Haaland: Aage Haaland, 72, a resident of Merced, Calif., died Monday at home after a long illness. Mr. Haaland, a former Silver City resident, was employed by Chino Mines as a power house engineer for 21 years. He also worked as a cowboy in the Tyrone area, as a merchant seaman and as a truck driver. Mr. Haaland was a U.S. Army World War ll veteran, a member of Masonic Lodge No. 55 in Hurley, of Order of Eastern Star No. 43 in Hurley, and the White Shrine of Jerusalem in Merced. He was past president of the Golden Lions Club of Merced, a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism, and volunteered his services to many charitable organizations. Survivors include his wif, Amy E. Haaland; a daughter, Amy Ann Ramer, and her husband, John Ramer, and two grand-daughters, all of Merced; and his mother, Ann Maria Mollbergof Oslo, Norway. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Helen Parma. Memorial services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Unity Church in Merced. Interment will be in a famoly plot at Richland Springs, Texas. Arrangements are by Ivers and Alcorn Funeral Home of Merced. Friends in Silver City received word Monday of the death in Dallas, Texas, of Herman Haase, 53, member of an auditing firm. He formerly resided at Tyrone where his father was an engineer of mining operations for the Phelps Dodge Corporation in the heyday of that model town. ‘Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Jackie Haase; two sisters, Mrs. Emma Baldridge, Grants, N. M., and Mrs. Katherine McLonan, Palisades, Calif., and a brother, Ernest Haase, Helena, Mont. Funeral services were held in Dallas, followed by cremation. Haberman: Mrs. Bessie Haberman, 86, the mother of Mrs. Arthur L. Bach, died Monday at Hillcrest General Hospital. Mrs. Haberman, a long time resident of Bemidji, MN., had been in Silver City only three and a half months. Survivors of the deceased include two other daughters, Mrs. Frank Sachtleben of Minneapolis, MI, and Mrs. Wilbur Gordon of Willeston, ND.; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild; a brother, Roy Parsons of Beaumont, CA.; and a sister, Mrs. Albert Derr of Sacramento, CA. The Curtis Mortuary sent the remains to Bemidji, where funeral services were held in the McKee Mortuary chapel followed by burial. Haby: Eugene G. Haby, 83, of Silver City entered eternal life Friday at Gila Regional Medical Center. He was born Dec. 30, 1910, in Pearsall, Texas. He came to New Mexico in 1934 and played football for Coach Ray Brancheau in his first year as head coach at New Mexico Teachers College (now Western New Mexico University). He went to work for Chino Mines in 1937 and retired in 1975 as a maintenance superintendent. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Helen Bates Haby of the home, and three sisters and one brother, who all live in Texas. At his request, cremation has taken place at Mimbres Crematorium and a private memorial service will be held at a later date. Entrusted to the care of Baca's Funeral Chapels and Mimbres Crematorium. Haby: Helen Haby, 78, of Silver City passed away Saturday at her home. She was born June 5, 1916 in Carrizozo to Lester and Gertrude Bates. She grew up in Hurley and graduated from Hurley High School. After graduating from New Mexico State Teachers College, now Western New Mexico University, she taught primary education in Hurley until her retirement in 1974. She was a volunteer at Gila Regional Medical Center and was active in several local organizations. She was a member of the Copper Crest Country Club and the Alpine Country Club in Alpine, Ariz., where she and her husband had a home. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Eugene G. Haby, who died in November of last year, and her sister, Ruth Clayton. Survivors include her sister, Virgina Shaw of Silver City, her brother, Bob Bates of Hurley, and five nieces and nephews. At her request, cremation has taken place with Mimbres Crematorium and a memorial service willbe held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Rose Garden in Memory Lane with David Strain officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her name to the American Cancer Society or the Gila Regional Medical Center Auxiliary. Hackebil: Lillian Hackebil, 88, a resident of Deming, passed away Friday, Sept. 11, at Gila Regional Medical Center in Silver City. She was born in Old Glory, Texas, on April 23, 1904. She was a past noble grand of the Rebekahs, and was a longstanding member of the Methodist Church in Deming. She is survived by three daughters, Gaynell Upham of Deming, Joyce Webb of Byard and Nancy Reeves of Alamogordo. She was preceded in death by a son, Ray Hackebill, and her husband, Rheinard Hackebil. A memorial service was held Sunday at the Deming Methodist Church. Hastings Cremation was in charge of funeral arrangements. Funeral services were held at the Cox Mortuary Chapel last Friday afternoon to Mrs. Gertrude Hackley Jensen. Mrs. Jensen died at the Hillcrest General Hospital last Wednesday after a brief illness. She was 41 years of age and lad served as the finance officer it the Ft. Bayard Veteran hosital for some time prior to her death. Funeral services were conducted at the chapel by the Rev. Earl Kettler of Hot Springs and burial ‘as in the Silver City cemetery. Pallbearers were fellow workers atthe Ft. Bayard hospital. They included Linus P. Burke. L. P Horcasitas, Morris L. Kimmel. Lowell C Like. Ralph C. Moore and William Triviz. Survivors are a son, W,T’ Jensen, a sister Beulah Hackley, both of Silver City, a brother , elwood Hackley Portland, Or.; her mother-in-law. Mrs. John Staple Waukegan, Ill.: an aunt. Mrs. Barr Williams, Portland: and three uncles. Arthur. Chris and Carl Stephanson all of Wisconsin. Nathan E. Hackney, 58, died Monday morning at the Silver City General hospital after the car in which he was riding in with his wife and nine-year-old son was struck by another car and turned over, pinning Mr Hackney underneath it Sunday evening about 9:10 o'clock. The car which struck the Hackney's was driven by Miss Phyliss J. Stewart. Mrs. Hackney is in the hospital with a broken pelvis. Mr. and Mrs. Hackney were returning from St. Mary acadamy where they had picked up the boy and were proceeding east on 12th st. Mrs. Hackney, upon being questioned by police Chief Roy Kerr, said that she saw the car coming tward them from the south on West St. and remarked to her husband "I hope they stop". She said she did not know whether Mr. Hackney heard her or not, because almost immediately afterward, she said the Stewart car struck them. There is a stop sign on West St. at it's southern intersection. A coroners jury after hearing testimony in Justice of the Peace Andrew Haugland's court Monday afternoon, and careful inspection of the scene of the collision, failed to agree on the cause of death of Mr. Hackney. Four members said they believed Miss Stewart to be negligent and the other two said they could not place the blame on her. An autopsy was performed Wednesday in an effort to establish whether Mr. Hackney came to his death as a direct result of the accident. Physicians performing the autopsy remarked the death was caused by crushing internal injuries sustained in the collision. The Hackneys came to Silver city five years ago. Mr. Hackney was employed by the Kennecott copper Corp. Surviving Mr. Hackney are his wife, four daughters, Mrs. John Hardy of Silver City, Mrs. Russell Shafer of Ponca City Ok, Mrs. Jim Robinson of Memphis Tenn, and Mrs. Nancy Jane Hackney of Silver city; and three sons, Frank B. of Albiquerque, Mark of Ponca City Ok, and Lawrence of Silver City. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Cox mortuary Chapel with the Rev. David Holt officiating. Internment will be made in Ponca city Ok. Clarence Henry Hagen, former manager of. the Hurley airport, died on his wlfe’s grave’ in Silver City cemetery last Friday morning from a self-Inflicted bullet wound. A coroner’s jury returned this verdict. Mr. Hagen’s death followed by three and a half months that of his wife, Mrs. Hazel Hagen, who also died from self-Inflicted bullet wounds last Nov. 17. Her suicide was attributed to Ill health. Mr. Hagen had often visited his wife’s grave, and had been despondent since the tragedy. He Is survived by two children who live -In Silver City, ‘his parents, who live In Douglas, Ariz., and three sisters. ‘Burial ‘services were conducted. from Cox Mortuary Sunday’ afternoon. He was buried by his. wife’s grave. The Rev. John L Carpenter, pastor, of First Methodist church, officiated. Pallbearers were LeRoy Caudill, William Critchly, Daniel Diaz, Hubert Loynd, L A. McConkle and Thurman E. Yates. Funeral Services for Miss Jamie Lou Hagan were held in the Curtis-Bright Funeral Chapel Friday afternoon at, 2:30 pm. with the Rev. Don Brent and the Rev. Jhon Wiley officiating with’ intenment following in Memory Lane Cemetery. ‘ The family requested that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to your own church or favorite charity. Miss Hagan is survived by her parents Mr. and Mrs. James Hagan, one sister, Mrs. Jenny DeBusk and a grandmother, Mrs. Oleta Wallis: all ofSilver City. Casket bearers were Thayne Peters, Ray Shelton Roy Wllkinson, Richard Sloan, Rodney Chandler, and Harrison Bryant. Death at 11pm Christmas day at SlIvir City Genéral hospital summoned Mrs. Lillian Hagon pioneer resident. She had been seriously ill for the past several weeks. Mrs. Hagen was the WIdOW of Dr Carl Hagan for many yearis one o1 the most prominent physicians and surgeons of. Silver city. He died some years ago. Surviving: are two daughters, MIss Emllië Hagen deputy county treasurer; Mrs. Add1e Williams La Grange, Ill,; and a son, Carl Hagan, employed by a construction company in Persia. Funeral services are pending at the Cox Mortuary and will be announced later. Funeral services for William Ernest Hagan, 68 year old retired boilermaker foreman for Kennecott Copper Corp. Chino Mines Division at Hurley, were held in the Curtis Mortuary Chapel on Tuesday, with Preston Winchell of the Bayard Church of Christ officiating. Burial was made in Ft Bayard Veterans Cemetery. Mr. Hagan, who died Friday morning in the Ft. Bayard State Hospital, was a veteran of World War I. He is survived by his wife, Chloe, of Hurley; two Sons, Edward, of Hamilton, Tex., and Winfred, of Lakewood, Calif., two daughters,. Mrs. I. N. Miles of Roswell and Mrs. W. H. Nalty of Thoreau; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two brothers, Clarence Hagan of Douglas, Ariz., and Bernard of Belton, Tex.; and a sister, Mrs Benita Loynd of lnglewood, Calif. Hagan: Chloe V. Hagan, 80, passed away Thursday, Feb. 21 in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Mrs. Hagan was born in Goldthwaite, Texas and had been a life long resident of Grant County where she was a member of the Church of Christ in Bayard. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara June Nalty of Thoreau, New Mexico, a son, William Edward Hagan of Hamilton, Texas, two sisters, (Sallye) Viola Hudson of Port Ludlow, Washington, Edith Whitt of Goldthwaite, Texas, a brother Hugh A. Stack of Bakersfield, Missouri, ten grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Hagan, a daughter Mary Francis Miles and a son Winfred Hagan. Funeral services wereheld Tuesday, February 26 at the Curtis-Bright Chapel with Mr. Kenneth Evans officiating. Interment followed in Ft. Bayard National Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Clyde Isbell, Leroy Cooper, W.C. Holland, Tom Lottritz, Hoyt Ford and Bobby Freeburg. Honorary pallbearers were W.E. Nalty, Cyril Nalty, JodyNalty, Marty Mize and Richard S. Hagan. The family asks that donations in Mrs. Hagan's name be made to the American Cancer Society or the Childrens Home in Portales, N.M. Hagan: Funeral services for James B. Hagan, 47, who died Tuesday were held at the Curtis-Bright Funeral Chapel Friday at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Donald Brent officiating. Interment followed at Memory Lane Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bud Webster, Ralph Burris, John Fowler, Floyed Fowler, Ronald Smith and Robert Bates. The family requests any memorial donations be made to a favorite church or charity. HAGEN: Addie Margaret Harper Hagen, 88, passed away Monday, Jan. 26. She was born Jan. 13, 1910, in St. Louis to Addison Harper and Maude Margaret McCoud. She came to New Mexico in 1936. In October 1936, she married Eugene Russell Hagen. They~ resided at Elephant Butte until 1969. He was retired from the United States Bureau of Reclamation. She was preceded in death by her husband, in July 1970. She spent several years with her sister, Helen Bradley, in North Ilollywod, Calif. At the time of her death, she was with her son, Russell Hagen, in Silver City. Graveside services will be held Thursday at noon in Truth or Consequences. Pastor Thomas A. Perez Sr. of Cedar Hills Tabernacle will officiate. She is survived by her son, Russell Hagen, and his wife, Cecilia, of Silver City; her grandchildren, Michelle Chicas and family of Silver City, Eugene R. Hagen and family of Deming. and Kimberely Hernandez and family of Phoenix; and seven great-grandchildren. lMrs. C. H. Hagen, 29, died of a self-inflicted bullet wound at her home here about 10:30 Monday morning, according to the verdict of a coroner’s jury Mon. day afternoon. She was said to be in bad hea1th for some time.. She is survived by her husband and two children. Funeral services were held at 4 p. m. yesterday from the Cox Mortuary Chapel. Rev. Wilson L. Tuesday at theHoly Infant Jesus Catholic Church in Hurley for George Edward Haggerson, two years old who passed away Sunday at the family home. Death in the Santa Fe Railway hospital at Albuquerque last Thursday claimed John Neal Haines, 46, engineer, formerly a resident of Bavard. In recent years he had a run out of Ri ncon Mr. Haines was born at San Marcial April 19, 1900. Haines: Mrs. Vina Haines, 54, of Hatch died Monday in El Paso. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Cox Mortuary chapel, the Rev. Harold E. Johnson conducting yhe rites. Burial took place in the Silver City cemetery. Mrs. Hanies was a member of the Methodist Church, the REbecca Lodge, the ESA Sorority and the Women's Auxilliary of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Fireman and Engineers. She wasthe widow of the late John Neel Haines, Santa Fe Railroad engineer, who died in 1947. She is survivied by two daughters,Mrs. Charles C. McVaugh and Mrs.Gerry Hamilton, both of El Paso;two sisters,Mrs. Nettie Brownfieldof El Paso and Mrs. Ola Franklin of Artesia N.M.; four brothers, O.E. Van Winkle, Hope N.M.; E.O.Van Winkle,Truth or Consequences,and Audie Van Winkle, Meeker, Colo.; one uncle Edgar Watts of Roswell and five grandchildren. She graduated from high school in Silver City, and later from All Saints Junior College in Vicksburg, Miss., and Mount Royal College in Kentucky. She was employed with Job Corps in Cincinnati as a teacher when she died. She is survived by her children, John E. Hair and family of Mesquite, Texas, Lucy Marie Hair and family of Livermore, Calif., Ann Birkenhouer and family of Newport, Ky., Lt. Tom Hair and wife of Germany and Ruth McDaniel, Daniel and Paul Hair of Cincinnati. She is alsosurvived by brothers J.T. McMillen of Rosanky, Texas, and Roger McMillen of Beaverhead, N.M. and sisters Mable Frary of La Luz, N.M. and Daneen Shelley of Gila. Memorial services will be held at Grace Episcopal Church in Cincinnati. Interment will take place at Gila Mesa Cemetery on Saturday, Feb. 8, at 2 p.m. Memorial gifts may be made to the Lucy M. McMillen Scholarship at Western New Mexico University. Hale: Margaret Hale, 86, a lifetime resident of Grant County, entered eternal rest Saturday morning at her home. She was born Aug. 9, 1904, at the original HW ranch at Camp Fleming in the Mangus Valley. She was a member of a pioneer ranching family. Graveside funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 10 in the Cliff Mesa Cemetery with the Rev. David Goble officiating. Survivors include two sons, Lee Horace Rice of Oracle, Calif., and William Bates Kirkland of Roswell; a daughter, Cassie June Garber of San Diego; and a brother, Denton Dell Hooker of Fort Bayard. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren. Entrusted to the care of Baca's Hillcrest funeral Chapel. Hale: Funeral services for Willard Hale were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 at the Cox Mortuary chapel. Mr. Hale, 51, died Friday. He had been a resident of Silver City for the past seven years and was employed in the brick department of Kennecott Copper Corp. He is survived by his wife; four sons, John, Ray, Gene and James McDowell; three daughters, Mrs. Audean Grerson, Mrs. E.C. Hand and Mrs. June Helvin; five brothers, Will, Price, James, Hardy and Maybrow; two sisters, Mrs. Syble Terry and Mrs. Jewell Goodwin and eleven grandchildren. Services were in charge of Juniper Lodge 13, Silver City and Bayard Lodge 18 of the Order of Odd Fellows. Burial was in the Silver City cemetery. HALE: Janice S. Hale, 84, passed away Friday at her residence in Centerfield, Va. She lived in Grant County from 1927 through 1957. She was employed in the Grant County and Sierra County school systems as a teacher. She is survived by her daughter, Clara L. ` Solesbee of Centerfie1d; a brother, Robert L. Stephens of Lake Ridge, .Va.; a granddaughter, Holly E. Solesbee of Fort Worth, Texas; and a great-grandson, .James D Solesbee, of Centerfied. Services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Memory Lane Cemetery, with Bishop Jerry McDonald officiating. Mr. Hales was a native of Texas and had resided in Grant County for the past 22 years. He was a member of the Santa Rita Masonic Lodge #44 AF & AM. Mr. Hales is survived by his wife Mrs. Lena Hales of Bayard; a son Dougan Hales of Las Cruces; a daughter Mrs. Beth Kartchner of Bayard and two grandchildren. Survivors also include a brother Jack Hales of Duncan. Az. and six sisters. Mrs. Betty Patterson of Baddet. Minn.; Mrs. Nina Legge of Morenci, Az.; Mrs. Aggie Perkins of Salt Lake City Utah; Mrs. Eula Estes of Globe. Az.; and Mrs. Pearl Jones of Morenci. Az. She was born Nov. 11, 1907, in Superior, Neb., to John, G. Williams and Grace Pearl Verbeck. Mrs. Hall was a former resident of California, Oregon, Florida, Deming and Tyrone. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Survivors include one daughter, Emily Evelyn Klingenberger Varah of Milwaukie, Ore.; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Hall, in December 1983. Services were officiated by the Rev. Phillip Royal on Jan. 7 at the Land-sun Homes Chapel. Music and song were provided by Barbara Chester. Cremation services were performed by Sunset Gardens of Carlsbad. Burial will be at Mountain View Cemetery in Deming. Death from a heart attack last Saturday morning claimed Harry T Hall 77 at the home of Mrs Ada T Todd. Born in Ohio Mr Hall had lived in New Mexico for the last 50 years for many years he owned a newsstand in Deming. He moved to Silver city several years ago purchasing a small orchard at Pinos altos. Funeral rites were held Tuesday morning at the Hinman mortuary chapel the Rev David E Holt rector of the church of the Good Shepard conducting the services. Hoseo. Dean Hall, 90; died at White mountain communities hospital Aug. 15, 1983 , in ‘Springerville,.’Ariz. Funeral services were Friday, Aug. 19 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of’ Quemado. Hall is survived by his wife, Sara Lowe Hall; three sons, Adrian Hall of California, Gordo0 Hall of Tempe, Ariz. and Leon Hall of Grants, N.M.; two daughters, Fern Gold of Las Cruces and Gertrude Erion of Missouri; one Sister1 Hatti-Ne1son of Bell City, Okla,; 20 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, He was’ preceded in death by one daughter, Violet. Hall was born in Wolf City, Texas Nov 16,, 1892. He attended school in Texas and was a farmer in OkIahoma. He married in San Lorenzo Tex Nov 9 1924 and was marriewd for 59 years. He moved to New Mexico in 1934 in two covered wagons and originally began farming in the state about 1949 when he switched to ranching the Quemado area. Hall lived 10 years in House, N.M. and worked for W.P.A. At the time of hi death he was retired and living in Quemado. Hall had joined the First Baptist Churh in Quemado in 1947. Services areunder Ihr direction of Jewes mortuary, Springerville Ariz. HALL: James Matthew Hall, 72, who had lived in Grant Conty since he was born, died today. Word was received by Mrs Laura Fooshee, Hurley, of the death in Shreveport LA on Feb. 15 of L. Edwin Hall. former resident of Hurley. Mr Hall and his late wife, the former Maxine Fooshee, moved from Hurley to Shreveport when the Kennerrtt operations were down in 1934 Mr. Hall is survived by a sister in Louisiana. and a brother, Carl, of Yuma, Arizona. Word was received by Mrs Laura Fooshee, Hurley, of the death in Shreveport, Louisiana on February 15 of L. Edwin Hall, former resident of Hurley. Mr Hall and his late wife, the former Maxine Fooshee, moved from Hurley to Shreveport when the Kennecott operations were closed down in 1934. Mr. Hall is survived by a sister in Louisiana, and a brother, Carl, of Yuma, Arizona. Mrs. Rose E. Hall, of Bayard, was in Truth or Consequences the past week, where she attended the funeral services of her brother, George K. Walker, 68, a resident there for 36 years. He was a graduate of New Mexico University. Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Winifred Walker; three sons and two daughters. Hall: Andy C. Hall, Sr., age 89, resident of 820 W. Hemlock passed away at St. Joseph's Hospital in El Paso Thursday evening February 1st. He was born August 13, 1889 in San Saba, Texas and had been a Deming resident for the past 65 years where he was a businessman for many years. He married his wife, Blanche in 1928 in Silver City and celebrated their Golden aniversary last October. Mr. Hall was a member of the Copper and Elm Church of Christ. In Deming he coached the Enforcer's slow¬ pitch softball team and became known as "Coach." He was considered a master gardener with several placements at the county fair. He operated a National Weather Service station in Derning. Mr. Hallock was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World II and was a member of the Denting Hannoneers and the California Retired Teachers Association. She retired from the Hospital to become county commissioner in 1982 and served in the capacity until f1986. She was the state delegate to he Republican National Convention and helped her daughter operate an auction company in Reno, Nev. As a young man, he played in all the divisions of Little League baseball. He was a Boy Scout and a member of the Order of the Arrow. He graduated from Silver High School in 1972 and attended Western New Mexico University. While in high school and college, he excelled in baseball and basketball, receiving many trophies and awards, includin the Sterling Award. While attending Western New Mexico University, he was a member of the Mustang team during its glory years when the Mustangs went to Kansas City and played for the national championship. While in college, he was employed by Busby Motors and Chino Mines. Mr. Hamilton was also part owner of YuccaFord from 1986-89 and was past president of the Silver City Jaycees. He was an avid outdoorsman, and active in community fund-raising activities and sporting events. Hamm, 78, of Silver City entered life eternalearly Thursday morning in Hacienda de Salud nursing home. He was born Nov. 4, 1912, in Perry, Okla., and had been a Grant County resident since 1965. Dr. Hamm was a member of the Silver City First United Methodist Church. He was a charter member of the Grant County Rolling Stones and a veteran of World War II. Dr.Hamm was a graduate of Oklahoma University and Creighton Medical School. He joined Watts Clinic in 1965, where he practiced for several years before moving his practice to Med Square Clinic. Mrs. Jane Potter Hampton, 37, of Reserve, died May10 in an El Paso hospital. Haner of Silver City passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home early in the morning of Monday, March 2. Mrs. Haner was 91. She was born Oct. 25, 1906, in Louisville, Ky., the seventh daughter of Elizabeth Miller Nestele and Charles Nestele. She is survived by her younger sister, Carolyn Winston of Anaheim, Calif.; her special friend, Gary Clauss of Silver City; and by her niece, CaçolBeth Elliott of Silver City. She was healthy and active to the end. As a younger woman, she was a homemaker and also worked outside the home. Later, she cared for family members. She was always interested and involved in the communities where she lived. She was active in her church throughout the years. She enjoyed life in so many ways: reading, sewing, quilting, following baseball, basketball and golf, spending time with her family, and corresponding with her many friends. Hanny, former state supervisorwith the Extension Service at New Mexico State University, died Friday night in an El Paso hospital following a short illness. He graduated in 1960 from Mary Carroll High School, where he was active J in sports and school organizations, and excelled academically. He graduated from Texas A&M with the Class of '64. He received his doctor of veterinary F medicine degree in 1968 and started the Everhart Animal Hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas, where he practiced J for five years. In 1980, he earned his medical degree, followed in 1984 by a specialty in radiology from St. Vincent's Hospital in Bridgeport, Conn. He served as a radiologist at William Beaumont Hospital in El , Paso, Texas, while on active duty from 1984-87. He joined Dr. Dennis McMullen in Silver City in 1987 and they formed Southwest Ra- ^ diologist Associates. He practiced in Silver City for 14 years. The day of his retirement, Sept. 23, 1999, was declared Dr. Jim Hansard Day by a decree from the office of Mayor John Paul Jones of Silver City. Dr. Hansard served active duty and in active reserves in the military. He earned the_ rank of Colonel. He 'served in Vietnam, Desert Storm, Bosnia, Honduras and El Salvador, earning numerous medals and commendations during active duty and active reserve service. He was de- voted to his family and above all. had an abiding faith and personal relation- ship with Christ. He enjoyed going on medical missions and served faithfully in the First Baptist Church in Silver City as a deacon as well r as in other capacities. An open smile, a friendly way and a willingness to help others were part of his trademark characteristics. She taught at WNMU for 13 years before retiring to Missoula in 1978. Mrs. Hanson served as chairwoman of the department of home economics at Western from 1970-1978. She was buried in Missoula beside her husband, Ralph, who had preceded her in death by two weeks. Mrs. Hanson is survived by a son, a sister and a brother-in-law, all of Missoula. Hanson: Irvin F. July second of Mrs Mary AnnRose Harbottle, 88, a member of the pioneer Rose family of Grant county and a resident of Silver City for many years, coming here with her parents in 1875. Rosary and funeral services were held in San Diego, with requiem mass being said in St. Ann's Catholic Church July 3, following burial in the Catholic cemetary. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Lewis and Mrs. Peggy Barker and two sons. Hard: Miss Ruby Hard, 60, a member of the staff at the Teachers Education Center, Western New Mexico University, died Monday in her apartment on West Street. Death was attributed to a heart attack. Miss Hard came to Silver City in 1960 from East Carolina College. She graduated from George Peabody College, Nashville, Tenn., where she received B.A. and M.A. Degrees and also conpleated graduate work. Nearest kin is a sister, Mrs. Frances M. Mrs. Rose Mae Hardee. 33. was killed, and her husband..and two children were injured Saturday night when their car crashed into the bridge over the Mimbres river between ‘Hurley and Deming. The two children, .Janette Faye, 7, and Thomas Ray, 11, each received broken bones, and possibly more serious injuries. Apparently a wheel on the car locked and swerved the car into the bridge. Mrs. Hardee had lived here a year and a half. She is survived by her two children; her. husband, Murrill; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jules Broussard of Lake Arthur, La.; four sisters and nine brothers. She was a sister.in.law of Mrs. Ruby Couch and Mrs. Geneva Watkins Houser, both teachers ‘in the Silver City public schools. He was employed as a machinistat Chino Mines until his retirement in 1975. Hardin: Marvin R.Hardin, 77, a resident of Silver City for the past 23 years and formerly of Bisbee, Ariz., passed away Tuesday at Fort Bayard Medical Center. He was born June 20, 1918 to Ernest and Lena (Crabtree} Hardin in Hanson, Ky. He married Marion Anderson on Nov. 24, 1940 in Douglas, Ariz. and they soon moved to Bisbee. He was employed with Phelps Dodge Mining Corp. in Bisbee for 29 years until transferring to the Phelps Dodge Mine in Tyrone and relocating to Silver City in 1972. He retired from Phelps Dodge in 1980 after 37 years of service. Mr. Hardin was a member of the First United Methodist Church and enjoyed bowling and camping. He also enjoyed hunting and killed a record white tail deer. He will be remembered by many for making people laugh at silly jokes he enjoyed telling. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marion Hardin of Silver City; a son, William R. Hardin and his wife, Angela, of Spokane, Wash.; grandchildren, Navy Lt. She served faithfully as a preacher’s wife with Mr Harding In Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Arkansas, Utah and then in Silver City since July 19, 1957. The deceased is survived by her husband and three sons, Julian, Max and Kenneth, ages 16, 14 and 3½: her mother, Mrs. Vera Phillips of Corsicana, Texas, two sisters, Mrs. Bernis Garrett of Fort Worth, Texas and Mrs Pauline Mired of Ennis, two brothers, Palma Canaday of Dallas, Texas, and Lon Canady of Hot Springs, Ark.; one aunt. Harding was born in Paducah, Tx the daughter of Leonard Leon and Louise Myrtle Ladd. The family moved to the Mountainair NM area when she was a small child. She grew up at Claunch attending schools in Mountainair, Claunch and graduating high school in Corona. In preparation for her teaching career, she attended college at both Silver City Teachers College (now Western New Mexico University) and New Mexico Normal University (now Highlands University) at LasVegas. In 1939, she was married to Charles Lindsey Harding, a pharmacist of Mountainair. Later they owned and operated drug stores in Magdalena, Socorro and Chama. Their Chama Drug store was known in that area by the name of "Pappy's and Laddie's Drugs." She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and a brother. Mrs. Harding is survived by a brother, Col. Roy E. Ladd and wife Pat of Ft. Myers Beach, Fla; two sisters, Esther Ladd Rockwell of Silver City and Elaine Ladd Ingram and husband Pat of Socorro; an uncle, Loy A. Robinson of Cedarville; an aunt, Carmer Petross Freudenburg of Kinnewick, Wash; 2 nephews; 5 nieces; 7 great-nephews; 4 great-nieces; 1 great-great- nephew; 1 cousin Donna Carter of Silver City and many other cousins. Calif., who died last week, were held Monday at Riverside, Calif. A native of Silver City, Mrs Hardy spent a part of her young days In Burkhorn. She was the daughter of Mrs. Tom Hare who now resides at RosweIl, and the late Clee Crumbley who died here several years ago. Other immediate survivors of the deceased are her husband, Jack Hardy, and four children. Hardy: John Steven Hardy, 66, a resident of Mimbres for the past 20 years, passed away Thursday at his home. He was born Aug. 13, 1929 to Ralph and Avis (Green) Hardy in North Troy, Vt. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army. He served his country in the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Staff Sgt. Hardy was a recipient of the United Nations Medal, Korean Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with device, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars and Good Conduct Medal Bronze Clasp with two loops. He married Linda Horn on Dec. 22, 1978 in Silver City. Mr. Hardy was a proud and active member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Silver City No. 1718, served three terms as governor of the lodge, and held numerous other offices. He was last year's vice president and in the past held many different offices for District No. 9. He was also a member and held numerous offices with Legion Enchantment No. 134 and enjoyed being a Member of Fellowship with Legion of the Moose. He was a past commander and held other offices with Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3347, and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 3317 in Williamsburg, NM. He took pride in being a Seam Sqauirrel with Pup Tent Cooties No. 6. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 4 in Deming and a former member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 1. He is survived by his wife, Linda S. Hardy of Mimbres; a son, John S. Hardy, also of Mimbres; a daughter, Cynthia A. HARKEY: Laura Belle Harkey,. longtime Grant Count resident, passed away the morning of Wednesday, Jan. 23 in Mesa, Ariz. , following a lengthy battle with cancer. She was 84. Mrs. Harkey was the sixth among eight children and the youngest daughter of’ T.C. and Martha Ellen Wakins, who came to this area in a covered wagon in 1884. She was married to Clyde C. Harkey in 1917 in Silver City, where they later made their home on 12th Street until moving to their ranch at Mule Creek in 1947. She moved to Arizona in 1976 to live closer to her daughters, Barbara Carpenter of Phoenix, and Sharon Fry of Tempe. Both Harkey girls were brought up in Silver City. Mrs Harkey also is survived by three gmandchildren, Clydene Dechert of Scottsdale, An,., Craig Fry and Laura Fry of Tempe, Aiiz: Relatives still residing in this area are Alexander Watkins of Mule Creek and Dan Watkins of Cliff. Harlan, mother of John Harlan of Silver City, died Thursday in a Birmingham, Ala., hospital and was buried saturday in alexander City Ala. Mr Harlan had been with his mother 10 days priar To her death. Surviving is another son C. L. Harlan.Julia Andrea, daughter of Mr. and MrsJohn Harlan is the only surviving grandchild. Mrs. Lucille Harlan, 66, who had been a resident here for 42 years, died Monday evening at Hillcrest General Hospital, following an. Illness of some duration. Survivors of Mrs. Harlan include her husband, John G. Harlan, of Silver City; her daughter, Miss Julia Andrea Harlan, teacher in the San Diego, Calif. school system; a brother, John A. Davis, Jr., and a nephew, John A. Davis III, of Ft. Payne, Ala. Mrs. Harlan was born in November, of 1901 in Ft. Payne, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John A. Davis. Following graduation from Judson College in Marion, Ala., she taught school for’ four years. She came to silver City as a bride in 1926. She then taught English and Spanish ‘in the Hurley High School approxImately 10 years, and served as acting principal of the school during her last year there. Mrs. Harlan was a charter member of the Grant county chapter of the American Association of University Women; and had been active in local Girl Scouting for 15 years. She was also a member of the Faculty Women’s Club at Western New Mexico University. She took an active part ‘in the Women’s Society of Christian Service of the First Methodist Church and was a study leader of Circle No. 1 of that organization. Harlan; Dr. John Gilbert Harlan, 83, died April 23 at the Sierra Medical Center in El Paso, Texas after a lengthy illness. Dr. Harlan was born Aug. 20, 1900 in Alexander City, Ala., the son of Dr. Aaron Lafayette and Minnie E. Gilbert Harlan. Dr. Harlan had resided in Silver City for the past 59 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, past president of the Silver City Rotary, an active participant and contributor to many organizations...(see microfilm). HARPER: Thomas Harper, 64, of Silver City died Thursday at his home. Arrangements by Bright Funeral Home. Harper: Beatrice Salisbury Harper, 63, of Red Rock died Thursday at Gila Regional Medical Center. She was born in Louisiana but had lived in Grant County for 34 years. She was a member of the worldwide Church of God. She enlisted in the Army in 1945 and was honorably discharged in 1946. Survivors include her husband, Grant Harper of Red Rock; a daughter, Robin Jean Wilson of Tucson, Ariz.; two sons, David Harper of Odessa, Texas, and Johnny Harper of Los Alamos; a sister, Fay Avidision of Fowler, Calif.; a brother, Fred Salisbury of West Monroe, La.; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Russel Salisbury, in 1944. Harper: Mrs. Ida Murphy, pioneer of Grant County, who died here January 26, was born in Silver City August 18, 1882. Her father Daniel Murphy, came to the United States as a stowaway from County Clare, Ireland. After his marriage to Mrs. Harper's mother, a native of Nashville, Tenn., they set out for New Mexico in 1880. Arriving in Silver City and observing the absence of any building material except timber and adobe, Mr. Murphy established Silver City's first brick yard on property located between the present Food Mart and the Big Ditch. Almost all of Silver City north of 12th street became the original Murphy homestead, witch included Silver Heights. Her Father died in 1885. When Ida Murphy was 12 years, her mother died. The young girl lived in a convent at the present site of St. Vincent's Parochial School. When she left the school, she lived with older sisters and worked until her marriage to Jim Harper, April 5, 1905. The Grant County Pioneer lived all her life in Grant County, most of the time in Redrock. When her husband died in 1944, she moved to Silver City, after a short stay in Lordsburg. Mrs. Harper had four children, Marvin, of Animas; Capitola Doolittle, Snelling, Calif; Mrs. Ruth Phillips, Silver City, and Sherman, of Arenas Valley. Mrs. Harperwas buried in Mountain View Cemetery, Lordsburg, beside her husband, Jim Harper. Funeral services were held at the Heather Mortuary. Burial followed in the Silver City cemetery. He died April 21 in Albuquerque.. Mr. Harrington was born in Blanco, Texas. July 22, 1878. He was the son of John Walton Harrington., a pioneer Texas rancher, and Mrs. Sarah WImberly) Harrington. His ancestors first settled in Texas In 1815 and some of them fought in the war for Texas Independence and participated in many engagements against the hostile Indians. He was educated in the public schools of Blanco County and during his early life worked on his fathers ranch. As a youngster he had some cattle of his own and he has had his own cattle brand for more than 75 years. He was never without a cow of his own for over three-score years and he never at any time worked for wages. Mr. Harrington was widely known and a successful rancher of Grant County, whose homestead ranch is situated some 10 miles east of Santa Rita. He has been closely associated with the livestock industry in New Mexico for 53 years. He came here in 1898 and was first engaged in a partnership ranching enterprise in association’ with his brother V. P. Harrington. Their ranch was located 6 miles north-of Fort Bayard and the partnership continued until 1901 when Mr. Harrington disposed of his interests to his brother. ln 1905 he bought the ranch property back, but the following year again sold out, to the government and then moved to hls ranch where he had range and he bought the T-box ranch from the GOS Cattle Co and lived on it until 1927 when he built his present home near the Mimbres River. He had sixty acres of irrigated land devoted to raising feed crops and 25 sections of grazing land on which he ran over 400 head of cattle with some registered breeding stock. Mr. Harrington and Miss Flora Flury, a member of a pioneer and well-known New Mexico family, were married July 16, 1902, on the old Club ranch four miles from Sliver City They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary two years ago. He is survived by his wife, three daughters, Ruth. who married Horace L Bounds and now lives in Membres, Margarite now Mrs Dewey Benedict of Gage and Genevieve now Mrs Roy A Gunter of Deming. Mrs Harris was, born in El Paso, but had been a resident of Grant County for several years prior to moving to Patagonia, Ariz. She was vice presidrnt of Strong and Harris Mining Contractors and was a life member of, thé Order of Easter Star, Hurley Chapter No. 43. Tom O Harris, 80, a retired rancher of Gila died Sunday at Hillcrest General hospital in Silver city. Harris, 68, a resident of Fort Bayard for the last six years, entered life eternal Thursday at Fort Bayard Medical Center. He was born July 18, 1924, in Saxton, Miss. He was raised in Yeso, N.M. and Fort Sumner, where he attended school. Mr. Harris served in the U.S. Army with the 456th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion from Sept. 17, 1942, to Nov. 2, 1945. His assignments included Normandy, northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. His citations included the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. Harris Sr. of Las Cruces passed away Tuesday at his home. Born in Kearney, Neb., he moved with his family to New Mexico at age 5. He joined the New Mexico National Guard in 1938, and served in the Philippines with the 200th Coast Artillary. Mr Harris survived the infamous Bataan Death March and was a prisoner of the Japanese for four years. Upon his return to Silver City, he attended Western New Mexico University. After graduation, he worked as a lineman with Kennecott Copper Corp. in Santa Rita. He and his family then moved to White Sands Missile Range, where he held a succession of positions, culminating as director ‘of special services. After his retirement from White Sands in 1982, he was active in the local and state Ex-Prisoner of War chapters, serving several terms as state commander. Mr. Harris’ military decorations included the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart and the Meritorious Civilian Service Award. He is survived by his wife, Eriedell Lacy Harris of the family home; his daughter, Jean B. Sholes, and her husband, Michael, of Lago Vista, Texas; his son, Donald C. Harris Jr., and his wife, Marsha, of El Paso, Texas; his brother, J.M. York of Riverside, Calif.; and two grandchildren Michael B. Sholes of Lago Vista and Diane C. Harris of El Paso. He was born June 1, 1968, in Deming to Chief and Helen Harris. He graduated in 1986 from Silver High School, where he was active in sports, having excelled in tennis, baseball, swimming and bowling. He was also named to Who's Who Among American High School Students. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was active in the Methodist Youth Fellowship and with Pack 114 and Troop 114 of the Boy Scouts. He later attended Western New Mexico University and New Mexico State University. At the time of his death, he was associated as a rancher at the Club Ranch, following in the footsteps of family members who were pioneers in the area more than 100 years ago and founded what is known as the Club Ranch. Survivors include his mother, Helen V. Harris of Silver City; his brothers, Brad Edwards of Albuquerque and Steve Thomison of Silver City; a sister, Linda Harris (Mrs. Mike) Rowse of Las Cruces; his grandmothers, Lola Belle Vesely of Silver City and Carmen Harris of Deming; his great-aunts and great-uncle, Juanita Franks, Edith Vesely, and Alvin and Mary Franks of Silver City; an aunt, Patsy Harris Wrinkle of Bayard; a niece and nephew, Jocelyn and Marissa Rowse of Las Cruces; and a cousin, Nicole Vesely Redstrom of Silver City. Mrs. Harris was also an active member of the Grant County Art Guild. She and her husband, Raymond, who preceded her in death in 1990, were Minibres residents since 1980. After three years on the Sentinel, Harrison joined the New Mexican. but left the newspaper business after a year to work In the campaign of Republican presidential candidate Wendell Willkie After Willkie lost in 1940; Harrison went to work as capitol as capital correspondent for the Albuquerqee Journal. He left newspaper work again in 1943. For five months he worked at Los alamos during the time the first bomb was being developed. After five months at this job Harrison rejoined the New Mexican as a reporter and became editor in 1947, He, was serving as its editor when the New Mexican celebrated it’s 100th anniversary in 1949, the oldest newspaper west of the Mississippi. He was married Sept. 23, 1936, and was married 51 years. He was a Mason and belonged to the Jacinto Lodge, Jacksonville Ark. He had been a resident of Silver City for 14 years and retired from Phelps Dodge Corp. after 27 years of service. At his retirement he was the chief cost clerk in the cost accounting section. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Silver City. He is survived by his wife, Louise Harrison of Silver City; two daughters, Helen L. HARSH: Bravton Harsh, 30, died Thursday in Albuquerque. Mr Harsh was born in Silver city and had been a lifelong resident. He was employed by Hamilton Western construction Co. Phillip Harvey Harsh, father of Fiske Harsh and Mrs. Jack Slewart of Silver City, died Sunday afternoon, May 4th, at 3:00 p.m. A pioneer resident of this cornmunity, M r.. Harsh attended Hiedelberg College at Tuffin, Ohio. In 1878 he married Ida Ariora Hoyt. Both Mr. and Mrs.Harsh were natives of Fostoria. Ohio, and Mr. Harsh engaged in the hardware buisiness in tha’ city and in Canton, Minn., until 1897, when ho moved to a farm which he operated in Harriman. Tcnn. Mr. Harsh Came to New Mexico in 1908 and bought what is now known a.s the Roscdajv Dairy, He retired from busi ness in 1927, when he and Mrs Harsh moved to Glendale, Ca. where they made their home until Mr Harsh’s death, DEc 28, 1942. His son, Fisk Harsh has continues the management of the rosedale dairy. Harsh died March 15 atHillcrest Hospital after an extended illness. Born 1887 in Canton, Minn, he was the son of Phillip Harvey Harsh and Ida Hoyt Harsh. Coming to Silver City from Tenessee in 1904 he was later assoicated with his father in the Rosedale Dairy. Harsh saw service in France with the 21st Engineers during World War I. He married Annie Flora Currie in 1920. Following the war Harsh was proprietor of a garage in Tyrone and in 1923 was manager of the Ft. Bayard Dairy. In 1927 he became owner and operator of the Rosedale Dairy until his retirement in 1966. He had 35 years of continuous membership in the American Ailingham Golding Post No. 18, was a member of the Masons, and a past president of the Lions Club. In 1945 he and Mrs. Harsh made a gift to the Town of SilverCity of 13 acres of land which comprise The Memory Lane Cemetery. Survivors include his widow, Annie Currie Harsh; three sons, George Clinton Harsh of Gila, Robert Currie Harsh of Silver City and Glenn Ray Harsh of Tuscola ILL. A daughter Ada Grace, died in1968. There are 12 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild; and one sister Mrs. Frances Anderson of Covia, CA. Harsh: Wilda C. Harsh, 69, passed away Sunday at Gila Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Harsh was born Sept. 18, 1922, in Snyder, Texas, to Nary and Princess (Burton) Wade. She graduated from Quemado High School as the salutatorian of the Class of 1940. Mrs. Harsh worked in the general store in Mogollon in the early 1940s, where she met her future husband, Ike. They were married in Silver City on March 2, 1942. She worked as a riveter in the Douglas Aircraft Factory in Long Beach, Calif., during World War II. She was a homemaker who enjoyed grdening and canned what she grew. She sewed for her family and enjoyed crocheting. She loved animals. She raised two baby possums that her dogs brought to her when on a farm in Arkansas. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Ike Harsh of Silver City; her children, Rowena and Larry Tate of Silver City; Bessie and Fred Hardt of Rockford, Ill., and Eddie and Leila Harsh of Boise, Idaho; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Those lcoally include Roy, Rose, Marrissa, Myra, Roy Aaron and Miranda Tate of Playas, and Tyra, Paul and Starr Ann Moore and Tayna Tate of Silver City. She preceded him in death, as did his grandson, Loy Tate, in 1984. He is also survived by his brother, Rex Harsh, and his wife, Donna, of Buena Pamt, Calif.; his sister, Ruby Kappmeyer, and her hus¬ band, "Kapp," of La Vernia, Texas; several nieces and nephews; and his special friend, Janet Steinberger. He loved to joke and spin tall tales. He wrote some poems and was a doodle cartoonist. Mr. Harsh liked good music and going to the mines. He got joy from seeing wIld animals. in recent years, he was active at the Silver City Senior Citizens Center, where he spent many hours with his friends. He was a member of the Gila Rounders, a dance group; this gave him much pleasure. He worked in the oilfields in Texas, in the mines at Mogollon, and ran the Conoco station in Quemado. He worked many years on road construction, living all over the stale of New Mexico. He ran the lay-down machine for the asphalt, and he worked for Home State partners in Grants. He and his wife, Wilda bought a farm in northeast Arkansas where they raised cattle, hogs and hay. He moved to Silver City to be closer to family. Mr. Hart was a computer specialist with Chino Mines Co. and had also worked with Phelps Dodge in Douglas and Morenci, Ariz. He was skilled in electronics, especially radios and computers, and served as a part-time engineer for KNFT radio. He held a commercial pilot's license and had his private pilot's license before obtaining a vehicle driver's license. He was born Oct. 28, 1916, in San Diego to Mable Agnes Forsyth and Thomas Edward Hartigan. At their death, he was adopted and reared by his uncle, Thomas Hall Forsyth, and his wife, Ruth. They made their home in Gallup, where he graduated from high school. He attended New Mexico State University, where he was active in sports. He was always an avid sportsman who loved all sports and participated in most, including football, basketball, professional softball, golf, bowling and many more. He was a master carpenter and general contractor. Mr. Hartigan started Southwest Urethane Roofing Co. with his wife, LaRoi, in 1972. In 1992, he was honored and recognized for his years of contributions to the betterment of the industry. Mr. Hartigan married LaRoi Dempsey at the First Christian Church in Deming on June 10, 1941. He was a Merchant Marine serving during World War II. They made their home in Santa Monica until they moved back to Deming in 1946. He retired and moved to Las Cruces in 1994. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, LaRoi Hartigan of Las Cruces; a daughters Julie Hassman, and her husband, Bill, of Deming; his grandchildren, Eric and his wife, Julie J. Hassman, and Jada and her husband, Robert Witmer; three great-grandchildren, Eric, Brandi and Tiffany Hassinan; a sister, Patience Ferbe of El Cajon, Calif.; and a brother-in-law, Rex Dempsey, his wife, Frances Gean, and their children. Harvell: Leslie John Harvell, 78, of Lordsburg passed away Sunday at Sunshine Haven Nursing Home in Lordsburg. Mr. Harvell was born Feb. 25, 1915, to James C. and Daisy J. (Wilson) Harvell in Tamms,Ill. He was born and raised on the Harvell family farm near Tamms. He moved to Arizona in 1938, where he worked for Inspiration Mines near Miami. He married Martha Martin on Feb. 10, 1940, in Lordsburg. During World War II, he was employed at Consolidated Air Craft Co. in Tucson, Ariz., where he built military aircraft. He moved to Lordsburg in 1946, where he was part owner and operator of the Hidalgo Garage. He then worked for the Banner Mine, the Henry Clay Mine, and retired from Brown and Root Construction Co. in 1979. Mr. Harvell was a past grand chancellor of the Knights of Pythias. He spent his spare time catfishing in the Gila River near Red Rock. Mr. Harvell will be remembered as a hard-working man by all who knew him. Haslam: Grace Haslam, who for the past 12 years has made her home in Hurley with her daughter, Jacqueline Haslam, died Dec. 31 at Hillcrest General Hospital in Silver City. Mrs. Haslam was born February 17, 1894 at Warehouse Piont, Conn., and graduated from nurses training in 1914 in Massachusettes. She also took a post-graduate course in obstetrics, then followed her nursing career and public health work in Massachusettes, Utah and Wisconsin, and engaged in charity work. Hatch, 73, former U.S. Senator and retired federal district judge in New Mexico, died Sept. 15 in an Albuquerque hospital, foIlowing a long illness. While a senator he’ authored the Hatch Act, which prohibited federal employees from activity in politics. After serving in the Senate for 15 years, Hatch was appointed by President Harry S. Truman in 1949 as U. S. District Judge for New Mexico and filled this judicial position until 1961, when he retired because of ill health. Hatfield: Charles W. Hatfield, 51, died at his home Feb. 1 after an illness. He was born Sept. 13, 1937, in Chicago, Ill., was a self-employed investment counselor, and had been a resident of the Silver City area since 1977. Hatfield: Marion B. Hatfield of Silver City died Nov. 12 at the age of 86 while visiting her family on Long Island, N.Y. Hatfield and resided with him until his death in New York in 1962. She then moved to Florida and finally to Silver City where she became a resident of New Mexico about four years ago. She was a world traveler and was extremely active in ballet and ballroom dancing until just three years ago. She was a lifelong, active participant in, and member of, the Presbyterian Church. She is survived by two sons, a daughter and their three spouses; seven grandchildren, two granddaughters-in-law; one grandson in law; and one great-grandson. She was a delightful, vivacious woman, loved by all who met her, and she will be deeply missed. Funeral arrangements will consist of a brief ceremony on Long Island and burial beside her beloved husband in Rye, N.Y. No donations or flowers are expected. Mrs. Belle Hopkins Haven, 97, died in San Diego CA after. a lingering illness. Mrs. Haven had made her home in San Diego for the past 14 years. She was a longtime resident of Silver City and after the death of her husband, Roland D. Haven, in 1930, who~ was a prominent businessman, made her home with her sister the late Mrs. Melvin Porterfield Sr before moving to California. Mrs. Haven was an accomplished church organist and pianist and for a number of years taught both organ and piano. Funeral and cremation services were held in San Diego following her death and the cremated remains were interred in the family plot in Memory Lane cemetery Saturday morning at 10 am, with the Rev. C. M. Henderson of the Church of the Good Shepherd officiating. Haven, 81, a former Grant County resident, passed away at San Gabriel Mission Lodge Nursing Home in California. The managing editor of the Los Angeles Times for more than 14 years, Mr. Haven first worked as an assistant steamfitter at Nevada Consolidated Copper Co. in Hurley. He was born in Buffalo, N.Y. Mr. Haven began his newspaper career in 1930 at the San Diego Sun. He later worked for the San Diego Union-Tribune Publishing Co. before joining The Times, serving with the paper for 37 years, after starting as a $9-per-day copy editor in 1941. He was named managing editor Dec. 1, 1963. Survivors include a daughter, Susan Axarlis of Melbourne, Australia; two stepdaughters, Jody Richards of Nyack, N.Y. and Susan Burd of Jefferson, Md.; and twelve grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Porterfield Haven. A memorial serice will be held at a later date. Havener: Patrick Havener, 15, and Roxann Havener, 13, of Liberty Hill, Texas, died as a result of an auto accident in Liberty Hill. They are the children of John and Tami Havener of Liberty Hill. Patrick Havener was born May 27, 1979 in Longview, Texas and died March 16 in Liberty Hill. He was an active high school student, participating in basketball. He was listed in Who's Who in American High Schools, was a member of the Junior Honor Society and was an avid baseball card collector. He was a member of the First Methodist Church in Liberty Hill and active in church activities. He was a born-again Christian. Roxann Havener was born Aug. 17, 1981 in Gilmer, Texas and died March 17 in Austin. She was an active eighth-grade student, participating in basketball, volleyball, softball and track. She was a member of the Girl Scouts and the Honor Society. She, too, was a member of the First Methodist Church and active in church youth activities. She was a born-again Christian. Mrs. Havens was preceded in death by her father, in 1995. Mrs. Havens was active with the Girl Scouts and served as leader from 1966-70. She was president of the Centennial Extension Club in 1970-71; and she was state president of New Mexico Extension Homemakers from 1984-86. In 1986, she was nominated as one of 30 finalists for the first Governors Award for outstanding women of New Mexico. She was president of the Silver City Woman's Club in 1988-89, and was a trustee of the First Presbyterian Church in 1983, 1984 'and 1985, and a deacon in 1976, 1977 and 1978. Hawk, well known craftsman and artist, were held in the chapel of Curtis Bright Funeral Home Friday, AprIl 15. Hawk, 66, died at his home in’ Sliver City after a long bout with cancer. Brother Cliff Hutchins officiated at the services. Hawk’s grandparents, Bud and Martha Ellen Watkins,’ came to this area from Lakey, Texas In 1884 when they were 15 and. 13 years old. They had five sons, Lee, Boot, Buster, James and Thadeus, and three daugthers, Mae, Viola and Laura. The Thomas Hawk family came to Grant County after 1900, and eventually ‘moved to the Safford Valley in Arizona. Carl was the oldest son of the late Axle and Viola Hawk. His brother, Wayne, preceeded him in death in 1977. Carl was born at the famous Cottage Sanitorium when it was at its peak. A few months before Carl’s’ birth, Pancho Villa raided Columbus. His aunt, Maude Hawk Wright was living on a small ranch near the Mexican border. Villa killed her young husband, and sent their baby son into Mexico. He was later recovered. Because of his parents divorce, Carl and his brother spent most of their. time living with thei grandparents and aunts and uncles at Mulecreek. His interest in art started in the first grade and from then he was drawing pictures on anything, he could find. Carl lived with his ,aunt, ‘Laura Harke’ in , Silver City to attend high school. On graduation he was awarded a very large art scholarship for those days, in an out of state college. Money was just not available for the extra expenses, so he could not accept the scholarship and started learning other skills. Through Carl’s 46 years of labor he became a mechanic, butane gas plumber, tiner and an expert welder. His paintings and drawings were done by weekends and moonlight, whenever there was a demand for his talent. In 1967 Carl, and his wife, ,Gerry, established Hawk s Roost, a collector’s shop and art gallery combinati6n.. His’ last employment was with the Town of Silver City’ as ‘a welder. He belonged to the Grant County Art Guild and was a member of the Indian Hills Baptist Church. After being disabled’ with extensive oral cancer in 1979 he worked entirely on his art creations. He had a rare talent of seeing the pictures in his mind, and drew and painted these. He was tired of cômmercial assignment work and decided to concentrate solely on what he wanted to do. His family baèkground and former ranch experiences ‘were more than enough to Keep him busy busy creating.. He portrayed the Southwest in its many phases of life. The last four years of his life his, work was so readily accepted by buyers of Western’ Realism that, he had a hard time keeping the walls covered at Hawks Roost. Through the years Carl won many honors and ribbons, but he considered the viewing by the public his most important critics, Hawk had 22 magazine and book covers to his credit, includiñg five covers for collections of Enterprise old records. Mr. Heyne’s death came as a distinct shock to the whole cornmmunity He was a very popular member of the Lyons club. Mr Heyne held a doctorate degree in Chemistry, was born in Germany, and came to this country at an early age. He was associated for many years with the petrolium industry as a petrolium chemist. MR and Mrs Heynes had made their home in Mogollon where he was the purchasing agent for the Black Hawk Mine. He and Mrs Hayne had just returned from San fransisco Lyons club convention and he made a report on the convention to the Bayard members. She grew up there and also attended nursing school in Jackson County. She worked as a nurse during World War II. She was in California at the naval ammunition dump, working for the Civil Service Naval Ordnance, at the time she met Kenneth Hazard. They were both widowed then, each having two children from their previous ~marriages. Shortly after the war ended, the couple married and soon after had two children together. The children of Mr. and Mrs. Hazard are John Arnold and is wife, Frances, of Darington, Wash., Kenneth Hazard of Lordsburg, Ben Hazard of New Town, S.D., Vivalene Rankin and her husband, Ron, of Lacross, Fwash., Elaine Hazard of Calavaris County, Calif., and Laura Wright of San Marhcos, Calif. Serving as probate judge, he won deserved recognition as a capable and conscientious public official in this office. Also he served for some years as a member of the Grant County Selective Service Board in which he also made a record for efficiency. He served in the South Pacific as a chief petty officer in the Medical Corps in the United States Navy during World War II. He married Nora Sanders Hrna on Jan. 10, 1981 in Lordsburg. Mr. Heather was a former mayor of Lordsburg and for 25 years served as secretary for the New Mexico State Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors. He was a 25-year member of the Lordsburg school board and worked for 30 years as a State Farm insurance agent. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Shriners and the Elks Lodge. A longtime resident of Silver City, she was a homemaker, and past president of the BusIness and Professional Women organization. Mrs. Hedges is survived by Richani Hedges, her husband of 62 years; two daughters, Deanna Euhanks of L~s Cruces and`Carole Burger of Seatle' Wash.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Heeley 66, state highway engineer’ from December of 1943 to October of 1946 died today in an Albuquerque hospital. He was a resident of Santa Rita for four years prior to serving, as state highway engineer he was the assistant highway engineer After October of 1946, he was urban engineer for the department. He retired in May of this year. Funeral arrangements are pending. After a long illness, Mrs. Dora E. Heesch, 59, wife of D. Heesch of the Shoe Hospital, died Thuesday night at the family home on the Pinos Altos highway. Besides her husband, survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Oscar Lusehei, Silver City, and Mrs. Price Street Horton Tex; a brother, Cart Rohweder, Davenport, Ia, and three grandchildren. Heesch: Detlief Heesch, 83, died Nov. 25 following a long illness. He was a native of Germany coming to this country in 1913 and residing in California. He then moved to Clifton, Ariz. and from there to Silver City. His business was located on Bullard Street "The Show Hospital". He is survived by his widow the formed Elizabeth Kuester from Berlin Germany, two daughters: Mrs. Margaret Luschesie and Mrs. Anna Louise Street and grandchildren. Heflin, a former resident of Silver City, died the past week at the Veterans Hospital in Temple, Texas. Funeral services and burial took place in Tucson. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Alta Heflin; a daughter, Mrs. Hank Egbert and a granddaughter, Helen Egbert. Hegeman: John P. Hegeman, 82, died July 16 at Resthaven Nursing Home. Mr. Hegeman was a native of Hoosick Falls, M.Y. and had lived in Silver City eight years. He is survived by his wife, Letitia of Silver City; one daughter, Mrs. Louis Selders of Arenas Valley; one son, Rovert of Trumbull Connecticut; and four grandchildren. Harry Heiber, 86, if Lordsburg, died Aug. 27 at . Hillcrest Hospital. Services are pending, with local arrangements by the Curtis-Bright Funeral Home. Hein: Wilbert R. Hein, 78, of Silver City, died of cancer at his residence after an extended illness. Mr. Hein was born March 29, 1909, in Ada, Minn. He grew up in Menomonie, Wis., graduated from Stout University and taught in Wisconsin before coming to Silver City where he taught in the high school and at Western New Mexico University from 1948 to 1967. He owned the Silver City Testing Lab and did assay work from 1967 until 1985. Survivors are his wife, Lois Hein of Silver City; a daughter, Vicky Sherwood, also of Silver City; two brothers, Arthur and Alvern Hein, both of Menomonie; a sister, Hazel Anderson of St. Paul. Minn.; four stepchildren, Sally Knight, Ronald Knight, Larry Knight and Connie Walsh; two grandchildren, Brian and Christopher Shewood of Silver City; and four stepgrandchildren, Lindsey Knight, Cameron Knight, Amy Walsh and Erik Walsh. HEINRICH: Charles Douglas Heinrich, 37, of El Paso TX passed away at Fort Bayard Medical Center Thursday. He is survived by his wife Marjorie Heath Williams, and many others. Heisick: Craig Heisick, 15, of Silver City, died at Providence Memorial Hospital in El Paso Friday, Sept. 20. Heisick had been hospitalized since Sept. 13 as a result of injuries received in a car-bus accident 2 miles south of Silver City on NM Hwy 90. Heisick had remained in the intensive care unit at Providence since his admittance. His death was a result of mutiple injuries resulting from the mishap. Death on Monday at her home in Silver city summoned Mrs Lottie L Helms, 83, a resident of Silver city for 38 years. Survivors are a daughter Mrs Lucille townsend, two sisters and a brother. Funeral services were held at 3pm Wednesday at the Curtis mortuary chapel conducted by the Rev Joseph Sherman of the Church of Crist. Burial was in the Silver city cemetery. Georgia A. Helton, 86, of Hurley, died Monday, May 2 in Hillcrest General. Hospital after a sort iillness. She was born Sept. 3, 1896 in Hermosa NM, the daughter of James and Loucinda Whitmore Smith and was ‘a lifelong resident of Grant County. Mrs. Helton was a member of the Hanover Church of Christ. She is survived by one son, George M. Helton of Bayard: one daughter, Mary ‘Sally’ Wakefield of ‘Hurley: 10 grandchildren and 22 great- grandchildren. Helton: James "Jim" Charles Helton,77, of Bayared entered into rest Saturday at the home of his daughter in Silver City following an extended illness. He was born Nov. 1, 1916, to Charles V. and Frannie Agnes (Smith) Helton in Hermosa, moving with his family to Santa Rita when he was 8 years old. He married Margret I. Walker on Dec. 24, 1935, in Hillsboro and they had three children. Mr. Helton served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired from Chino Mines at Santa Rita in 1982 after more than 30 years of service as a heavy-equipment operator. Mr. Helton loved the mountains and enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing. He was a Christian and a member of the First Baptist Church of Bayard. Mr. Helton is survived by his wife Margret Helton, of the family home; a son, James W. Helton, and his wife, Sandra, of Las Vegas, Nev.; a daughter, Norma Jean Dominguez, and her husband, Placido, of Silver City; two granddaughters, Gaylyn West and her son, Johnathan, of Las Vegas and Joy Martin and her husband, John, and thier children, Rebecca, Sean, and Meghan of Henderson, Nev.; a grandson James H. Barela, and his wife, LeAne, and thier sons, Jacob and Aaron; a brother, Lee V. Helton, and his wife, Leah, of Dolen Springs, Nev.; a sister, Louise Murrary of Modesto, Calif.; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Helton: Joyce Dennis "Bunch" Helton, 71, beloved wife of George "Toodles" Helton, passed away Sunday morning at Gila Regional Medical Center. She was born Sept. 9, 1924 to William Edward and Myrtle Asle (Trantham) Dennis in Platter, Okla. Her family moved to Grant County in 1930. She attended elementary school in Cliff and Silver City and went on to attend Western High School. She married her husband of 53 years,George "Toodles" Helton, on June 23, 1942 in Silver City. She loved to dance and for many years was a member of the Silver City Square Dance Club. Other favorite pastimes included fishing, crocheting, sewing and listening to country-western music. However, what she ejoyed most was spending time with her family and talking with her sister, Billy Jean Williamson. She and her husband enjoyed traveling to Utah and Texas to visit with their children and grandchildren. If she wasnot visiting with them, she was calling them. She loved being part of their active lives, attending their sporting events and rodeo performances. She is survived by her husband, George "Toodles" Helton of Bayard; a daughter, Joyce "Joy" Helton Acosta and her husband, Skip, of Bountiful, Utah; a son, Robert Wayne Helton and his wife, Judy of Angleton, Texas; and a sister, Billy Jean Williamson, and her husband, R.M. "Bob" Wiliamson of Bayard. Henderson, 67, a veteran of World War I, died February 10 at the Fort Bayard Veterans hospital. Surviving Is a daughter, Mrs. Dan Hillerman, Miami, Ariz.; a son, Clifton Henderson, of Texas, and a brother, James Henderson of CA. Burial took place in the Fort Bayard cemetery. Henderson: Bruce Conrad Henderson, 19, died Sunday at his home in Silver City. He was born Nov. 9, 1973, in Silver City. He is survived by his mother, Reina "Tina" Rippa, and her husband, Paul D. Rippa, of Silver City; his father, Cyrus B. Henderson, and his wife, Karen, of El Paso, Texas; his brothers, Matthew G. Hnderson and David W. Henderson; and a stepbrother, David P. Lange. He is also survived by his maternal grandparents, Richard and Jean Graham, and his paternal grandmother, Jean W. Henderson, all of Silver City; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews who were touched by his life. Mr. Henderson was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, the Rev. Clifton M. Henderson. Bruce was one who always stood out and he will be missed by family and friends alike. He was a best friend to more than one of us. He was always active and involved in numerous projects, including drafting, art, poetry, guitar, and model design. He was also a full-time student at Western New Mexico University and worked part time. He will be remembered for his inspiration shared with many,his kindness with all and his efforts with whoever needed them. He was always a good hand and a man to ride the river with. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, March 3, at 4:30 p.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd with the Rev. Robert Ihlefeld officiating.
