Eakin: Garland D. Eakin, 70, a Cliff resident, died Friday in Albuquerque. He was born May 22, 1922, in Silver City, the oldest son of Lum H. Eakin and Viola Shelley Eakin. Memorial services will be Tuesday at 11 a. m. at Mountain View Assembly of God Church in Cliff with the Rev. Tom Carver officiating. He is survived by two sisters, Elta Gwyn Eakin Anderson of Woods Cross, Utah, and Floritta Eakin Allred of San Lius Obispo, Calif; and a brother, Jolye D. Eakin of Belen.

Eakin: Mary Francis Eakin, 60, of Cliff entered eternal rest Thursday at Gila Regional Medical Center. She was born Aug. 24, 1934, in Dalhart, Okla., to Edward L. and Christina Salge Shirley. She moved to Cliff from Belen two years ago along with her husband of 42 years, Jolye D. Eakin. She was a bookkeeper and a member ofthe Cliff Community Christian Fellowship. She is survived by her husband, Jolye D. Eakin of the home; her sons, Darrell Eakin and his wife, Julie, of Belen, and Ronnie Eakin and his wife, Virginia Arline, of Mansfield, Texas; her daughters, Lynnola Donnel of Cliff and Billy Donnel of Silver City; and her grandchildren, Ronnie and Donnie Donnel, and Mari Lee, Joshua, Christopher, Jessica, Lea, Amy and Kadie Eakin. She is also survived by her father, Edward L. Shirley of Delhart, Texas; her mother, Martha C. Slage of Cedar City, Utah; her three brothers, Lewis Wyne Shirley of Georgia, Clifford Kirkham of Ohio and Jerry Kirkham of Arizona;and two sisters, Jackie Davis of Cedar City and Glenda Jay Whitehurst of Delhart. She was preceded in death by her son, Doug Eakin. At the family's request, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 1 p. m. today at the First Baptist Church of Silver City with Pastor Tom Carver officiating. Entrusted to the care of Baca's Funeral Chapels and Mimbres Crematorium.

Eakin: Mrs. Viola Idabelle Shelley Eakin, 75, died Friday evening, November 3, at the Fort Bayard Medical Center. Mrs. Eakin was born at Cliff, June 17, 1903, the daughter of Tom and Hattie Shelley. She was married in 1921 to Lum H. Eakin who preceded herin death in 1967. The deceased lived most of her life in Cliff and Socorro and for the past ten years lived at Cliff. She was residing in Socorro in 1968 at the time of the Big Flood there. She was a member of the Cliff Presbyterian Church, Women's Auxiliary of the VFW and American Legion, Home Extension Club, Farm Bureau and the Over Fifty Club. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Elta Gwyn Anderson of Woods Cross, Utah, Mrs. Floritta Allred of San Luis Obispo, Calif. two sons, Garland D. Eakin of Cliff, Jolye Eakin of Belen, 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Survivors also include a sister, Mrs. Lucy Hooker of Red Rock and a brother, Worthington Shelley of Cliff. Mrs Eakin laid-in-state from 3 p. m. until 6 p. m. yesterday at Curtis-Bright Funeral Home and from 1 p. m. until 2 p. m. today at the Cliff Presbyterian Church. Funeral services will be at 2 p. m. today, Thursday, at the Church with Tev. Ralph Hensley officiating Burial will follow in the Mesa Cemetery in Gila. Serving as pallbearers will be Mrs. Eakin's grandsons, Coyne Allred, Ronnie L. Eakin, Fred Shelley Anderson, Arden Allred, Randy Eakin and Billy Donnel. Among those from out of town who were here for the services are Randy Eakin, Dallas, Darlene Kulseth and children, Lum Ella Land and children, Olympia, Wash. Coyne Allred, San Luis Obispo, Joy Wideuf, Lake Arrowhead, Calif., and Fred Shelley Anderson, Woods Cross, Utah.

Sam Eakin Sr, 71, a forrner pioneer rancher of Grant County of the Upper Gila area, died last Thursday In a Mesa, Arizona, hospital of injuries received in a traffic accident. In recent years he had resided in Arizona. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Burley Eakin of Mesa; two sons, William C. Eakin, Apache Junction and Sam Eakin, Jr., Morenci; daughter, Mrs. Stalls Ripley, Morrison, Okla.; two brothers, Lum Eakin, Socorro and Champ Eakin, Apache Junction, Arizona. Graveside burial services were held Sunday at 3 p. m. in the Oils Mesa cemetery. The committal rites were conducted by the Rev. Kenneth Ford, of the First Methodist Church. Burial was under direction of the Curtis Mortuary.
Eakins; Euene Gilbert Eakins, 66, resident of Columbus died at the Veterans Medical Center in Albuquerque. He was born May 13, 1918 in Eddyville, Iowa and was an Army veteran of World War II. He had been a farmer prior to his retirement and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Oskaloosa, Iowa and the Disabled American Veterans. In November of 1976 he moved to Columbus and belonged to the American Legion Post No. 1916 there. Funeral services were held at Baca's Wheeler Funeral Chapel. Rev. Jerrold Lawson, Pastor of the Emmanuel Baptist Church officiated. Interment followed at the Fort Bayard National Cemetery with Chaplin David Strain conducting the graveside service. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Eakins of the home: five sons, Everett E. Eakins, Hahira, Geo., Jack Lee Eakins, Oskaloosa, Iowa, Steven H. Eakins, Grinell, Iowa, Michael H. Eakins, Grinnell, Iowa, Douglas G. Eakins, Columbus: one daughter, Linda Lou Alderman, Ridgeland, SC: two brothers, Hershall Eakins, Ogden, Utah and Ralph Eakins, Eddyville, Iowa: eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A son, Charles G. Eakins preceded him in death in 1957. Baca's Wheeler Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

EARNEY: Sallye Kelly Earncy, 80, of Las Cruces, formerly of Lordsburg, was born July 8, 1916, In Hardeman County, Tenn. and passed away Friday at Las Cruces Nursing Center. She married William Lincoln Barney on July 6, 1940. He preceded her in death in 1965. They lived in Tennessee until 1955 when they moved their family to Lordsburg. Mrs. Barney taught second grade in the Lordsburg Public Schools until her retirement in 1980. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma1 She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lords-burg and was actively involved in th~ Lordsburg/Hidalgo County Senior Citizens Center, New Mex ico Retired Teachers, American Association of Retired Persons and many local organizations, having served on several executive boards, She is survived by her son, George Thomas Earney Sr., and his wife, LaVon, of San Jose, Calif. her daughter, Nancy Fairchild, and her husband, Les, of Las Cruces; and two stepsons, William L. Barney Jr. of Jackson, Tenn., and Jerry Barney of Louisville, Ky., and their wives and children. She also leaves four grandchildren, George Thomas Barney Jr. of San Andreas, Calif., Shanaja Earney of San Leandro, Calif., Kelley Powless and her husband, Jeffrey, of Decatur, Mich., and Kimberly Fairchild of Shelby Township, Mich.; and one great-granddaughter, Melissa Earney of San Andreas. She is also survived by a brother, George M. Kelley. and his wife, Ann, of Bolivar, Term,, and his chi1dr~n and their families, At Mrs. Earney's request, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 1 p. m. Tuesday in the First United Methodist Church, Third and High streets in Lordsburg, with Pastor Kevin Phillips officiating. Inurnment of cremains will take place at a later date. Entrusted to the care of Baca's Funeral.

EAST: Christine Yvonne Csako East, 89, of San Antonio, Texas, died Oct. 14. She was 5orn Dec. 24, 1908, near Corsciana, Texas, and graduated from high school in Ennis, Texas. She graduated from Mary 1-lardin Baylor College in Belton, Texas, in 1931, and did graduate work at several institutions. She was a county home demonstration agent in Texas. She married Alton M. East in 1938 and they ranched in New Mexico for many years. She taught school for 28 years, and was president of the Glenwood Woman's Club for three years. She was a member of the Association of University Women, Business and Professional Women's Organization, MacDowell Music Club, and Beta Sigma Phi (of which she was president for two years and director for 10 years). She served on the Kendall County Child Welfare Board and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Boerne, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband; tour brothers, Will, Joe, John and Frank Nagy; and two sisters, Mary Avant and Annie Adams. She is survived by brother, Louis Nagy; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Funeral services were held Wednesday in Las Cruces. for Ben EastIy former well-known Silver City resident who Died Saturday at the veteran's administration hospitalin Albuquerque. The deceased was a veteran of World War I He came to Silver Citya health seeker and became affiliated with various business interests. lie was a member of AF I. & AM Lodge No. 8. After 1eaving Silver City he resided in Las Cruces. Survivors are his widow and two children.

EASTERWOOD: Elizabeth P. Easterwood, died Thursday afternoon in Silver City. Mrs. Easter-wood was born in Texas and was a lifelong resident of Grant County. She is survived by two step-daughters, Esther Ferrell of Bayard and Pricilla Chaires of Las Cruces; two stepsons-in-law. Joe Ferrell of Bayard and Armondo Chaires of Las Cruces; ten step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 10 a. m: Monday to Memory Lane Cemetery with the Rev. Tomas Perci officiating. Pallbearers will he Mark Medina, Joe Ferrell, Flemente Leyba, Sal Iturralde, Robert Iturralde, Norman Arrelano and Abel Misquez. Arrangements are by the Wheeler Funeral Dome of Silver City.

Easterwood; Alice (Licha) Fisher Easterwood, 58, died Monday evening at her residence in Silver City and was a lifelong resident of Grant County. She was a communicant of the Catholic Church and had been employed at the Western New Mexico University cafeteria for 14 years. Mrs. Easterwood is survived by two daughters, Esther Ferrell of Bayard and Priscilla Chaires of Las Cruces; three sisters, Evelyn Arellano, Sadie Ituralde and Eva Alvarado all of Silver City; two brothers, Benjamin Fisher of San Francisco, Calif. and Robert Lee Fisher of Riverside, Calif.; 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son Edward Easterwood III in 1980 and two daughters, Margie Rodriguez in 1968 and Gloria Fisher at one year old. Rosary recitation was held Jan. 11 and Mass of the Resurrection was held Jan. 12. Both services were held at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Bayard with Father Tomas Perez officiating. Interment followed at the Silver City Catholic Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Armando Chaires Jr., Mark Medina, Norman Arellano, George Arellano, Robert Ituralde and Salvador Ituralde. Arrangements are by the Wheeler Funeral Home of Silver City.

Easterwood: Edwin "Gene" Easterwood Jr. 59, died Sept. 3 in Hurley. Mr. Easterwood was born July 31 in Lubbock, Texas. He was the son of Eugene E. and Ela Proser Easterwood and resided in Grant County. Mr. Easterwood spent two years in the Navy during World War II and is a veteran of foreign wars. He attended three semesters at New Mexico Western College and 250 hours of machinist courses at New Mexico State Teachers College. He is survived by his mother, Ela P. Easterwood of Hurley; two step-daughters, Esther Farell of Bayard and Pricilla Chaiers of Dona Ana, N. M.; ten step-grandchildren and four great step-children. Mr. Easterwood was preceded in death by his son, Edward Easterwood in 1979. Services were held Wednesday, Sept. 8 in the Curtis-Bright Funeral Home Chapel under the direction of the Rev. Johnathon Foster of the First United Methodist Church of Bayard. Silver City American Legion, Allingham-Golding Post No. 18, conducted military services at Memory Lane Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were: Oscar Bates, Delbert Harbor, Howard Miller, Julio Polanco, Manuel Leyba and Don Oliver. Serving as honorary pallbearers were: Jack Frost, Howard Greenwood and Rito Rodriguez. Arrangements by Curtis-Bright Funeral Home.

Graveside services were conducted this past week by the Rev. James Wayes at the Methodist church in Memory Lane cemetery for Frank William Eaton, 62, who' died at Hillcrest Hospital. He was a native of Silver City and had lived here all of his life. Survivors of the deceased include four brothers, Theodore, Joseph, and Henery Eaton, all of Sliver City, and Merle Eaton of 'Washington, D. C.; and four sisters, Mrs Benton Fisher Dottie Eaton, Mrs Isabelle Eaton, all of Silver city and Mrs Helen Molyneux of Pueblo Co.

Jesse Harold Eaton, 75, of Gila Wednesday, March 30 in Fort Bayard Medical Center. He was born Nov. 18, 1907 in Cleveland, the son of Thomas, and Anna 'Carolina Mau Eaton, and had resided in the,'Gila area since 1946. Eaton was employed as a power plant operator for Kennecott for over 12 years retiring in 1966. He attended the Trinity. Presbyterian Church in Gila, was a member of the Tyrone 'Masonic Lodge. No. 52, was a veteran of World War 11, U. S. Navy. Mr. Eaton is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Marques Eaton, of Gila: one son. Robert Eaton,' of Salt Lake City, two grandchildren, Heidi Vail Eaton and Joshua Ladd Eaton of Salt Lake City: one brother, Neal Eaton, of Cleveland, services were held at 2pm on Friday, April 1 in the Trinity Presbyterian church in Gila under the direction of the Rev. David Gable, Graveside services followed in the Gila-Mesa Cemetery under the direction of the Tyrone Masonic Lodge. Serving as active pallbearers were Vernon Shelley,' Robert Shelley; Marijildo Placencia, Jerry Woodrow, Fred Little, Sieve Villarreal. Honorary pallbearers were Earl Hathorn, JB. Horn, Carl Rice, Fred Foster~ Orville Little, Keith Vanlaningham, Chester Williams, George Jackson 'and Frank Drummond. The family requests that friends who wish can contribute to the fort Bayard Medical center. Arrangements by Curtis-Bright.

Larry Eaton, 25, son of Mr and Mrs Tom Eaton died in Las Vegas Monday. The family attended funeral services in Las Vegas Tuesday.
Mrs Clara Eaton,65,a retired registered nurse, of Silver City, died Saturday evening in Hillcrest General Hospital. She wasa widow of George B Eaton and had resided in Grant County for the past 34 years. Mrs. Eaton was a member of the local Registered Nurses Association a member of St. Vincent Guild; and a member of the National Retired Civil Service Employees Association. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Sylvia Marsh of Silver City; two grandchildren; two brothers, Frank Dechant of 'Denver, Colo., and Joseph Dechant of,Hays, Kan.; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Kaberlein and Mrs. Pauline Hass, of Hays, Kan. Rosary was said at 7:30 p. m. in the chapel of the Curtis Mortuary and the funeral Mass was at 10 a. m., Wednesday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. James Milano officipting. Burial' was in the Masonic cemetery.

Eaton: Arthur Joseph Eaton, 66, died Sun., Oct. 5, at his residence in Silver City. Mr. Eaton was lifelong resident of Silver City and a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. He is survived by four sisters, Isabel Eaton, Dottie Eaton, Mrs. Mary Fisher, all of Silver City, Mrs. Helen Molyneux of Pueblo, Colo., and a brother, Merle Eaton of Indianhead, Md. Rosary recitation was at 8 p. m., Wed. Oct. 11 in the Curtis-Bright Funeral Chapel. Mass of the Resurrection was at 9:30 a. m., Thurs. Oct. 12 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Monsignor A. James Milano conducting both services. Burial will follow in the Catholic Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Eusevio Abeyta, Ramon Garcia, Jim Gonzalez, Edward Holguin, John Flores and Adolpho Zapata.

EATON: Dottie Eaton, 77, a lifelong resident of Silver City passed away Monday at Fort Bayard Medical Center. She was, born Dec. 23, 1916, to William and Ida May (Potter) Eaton in Silver City. She is survived by a sister, Helen Molynoux of Pueblo, Colo., and four nieces. Visitation will begin at 10 a. m. Thursday in the Curtis Bright Funeral Home chapel. A graveside Service will follow at 2p. m. Thursday at Memory Lane Cemetery with the Rev. Claude Perheajth officiating. Family members selected Curtis. Bright Funeral Home to serve them.
Funeral services were held on Saturday at the Curtis Mortuary Chapel for Bert C. Eaves, 86, a longtime resident of Bayard. The service was conducted by t h e 'Rev. B. J. Foster, pastor of the Bayard Baptist Church. Interment was made in Memory Lane Cemetery. Survivors include a,daughter, Mrs. Gladys Hunter, Bayard; a son, Alva L. EAVES: Carrie H. Eaves 78, of Silver City passed away Wednesday at her residence. Graveside funeral services were Conducted this morning at Fort Bayard National Cemetery. Mrs. Eaves' son-in-law, Pat Middlebrook, officiated at the service. Mrs. Eaves was born Oct. 1, 1918, in Carlisle, Ky. She was the daughter of Edward Howard and Callie Mynear Howard. She was the widow of Raymond C. Eaves. She is survived by three children, a daughter, Bonnie Lerman of Silver City, and two Sons, Gary Hall of San Diego, and Denver Hall of Covington, Ky. She is also survived by six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. The family has requested, in lieu of flowers, donations to'the Gila Regional Hospice, 2596 N. Silver St., Silver City, NM 88061. Bright Funeral Home had charge of funeral arrangements.

Eaves: Raymond C. Eaves, 71, of Silver City, passed away at his home Sunday. He is survived by his wife, Carrie Howard Eaves; four sons, William and Dennis Eaves and Denver Hall of Kentucky, and Gary Hall of Silver City; two daughters, Linda Moore of Kentucky and Bonnie Lerma of Silver City; and two sisters, Eileen Wright and Anna Bethel, both of Kentucky. Viewing was held this morning in the chapel of Curtis-Bright Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 2 p. m. at Fort Bayard National Cemetery. Family members selected Curtis-Bright Funeral Home to serve them.

Ebbley; Mrs. Dorothy L. Ebbley died at her home near Reserve, NM, on February 8, 1984. She was born April 10, 1904. Mrs. Ebbley is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Corley Ross Watson of Gunnison, CO, one son, Dr. Frank R. Ross of Safford, AZ and one brother, Mr. Paul Chapin Skeels; seven grandchildren and ten great grandsons. Graveside services were held at the Memorial Center of the Ft. Bayard National Cemetery at 3:00 P. M. Friday afternoon, February 10, 1984, with Chaplain David Strain in charge of services. The American Legion Allingham-Golding Post No. 18 will officiate with full military honors and will act as pallbearers. Instead of flowers you may contribute to your favorite charity. Ebeling: Gussie G. Ebeling, 75, died Thursday in Ft. Bayard Medical Center. Mrs. Ebeling was born in Texas and had been a resident of Central for nine years, where she was a member of the Women's Missionary Union and the First Baptist Church of Bayard. She is survived by her daughter, Jessie Higgins of Central, two brothers, Claude Harris of Goldthwaite, Texas, Leon Harris of Lake Victor, Texas, one granddaughter and two great-granddaughters. Funeral services were held Monday, May 5, in the Curtis-Bright Chapel with Reverend Bill Miller officiating. Burial followed in Memory Lane Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Milford Parker, Tom Williams, Elzie Avent, Manuel Gutierrez, Charles Evins and John Rader. Honorary pallbearers were Howard Greenwood, J. J. Cook and James Lett.

Mrs. Thomas Eby, 67, a lifetime resident of Grant County. died Tuesday in El Paso. Survivors include two sons,, Leedro Eby of Faywood and R Eby of Faywood: one daughter Mrs. Ruth Martin, Santa Rita: two grandsons, James arid Thomas Martin; four brothers, J. S. Mitchel, Mimbre's, Cap Mitchel, San Lorenzo, Frank Mitchel, Globe, Ariz., añd William Mitchel. California: five sisters; Mrs. G. A. Johnson. Arenas Valley, Mrs. Mary Eddleman. Bayard, 0. J. Dougan. Santa Rita, Mrs. R. H Moore, Hurley and Carrie Dodson, Bayard. Funeral services will be held today at the Mahoney Mortuary in Deming today at 2 p. m. Eby: One of the venerable pioneers of Grant County, Sim Eby, 91 retired rancher of the Mimbres, died the past week in Gardenia, Calif. He was the oldest member of the Eby family of several generations. Rosary services were held Wednesday evening at the Mahoney Mortuary in Deming, followed by mass this morning at Dwyer, where burial took place. Surviving are three sister, Mrs. Jake Mitchell, Bayard; Mrs. Clara Wasson, Las Cruces and Mrs. Janie Chavez, Gardenia, Calif., and nieces and nephews, including Ledro and Rex Eby, Dwyer and Mrs. Ruth Martin, Santa Rita.

ECHIRIBEL: Leopold M Echiribel, 55, of Santa Clara, a former resident of Venice, Calif., passed away at Gila Regional Medical Center on Monday. The vigil service will be held this evening at 7 at Bright Funeral Home with the Santa Clara Rosary Group officiating. Mass of resurrection will he celebrated at the Santa Clara Roman Catholic Community Church on Thursday at 9 a. m. with Father Mike Lindsay officiating. Internment will be at Fort Bayard National Cemetery with military honors. Mr. Echiribel was born in Douglas, Ariz., on Oct. 28, 1941. He was the son of the late Francisco R. Echiribel and isabel Martinez Echiribel. He is survived by two daughters, Denicia Echiribel and Melissa Echiribel of Venice; four sisters, Martha Cuhen of Santa Clara, Dora Bencomo and husband, Joseph, of Venice, Delores Hardy of Tempe, Ariz., and Christina Valdez of Douglas, Ariz.; five brothers, Sal Echiribel and wife, Rosa, of Douglas, Francisco Echiribel of Tempe, Martin Echiribel of Culver City, Calif., Rito Echiribel and wife, Alice, of Oxnard, Calif, and Tony Echiribel and wife, Ramona, of Oxnard; one aunt, Manuela Martinez of Tucson, Ariz.; his former wife, Gloria Escarrega; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Miguel 'Mickey" Fichiribel, in 1969, and one sister, Julia Talavera, in 1977. Mr. Echiribel served in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a civil service employee for 16 years after he was discharged from the Army. Bright Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Eckard: E. William Eckard, 69, of Silver City, died Wednesday at William Beaumont Hospital in El Paso, Texas. He was a retired Navy lieutenant junior grade. He is survived by his wife, Jean Eckard. Private services and cremation are pending in El Paso.

ECKER: Hetty Poole Ecker, 93, passed away Monday in Silver City. She had been a resident of Cliff for a year and a half. She had been a school teacher for most of her life. She is survived by two great-nieces Edith Allison of Cliff, and Jana Boley of Bosque Farms; a great-nephew, Daniel P. Grover C. Eckert, a former resident of Pinos Altos, and who for many years lived at Hurley, died of a heart attack Sunday while enroute to Lordsburg, his home since retirement, as a longtime employee of Chino Mines. With Mrs. Eckert, he had been on a weekend visit to Pinos Altos. On the drive to Lordsburg, the Eckerts stopped at White Signal when, without warning he suffered the fatal attack. Mr. Eckert was well known in mining circles in the Silver City area. He spent 14 years in South America with the American Smelting & Refining Co. Funeral services were held today at the Heather Mortuary in Lordsburg, followed by burial in Tucson, with Masonic graveside services. Surviving are his wife, Mabel; a sister, Mrs. Sally Harris, La Jolla, Calif., and a brother, John B. Eckert Santa Rita.

Eckert: Jean Alice Eckert, age 84, died August 15 at Ft. Bayard Medical Center. She is survived by one son, Mr. Vistor L. Graham of Las Cruces, one sister, Mrs. Callie Bell Jones of Trinidad, Colorado and one brother Mr. Gus O. Lewis of Hanover. Three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She had been a long time resident of Grant County. Private graveside services were held Monday, Aug. 20, at 1 p. m. at Memory Lane Cemetery.

Eckert: Funeral services were held last Saturday at 3 p. m. at the Cox Morturay chapel for John B. Eckert, retired employee of Chino Mines Division, Kennecott Copper Corp. at Santa Rita, who died of a heart attack the day after his 65th birthday and retirement. Mr. Eckert came to Grant County with his parents in 1900. the family settled in Pinos Altos where his father was engaged in mining for many years. A veteran of World War I, Mr. Eckert had lived in the mining area for 57 years where he was from sin, sickness, and death. "well known". Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Jean Eckert; a daughter, Mrs. E. E. Wilson of Oak Harbor, Wash.; granddaughter, Cecily Wilson; a sister, Mrs. Sally Harris, La Jolla, Calif., all of who attended the last rites, conducted by the Rev. Cled Wimbishof the Hanover Church of Christ. Interment, was in the Silver City cemetery, with Military burial honors by V. F. W. Post 3347 Bayard. Casket bearers were Ralph McDonald, Tom Lottritz, J. L. McCroney, William Schadel, Frank Ramsey, and A. E. Kern Honorary casket bearers were Clyde Ely,. Sr. O. R. Moore, Paul R. Gantz, Wesley Martin, Will Martin, Ed. Martin, Joe KImble and Walter Oglesby.


Eckery: John H. Eckery, 72, suffered a fatal heart attack in Salmon, Idaho last Tuesday. Mr. Eckery was a former resident of Silver City and left here about 13 years ago. He was a native of Morse Bluff, Neb., and was a retired government employee. Survivors include his wife Ruby of Salmon, Idaho; three brothers, Joseph M. of Ogden, Utah, Charles E. of San Diego, Calif.; and a sister in-law, Mrs. Fred Parrish of Silver City. Funeral services were held in the Curtis-Bright Chapel at 10:30 a. m. Friday, with the interment following in Memory Lane Cemetery. The Rev. Alfred Pace of the First United Methodist Church of Silver City officiated.

Robert Morris Eddleman, 19 of Bayard. . died last Friday, March 19, in the Phelps Dodge hospital at Morenci, Ariz. Death resulted from Injuries sustained in an automobile accident which occurred March 10. near Duncan, Ariz. The accident also cost the life of John "Buttens" Swall, 19, Silver City. Another companion in the wrecked ear, Jack Sherman, is recovering at his home here. Mr. Eddleman attended STC high school, and served with the marines during the war. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Mary M. Eddleman, and two brothers, M. E. and William Edelman, all of Bayard, and one sister, Mrs. James W, Wilson of Hurley. Funeral services were held last Sunday from Cox Mortuary chapel The Rev. S. Perry, pastor of Bayard Baptist- church, officiated. Burial was In George~ town cemetery. Pallbearers were George Doth son, Jr., Leedro Eby Ray Johnson, 'Vincent Mltchell, Douglas Moore and Gilbert Moore. -

Eddleman: Mary Eddleman, 83, died Saturday, March 24 in Silver City. Mrs. Eddleman was a native of Mimbres and was a life long resident of Grant County. She was a member of the First Baptist CHurch of Bayard and the Past Worthy Matron and life long member of the Georgetown Chapter of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Eddleman is survived by her daughter Mrs. James Wilson of Hurley, two sons, Bill Eddleman of El Paso, Texas, M. E. Eddleman of Worden, Montana,a sister, Mrs. Carrie Dodson of Hurley, seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Funeral services were 2 p. m., Wednesday, March 28, in the Curtis-Bright Chapel with the Reverend Bill Miller officiating. Burial followed in Georgetown Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Elmo Mitchell, Von Rue Crawford, Herbert Johnson, Jack Stewart, George Dodson and Donald Dodson. The family asks that donations in her name be made to the American Cancer Society.

EDDY: Beulah J. Young Eddy, 92, resident of the Deming area for the last 25 years, died early Tuesday morning at Mimbres Memorial Nursing Home. She was born July 26,. 1893 in Indian Territory, Okla. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 10a. m. at Baca's Chapel Of The Dawn with her son, the Rev. Buford H. Young, officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at 3 p. m. Mountain Daylight Time at Sunset Cemetery, Wilcox Ari7. She is survived by four sons, Wilford H. and Jack W. Young of Deming; William Homer Young Jr. and Marvin A. Young, of Silver City; one brother, Arthur M. Horn of El Paso, Texas; one siste1t~, Lydia Bell Clem of Arlington, Texas; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and, 7great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her oldest son, Royoral Young, who died in 1981. Pallbearers will be Roy Lee, Gene, Sammy, Lee, Jerry and Paul Young. Eddy: Johnny Eddy, 70, an Animas resident, died Thursday at Tucson Medical Center in Tucson, Ariz., due to heart failure. He had been fishing, one of the pleasures of life he enjoyed most. The funeral service will be held Monday afternoon at 2 at Valley View Community Church and interment will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Cotton City. He was born Jan. 13, 1924, in El Paso, Texas, and had been a farmer. Mr. Eddy was active, full of life and gave happiness to everyone. He was loved by many and will be missed by all. He farmed in Animas from 1961 until 1976 after moving there from Wilcox, Ariz. After 1976, he ran the Road Forks Tavern until about 2 years ago. Mr. Eddy is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 47 years, Jo Eddy of Animas; a daughter, Jeanette Walter, and her husband, Jim, of Las Cruces; two sons, John Clayton Eddy and his wife, Clara, of Thatcher, Ariz., and Jody Michael Eddy and his wife, Melissa of San Lorenzo; two sisters, Mary Tellez and Stella Garcia, both of El Paso; six grandchildren, Johnny Russell, Jaye, Michael, Leticia, Cory Austin, and Caela; and numerous nieces and nephews. Edgar: Clara L. Edgar, 88, passed away Tuesday, April 18, at Pleasant View Nursing Home. Mrs. Edgar was a native of Texas, and had resided in Silver City for the past four years. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Margaret M. Brooks of Escondido, Calif., two sons, Edward E. Edgar of Hindsville, Ark., William J. Edgar of Capitan, N. M., four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Mary Patton of Red Rock, N. M. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, April 20 at the Curtis-Bright Funeral Chapel with Rev. Clifford E. Hutton of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial followed in Memory Lane Cemetery. Pallbearers were Richard Brooks, Donald Brooks, William Cloudt, Robert Cloudt, Preston Aker and Dean Lee.

Florence E. Edgar, 68, a resident of Central, passed away Wednesday in Gila Regional Medical Center. She was born March 22, 1920, in Marysville, Tenn., and moved to Mew Mexico at age 19. She was employed at the Bayard office of Community Public Service, forerunner of the Texas - New Mexico power Co., for 38 years until her retirement in 1983. She is survived by Joe Edgar of Central; two brothers, T. L. McClure and his wife, Elizabeth, of Danridge, Tenn., and John McClure and his wife, Carolyn, of Jacksonville, Fla.; three sisters, Meda McMurray and her husband Don, Imogene Davis and her husband Edward, and Jackie Kelly and her husband Steve, all of Marysville; and her aunt, Arabella Massey and her husband Nick of Peoria, Ariz. Memorial services will be announced by the Curtis Bright Funeral Home.
Edington: Susan Virginia Edington,77, a Silver City resident, entered life eternal Monday at Homestead Rest Home. She was born June 1, 1915, in Minnesota. She was a member of the Catholic Church, and a retired nurse. A memorial mass will be celebrated Tuesday, Jan. 12, at 10 a. m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with the Rev. George Reynolds officiating. Survivors include a niece, Jean Hobbs of Tyrone, and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Entrusted to the care of Baca's Funeral Chapels.

Funeral services were held last Tuesday for Preston Scot Edmisten, infant son of Mr and Mrs. Earl Edmisten, who died early Monday morning The baby is survived by the parents and by two brothers and one sister. Burial was in Silver City cemetery.

Edmonds: Funeral services were held Saturday in Phoenix for a former resident of Silver City, Shapard A. Edmonds, a veteran of World War I and an active worker in the Baptist Church.

Howlet A. Edwards, 67, of Las Cruces, a World War I Navy veteran, died Saturday at Fort Bayard Veterans Hospital. Surviving is his wife, Mrs. Neil Edwards. Funeral services were held Tuesday In the Fort Bayard chapel, followed by burial in the hospital cemetery under direction of the Wheeler Mortuary of Deming.

John Brady Edwards, 65, died late Friday evening or early Sunday morning at the Allenrancii ?iiotrth of Pinos Altos. He died of natural causes, according to a coroner's jury verdict in t he office of Judge I Haugland. Mr Edwards had lived in this . area for six years, working on various ranches. . He made his home here in Silver City with a daughter in law Mrs. Eudora Edwards. He is survived by three brothers, Thomas J. of Safford, Az: Charles of Prescot Az., and Alonio of Dunean, OkLa.; and two sisters, Mrs. Thila T. Powell of Cliff and Mrs. Nina Gilispie of Coolidge, Az. the body was shipped to Duncan Az by Cox Mortuary where burial will take place.

Word has been received by Mrs. Fred Newman of the death in Graham, Texas, May 18, of Marvin H. Edwards. Mr. Edwards at one time was on the security police force at Hurley. Mrs. Edwards had a beauty shop in Silver City. Burial was at Graham

EDWARDS: Newton Jack Edwards, 76, of Gienwood passed away at his residence Tuesday. Memorial services will be conducted Thursday a 10 a. m. at Glenwood Park in Glenwood with the Rev. Jesse Liles officiating. Mr. Edwards was born Oct. 13, 1921, in Anthony, Texas. He was the son of Newton Jackson Edwards Sr. and Felicia Carpenter Edwards. Mr. Edwards was a longtime Glen-wood resident, and a rancher and farmer. He served in the U. S. Army as a radar technician in the South Pacific during World War II. He is survived by one son, RonaldJ. Edwards, and his wife, Kelly. of Silver City; and three grandchildren, Robert "B. J. " Edwards, Duslin Edwards and Ashley Edwards. all of Silver City. Mr. Edwards was preceded in death by one son, Robert B. Edwards. Bright Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Final rites were held Tuesday for Waiter H. Edwards,' 53, who succumbed after a long Illness at the Santa Rita hospital. The Rev. Harold B. Edwards: C. F. Edwards, 55, of Bayard, employed in the power plant at Hurley of Chino Mines Division, Kennecott Copper Corp., died last Thursday in an El Paso hospital. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Ivy Edwards; two daughters, Mrs. Sylvia Portillo and Miss Blanche Edwards; a son, Richard, all of Bayard; and two sisters, Mrs. W. H. Harrison, San Diego and Mrs. Louis McElvain, Victorville, Calif. Funeral services and burial were under the direction of the Martin Mortuary in El Paso.

Edwards: Robert Brian Edwards, 27, a resident of Silver City, passed away early Friday morning in Gila Regional Medical Center after a long illness. He is survived by his son, B. J. Edwards of Cliff; his parents, Jack Edwards of Glenwood and Viona Edwards of Silver City, a brother Ronald Edwards and his wife, Kelly, of Silver City; his maternal grandparents, Melvin and Virginia Collier of Deer Park, Wash., and his niece and nephew, Ashley and Dustin Edwards, both of Silver City. He was born Oct. 16, 1962, in Deming. He moved to Glenwood in 1967, where he attended elementary school. He was a 1980 graduate of Reserve High School, and he later attended Western New Mexico University. He was very active in 4-H. He will be missed greatly, especially by his son, B. J. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 10:30 a. m. in the Presbyterian Church in Glenwood with the Rev. Jake Snyder officiating. Interment will follow in the Glenwood Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Blaine Thacker, Lonnie Spooner, David Rowell, David Pierce, Doug Larsen and Dwayne Larsen. The Wheeler Funeral Home is in charge.

Egbert: Graveside services were held Friday, Oct. 27, in South Park Cemetery in Roswell, for Leona Curry Egbert, 81, of Roswell. She passed away Wednesday, Oct. 25, in the Eastern New Mexico Medical Center. The Rev. Jeffrey A. Symonds, minister of Trinity United Methodist Church, officiated. Mrs. Egbert was born June 23, 1908, in Hagerman, to C. W. Curry and Leona Hebbard Curry. She was married May 19, 1934, in Santa Rita, to Tracy Egbert of Silver City, who preceded her in death in 1937. Her love of teaching was reflected in the lives of numerous students she touched during her 48 years in the Silver City Public School System. She received her bachelor's and master's degrees from Western New Mexico University in Silver City. She also assisted in organizing the Girl Scouts in Silver City and was a member of Business and Professional Women. She was a member of the Methodist Church in Silver City. After retiring, she moved to Roswell, where she had resided with her sister since 1983. Survivors include a sister, Margaret Parker of Roswell, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters. Arrangements were handled by Ballard Funeral Home.

J. A. Ehrman pioneer resident of Deming and well known in the area, died Monday in Deming at the age of 80 years. He was born in San Francisco Feb. 9, 1868. Surviving Mr. Ehrman are two sons and two daughters, Mrs. W. A. Freeman of Deming, Mrs. Gertrud Taylor of Kansas City, B. L. ehrman of Lincoln Neb., and J. A. (Tony Jr) of fort Bayard. Funeral services will be held from the Holy Family Catholic church this morning at 10 o'clock. Internment will be in the Deming cemetery. Pallbearers are to be Joe Deckert, Herman Lindauer, Carl Schultz, George Dowdel, Jim Mehas, all of Deming, and E. W. Ellington of El Paso. honorary pallbearers are Gus Eugendorf, Curly Carson, Wm Goll, J. C. Kelly, Henery Meyer, George Chester, and Charles Allen.

Ehrman: John Joseph Anthony Ehrman, 93, of Silver City passed away Friday at Homestead adult center. A beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Mr. Ehrman touched everyone he met with his honesty and goodness. Born July 29, 1900 in Deming, he entered a career in 1920 with the Civil Service as a monitor transport officer working at Fort Bayard until his retirement in 1965. Throughout his career he escorted numerous visiting dignitaries, including Gens. John Joseph Pershing and George C. Marshall, and Mrs. Franklin Delano Roosevelt. For his outstanding service, he was bestowed the highest honor given to a government employee. After his retirement, Mr. Ehrman moved to El Paso, Texas, to spent time with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, the former Ruth Brownfield of Silver City; his sister-in-law, Lucille Brownfiles Wellington of Silver City; two granddaughters, Toni Diane Wetzel and her husband, James of Silver City, and Jennifer Lynn Ehrman of Los Angeles; and five great-grandchildren, Bryn, Shane, Justin, Cody, and Lacey Wetzel, all of Silver City. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Virgina Ruth Erham Hooker, and a brother, Bert Erham. A truly gentel and loving man, Mr. Ehramn will be greatly missed. Interment of cremains will be hled at a private memorial service in El Paso. Entrusted to the care of Baca's Funeral Chapels and Mimbres Crematorium.

Eikanger: Andrew John Eikanger, 17, died Thursday in Silver City. He was a member of the Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church and was a student at Silver High School. He is survived by his mother, Doris Eikanger of Silver City; one sister, Cindy Eikanger of Silver City; one brother, Randy Eikanger of Silver City; one aunt, Shirley Lane McBride of Silver City; his maternal grandfather, Gailord Stiles Sr. of Lebanon, Ind.; and his paternal grandparents, Grace and Paul Eikanger of Punta Gorda, Fla. He was preceded in death by his father, John Eikanger, in 1981. Graveside services will be held at 10 a. m. Tuesday in Memory Lane Cemetery, and memorial services will be held at 11 a. m. Tuesday in the Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church. The Rev. Weldon W. Cokerand the Rev. Dennis Wagner will officiate at both services. Serving as pallbearers will be Danny Lane, Rob Narvaez, Frank Carillo, Pat Carillo, William Bagley, Ray Corral, Chickie Hubble and Curtis Chitwood. Ekers; Karen Diamond Ekers, 83, of 11631 State Route 5, Ashland, Kentucky, formerly of Lawrence County, died Nov. 27 in King's Daughter's Medical Center in Ashland following a short illness. Mrs. Ekers was born Feb. 8, 1905, in Deep Hole, Ky., a daughter of the late Dewitt and Frances Rice Diamond. Her husband, Roscoe F. Ekers, died in 1968. She was a member of the Green Valley Church in Louisa, Ky. Surviving are two daughters, Betty Vanover of Silver City and Wanda Wallin of Kenova, W. Va.; two sons, Roskoe H. Ekers and Gary Lynn Ekers, both of Ashland; two sisters, Rose Combs of Louisa and Dorothy Jordan of Westwood, Ky.; a brother, Dewitt Diamond of Louisa; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. The funeral was conducted Nov. 29 in the Heston-Wilson Funeral Home in Louisa by the Rev. Henry "Jake" McCoy. Burial was in the Ekers Cemetetery, Star Route, Louisa.

Carl S. Elayer' 69,' widely known in the Southwest as a mining operator, engineer and executive, and president of the Board of Regents of New Mexico Western College, died last Saturday in Hillcrest General Hospital, following a heart attack. For many years, Mr. Elayer had 'a successful and outstanding career in mining circles, and contributed much to the expansion of the metal mining industry. Also, he was active in Civic affairs and the advancement of education. Under his able leadership as head of the Board of Regents the past several years, Western College greatly increased its facilities by additions of a modern Library building, Science building and 100-men's dormitory; at a combined outlay exceeding $1,000,000. For some years, Mr. Elayer was general - superintendent of the Ground Hog Asarco Unit of the American Smelting & Refining Company at Vanadium and thereatfter over a perlod of several years operated under lease a lead and zinc property at Magdalena. In recent years he had completed large shaft-sinking contracts for the major mining companies in the Silver City District. He was a member of the A. I. M. E. and director of the New Mexico Mining Association. In his civic undertakings Mr. Elayer had served as a member and director of the Silver City' Grant County Chamber of Commerce; was a member of the Rotary Club, the Masonic Lodge and the Scotish Rite bodies and affiliated with the First Presbyterian Church. Born in "Salem, Mo., May 12, 1890, Mr. Elayer was a graduate of the Missouri School of Mines and came to the Southwest In 1912. In 1931 he became a resident of Grant County. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Felicia Elayer; three daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Richmond, Mrs. John C. Davis and Mrs. Paul L. Hunter; 10* grandchildren; a brother, H. S. Elayer, Bakersfield, Calif., and an aunt, Mrs. Marie Rixey, Los Angeles. Private funeral services were held at, 10:30 a. m. Monday in the Cox Mortuary chapel, the Rev. Garry Kamerling of the First Presbyterian church conducting the rites. Interment was in the Silver City cemetery. Serving-as pallbearers were Dr. Cloyd Miller, Dr. Leon M. Bower, Jr. Charles F. Dienst, Richard R. Davis, Earl Strong and George Anderson.
 

Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Elder received word of the death of his mother 'last week in Napa, Calif. . Mrs. Elder had been ill' for a number of years and her death came as a result of a stroke. Mr. 'and Mrs. Elder left for Price and Farm, Utah, to make necessary arrangements for the funeral services which will be held at Farm.

Ralph David Elder, Jr. four months old son of Mr. and Mrs. 'Ralph 'Elder, died Monday in Hillcrest General hospital after a brief illness. Private funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Cox Mortuary Chapel, conducted by Bishop William Lobstein of the Church of Latter Day Saints. Burial took place et Alma cemetery in Catron County.

Elder: Amel "Abe" Black Elder, 87, died Tuesday in Silver City. Mr. Elder was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, First Ward, in Silver City. He was the First Branch president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints held in his home in Hurley, and he later became a member in Silver City. He was a World War I veteran. Mr. Elder was a life member of American Legion Red Metal Post No. 46 in Hurley and helped build the post. He was the last charter member of Post No. 46. He was past department commander of the American Legion. He was a member of 40-8, another group of the American Legion. Mr. Elder was an extremely ambitious, hardworking, dedicated man who always served his fellow man no matter what. Mr. Elder was instrumental in organizing the Boys' and Girls' State programs. He was also instrumental in organizing the Hurley Golf Club and golf course. He was a baseball coach and sponsor. He was a lifelong member of the Utah Fireman's Association. He is survived by his wife, Alberta Elder of Silver City; two daughters, Shirley Lacy of Silver City and Betty Lou Fairchild of Anchorage, Alaska; one son,Ralph David Elder of Yuma, Ariz.; three stepchildren, Verna Rapierof Tempe, Ariz., Majorie Reynolds of Safford, Ariz., and Vernon John Laney of Buckhorn; one sister, Erma Pearl Fowles of Napa, Calif.; 14 step-grandchildren; and 14 great step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife Rachel Elizabeth Laird Elder, in 1978; by two sons, A. Barney Elder, in 1987, and William B. Elder, in 1935; and by his brother, Joseph F. Elder. Services will be held at 10:30 a. m. Monday in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with Jerry McDonald officiating. Jerry Billings will read the opening prayer and will read a poem, "My Father," by Billings' son, Ralph Elder. Interment will follow in the Fort Bayard National Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Allingham-Golding Post No. 18. Serving as pallbearers will be Craig Elder, Chris Elder, Robert Elder, VernonLaney Jr., Steve Catanach and Lloyd Lacy. Elder: Amel Bernard "Barney" Elder, 6l, of Las Cruces, died Wednesday in Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque. Mr. Elder was born in Standardville, Utah, to Amel B. Elder and Rachel Elizabeth {Laird} Elder. He attended schools in Magna, Utah, and graduated from Hurley High School in l943. He then served three years in the U. S. Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. He received a bachelor of arts degree from Western New Mexico University and taught social studies and coached at the junior high school in Silver City. From l951-57 he was a teacher and athletics coach at Las Cruces High School. In l957 he moved to Aztec where he was an administrator, principal and school superintendent. He Later moved to Gallup where he served as director of personnel for the McKinley County Schools. In 1970 he returned to Las Cruces and began work as a career agent for the Geat American Reserve Insurance Co. He consistently ranked as one of the company's top salesmen and received numerous awards for outstanding sales and customer service. In l985 he was presented with the company's highest award, the Travis T. Wallace Award symbolizing the company's epitomy of excellence. He is the first and only person to receive this high honor. He enjoyed spending time and energy helping with many area high school and college athletic programs. In l985 he was chosen to be the official starter for the state high school track meet. He is survived by his wife, Billie Jim Page Elder of Las Cruces; his sons, Craig of Las Cruces and Chris of El Paso, Texas; his father, Amel B. Elder of Silver City; a brother, Ralph of Yuma, Ariz.; and two sisters, Shirley Lacy of Silver City and Betty Fairchild of Anchorage, Alaska. Services will be held Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Telshore Boulevard in Las Cruces at 3 p. m. Burial and military graveside services will be conducted by the Fort Bliss honor guard at the Masonic Cemetery in Las Cruces. In lieu of flowers the family has requested contributions to the A. Elder: Mrs. Rachel Elizabeth Elder, 74, passed away Sunday, May 28, at her residence in Hurley. Mrs. Elder, a native of Eureka, Utah, was a longtime resident of Grant County. She was a life time member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She is survived by her husband, Amel B. Elder of Hurley, two daughters, Mrs. Shirley Lacy of Silver City, Mrs. Betty Lou Fairchild of Gila, and two sons, Barney Elder of Las Cruces, Ralph Elder of Grants, ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Survivors also include 4 sisters, Mrs. Pat Richins and Mrs. Etta Hinkins, both of Provo, Utah; Mrs. Florene Gillson of Spring Canyon, Utah, and Mrs. Dorothy Mechem of Springville, Utah, and two brothers, Joseph David Laird of Orem, Utah and Vern Laird of Salt Lake City, Utah. Funeral services were at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Tuesday, May 30, Bishop Wayne Decker officiated. Interment followed in Ft. Bayard National Cemetery.

Elder: Ralph David Elder, longtime resident and business man in the Grant County area, died Saturday in the Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix, Ariz., following heart surgery. He was born in Magna, Utah, on Feb. 14, 1932, and attended Webster Elementary School in that community for four years before his family moved to Hurley. He continued his education there in the Hurley Schools and participated in many of the various band and sports activities. He graduated from Hurley High School with the class of 1950. After joining the U. S. Navy during the Korean conflict he served aboard the USS Greenfish, the USS Caiman and the USS Jalleo. For service during combat he was awarded four service awards including the Submarine Combat Pin for action preparatory to the invasion of Inchun, Korea, which divided the North Korean forces. He was honorably discharged as petty officer second class. Upon his return to the Silver City area he attended Western New Mexico University and graduated in 1958 with a degree in business administration. While pursuing his graduate work in finance, economics and marketing in 1959 he opened the Elder realty Co. office on Broadway St. He was instrumental in the planning and developing of several major housing projects in Silver City including the Elder Addition on the north side of town. During this time he was also named as the first manager of the newly organized branch of of the Deming Federal Savings and Loan Association of Silver City. He married Thelma "Sami" Louise Balke on Jan. 1, 1954, and shared his life with her for nearly 35 years. They had three children, Karren Mae Elder, Ralph David Elder Jr. and Robert Amel Elder. The Elders left the area in 1963 and moved to Mesa, Ariz., where Mr. Elder continued his realty business and obtained his building contractors license. They later moved to Grants where he pursued his contracting business and he became a member of the Building Contractors Association of New Mexico. Severely depressed economic conditions in Grants influenced them to move back to Arizona. They lived in Hyder, Ariz., for several years where he, in addition to his contractors business, was office manager for Hyder Jojoba Inc. before they made their final move to Yuma, Ariz. There he worked as construction superintendent for Jacobson Construction and as construction coordinator at Southwest Lumber Co. Mr. Elder was known everywhere he went for his quick wit, good humor and generous spirit. He spent much of his leisure time composing and compiling poetry which he wrote to express his views of the world around him - "sometimes with humor and dignity and sometimes not". He was preceded in death by his son Ralph D. "Davie" Elder,; his mother Rachael Elizabeth; his brothers William Vearl Elder and Amel Bernard "Barney" Elder; and his father, Amel Black "Abe" Elder. He is survived by his wife, Thelma, of Yuma; his son's family, Robert and Eileen Elder and their daughter, Sara; hid daughter's family, Richard and Karren Merrill of Phoenix, Ariz., and their children, Jennifer, Justin, Jason, Joy and Jordon; and two sisters, Shirley Lacey of Silver City and Betty Fairchild of Anchorage, Alaska. His relatives and friends are invited to share their memories with his family at the Eighth Street Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Yuma on Wednesday, Dec. 28, at 1p. m. A graveside Service will be held at the Alma Cemetery at Alma on Thursday, Dec. 29, at1p,m. Mrs Walter F. Elgin, 51, died at her home, 213 S. Cooper street here, Friday, Dec. 17. Born in Madisonville Ky., she ha. d been a resident of Silver City six years at the time of her death. Elias: Lupe Quintanar Elias, 82, a lifelong resident of Silver City, entered eternal rest Saturday at her home. She was born Oct. 16, 1911, in Silver City to Guillermo and Natalia Quintanar Elias. She was a lifelong member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church of Silver City. Survivors include her son, Leo E. Majalca, and his wife, Elsie, three granddaughters, Lynette Leyba and her husband, Edward, Sonia Majalca and her fiancé, Peter Layba, and Sylina Majalca, and two great grandsons, Patrick Andrew Leyba and Mathew Isiah Leyba, all of Silver City. Also surviving are her two sisters, Josephine Maldonado and her husband, Louis, of Silver City, and Erlinda Ramirez of Silver City; a brother, Guillermo "Willie" Elias of Silver City; two sisters-in-law, Toby Elias of Albuquerque and Rosa Elias of Silver City; and numerous nieces andnephews. ELIOT: Theodore S. Eliot, a doctor of' veterinary medicine, 7 I, of Cloudcroft died Sunday. He. was born Nov. 7, 1924, in Chicago, the son of Theodore and Mignon H. Eliot Sr. He married Frankee Page in 1953. He graduated from Colorado State University in 1956 as a doctor of veterinary medicine. Dr. Eliot had private practices in Alamos, Las Cruces, Silver City and Santa Fe. He was on the Oklahoma State University faculty fo rsix years and taught in Guatemala two of those years with the International Exchange programs In 1966, he served as president of the New Mexico Veterinarians Association. . In 1977, he was part of an evaluation team forthe. World Bank in Ethiopia, and in 1985, he taught at University in St. Kitts, Virgin Islands. He is survived by his wifc, Frankee Eliot the family home; a son, Eliot, a doctor of dental surgery, and his wife, Debra of Edmond, OkIa two daughters, Jennifer Thornburg and her husband David, and Elizabeth White and her husband, Brian, all of Albuquerque; a brother, Warner A. Eliot, and his wife, Amy, of Winston Salem, N. C.; two sisters, Robin Garstkaand her husband, John, of Denver, and Calista Hamil! and her husband, Jake, of Hamilton, Colo.; and 12grandchildren A memorial service will held at 6:30 p. m. Enislado Elizalde, 54, a former resident of Grant county died Monday at his home in Deming where he had resided for the past several years. Born in Mexico he came to New Mexico as a child and for many years worked in the mining district. Surviving are his widow, three sons, three daughters, and a sister.

Elizalde: Josepha S. Elizalde, 75, of Deming, died Friday in Las Cruces Memorial General Hospital. She was born Feb. 24, 1912, in Fierro, and had been a Deming resident for the past 34 years. Elliott: James Earl Elliott, 85, a longtime Silver City resident, died Tuesday, March 22, at the Homestead Adult shelter. He was born April 22, 1908, in Cleburne, Texas, and graduated from Breckenridge (Texas) High School in 1924. His graduation was followed by work as a member of survey crew for Roxaba Petroleum Gulf Oil Co., Dupont and the New Mexico Highway Department. He served as sergeant-at-arms at the New Mexico Senate and wrote many speeches for the politicians of the day. On Sept. 1, 1934 he married Ruby Collier and to this marriage were two children born. He served in the U. S Army from 1943 to 1945. His service during World War II was with the 40th Infantry Division, 22nd Field Artillery Battalion. He saw action in Guadalcanal, New Britian, the Philippine Islands, and Korea. From 1945 to 1958, he resided in Raton, where he was a businessman, community leader and newspaper columnist. He and his family moved to Silver City in 1958 and he became editor of the Silver City Daily Press, a position he held for nearly 10 years. In 1966, he became the news director for KSIL Radio and followed as news director for KNFT Radio until he resigned in 1970 to become manager of the Silver City-Grant County Chamber of Commerce. In 1977, he was elected president of the New Mexico Chamber of Commerce and was awarded a governor's certificate of appreciation for distinguished service. He retired in 1982. Funeral services are set for Tuesday at 10 a. m. at Fort Bayard National Cemetery. Services will be conducted by Veterans of foreign Wars Post 3347 and Allingham-Golding Post 18. Survivors include his wife, Ruby Elliott, who still resides at the family home on Cottage San Road; a son, Jim, and a daughter, Joyce; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Michael Elliott, 29, sons of Mr. and Mrs. John F. Elliott, La Mesa, California, died November 28 at the Grossman Hospital in La Mesa. Mrs. Elliott is the former Beverly Turner, daughter of Joseph B. Turner and Mrs. John W. Pinkerton of Silver City. Her brother is Tommy Turner, also of Silver City. The deceased was a graduate of Monte Vista High School in Spring Valley, California. He was a general engineering contractor in business with his brother Brian Elliott, in the S. M. Elliott Construction Co., in El Cajon. Funeral services were December 1 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in El Cajon.

Arthur Rex Ellis, 77, retired churn driller, of Silver City, died last Friday. He was well known throughout the community, where he had lived for many years. Surviving are two sisters Mrs. Cordelia Hunter of Deming and Mrs. Viola Hamilton, Silver City, and two brothers, Ruel Ellis, Coleman City, Texas and Roy Ellis, of Cliff. Funeral services were held Monday at the Curtis Mortuary chapel, Dr. Claude Williams, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial took place in the Silver City cemetery.

ELLIS: William P. Ellis, 64, of Silver City passed away Tuesday at his home. Services are pending with Bright Funeral Home.
Ellis: Chester K. Ellis, 52, a Lordsburg resident, died Friday at the Veterans' Hospital in Albuquerque. Visitation will be held Thursday from 10 a. m. until 1 p. m. at the First Baptist Church in Lordsburg. The graveside funeral service will begin at 2 p. m. at Mountain View Cemetery with the Rev. Coy Brewer officiating. Military honors will be accorded by a funeral detail from Holloman Air Force Base. He was born Oct. 5, 1940, in Troy, Ala., and served in the U. S. Air Force as an inventory management supervisor. Mr. Ellis served in Vietnam and retired after 20 years of service. He moved to Lordsburg 11 years ago from Tucson, Ariz. He is survived by his wife, Tina, of the home; a daughter, Marina Roark, and her husband, Wayne, of Animas; two brothers, Gerald Ellis of Montgomery, Ala., and Joel Ellis of Doroville, Ga.; two sisters, Thelma Dowdy of Montgomery and Genevieve Cochran of Marian, Ind.; and two grandchildren, Mark and Heather Roark. He will be missed and loved very much. He is finally at peace. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Crippled Children's Fund. Ellis: Funeral services for Mrs. James R. Ellis, 58, who died here Saturday, June 18, were held at the Cox Mortuary Chapel Monday morning at 10:30 with the Rev. David Holt of the Church of the Good Shepherd officiating. Mrs. Ellis, known to all her friends as Dixie Ellis, had lived here for several years. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Gretchen Osmer, also of Silver City. The body was sent to Albuquerque for cremation and the ashes will be interred in Greenwood cemetery, Fort Worth, Tex.

Ellis: Eugene Leo Ellis, 59, a resident of San Lorenzo, died Wednesday afternoon at his home. He was born Oct. 25, 1931, in St. Louis, Mo. He served in the United States Army and retired from the U. S. Forest Service. Graveside funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10 at Fort Bayard National Cemetery with veteran honors accorded by Allingham-Golding Post No. 18 of the American Legion, Chaplain David Strain officiating. Survivors include a personal friend, Mary Clayton of San Lorenzo; two sons, Steven Ellis of Utah and Matthew Ellis of Carlsbad; two daughters, Janine Feehan of Carlsbad and Cheryl Stallard of California; and eight grandchildren. Ellis: Flora Etta Stockman Ellis, 92, died Friday. She was born in the Gila River Valley in Grant County on Oct. 2, 1900, th eldest daughter in the family of William Bonapart Stockman and Dora Ann Nichols. Her parents had migrated into Grant County the previous spring from the Sacramento Mountains near Alamagordo. In the following few years, her family moved to and from Otero County and finally settled in the Gila area where the Gila Bird Sanctuary is now located. She attended the Mangas School for her early schooling. The family moved from the Gila to Cherry Creek south of Tyrone. As the Stockman family grew, she helped her mother care for the younger children, all of whom called her "Sister" or "Sis. " Even to the younger generations in the family she was known as "Aunt Sis. " She worked as a bookkeeper in the family business, a grocery-butcher shop. She married Luther LeRoy Ellis on Nov. 29, 1921, in Tyrone. They lived their entire lives in Grant County, where their four children were born. During the dark days of the Depression, work was hard to find and Mrs. Ellis baked piees to sell to help feed the growing Ellis Family. Flora and Roy Ellis worked at Western New Mexico University, where they operated the cafeteria in the student center. Mrs. Ellis canned fruits and vegetables, and she created sand paintings, winning awards at the Gila county fairs for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy, on Sept 2, 1987. She spent her last years at Fort Bayard Medical Center. She is survived by her four children, Marvin Leroy Ellis of Silver City, Lillian May Brown of Cliff, Vada Ibera Early and Melvin Wesley Ellis of the Mimbres Valley. She also leaves nine grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, Five great-great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Rose Nell Gilmore of Brownsville, Ore., and Dora Rebecca Gilmore of Oakdale, Calif. Graveside services at Memory Lane Cemetery in Silver City will be held at 10:30 a. m. Tuesday with the Rev. David Goble officiating. ELLISON: Margaret Virginia Ellison, 80, of Silver City passed away at her residence Wednesday, Feb; 11. Graveside services will be conducted Tuesday at 10 a. m. with Deacon Johnny Perez officiating. She was born on March 21, 1912, and was a longtime resident of Grant County. She is sur- vived by four loving children, many relatives and numerous friends. Ellison: Lydia Moore Ellison, 95, died Saturday in Ft. Bayard Medical Center. Mrs. Ellison was born in Missouri where she was a member of the Church of Christ. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Geneva Matthews of Silver City, three sisters, Mrs. Lula Brown of Virden, Oklahoma, Mrs. Ada Awbery of Kirbyville, Missouri, Mrs. Edna Parnell of Wentzville, Missouri, numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday in Branson, Missouri, with Whelchel Mortuary in charge of the arrangements. Burial will follow in the Ellison family cemetery in Hollister, Missouri. Ellison: Richard Roscoe Ellison, 82, of Silver City passed away Tuesday at Gila Regional Medical Center. Mr. Ellison was born July 12, 1910. in Marfa. Texas, to Richard R. and Bulah {Spencer} Ellison. He was a glider pilot and navigator of the U. S. Army/Air Corps, serving in the European Theater during World War II. Mr Ellison was a civil engineer by profession and worked for the Santa Fe Railroad. He was in charge of constructing a railroad for Iron Mines Co. in Venezuela, South America, and later was road master for Chino Mines. He was an authority on early south-western cultures. Mr. Ellison is survived by his wife, Margaret Virginia Ellison of Silver City; a son, Richard Ellison of El Paso, Texas; two daughters, Pat Forenberry, of Hext Texas, and Betsy Henrich of Mason, Texas; and a stepson, Jim Williams. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, Aug. 25, at 2 p. m. at Memory Lane Cemetery in Silver City. Military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post No. 18. Word was received here Monday of the death of John Keith Elms, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Elms, former residents of this city and now living at 141 Rio Seco, Santa Fe, who passed away January 16th at Las Vegas after an extended illness. Mr. Elms was born June 3. 1937 at Lordsburg and attended grade and high school in Silver City. He graduated from the University of New Mexico at Albuquerque and also served with the National Guard. He was teaching science in Orlando. Fla., when he was stricken with encephalitis from which he did not recover. Survivors besides his parents Include a sister. Mrs. Betty Rainvifle of Orlando. Fla., 6 nieces and nephews and an uncle. Edward C. Roberts. of Roswell. Funeral services were hell at 10am, January 30 at the Ballard Chapel in Roswell NM, Burial followed in the South Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Polly M. Elms, who passed her 100th birthday April 26 this year, died Sept. 13 in Uvalde, Texas. Mrs. Elms is survived by 59 grandchildren, 136 great-grandchildren, 38 great-great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great-great-grandchildren, a total of 249. Survivors in this area include several grandchildren, Mac Elms and Connie Bonnie, Lordsburg; Elma Hooker, Gila; Dale Croom, Arenas Valley: R. E. Croom, Silver City: Lloyd Huey, Santa Rita and the John Dickinson children, Cliff.

ELWESS: Billie Fay Elwess, 71, of Silver City passed away Friday, Feb. 13, at Tucson Medical Center in Tucson Ariz, following a long illness. She fought a valiant battle before God reached out and gave her rest. She was born in Raton on Nov. 6, 1926, to William Issiah and Anne Fay Keith. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Mary Thorn; and two nephews, Lewis and Lines Thom. She served as Tyrone postmistress for 22 years, retiring in 1988. Over the years, she was active in numerous local community and civic organizations, unselfishly giving of her time and talents. She is survived by Bill, her beloved husband of 48 years; her son, Alden, daughter-in-law, Diane, and grandson, Charlie, of Deming; her daughter, Kathleen Cahill, grandson, Devin, and granddaughter, Dara, of Tucson; her nephews, Wayne Thorn of Santa Fe, Keith Thorn of Albuquerque, Charles Thorn of Golden, Cob., and Bill Thorn of Los Alamos; and one niece, Thelma Thorn of Memphis, Tenn. Mrs. Elwess was a loving wife and mother who always put her family first. She was a trusted and devoted friend to many. Her unconditional love, steadfast guidance and enduring support will be missed. It broke our heart~ to lose her, but she did not go alone, part of all of us went with her. She is well now, living with God in that place where angels sing and where there is eternal spring. Memorial services celebrating her love of life will be held Friday, Feb. 20, at 2 p. m. in the Silver City Seventh-day Adventist Chapel at 12 Patterson Drive on U. S. 180 East. Interment of the~ashes will be at the national cemetery at Fort 'Bayard. Elwood: The infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Elwood of Silver City passed away Wednesday at Gila Regional Medical Center. Graveside services were held Thursday.

One of the clearest and strongest journalistic voices of New Mexico since lts early statehood was stilled by death Friday, May 12, In Silver City. Clyde Earl Ely, 81, widely known as "Colonel" Ely, died at Hillcrest General Hospital. Born Jan 3, 1886, near Osage City, Kan., he enlisted in the U. S. Navy as a teenager. Following his tour of duty, he attended Washburn College at Topeka, Kansas. In college he was active in athletics, was captain of his track team, a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity and was a member of the varsity club. Combining two careers, he was a vital and enthusiastic leader of the armed forces and had wide influence through the press. He served his newspaper apprenticeship with the Kansas City Star, Kansas City, Mo. Moving to New Mexico, Ely was city editor of the Santa Fe New Mexican In 1911. In 1912, he moved to South west New Mexico where he purchased the Deming Graphic, which he published for 13 years, along with the Deming headlight which he later acquired. It was during this time that Ely became a member of the New Mexico National Guard. He held the rank of second lieutenant when the most dramatic combination of his two careers took place. It was March 10, 1916, when he dashed from Deming to Columbus in the early dawn with his Guard unit to help repel the attack of the maverick Mexican general Pancho Villa. He returned late that night to headline his greatest "Extra,", "Villa Attacks Columbus. N, M. 15 Americans Killed and 9 Wounded, 1000 Mexicans Under General Villa Make Early Raid on Border Town: 100 Mexicans killed. " Ely's active military duty continued during World War I when he served in France as captain with the 145th Machine Gun battalion, 40th Division. U. S Army. Returning to civilian life, Ely resumed his newspaper career in Deming until 1926, when he disposed of his interest in those papers and moved to Albuquerque, where he became' managing editor of the Albuquerque Tribune. A year later, he became publisher of the Gallup Herald (now the Gallup independent) In 1931, Ely left the newspaper business temporarily to take up military duties again. This time he went to Santa Fe where he served as assistant to the adjutant general of the New Mexico National Guard. during this time he also became commanding officer of the 111th Cavalry. In 1933 with the rank of colonel he attended the War College in Washington, D. C., and the Cavalry School at Fort Riley, Kan. He qualified as expert rifleman In the national rifle matches at Camp Perry, Ohio, While in Santa Fe, Ely learned from the late W. B. Walton that the Silver City Independent was for sale. He purchased the paper, a weekly, from Walton, in 1934 and converted it into a daily in 1933. This is the present Silver City Daily Press and Independent. In 1839. he requested retirement from the army and was advanced to the rank of brigadier general. The Colonel, during his years as owner and publisher of the Daily Press, has been an enthusiast for community progress, and made great impact with his editorials H. promoted conservation of soil and water resources, worked consistently for the pro posed Hooker Dam project and the preservation of the Gila Wilderness; promoted recreational potentials to 'encourage tourist Influx; urged construction of dams for the locality and the road to the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument He favored establishment of the Public Library and museum; fought for the continuance of Fort Bayard as a Veterans Hospital: promoted all city Improvements, the municipal swimming pool, the Silver City-Grant County airport; supported Western New Mexico University; promoted beautification of the Town of Silver City and its paving of streets and highways. Colonel Ely was an affiliate of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign War., the 40 & 6 Society, the Disabled American Veterans; was a regular attendant of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Silver City Rotary Club, and the Sportsman's Association In 1966 he was nominated by the Grant County Branch of the American association of University women.

Ely: Everett William Ely, infant, passed away Friday following surgery in Fort Worth Children's Hospital where he had undergone major heart surgery. He was born May 25 in El Paso, Texas. Survivors include his parents, Clyde and Diane Ely of El Paso; maternal grandparents, J. D. and Pat Griffith of Floyd, N. M.; paternal grandparents, William and Betty Ely of Silver City; aunts and uncles, Michael and Tina Sandford of Tucson, Ariz., Jeff and Cindy Terry of Portales, Cory and LaFonda Griffith of Portales, and Wes and Marie Lorier of Creston, Wash.; and maternal great-grandparents, Virgil and Vivian Griffith of Portales. Diaz: Mrs. Annie S. Diaz, 75, died Sept. 2, following an extendedillness in San Diego, Calif. Mrs. Diaz was a lifelong resident ofGrant County. she is survived by two daughters; Mrs. Dora Alderette of Silver City and Mrs. Lillian Robinson of San Diego; four sons, Danny Diaz and Ramon Diaz, Jr., both of Las Cruces, RayR. Diaz of Seattle, Wash. and Freddie Dias of San Diego; 20 grandshildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Lupe Garcia and Mrs. Consuelo Remigio, both ofSilver City and Mrs. Gomecindo De La O of Los Angeles. Ely: William F. Ely, president, treasurer and co-publisher of the Silver City Daily Press and Independent Publishing Co., Inc., passed away Thursday afternoon at his home in Silver City. He was 82. He was born Aug. 14, 1912 in Osage City, Kans. to Clyde Earl Ely and Inez M. Ely. Mr. Ely spent his early years in Deming, where his parents owned and published the Deming Graphic, which later became the Headlight. His father, known to many as "Colonel Ely," traveled with the Army and bought and sold newspapers and print shops. The Elys also owned the Gallup Independent and the Yuma (Arizona) Sentinel before coming to Silver City in 1934. In that year, the Ely family purchased a weekly paper known as the Independent which was established in 1896. In 1935, the Ely family developed the Independent into a daily newspaper, the Silver city Daily Press and Independent Publishing Co. Inc. Mr. Ely attended New Mexico Military Institute and went on to attend the University of New Mexico, where he graduated in 1937 with a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering with an option in physics. He was a member of the New Mexico National Guard for 14 years, resigning as a first lieutenant. During World War II, Mr. Ely worked with classified scientific research through the War Manpower Commission. He was later accorded a place on the Reserved List of Scientific and Technical Personnel authorized by the chairman of that organization. He was also a member of the UNM and NMMI alumni associations and the Kappa Sigma fraternity. He was recognized by the National Committee for Employer Support of the National Guard and Army Reserve, Who's Who Among Outstanding Americans and the National Association of Manufacturers. He was a member of the New Mexico Press Association, the National Newspaper Association and the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Mr. Ely was always a staunch supporter of community development and was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Farm Bureau and Copper Crest Country Club. For many years, he was a Kiwanis Club member. He was also a member of Elks Lodge No. 413. Mr. Ely enjoyed mountain climbing, fishing and hunting. He is survived by his wife, Betty of Silver City; a daughter, Christina Ely of Silver City; two sons, Clyde of Amarillo, Texas and Wes Lorier of Creston, Wash.; two daughters-in-law, Dianne Ely of Amarillo and Marie Lorier of Creston; and his grandchildren, Tommy and Alayna Sandford of Silver City and Alexsandra Ely of Amarillo. Visitation will be from 1 until 3 p. m. today at Baca's Funeral Chapels. Burial will follow at Memory Lane Cemetery. Members of the National Guard will serve as pallbearers. Mrs. Goldie Emanuel 66, of Albuquerque a patient in the State Hospital at Fort Bayard. Was killed in a fall last Friday from a third story Window. Feeling faint, she Went to the window, leaned out and Plunged about 50 feet to her death. Justice of the Peace Robert Kirker of Central Who held a coroner's inquest, reported the jury returned a verdict of accidental death. Funeral services and burial took place in the Fort Bayard Cemetery.

Embick: Josephine V. Embick, 67, of Silver City, died Sunday. She was the center of her family organizations. She is survived by her husband, Levi Embick of Silver City; two daughters, LaNell Jones of Silver City and Ann Victoria Moore of Carlsbad; two sons, John Ova Embick of Rifle, Colo., and William Paul Embick of Silver City; two brothers, Lorin L. Morrow of Silver City and Leon L. Morrow of Las Cruces; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. There will be a funeral service Wednesday at 2 p. m. in the Curtis-Bright Funeral Home chapel with burial following in Memory Lane Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Jim Jones, James Moore, John Embick, Bill Embick, Ova Morrow and Levi Embick. The Rev. Don Atchley will officiate. 'Mr. Embick was born May 19, 1923, in Carroll Pa the son of Elmer and Alverta Ernbick. He married Josephine Morrow on March 25 1944 in Silver City. Mr. Embick is survived by two sons, John Embick and his wife,, Arlene, of Fullerton, Calif., and Bill Embick and his wife, Rose, of Arenas Valley; two daughters, Vickie Moore and her husband,' Jim, of Phoenix, and LaNell Jones and her husband, Jim,. Of Arenas Valley; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren'; three' great-great-grandchildren;' two brothers, Ralph Embick and Paul Embick, and two sisters, Hazel Ewing and Wanda 'Ewing, all of Pennsylvania; and . numerous other relatives. He was preceded in' death by his parents, and his wife, in . 1987. Mr. Embick served in the U. S. Army during World War II. He was a truck driver mos1 of his life. Emerick: John T. Emerick, 75, died at Hillcrest Hospital in the last week of August. Emerick was a native of Seymour, Iowa and had resided in Silver City for the past 23 years. He was a retired locomotive engineer for Kennecott Copper Corporation. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Helen Emerick of Silver City, one son, James Emerick of Cheyene WY., three daughters, Vie, La Wanda and Nona, six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Hyson and Floyd both of Phoenix, AZ., and two sisters, Mrs. Mary King of Stockton, CA., and Mrs. Vesta Allison of Los Angeles, CA. The Rev. Don Brent of the First Baptist Church officiated at the funeral. Interment was in Memory Lane Cemetery. Casket bearers were E. A. Burchfield, David Reams, Robert Sellers, Ben Spurgur, Joe Riggins and Lloyd Sappington.

Emerick: Mrs. Rose B. Emerick, who has been a resident of Grant County since 1926, died Wednesday, November 29, at Fort Bayard. She was 86. She was preceded in death by her husband William H. Emerick in 1965. Mrs. Emerick who was a native of Illinois taught school in her younger years in Alabama, prior to coming to New Mexico. She and her sister Lib Baker worked for several years at Penney's in Silver City, and later established a dress shop here. The deceased was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Eastern Star Chapter No. 3 in Silver City. According to friends of Mrs. Emerick, she was a very generous person and quietly supported a number of her favorite charities over the years. She is survived by a brother D. L. Baker of Flomaton, Alabama, three nieces, Mrs. Ann Byrd of Mesilla Park, N. M., Mrs. Ginger Cole of Pensacola, Fla., Mrs. Barbara Hartley of Palm Desert, Calif., three nephews, James J. Baker of Buena Park, Calif., P. A. Pinson of Villa Park, Calif. and Donald L. Baker of Irvine, Calif. Funeral services were at 2 p. m. Friday, December 1, in the Curtis-Bright Funeral Chapel with Rev. Clifford E. Hutton and the Eastern Star Chapter #3 officiating. Burial followed in the Masonic Cemetery. Acting as pallbearers were Joe Cobb, John Holguin, Joe Frost, Alfonso Gamboa, Walter (Toad) Wilson, Neal Parrish and Con Henry.

William H. Emerick, 77, widely respected business man who had resided in Silver City 44 years, passed away Tuesday at Hillcrest General Hospital. He had been in failing health for the past two years. Born in Farhamville, Calhoun County, Iowa, Feb. 2, 1888, he was a son of Mr. And Mrs. John C. Emerick, his father being a building contractor. When two years old, the family moved to Dallas County, Iowa, and he was educated in the public schools of Waukee, Iowa. After finishing high school, Mr. Emerick started to work in the shops of the Rock Island Railway at Valley Junction, Iowa, to help his widowed mother support her family. At the age of 19 he went to Colorado Springs, Colo., and worked in the mines at Cripple Creek and later was superintendent of a mine owned by his maternal grandfather, John Cook. Later he came to Pinos Altos and was a superintendent of the C. & O. Mining and Milling Co. until he came to Silver City in 1922 and established one of the first motor truck lines to Mogollon. In 1931 he embarked in the automobile business, as Nash dealer in Silver City and Grant County, establishing the Emerick Service & Motor Co., which he owned and operated until his death. In the years that followed Mr. Emerick became one of Silver City's civic leaders and successful business men. He also had an outstanding record as a public official. He served as a member of the Grant County Board of Commissioners from 1945 through 1948 and was chairman of the board for two years. He also served as a member of the City Council 1941-45. Throughout his life, Mr. Emerick was interested in community affairs and supported actively and financially all worthwhile projects, firm in the belief of Silver City's future and the expansion of mining copper, lead and zinc by major mining corporations, headed by Kennecott Copper Corporation. He was a long time member of the Silver City Masonic Lodge and communicant of the Methodist Church. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Rose Baker Emerick and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at the Curtis Mortuary chapel at 3:30 p. m. Thursday. The rites will be conducted by the Rev. Richard Chaffin, pastor of the Methodist Church of Bayard. Officers and members of the Masonic Lodge will hold ritualistic burial services at the Masonic Cemetery.

Mrs. Louisa Elizabeth Emerson, 84, who had been a resident of Cooney and Alma for more than 60 years, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. P. E. Morgan in Picacho, Arizona, on Jan. 10. She was married to Charles Clark in 1889 and moved to the old town of Cooney in 1894 where he freighted to Silver City, Mogollon and CooneyIn 1898 she married Albert Emerson who worked for the W. S. Cattle Company in early days. He died in 1947Funeral services were held in Alma for Mrs. Emerson, who is survived by two sons, Henry Clark of Bakersfield, Cal. and Ted Emerson of Hurley three daughters, Mrs. J. M. Heard of Phoenix, Mrs. Morgan of Picacho, and Mrs. W. F. Morgan of Alma 25 grandchildren and 41 great grandchildren.

Funeral services, for Walter C. Emerson, 53, former resident of Silver City, were held Friday at the Curtis Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Richard Hartnett officiating. Mr. Emerson died Tuesday ' at an Albuquerque hospital. Interment was made In Memory Lane Cemetery. Employed as a carpenter for the Kennecott Company, at Hurley, Mr. Emerson, served with the U. S. Navy, during WW II. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a member of~ the Carpenter's Union. Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Faye Emerson, Deming; a son, Walter Ray Emerson, on duty with the U. S. Navy Seabees; two daughters, Mrs. Lucy McNeely, Alamogordo, and Mrs. Virginia Howard, Milwaukee, Wise.; his father, William F., Emerson, San Diego, Calif.; three brothers, Scott, San Diego, Edward' and Woodrow, Denver, Colo.; four sisters, Miss Leona Emerson, San Diego, Miss Gertrude Emerson, Mrs. Margaret Beebe and Mrs. Ann Hellyer, all of Denver.

Emerson; Della Kelly Emerson, 79, died Jan. 24 in Silver City. Mrs. Emerson was born March 18, 1902, the daughter of William and Susanna Vegil Kelly. She was a resident of Hurley and a member of the First Baptist Church in Bayard. She is survived by two daughters, Clara Plumbe of Las Cruces and Emma Lou Minch of San Diego, Calif. two sons, Joe Emerson of Sierra Vista, Ariz. and Aaron James Emerson of Huachuca, Ariz., four sisters, Susie Nash of Reserve, Emma Mills, Felicita Morgan, and Juanita Spurgeon, all of Alma, N. M., two brothers, Lewis Kelly and Willie Kelly, both of Alma; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Services were held on Tuesday at the Glenwood Presbyterian Church with Rev. Bill Miller officiating. Burial followed in Alma Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers were Harold Keith, Wade Richardson, Bill Kelly, David Kelly, Wilford Kelly and Emmet Kelly. EMERY: Diane Gail Emery 31, a writer and social activist, passed away Friday Nov. 21, at a Fort Worth Texas, hospital, after a life-long battle with cystic fibrosis. She was born Jan. 18 1966, in Albuquerque. She graduated from San Angel Central High School in 1984. She was class valedictorian. Subsequently, she graduated from the University of Texas with highest honors in philosophy. She was a graduate student at Heidelberg University in Germany and at Northwestern University in Illinois. She was very active in many successful anti-smoking campaigns for the benefit of people with respiratory ailments, as well as being deeply involved with a number of social issues. Ms. Emery was an active member of UTA Friends of the Library and the Trinity Writers' Group. Survivors include her parents, James B. and Mary Ellen Emery of Colleyville, Texas; a brother, Van L. Emery of Everett, Wash.; her niece, Clara Mae Emery of Everett; her grandmother, Ruth M. Emery of Colleyville; her grandfather, Joe P. Carr, uncle, Gary C. Emery, and aunt, Beverly Dwyer, of Midland, Texas; and an uncle, Joe P. Carr Jr. of Austin.

Emery: Cecil G. Emery, 85, a longtime Grant County resident, passed away Saturday at his home in Silver City. He was born July 9, 1909 to Pitman and Ruby Lee (Hoover) Emery in Portales in what was then New Mexico Territory. He was raised in West Texas and at the age of 14 traveled from Sterling, Texas with his family by covered wagon to Portales. When still in his teens, he made cattle-selling trips for his father as far as Kansas City. He worked on the Mescalero Apache Reservation near Ruidoso. Shortly after he began working as a lookout and fireman for the U. S. Forestry in the Gila Wilderness, he married Ruth M. Watson in Silver City on May 12, 1934. For two years he worked in Globe, Ariz. as a miner. He returned to New Mexico where he began working for area ranches, including the GOS Ranch on the Mimbres. He later went back to mining and was employed with ASARCO and then for 31 years, until retiring in 1975, was employed with Kennecott. Mr. Emery enjoyed fishing and horseback riding and continued working with his horses until an accident, at the age of 80, prevented him from doing so. He was recognized by many for his ability to retain detailed information of the past and through oral history and history tapes helped build Western New Mexico University's history department. He was an author of short stories based on facts and because the publishers could not read his writing, he taught himself to type at the age of 80. Much of his work appeared in local newspapers. He was a cowboy, miner, farmer, carpenter, writer and storyteller, but above all a devoted husband and father who loved living in the Southwest. He was a member of International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local Lodge No. 1563 (AFL-CIO), the Silver City Museum Association and the Historical Society. He helped develop the New Mexico Cowboy Poetry Gathering. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Emery of Silver City; two sons, Jim Emery and his wife, Mary Ellen of Colleyville, Texas and Gary Emery and his wife, Linda of Burleson, Texas; his sister, Hazel Cox of Phoenix, Nan Jolly of Lubbock, Texas, Corrine Coffman, also of Lubbock, Nadine Graves of Austin, Texas and Bobby Sue Jarrell and her husband, Jimmy of Elk, Wash.; his brothers, Frank Emery and his wife, Nancy of Columbia, S. C., Lee Emery and his wife, Laura of Idalou, Texas, Wayne Emery and his wife, Vera Mae of Waldron, Ark. and Harold Emery and his wife, Venera of Amarillo, Texas; his grandchildren, Diane Emery of Colleyville, Van Emery and his wife, Newell Ann of Marysville, Wash., Scott Emery of College Station, Texas, Chris Emery of Burleson and Jamie Emery, also of Burleson; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Dora Graves in 1970. Visitation will take place today from 1-9 p. m. in the Curtis-Bright Funeral Home chapel. Funeral services will begin at 10 a. m. EMMETT: Katherine "Katie" Emmett, 35, of Silver City, a former resident of El Paso, Texas, passed away at her home Sunday, May 28. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Bright Funeral Home and memorial services will be conducted at a later date in El Paso. EMORY: Glen E Emory,, 69, a resident of Silver City~ since 1988, passed away Saturday at his home. A memorial service will be held Friday morning at 10 at Baca's Funeral Chapels with Ken Palmer officiating. He was born June 12, 1928, in West Portal, Cob., to Jack Emory and, Blanch Nickelle. He lived and worked in California most of his life. Mr. Emory was an auto parts salesman. He was a member of Westerners, People for the West, and the' Racketeer Band for five years, entertaining people in retirement homes and at other functions. His hobbies included metal detecting and going on exploration trips in a motor home. Nine years ago, he retired to Silver City from Placerville, Calif. 'lie recently belonged to the musical group, Over the Hill Gang, which entertained at rest homes and other functions. He is survived by his five children, Cynthia Coats, Gale Garcia,, Kathleen Van Zile, Susan Villegas and John Case, all of California; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. ENCINAS: Jaedena Destiny Enemas, infant daughter of Juan F. and Jessica Terrazas Enemas, formerly of Lords-burg, now of Albuquerque, passed away at birth Tuesday, March 10, in Albuquerque. Graveside funeral services were conducted today at 10 am. in Shakespeare Cemetery with Father Tony Clark officiating. Jaedena is survived by her parents; a brother, Julian Juan Enemas of Albuquerque; and 'her grandparents, Rudy Terrazas, Carmen Guerrero, and Juan and Lidia Enemas, all of Lordsburg. Lordsburg Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Eng: Richard Eng, 81, of Santa Fe passed away Friday, May 12, as the result of an automobile accident. He is survived by his wife, Brenda, of Santa Fe; a son, Christopher Eng, and his wife, Joan, of Silver City; his grandsons, Nils of Albuquerque and Eric of Silver City; and many relatives throughout the United States. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services have been postponed.

Englehart: Mr. and Mrs. Henry Schadel received word on Monday that Mr. Schadel's brother-in-law, George Englehart, had died in Albuquerque at the age of eighty two. The Schadels left Silver City Tuesday for Albuquerque where they will attend the funeral which will be held Friday afternoon. Mr. Englehart up to a year ago was the owner and operator of the Englehart Baking Co., a large Albuquerque baking company. He sold the business to Mead's Baking Co. who now include it in their chain of bakeries. The deceased was a resident in Silver City during the period from 1910 to 1913 when he went to Albuquerque to enter business. He is survived by his widow and a son, Lehn Englehart, both of that city.

ENNIS: Charles' T. Ennis 59, a resident of Santa Clara, passed away Tuesday at Gila Regional Medical Center. He was born May 17, 1937, to John and Edna Orville in Chico, Calif. Mr. Ennis was a building inspector for Delta Engineering in Deming. He was a veteran of the U. S. Marine Corps and the U. S. Army. Mr. Ennis is survived by two sons, John Ennis and his wife, Charlene, of Red Bluff, Calif., and Jim Ennis, also of Red Bluff; two daughters, Kelly Steele and her husband, Randal, of Hamilton City, Calif., and Cheryl Whitfield and her husband, Cary, of Santa Clara; two brothers, Ray Cox and his wife, Katherine, of Taylor, Ariz., and Fred Cox of Oklahoma; one sister, Veda Cox of Taylor, Ariz., and eight grandchildren. Mr. Ennis was preceded in death by his wife, Bernita Ennis, in 1994, and a granddaughter, Randi Raelee Steele, in 1990. Death on Tuesday claimed Eddie S. Enriquez, 5 months old son Of Mr. and Mrs Willie T. Enriquez of Hurley. Funeral services were to be held today with burial in the Hurley cemetery, directed by the Cox Mortuary.

Joe Lorenzo Enriquez, 16, of Central, 'was instantly killed Thursday afternoon when the car he was driving' overturned following the blowout of a tire. The, accident occurred one' mile eastSanta Rita no Highway 90. A companion, 17-tear-old Benny Palomarez of Bayard, was unhurt. The funeral' Mass: was read Monday at the Santa Clara Catholic Church In Central, with the Rev, Fr. Felix Sheridan officiating. Burial was made in the Central Cemetery. Survivors of the deceased include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. JesuS J. Enrlquez of Central; three brothers, Richard, Ramon and Gilbert; three sisters, Martha Virginia And Margaret all of Central; ', his maternal grandparents,. Mr. and Mrs. Ellas Bareajas Central; and his paternal' grandfather, Pasquel Enrlquez of Mexico. Curtis Mortuary was in charge of the services.

Entzminger: Wilford Entzminger, U. S. Forest Service employee, died suddenly while at work Thursday afternoon, Oct. 4 in the McKenna Park area of the Gila wilderness. The death was the second to occur under similar circumstances in the forest in the last few months. Mr. Entzminger, accompanied by Don Hughes, ranger at the White Creek station, was working at an assigned task when he complained of not being able to breathe. Before Ranger Hughes could administer any aid, he fell to the ground and died. Many miles from help, Ranger Hughes set out afoot to the White Creek station where he phoned a Silver City doctor. He was advised that the forester was undoubtedly beyond aid and the task of removing the body began. Since all equipment has been moved from the forest for the winter season, it was necessary to organize a crew from the Silver City headquarters and transport a small caterpillar tractor, one used on the narrow forest trails to Willow Creek. Arriving late in the evening the men traversed the 18 miles to White Creek, towing the narrow gauge trail wagon. Leaving the vehicles at White Creek station, they made the rest of the journey afoot and brought the body out on an improvised litter. It was 5 a. m. Friday when they arrived at the death scene and there they found that Ranger Don Hughes, youthful North Carolinian, had returned to maintain a lonely vigil throughout the night guarding the body. During the long time involved, the crew went without food and sleep. The men who made the journey were Bob Leonard, Jess Bible, Tracy Neal, John Kite and Grant Roberts. Their efforts elected the praise and gratitude of the deceased's family and Gila Forest Supervisor Edwin Tucker. An inquest was held at Glenwood and the body returned to Silver City for the funeral services, which were held Sunday at the Hinman Mortuary Chapel. Rev. Harold Johnson, pastor of the Santa Rita Community Church, officiated. Interment was in the city cemetery. Wilford Entzminger was a lifetime resident of this area. Born June 30, 1896 at Sherman, N. M., he attended the local schools and the New Mexico State Teachers College. A veteran of World War I, he served overseas with the 36th Division. Survivors are two brothers, John D. Entzminger of Los Angeles and Albert Entzminger of Phoenix; two sisters, Mrs. Alpha Nelson and Mrs. John McAnulty,both of Silver City. Pallbearers for the funeral service were Barney Roberts, Bernard Williams, Lee Bloodgood, Spiky Wilson, Arch Carroll and Bob Leonard.

Epler: William C. Epler, longtime Bisbee, Ariz. publisher and editor, died Tuesday from complications following cancer surgery. He was 73. Mr. Epler was publisher of Pay Dirt, a prominent Western mining publication, and the Brewery Gulch Gazette, a weekly Bisbee newspaper. He was born May 22, 1922 on a farm in the San Joaquin Valley in California. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Army Air Force and was a mechanic on a bomber squadron based in Italy. He later attended the University of New Mexico and San Jose State University in San Jose, Calif., where he received a degree in journalism. He and his wife, Betty, then moved to Lander, Wyo. where he reported on Wyoming's mining industry for a local newspaper and as a stringer for a national mining publication. He "broke" the story of Wyoming's first big uranium discovery in 1953. Mr. Epler then resided in Flagstaff, Ariz., before moving to Bisbee in 1958. He acquired the Brewery Gulch Gazette in 1960, Pay Dirt in 1968, and the Bisbee Review in 1971, which he then sold to the Wick family newspaper chain in 1974. He was awarded the Medal of Merit in 1993 by the Mining Club of the Southwest, and in 1990 his lifelong contributions to the mining industry earned him honors from the Society of Mining Engineers. He is survived by his wife, Betty of Bisbee; a daughter, Nancy Sullivan of Tucson, Ariz.; and a brother, Robert of Illinois. A memorial service will be conducted Tuesday at 7:30 p. m. Mountain Standard Time in Dugan Funeral Chapel, 18 Naco Road, Bisbee.

EPPERSON: Dene Tidwell Epperson, 65, of Bayard passed away . . Thursday in Richland, Wash., after a brief battle with lung cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family as she peacefully went home to be with her Lord and savior. She was born Aug. 3, 1932, to Howard and Mamie White in Malaga, and lived in Carlsbad until 1964. She was a postal worker in Hurley and Bayard until her retirement in 1993. She is survived by her husband, Marshall, of Bayard; daughters and sons-in-law, Denise and Bob Morris of Richland, Michelle Tidwell of Benton City, Wash., and Marsha and John Steelman of Benton City; a son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Robbie Tidwell of Benton City; sisters, Billy Horton of Clovis and Betty Bounds of Carlsbad; a brother, cleave White of Carlsbad; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Stephanie; her first husband, Charles "Lindy" Tidwell; and several siblings. Memorial services will be held Friday at 11 a. m. at the First Baptist Church in Bayard.

Mrs. Stella L. Erbacher, 82, a pioneer resident of Silver City, where she had lived for 58 years, passed away Tuesday at her home, 713 C St. She had many friends throughout the community. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Helen Rasmuson, Silver City and Mrs. Jean McGuire, Chico, Calif., and three sons, R. P. Erbacher Bayard; Francis Erbacher, Lynchburg, Virginia, and Roscoe Erbacher, Sun Valley, Calif. Funeral arrangements are pending arrival of relatives from California arid Virginia.

ERICSON: Craig T. Ericson, 34, of Belvidere, 111., passed away Monday, Feb. 15, as the result of an automobile accident. He was a carpenter 'employed by R&D Thiel Construction. He was born Nov. 4, 1964, in Elgin, III., the son of Thomas Ericson and Martha Hecht. Mr. Eric- son graduated from Larkin High School in Elgin and at- tended Elgin Community College. He married Debra A. Rezendes on Nov. . 17, 1990, in Elgin. He was a communicant at St. James Catholic Church and a member of United Brethren of Carpenters Local 2087. Survivors include his mother, Martha Nielson of Alma; his wife, Debra, and two daughters, Madeline and Corinne Ericson of Belvidere; a brother, Duane Ericson of Silver City; his maternal grandmother, Delores Hecht; and his paternal, grandmother Marion Ericson. He was preceded in death by his father, grandfathers, Leo Hecht and Chester Ericson, and a great-aunt, Beatrice Broker. The funeral Mass will be celebrated Privately at 1U a. m. at St. James Church in Belvidere. Burial will follow in Belvidere Cemetery.

Erle; Merline Lewis Erle, age 85, died at Mimbres Memorial Hospital. He was born April 13. 1899 in Colley, Pennsylvania and had resided in Deming for the last 11 years. He served in the U. S. Army during World War I. He was a member of Merry Mixers Club, Southwest Association of Square Dancers, New Mexico and National Square Dance Association and also of the American Legion. Funeral services were held at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Steven Chappell officiating. Burial followed at Ft. Bayard National Cemetery with graveside services accorded by Luna County United Veterans. He is survived by his wife, Helen Erle of the home address; two sons, Leslie Erle of Council Blugg, Iowa and Leonard Erle of Ontario, NY; one daughter, Linda Erle of Rochester, NY and two sisters, Eva York of Lancaster, PA. and Gertrude Plouse of Norwood, PA. Escamilla: Jose Melendrez Escamilla, 66, a lifelong Silver City resident, entered life eternal Tuesday at Gila Regional Medical Center. He was born Nov. 14, 1925. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, was a Fourth Degree member of Knights of Columbus Council 3388, and was retired from Chino Mines Co. Calling hours will be Sunday afternoon from 2-4 in Baca's Hillcrest Funeral Chapels. The prayer vigil will be Sunday evening at 7 in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, where the funeral liturgy will be held Monday morning at 10 with the Rev. George Reynolds officiating. The rite of committal will follow at the Silver City Catholic Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest. Survivors include his wife, Beatrice, of Silver City; his mother, Nemesia Escamilla of El Paso, Texas; five sons, Louie Escamilla and his wife, Emily, of Silver City, Xavier Escamilla of La Cruces, Henry Escamilla of Gig Harbor, Wash., Ernie Escamilla of Aloha, Ore., and Salvador "Chava" Escamilla of Hillsboro, Ore.; four daughters, Theresa Gachupin and her husband, Raymond, of Jemez Pueblo, Hope Marie Escamilla Gig Harbor, Mary Jane Gomez and her husband, Robert, of Silver City, and Angie Escamilla also of Silver City; two brothers, Tony Escamilla of Roswell and Mike Escamilla of El Paso, Texas; and five sisters, Josepha Escamilla of El Paso, Helen Carrreon of Palo Alto, Calif., Dolores Mills of Alamogordo, Emma Marqquez of El Paso, and Concha Rainville, also of El Paso. Manual M Escobar, 75, passed away Thursday, September 28. Mr. Escobar was a lifelong resident of Grant County. He was a retired employee of New Jersey Zinc Co., and was a veteran of World War II. He is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Dana Chavez of Hanover, Mrs. Elena Tafoya of Hanover, Mrs. Sofia Martinez of Baldwin Park California, two brothers, Pedro Escobar and Antonio Gutierrez both of Los Angeles. California, and numerous nieces and nephews. Rosary Recitation was Sunday, October 2 in the Hanover Catholic Church. Funeral Mass was recited Monday, October 3 in the Hanover Catholic Church with Father Jesus Espinosa conducting services. Interment followed in Fort Bayard National Cemetery with Military Honors. Escobar: Ernest "Ernie" Young Escobar, 25, a life time resident of Grant County, entered eternal rest Thursday morning. He was born Feb. 18, 1966, in Silver City. He was a member of the Catholic Church, and was employed as a mine sampler for Phelps Dodge. The vigil will be held tonight at 7 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, where the funeral liturgy service will be held Saturday morning at 10. Deacon Johnny Perez will officiate at both services. The committal rite service will follow in the Fierro Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest. Survivors include his wife, Vivian, a son, Eric Anthony, and a daughter, Candida Rae, all of Central; his parents, Emiterio and Mary Ellen Escobar of Fierro; three brothers, Robert Escobar and his wife, Sylvia, of Central, Raul Escobar of Bayard, and Steve Escobar and his wife, Liz, also of Bayard; and two sisters, Patty Enriquez and her husband, Chuck, of Bayard, and Sylvia Perez and her husband, Johnny, also of Bayard. He is also survived by his maternal grandmother, Conception Young; his in-laws, Caesar and Dolores Flores; two sisters-in-law, Corinne and Lillian Flores; one brother-in-law, Danny Flores and his wife, Gloria; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Honorary bearers will be the remaining family members and friends. He died with the wind in his hair, and his wings on his back, just the way he wanted. He will be deeply missed. Escobar: Manuel Escobar, 33, a carpenter, died Tuesday afternoon about one o'clock, the victim of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. City police received a call from a man, presumed to have been Escobar, asking that an officer be sent to 324 West Market St. right away. Officer Emmet Snapp, on duty at the headquarters desk, notified Officer Porfirio Horcasitas who immediately went to the house. He discovered the body in a bedroom of the house with a . 30 caliber rifle nearby. A note, carefully written in pencil, explained that financial matters were the cause for the act and contained a postscript which coincided exactly with the explanation of Mrs. Jane Terrazas, a next-door neighbor, concerning the gun used. Escobar: Vicente A. "Chente" Escobar, 73, a lifetime Silver City resident, entered life eternal Saturday at Gila Regional Medical Center. He was born April 5, 1919. Mr. Escobar was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He retired as a welder from the Grant County Road Department. Calling hours are from 2-9 p. m. today in Baca's Hillcrest Funeral Chapels, where the prayer vigil will be held at 7 tonight. The funeral liturgy will be held Tuesday morning at 11:30 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with the Rev. George Reynolds officiating. The rite of committal will follow at Fort Bayard National Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest. Veterans honors will be accorded by Allingham-Golding Post No. 18 of the American Legion. Survivors include his wife, Dora Escobar of the home; a daughter, Olivia Chavez, and her husband, Richard, of Hurley; three sons, Vicente Escobar Jr. and his wife, Yolanda, of Silver City, and Alex Escobar and his wife, Dora, of Bayard; three brothers, Gaspar Escobar of Deming, Luis Escobar of Hanover,and Emiterio Escobar of Fierro; and a sister, Isabela Molina of Los Angeles. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Casket bearers will be Alex Escobar Jr., Tony Escobar, Edward Aguayo, Robert Alirez, Robert Escobar and Adam Escobar.
