., and Greg Jaurequi of Silver
City; two daughters, Alice Tais of Silver City and Modesta Padilla of Norwalk,
Calif.; 30 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson.
Rosary recitation was held Thursday and Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated
Friday. Both services were heldat St. Vincent's in Silver City with Monsignor A.

eternal Thursday. He was born March 12, 1933, in Hurley. He was a meber of St.

New Mexico Right to Life. He was a graduate of Western New Mexico University and
received a master's degree in business administration from Denver University.
Mr. Jaurequi was a research analyst for the Cooperative Ownership Development

JAUREQUI: Mrs. Gertude J. Jaurequi, 83 died at her home in Hurley, Saturday. She
had lived in Grant County for 37 years. Rosary services were held Monday evening

by the Rev. Fr. Ramon Estivill. Burial was in the Hurley cemtery. Surving are
two sons, Rafel and Vidal and a daughter, Mrs. Salomona Marin, all of Hurley and

JAUREQUI: Mrs. Cresencia R. Jaurequi, 84, died December 17 at her residence in
Bayard. She was a native of Mexico and had lived in Bayard for 40 years. She was
a member of the Sacred Heart League and the League of St. Joseph. Survivors
include a son, Santiago of Bayard; two daughters, Mrs. Dolores Godoy and Miss
Magdalena Rodriguez, both of Bayard; one sister, Mrs. Maria Sandoval of

JEFFERS: Mrs. Emma Jeffers, 82, passed away Feb. 21 at the home of her daughter,
Mrs. Pearl Longwell, in Silver City. Other survivors are two grandsons and two
great grandsons; two brothers, G. E. Robertson and W. F. Robertson, Alamogordo.
Funeral services were held at the Curtis Mortuary chapel, conducted by the Rev.A.
B. Cavanaugh, of the First Methodist Church. Burial was in the Silver City
cemetery.
Jemison: Sheryl Jemison, 23, former Grant County resident, passed away Saturday,
Jan. 14, in an Albuquerque hospital following a long illness. She is survived by
a 2-year-old daughter, Stephanie; her parents, Ben and Nancy Jemison; one
brother, Ben Jemison Jr.; a sister Paula Jemison; and her grandmother, Ella
Young, all of Albuquerque. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will
be held at 10 a.m. in the Heights First Church of Nazarene in Albuquerque on

JENKINS: William F. Jenkins, 61, passed away Thursday, July 21, at his residence
in Tyrone, Mr. Jenkins was a native of Spokane, Wash., and had resided in Grant
County for the past ten years. He was a veteran of World War H, and was employed
by Phelps Dodge Corporation at the time ofdeath. Mr. Jenkins is survived by his
wife, Gwendolyn Jenkins of Tyrone a daughter, Charlotte Ellen Grimes of Kingman,
Ariz, two sons William Jenkins, Jr., of Prescott, Ariz., Kevin Jenkins of
Tyrone, one grandson and a brother, Ernest Jenkins of Clifton, Ariz. Funeral
services were held Monday, July 25, at the Curtis-Bright Funeral Chapel with Mr.
Rex Stailey and Mr. Doug Bair officiating. Interment, followed in Ft. Bayard
National Cemetery with the Allinghan-Golding Post No. 18 of the American Legion
conducting graveside services. Serving as pallbearers were Jack Nowlin, D.D.
(Curly) Hickey, Roy Plumley, Max McCornmis, Tom Gutierrez and Burns (Red)
Fortenberry.
JENKS: Mrs. Blanche Jenks, 84, a former long-time resident of Silver City, died
last Thuraday in a hospital near her home at West Covina, calif. Mrs. Jenka was
the Widow of the late S. B Jenks, operator of a, garage In Silver City for many
years. She had been under treatment for injuries suffered in a fall at her home.
Survivors Include her son Richard Jenks, of the Canal Zone; her daughter, Miss
Jenks of West Covina; a brother Fiska Harsh Harsh of Silver city; two sisters,
Mrs Gladys Steward of Sliver City, Mrs Frances Anderson of West Covina one
ganddaughter and one great grandson. Mr and Mrs Harsh and Mrs steward made the
trip to CA to attend the funeral.
JENKS: Pamela Potter Jenks, 51, formerly of Santa Barbara, Calif., died Friday
at her home in Pinos Altos following a long illness. Mrs. Jenks is the daughter
of the late Edwin S. Potter of Santa Barbara and the stepdaughter of the Rev.
Charles Halsey Clark and his wife, Priscilla Hannah Clark of Concord, N.H. She
is survived by her husband, James Lyon Jenks of Pinos Altos; her son, John
Sperry Reynolds and his wife, Deanna and her son, Erik Butler Reynolds and is
wife, Rosio; two granddaughters, Ryann Christine and Grace Robin; and a
stepdaughter, Jaime Katherine Jenks. She is also survived by her sisters, the
Rev. Martha Clark Boothby, Mary Clark Price and Ann Halsey Clark; her brother,
Nathaniel C. Clark; and several nieces and nephews. At the family's request,
cremation has taken place with Mimbres Crematorium and a memorial will be held
at a later date in Santa Barbara. No local services are scheduled. Entrusted to
the care of Baca's Funeral Chapels and Mimbres Crematorium.
JENNESS: Mrs. Alice Ruth Jenness, 69, died Saturday at the Veterans
Administration Hospital at Fort Bayard. She had been ill for several months.
Survivng are her husband, Joseph N. Jenness; three sisters, Mrs. C. R. Miller,
Huntington Woods, Mich.; Mrs. Helena Proken, Detroitand Mrs. Carolyn Holmes,
Ensenda, Calif., and a brother, O. C. Lawrence, Benton Harbor, Mich. Cox
Mortuary was in charge of funeral arraingments. The body was sent to Albuquerque
for cremation.
JENNESS: Joe N. Jenness, 81, died Saturday at a Las Cruces rest home. He had
been a resident of Silver City 20 years. He was a member of the Baptist Church,
the Rosary Club and an active worker with the Boy Scouts. He is survived by his
wife, Marion of Silver City. Memorial services will be held today (Thursday) at
4p.m. in the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. They will be conducted by
the Rev. Donald Brent of the Baptist Church and the Rev. Donald Brent of the
Baptist Church and the Rev. C.M. Henderson, pastor of the Episcopal Church. The
family requests that memorial donations be made to the donor's favorite charity.
JENNESS: Marion L. Jenness died Oct. 4 in Silver City. She was born in
Riverside, Ill., on Oct. 10, 1895, one of six children, all of who preceded her
in death. She moved to Mogollon from Toledo, Ohio, in 1928 with her husband,
H.R. Heyne, and two children, Janet and Richard. She lived there until 1950 when
she moved to Silver City, where she resided until her death. Her son, who was a
fighter pilot in World War II, was lost over Germany in 1944. Her husband died
in 1948. She was married years later to Joe N. Jenness, who preceded her in
death. She is survived by a daughter, Janet Sherman of Deming; a grandson, Jeff
Ray of Bayard; a granddaughter, Judy Crow of Merced, Calif.; and a
great-grandson, Christopher Russell, also of Merced. Memorial services will be
held in the Valley Community Church in Arenas Valley at 3 p.m. Friday. The
family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to
one's chosen charity.
JENNINGS: Elizabeth Jennings 100 died Saturday in Silver city. She was born in
Pierce county Wisc. And had been a resident of Grant County for 11 years. She is
survived by one sister, Florence and her husband, George Ewan of Silver City;
one brother John R Jennings ---- William Buchholz of Hudson Wis; by two sisters,
Rose McCune and Teresa Jennings; and by three brothers, Con, Charles and Andrew.
Rosary recitation will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Curtis-Bright chapel and
Mass of the resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Vincent
de Paul Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Memory Lane
Cemetery.Serving, as pallbearers will be Charles Holman, Linn Detweiler, Ambrose
Gursch, Frank Anderson, Kenneth Fischer and Sam Steppe. Funeral arrangements are
by the Curtis- Bright Funeral Chapels.
JENNINGS: R. B. Jennings, former resident and operator of Jennings Auto Court,
succumbed late Tuesday according to word received by Hubert 0. Robertson, local
attorney. He is survived by his wife, Lottie. Funeral arrangements are pending
with the La Crosse Funeral Hôme in El Paso.
JENNINGS: William A. Jennings, a former resident of Grant County where he was
born, died the past week in Phoenix, where he had resided for more than 40
years. For many years he had lived on a farm and with his son specialized in the
raising of fancy pigeons, which had won numerous national prizes. He is survived
by his wife, Mrs Claribel Fleming Jennings; a son, William, Jr., of Phoenix, and
three sisters.
JENNINGS: Funeral services were held here Sunday for Bryon Jennings, 8-year-old
son of Mr. and Mrs. Neal Jennings of Stockton Calif. who died last Wednesday
evening in San Francisco. Byron, grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Dannelley of
Hurley, has been ill for 18 months. Burial was in the Masonic cemetery under the
direction of the Cox mortuary, with the Rev. H.E. Johnson officiating.
Pallbearers were J.C. Crowder, A.D. Ford, J.B. Mosely, and F. E. Phillips.
JENNINGS: Majorie Jennings, 79, a resident of the area entered into rest Sunday

JENNINGS: Neal O. Jennings, 77, a former resident of Silver City, died June 23
in Lodi, Calif. He was born in Santa Rita on March 29, 1915. He was a Hurley
High School graduate. Mr. Jennings in 1941 moved with his family to California,
wehre he worked as an electrician. Survivors include his wife, Etta Mae Jennings
of Lodi; two sons, Delbert Jennings of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Donald Jennings of
Lodi; and a brother, Arvel Jennings of Yuma, Ariz. He was preceded in death by a
son, Byron, in 1948. Graveside services were conducted by Pastor G. G. Rauser on
June 29 in Lodi.
JENSEN: Lily Willeen Deveny Jensen, 81, died Saturday, March 25, at home in
Silver City. A celebration of her life will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at
Bright Funeral Home with Father Robert Ihlefeld officiating. Visitation with the
family will follow at the home of the daughter, Cecilia Jensen Bell. Additional
services will be conducted Saturday in Mitchell, Neb., at Jones' Funeral Chapel
interment of remains will follow at the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Morrill, Neb.
She was born Easter Sunday, March 31, 1918, in Guernsey, Wyo. She was the
daughter of Berth Lee Parham DeVeny and Cecil Clyde DeVeny. On May 7, 1941, she
married James Robert Jensen in Morrill. She is survived by her husband, James
Jensen, and daughter, Cecilia Jensen Bell, and her husband. Dr. John Bell, of
Silver City. She is also survived by her brother, Cecil DeVeny of Paso Robles,
Calif.; three grandsons, Micheal Bell and his wife, Linda Flores, of
Albuquerque, Matthew Bell and his wife, Kathy Lucero Bell, of Las Cruces, and
Mark Bell of Silver City. Two very special great- grandchildren, Amythest and
James, of Las Cruces are also survivors. She is also survived by four
sisters-in- law, Frances Simonds, Bertha Libershal, Edna Maloy and Erma
Carpenter; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was born on a homestead
ranch near Guernsey Wyo. And later moved to morill to attend public school. She
was a member of the Methodist Church in Morell. Following graduation from school
she attended buisiness college at Hastings Neb. She returned to Morell and
worked for the Moline insurance Co. After her marriage she and her husband
farmed in the Platte Valley of the Nebraska Panhandle for more than 20 years. In
1962, she moved with her family to Austin, Texas, where she worked at Seton
Hospital. In 1973, the Jensens moved to Silver City. Mrs. Jensen enjoyed giving
of herself to children and young people. She taught Sunday school in the nursery
department of the Methodist Church in Morrill for 10 years. She was a Blue Bird
leader and guardian of the Morrill Order of Job's Daughters. She also gave
generously of her time and talents to her grandchildren. She knitted sweaters
for the Silver High band to sell as part of their moneymaking projects, and
spent time altering and repairing the band uniforms. She was the "grandmother"
to many foreign exchange students who stayed with the Bell family. She was a
member of the Eastern Star Chapter of Morrill and Newcomers club of Silyer Citv
where she enjoyed' playing bridge. She enjoyed sewing and knitting for family
and friends. Outings with the Elk's Club camping group were always pleasurable
to her. She enjoyed family outings, especially picnics to City of Rocks and
fishing along Gila River. She looked forward to special moments with the
great-grandchildren. They enjoyed the "rite" of sharing Coffee and going to the
Community Built Park. Donations can be made to Penny Park, Silver city.

JENSEN: Upsilon chapter of Beta Sigma Phi held its regular meeting last Thursday
evening at the Woman's Club. In memoriam, services were then held in memory of
Gertrude Jensen, who was a charter member of the organization in 1945, treasurer
for the years 1949-50 and corresponding secretary-elect for 1950-51. She was
very active in all club activities. Mrs. Jensen was employed as a finance
officer at Fort Bayard. The impressive candlelight sevice was conducted by Mrs.
Effie Phillips, director.
JENSEN: Funeral services were held at the Cox Mortuary Chapel last Friday
afternoon for Mrs. Gertrude Hackley Jensen. Mrs. Jensen died at the Hillcrest
General Hospital last Wednesday aftera brief illness. She was 41 years of age
and had served as the finance officer at the Ft. Bayard Veteran Hospital for
some time prior to her death. Funeral services were conducted at the chapel by
the Rev. Earl Kettler of Hot Springs and burial was in the Silver City cemetery.
Pallbearers were fellow workers at the Ft. Bayard hospital. They were: Linus P.
Burke, L.P. Horcasitas, Morris L. Kimmel, and Lowell C. Like, Ralph C. Moore and
William Triviz. Survivors are a son, Wade Jensen; a sister Beulah Hackley, both
of Silver City; a brother, Elwood Hackley, Portland, Ore.; her mother-in-law,
Mrs. John Staple, Waukegan, Ill.; an aunt, Mrs. Barbara Willams, Portland; and
three uncles, Arthur, Chris and Carl Stephanson, all of Wisconsin.
JENSEN: Wade Albert Jensen, a longtime resident of Silver City, died Monday in
Phoenix. He was born in Waukegan, ILL. on Sept. 2 1938. He was a telephone
technician, working for Mountain States Telephone Co. in Cliff maintaining the
Cliff, Glenwood and Reserve telephone systems for a number of years. He was the
first engineer for radio station KNFT in Grant County and hosted a Saturday
program in the early '70s. After leaving the Silver City area in 1972, he became
involved in business. He obtained his pilots license and owned several
airplanes. Mr. Jensen was very athletic and climbed 50 mountain peaks with
altitudes of 14,000 feet or more. He died of a heart attack after one of his
usual thrice-weekly climbs up Camelback Mountain in Phoenix. He is survived by
his wife, Ella Mae knsen, and sons, Jens Jensen of Nutrioso, Ariz., Dale Jensen
of Cave Creek, Ariz., and Skip Jensen of Denton, Texas; 13 grandchildren; and
his aunt, Beulah Hackley of Phoenix. A memorial service was held at the Jensen
Ranch in Nutrioso today. An additional service will be held March 2 at Trinity
Lutheran Church, 658 Grand Ave., Waukegan.
PRIVETTS: Jesse Dean Privetts, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Bobby J. Privetts
passed away Friday December 31, at Bernalillo County Medical Center in
Albuquerque. He is survived by his parents, paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs.
Bill Privetts of Mimbres and his maternal grand parents, Mr and Mrs. Sam Martin
of Espinolá. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jànuary 4 at the Curtis-Bright
funeral Chapel with Mr. Charles Flant of the 12th and West Streets Church of
Christ officiating. Interment followed in Memory Lane Cemetery.
JESSEN: G. J. Jessen of Rensselear,Ind. died Sunday, April 25. He was a brother
of the late Dr. L. A. Jessen of Bayard and had been ill for some time. It was
this sick brother whom Dr. Jessen had gone to Indiana to see when he suffered a
fatal heart attack April 11. G. J. Jessen was well known in this area having
made several visits here.
Mrs: Anna B. Jessen, 76, for many years a resident of Bayard passed away Tuesday
in Colorado Springs, Colo, She was the widow of Dr. L. A. Jessen, who died in
1954.Surviving are two sons, Philip Jessen, Colorado Springs, and Capt. William
Jessen, U.S. Air Force, Biggs Field, El Paso, and several grandchildren.
Graveside burial services will be held Friday at 4 p.m. in the Masonic cemetery,
conducted by the Rev. Harold E. Johnson, Internment will be under direction of
the Curtis Mortuary.
JEWELL; Kenneth Earl Jewell, 82, resident of 1220 West Oak died at Mimbres
Memorial Hospital. He was born Dec. 16, 1901 in Bloom Township, Richland Center,
Wis. He was a retired farmer and in July of 1977 he moved to Deming from
Modesto, Calif. Funeral services and interment are set to be in Richland Center
Wis. this week. Locally he is survived by his wife, Rose E. Jewell of the home.

JIMENEZ: Arturo Ramos Jimenez, 22, a resident of Central, entered life eternal
Wednesday at Gila Regional Medical Center. He was born March 5, 1969. Mr.
Jimenez was a member of the Catholic Church, and was employed as a liquor
manager at Albertsons. Calling hours will be from 2-5 Monday afternoon in Baca's
Hillcrest Funeral Chapels. The prayer vigil will be held Monday night at 7 in
Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Bayard, where the funeral liturgy will be
held Tuesday morning at 10, with the Rev. Francisco Hernandez officiating. The
committal rite will follow in Memory Lane Cemetery, where he will be laid to
rest. Veterans’ honors will be accorded by the National Guard. He is survived by

JIMENEZ: Aurelio D. Jimenez, 70, who had lived in Central fifty-five years, died
Tuesday. He was a retired employee of Kennecott's Chino Mines. Only survivor is

JIMENEZ: Cleofas Vasquez Jimenez, 62, a Lordsburg resident, died Friday in a
veteran’s hospital in Tucson, Ariz. Visitation will start this afternoon at 4 at
St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Lordsburg. The prayer vigil will be held there
this evening at 7. The funeral liturgy will be recited Wednesday morning at 10
at St. Joseph’s with the Rev. Sam Garcia officiating. Interment will follow at
Shakespeare Cemetery. Mr. Jimenez was born April 9, 1930, at Valedon, N.M. He
was a service station attendant. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having
served during World War II. Mr. Jimenez was a lifelong Lordsburg resident, and a
member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. He is survived by a brother, Jerardo
Jimenez of Silver City; four sisters, Paula Mirabel of Reserve, Dellie Diaz of
Silver City, Barbara Levario of Los Angeles, and Ernestina Morelos of Lordsburg;
and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Pallbearers will be Matthew Talavera, Adam
Contreras, Ray Contreras, Juan Verdugo Jr., Paul Diaz and David Diaz. Honorary
bearers will be John Levario and Juan Verdugo. Baca's Funeral Chapels of Deming

JIMENEZ: Felix C. Jimenez, Jr., 66, a lifelong Lordsburg resident, passed away
Saturday at Gila Regional Medical Center in Silver City. He was born Feb. 12,
1928, to Felix and Antonia (Ontiveros) Jimenez at the McGee Mine near Steins,
N.M. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in World War II and the Korean
War. He married Helen Diaz on Nov. 30, 1968, in Lordsburg. Mr. Jimenez was a
member and past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3099, a member of
the American Legion, the Knights of Columbus and the Fraternal Order of Police,
and an honorary member of Beneficio Propio. He served as a troop leader for the
Boy Scouts of America and was a Little League coach. In his early years, he was
employed with Southern Pacific Railroad. He was later employed by E. J. Short
and Co. and worked as an inspector atthe port of entry. Mr. Jimenez enjoyed the
outdoors, hiking and camping. He also enjoyed reading and telling people about
New Mexico. His hobby was collecting H.O. trains. He was the Lordsburg
Mavericks' biggest fan, and was usually the first to arrive and the last to
leave at the many sporting events he attended. He is survived by his wife of 25
years, Helen Jimenez of Lordsburg; a daughter, Emilie Campbell, and her husband,
Tom, of Columbus, Neb.; three sons, Manuel Pedro Medina and his wife, Theresa,
of Garden Grove, Calif., Florencio Medina and his wife, Caroline, of Las Cruces,
and Felix C. Jimenez III of Lordsburg; three sisters, Carmen Vigil of Silver
City, Estella Guerrero and her husband, Luciano, of Lordsburg, and Isabel
Tarango of Lordsburg; two brothers, Antonio Jimenez and Apolonio Jimenez, both
of Lordsburg; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The prayer
vigil (rosary) will begin at 7 tonight at St.Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in
Lordsburg. The funeral liturgy will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church
with the Rev. Karl Polm-Faudre celebrating. The rite of committal will follow in
Shakespeare Cemetery with military honors accorded by the New Mexico National

Jimenez: Genaro V. Jimenez, 90, died at his residence Jan. 2. He was a native
Jimenez: Isela Gonzalez Jimenez, a housewife, mother, grandmother, sister and
friend, passed away Saturday, Jan. 14 in Henderson, Nev. She was born and reared
in Santa Rita and had resided in Phoenix for 28 years. Survivors include her
husband, Julian Jimenez; four daughters, Marla Woodall of Phoenix, Pam Salas of
New York City, Angela Isbell of Phoenix and Isela "Posie" Nejbauer of Henderson;
two grandchildren, Julianne and Michael Isbell; and her brother, Ruben E.
Gonzalez of Bayard. She was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Altar Society
and the Westwood Extension Homemakers Club. Burial was at Holy Cross Cemetery in
Phoenix. In lieu of material remembrances, the family has requested that

Jimenez: Minnie S. Jimenez, 84, died Friday in Hillcrest General Hospital. Mrs.
Jimenez was born in Swartz, New Mexico, and had been a life long resident of
Grant County where she was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church
in Bayard. Mrs.Jimenez is survived by seven daughters, Clara Martinez and
LucindaGarcia, both of Albuquerque, Rosa Esquibel of Ft. Bayard, Rita Holguin of
Silver City, Virginia Munoz and Marie Miranda, both of Las Cruces, Sarah Puentes
of Bayard, four sons, Henry Jimenez of Albuquerque, Pascual Jimenez of Hanover,
Julian Jimenez of Phoenix, Ariz., Arthur Jimenez of Huntington Beach, Calif.,
three sisters, Sadie Lucero of Central, Adela Torres of Deming, Viola Medina of
Calif., a brother, Jim Swartz of Deming, fifty-one grandchildren, eighty-two
great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. Rosary recitation was
said Monday evening in Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Mass of the
Resurrection was held Tuesday morning at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church with
the Reverend Father Esteban Lopez officiating at both services. Burial followed
in Memory Lane Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Robert Martinez, Leroy
Garcia, Sammy Esquibel, Jimmie Jimenez, Pedro Jimenez, Jackie Munoz, Paul
Miranda and Michael Puentes. Honorary pallbearers were Louis Martinez, Mack
Martinez, Richard Esquibel, Robert Jimenez, Gilbert Jimenez, Joe Jimenez, Bobby
Jimenez, David Munoz, Larry Munoz, Pat Puentes and David Miller.
JIMENEZ: Ramon V. Jimenez, 21, died Saturday, March 29, in Central. Mr. Jimenez
was born in Hobbs, and had been a long time resident of Grant County where he
was a communicant of Santa ClaraCatholic Church in Central and a volunteer for
the Central Fire Department. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Julio
Jimenez of Central, four sisters, Priscilla Arredondo of Hurley, Barbara
Jimenez, Mary Ann Jimenez and Rosa Jimenez all of Central, five brothers, Roy
Jimenez of Carlsbad, Julio Jimenez of Silver City, Manuel Jimenez and Ismael
Jimenez both of Central and Armando Jimenez stationed with the United States
Army. Rosary recitation was held Tuesday, April 1, evening at 7:30 at the
Curtis-Bright Chapel. Mass of the Resurrection was held Wednesday morning at 10
at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church with the Reverend Father Esteven Lopez
officiating at both services. Burial followed in Central Cemetery. Serving as
pallbearers were Ramon's five brothers and Donny Rhinehart.
JIMENEZ: Pete M. Jinienez, 54, a lifelong area resident, entered eternal rest
Friday in E1 Paso, Texas. Hewas born April 16, 1941, in Santa Rita the.son of
Pascual and Consuelo Jiminez. He was a retiredminer, having worked for Kennecott
Copper Corp. and Phelps Dodge. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Jimenez of
the home; his mother, Consuelo Jimenez of Hanover; four sons, Michael A.Jimcnez
and his wife, Maxine, of Central, Timothy E. Jimenez and his wife, Martha, of
Arenas Valley, Steven J Jimenez and his wife, Martha, of Bayard, and Peter
Jimenez of Central; and three daughters,Monica Sanchez and her husband, Eddie,
of Las Cruces, Adreana Reynolds and her husband, Edward,of Silver City, and-
Lorena Jimenez of Central. He is also survived by his brothers, Robert
Jimenezand his wife, Molly, of Biloxi, Miss., Gilbert "Hilly" Jimenez and his
wife, Manuela, of Central, andJose Alfredo "Chapo" Jimenez and his wife, Rita,
of Hanover; two sisters, Priscilla "Prissy" Tena ofSilver City, and Lucinda
"Cindy" Torres and her busband, Tony, of Hanover, and seven grandchildren. He
was preceded in death by his father, Pascual Jimenez, in 1991, and his sister,
Gloria Maria Jimenez, in1965. Visitation is from 5-7 this evening at Santa Clara
Catholic Church in Central. The rosary with Deacon Robert Jimenez reciting will
follow. The funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday morning at10 at the same
church, with the Rev. Mike Lindsay officiating. Concluding services and burial
will follow atthe Central Cemetery. Serving as casket bearers are Zeke Santa
Maria, Manuel Herrera, Flavio Gonzalez, Jessie"Chuey" Montes, Danny Benavidez
and Henry Turrey. His nieces and nephews will serve as honorary bearers.

JIMENEZ: Carlota Jimenez, 85, a resident of Silver City, died Friday in the Fort
Bayard Medical Center. Rosary was. Sunday in the Curtis-Bright Funeral chapel
and Mass was held today in the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Interment
was in the Silver City Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers were Frank Castro, Billy
Davila, Sosimo Fierro, Fidel Jaquez: Hector Pena and Albert Ybarra. Arrangements
were under the direction of the Curtis-Bright Funeral Home.
JIMENEZ: Eduviges Molina Jimenez, 86, a resident of Bayard, entered into eternal
rest Friday, Dec. 11, at University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque. She
was born Aug. 13, 1912,in San Lorenzo and was a communicant of Our Lady of
Fatima Catholic Church in Bayard. Mrs. Jimenez and her beloved husband, Manuel,
attended funeral services of all their acquaintances in the area. They will be
greatly missed by their family and the community. Calling hours were held
Tuesday at Baca's Funeral Chapels with the prayer vigil that evening. Deacon
Johnnie Perez recited the holy rosary; The funeral liturgy was to be celebrated
this morning at 10 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church with Father Paulus Kao
officiating. The rite of committaland burial followed at San Juan Cemetery,
where she was laid to rest. She is survived by a nephew, Joe Salaiz of Santa
Clara, and many other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her
husband, Manuel Jimenez, Dec. 4; a brother, Simon Molina; and a sister, Mercedes
Tellez.Casket bearers were Alfonso J and Ralph Molina, David Denton, Chris
Torres, and Johnny and Arthur Telles. Honorary bearers are the rest of her

JIMENEZ: Juanita Jimenez, 97, passed away at her home in Silver City on Friday.
"Mama Jennie," as she was lovingly called by all who knew her, will be greatly
missed. She touched many lives in different ways. She was a very humble person
who always strived to help and comfort family, friends and employers. She was
the organist for St. Anthony's Church, Holy Family and Holy Cross Mission, from
1919 to 1937, when the family moved to Goldroad, Aria. She resumed the role upon
her return to New Mexico from 1943-48. She was highly esteemed by the young
women in her choir. She was a member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus League and was
a Guadalupana since an early age. She loved children and flowers. She anxiously
anticipated spring to see her rose garden in full bloom. In recent times, her
biggest pleasure was to sit on her porch and watch the children at play at the
day-care cent r next door to her home. She adored her family. She was preceded
in death by her husband, Genaro, in 1975. Survivors include two daughters,
Conrile Becerta-Herron and Felicitas N. Jimenez, and one son, Gabriel N.
Jimenez, and his wife, Maria, all of Silver City. Also surviving are one
stepdaughter, Rosa Gomez of California; 10 grandchildren; six
step-grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, great great grandchildren,
step-great-grandchildren, step-great-great-grandchildren, and nephews and
nieces. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great-grandsons, Gino Jimenez,
John Becerra, Bill Herron, Alan Arguelbo, Salvador Davila and Andrew Davila.
Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren, great-gravidchildren, great
great grandchildren, step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, and
step-great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5-7 tonight with a
prayer vigil beginning at 7. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10a.m. Tuesday
at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.
JIMENEZ: Manuel Mar Jimenez, 88, a resident of Bayard, entered into eternal rest
Friday, Dec. 4, at Gila Regional Medical Center. He was born Aug. 24, 1911 at
Fierro. Mr. Jimenez was retired miner and communicant of Our Lady of Fatima
Catholic Church. "Tio Manuel" will be remembered by all in the comunity as a
kind, gentle, humble person. He never said an unkind word about anyone. He was a
devout Catholic and lived his life the Golden Rule. He had nosons or daughters,
but ca his nieces and nephew "hija" or "hijo." He considered them his family.
He.his loving wife, Eduviges attended funeral Services of all their
acquaintances in the area. "Tio Manuel" will greatly missed by his, family and

Jiminez of Bayard; a sister, Maria Montoya of deming; a nephew, Jos Saliz of
Santa Clara; and many other nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Bernie Saliz,
Genero Jimenez, Rand Dominguez, Benjie Ojinaga, Armando Ramos and Rube Salaiz.

JIMENEZ: Micaela Jimenez, 69, of Lordsburg passed away Saturday at her
residence. A rosary service will be conducted tonight at 7 at St. Joseph
Catholic Church in Lordsburg. The funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 10
a.m. at St. Joseph's with Father Tony Clark officiating. Interment will be in
the Shakespeare ~Cemetery. Mrs. Jimenez was born May 31, 1928, in Ojuelos,
Jalisco, Mexico, the daughter of Mercedez Victorino. Mrs. Jimenez is survived by
her husband, Julian Rodriquez of Lordsburg; a daughter, Lupe Alvarez, and her
husband, Alfonso, of Lordsburg; and three grandchildren, Cynthia, Charles ~nd
Caesar Alvarez, all ofLørdsburg.' Pallbearers will be Alfonso Alvarez, Charles
Alvarez, Christopher Alvarez, Fonzy Alvarez, Humberto Alvarez and John
Ellingworth. Lordsburg Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
