DAHL: Thelma Lucretia Braik Dahl, 79, died Sunday in Fort
Bayard. She was born Nov. 1, 1906 in Yates Center, Kan., and she lived most of
her life in Fulton, MO, where she was a librarian and a teacher at William Woods
College. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and the American
Association of University Women. She also worked as a hospital volunteer. She is
survived by her husband, Leif C. Dahl of Silver City; one daughter, Katharine
Dahl-Bredine of Silver City; one son, Nelson Dahl of Seattle, Wash.; and nine
grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the First
Presbyterian Church. Officiating will be the Rev. David Goble. Contributions may
be made in her memory to the Guadalupe Montessori School Scholarship Fund.
Arrangements are by the Wheeler Funeral Home.
DALE: A memorial service for Mrs. Melissa Dale, 91, was held in Alhambra,
Calif., August 21. Mrs. Dale came to New Mexico at the age of two in a covered
wagon with her parents and other relatives and lived in Otero County until 1925
when she moved to Silver City. She was a charter member of Tularosa Chapter of
the Eastern Star and had been a member for over fifty years. She is survived by
two daughters, Mrs. Paul Wright of Silver City and Mrs. Ruth Donaldson of South
Pasadena with whom she had made her home for several years, also three
grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Interment was in Live Oak Memorial
Park, Monrovia, Calif.
DAYLEY Jerry Dayley, 60, a resident of Silver City, passed away Wednesday at his
home. Arrangements are pending. Entrusted to the care of Baca’s Funeral Chapels.
DALRYMPLE: William L. Dalrymple, 68, died at his residence Dec. 30. Mr.
Dalrymple was a native of Palisade, Colo. and had lived in Grant County for the
past two years. He was a retired coal miner and was a veteran of WW II.
Survivors include two brothers, John of Mimbres and Hughie of Hugo, Colo.; and
several nieces and nephews. Graveside services were held Thursday, Jan. 2, at
the Ft. Bayard National Cemetery, the Rev. Bruce Benningfield, III, of the
Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd officiated.
DAMER: Tena Sylvia Damer, 88, passed away Jan.-- at Fort Bayard Medical Center.
Mrs. Darner came from northern Minnesota and lived most of her life in the
Midwest and Southwest. She has been living in Silver City for the past three
years. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Damer, in February 1994,
and by two brothers, Oliver Nelson and Leo Sansted. She survived by two
daughters, Bonnie Kelly and her husband Chuck, of Silver City, and Nancy
Flanigan and her husband, Larry, of Carlsbad, Calif; a sister, Fan -- of Ely, --
a brother, John Sansted of Inton, Minn.; a sister-in-law, Marie Mercati of Sun
City, AZ; five grandchildren, Debbie Flanigan, John Flanigan, Laura Merrill,
Jaine Wilcox and Daniel Kelly; and eight great-grandchildren. Memorial services
were held on Saturday --- at the Encanto community Church in, Phoenix with Rev.
James Rahh officiating.
DAMRON: Ellen Lanehart Damron, 87, died Monday, March 29, in the Big Spring
(Texas) Care Center. A graveside service was held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 1,
at Trinity Memorial Park. Rodney Tedford, minister of the Birdwell Lane Church
of Christ, officiated. She was born April 27, 1911, in Sublime, Lavaca County,
Texas, to John Thomas and Eveline Netterville Lanehart of Woodville, Miss. She
lived in many places in her early youth, including Jal, N.M., where her parents
homesteaded, and Delano, Calif. She graduated from high school in Barstow,
Calif. She married Minnice Aaron Damron on Sept. 28, 1931, in Carlsbad. They
lived in Crane until 1944 when they moved to Silver City. In August 1948, they
moved to Big Spring. A lifelong member of the Church of Christ, she had been a
devoted and active member of the Birdwell Lane Church of Christ since its
beginning. Among her many interests were flower gardening, camping, sewing,
quilting, crocheting, rabbit hunting, baking, ceramics and crafts of all types.

DANCER: Clark R Dancer husband of Mrs. Murtel Dancer died of a stroke Monday in
the State hospital at Las Vegas where he had been a patient for the past year.
Mrs. Dancer left immediately for Las Vegas upon receiving word of his death.
Funeral services were held today in Las Vegas followed by burial there.
DANCER: Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Dancer the past week received word of the death of
Cliff Dancer, a brother of Mr. Dancer, at his home in Los Angeles. The deceased
in recent years had been a visitor in Silver City. –
DANCER: Mrs. Murtel Dancer, 75, died at her home in Silver City, Jan. 12. She
had been a resident in the Grant County area for more than 40 years. She was a
retired English teacher in the Silver City School system. Immediate survivors
include one sister, Mrs. W.C. Yattes of Farmersville, Texas. Mrs. Dancer came to
the local area from Belen, NM, where she was a teacher. She was an active member
of the AAUW, Women's Club, and Grant County Republican Party. An active worker
at the Arenas Valley Community Church, it was her request there be no funeral
services of any type. She urged money be contributed to the Grant County Humane
Society. Mrs. Dancer willed her body to the University of New Mexico Medical
School in Albuquerque.
DANNELLEY: Final rites for Clay Dannelley, 55, who was found dead at his home at
Chloride and Gordon streets last Saturday, were held at 4p.m. Monday at Cox
Mortuary. A coroner’s jury had ruled that the deceased had died of a gunshot
wound, self inflicted. Dannelley, a Kennecott Copper Corp. employee, had been a
resident of this area for the past 43 years. He is survived by two Sons, Richard
and Robert; Silver City; a daughter, Mrs. Joe Frost, Hurley; his mother, Mrs. M.
L. Dannelley, Hurley; a brother Claude, Hurley; two sisters, Mrs. Willis Lacey,
Bayard and Mrs. Mary Odell, Silver City. Officiating at the funeral service was
the Rev. Arthur E. Bomers of the Hurley Community Church. Interment was at the
Silver City’ Masonic cemetery with the Hurley Masonic lodge in charge.
DANHAUER: Violet Evelyn Danhauer, 60, died Saturday near Faywood as a result of
an automobile accident. She is survived by her mother, Jewell Loveless Johnston
of Paris, Texas; a son, Paul Danhauer of’ Las Cruces; three daughters, Karen
Danhauer Giles of Mimbres, Sharon Lapoehn of Berthoud, Colo., and Gayle Danhauer
of San Diego, Calif. and three sisters, Helen Taber of Tucson, AZ, Zella Fox of
Aurora, CO, and Charlotta Jones of Mesquite, Texas: and one brother, Hubert
,Johnston of Lawson, Texas. Memorial services at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. James
Episcopal, at St. James and Main in Mesilla Park with Rev. Father Salazar
officiating. Arrangements are with Curtis-Bright Funeral Home of Silver City.
DANIEL: Norman Daniel, 63, Silver City, a veteran if World War 1, died last
Wednesday at Fort Bayard Veterans hospital. Funeral services were held Saturday
at 2:30. p.m. at the Cox Mortuary chapel, by the Rev. Henry Meredith, Fort
Bayard chaplain, and the Rev. A. R. Aman. Burial was in the Silver City
cemetery. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ethel Daniel; two brothers, Nolan,
Leadord, ID and Frank, of Hillsboro and five sisters, Mrs. Bessie Maxwell,
Silver City: Mrs. Olive Thompson Alfrieda, Ariz.; Mrs. Ruth Whitlock Duncan, AZ;
Mrs. Clara Adkins and Mrs. Maude Daniel, Long Beach, CA.
DANIEL: Geraldine Harrell Daniel, 70, of Silver City, a retired teacher and
watercolor artist, died May 6 at a nursing home in Stover, MO. She was the
stepmother of Joe V. Daniel Jr. of Deming. Mrs. Daniel, an elementary and
secondary schools teacher for 40 years, taught in the public schools in Deming,
in Glendale, Ariz., and at Stover. She was graduated from Central Missouri State
University, Warrenburg, MO, and received her master's degree from Arizona State
University at Tempe where she also did post-graduate work. She also did
post-graduate work at Western New Mexico University in Silver City. She was a
charter member of the new Signature Division of the New Mexico Watercolor
Society. Her work was accepted for exhibit in several of the society's shows,
among them one at the Albuquerque Museum in 1981. She also received two NMWS
merit awards. Her paintings have also been exhibited in the executive office of
the state Capitol in Santa Fe. She studied under the late Peter Hurd. She was an

DANIELS: Richard Anthony Daniels, 37, entered life eternal Monday at his
residence---
DANNELLEY: Death last Friday morning at Hillcrest General Hospital summoned Mrs.
Ethel Locks Dannelley, 86, a pioneer resident of Grant County. Born in Cooper,
Delia Co., Texas, Aug. 10, 1875, her family moved to Robert Leeo Tex where she
married Luther Dannelley of Ballinger, Tex in 1892. With her husband she moved
to Eddy County, New Mexico, where over a period of years she was a ranch woman
and member of the Methodist Church. There after the family moved to Grant County
in 1910, where Mr. Dannelley died in April 1943, and her youngest son passed
away in December of 1953. Survivors are a son, Claude Dannelley of Hurley; two
daughters, Mrs. Willis Lacy, Bayard and Mrs. G. C. O’Dell of Silver City; three
sisters, Mrs. Verta Cooke, Mrs. Ada Russell and Mrs. Nettie McClure, all of
Alpine, TX; 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Funeral services were
held at the Curtis Mortuary chapel Monday at 3 p.m. The rites were conducted by
the Rev. Ernest T. Berkeley of the Hurley Community Church and the Rev. Harold
E. ----
DANNELLEY: Claude Swain Dannelley, 90, pioneer resident of Grant County, died
Feb. 18 at Mimbres Memorial Nursing Home in Deming. Dannelley was born March 14,
1893 to Martin Luther and Ethel Locke Dannelley near Carlsbad, Eddy County. He
came to Grant County with his parents in 1910 and resided there until 1977 when
he and Mrs. Dannelley moved to Albuquerque. He married Effie Lee Crowder of
Carlsbad on July 18, 1916. He was retired from Kennecott Copper Corporation in
1958 as Casting Foundry Foreman. He was a member of the Hurley Community Church
and Hurley Masonic Lodge No. 55 AF & AM. He served as precinct chairman of the
Democratic Party and was a member of the Hurley Community Church Council for
many years. He was Grand Tyler, Grand Masonic Lodge of NM in 1974. Dannelley is
survived by his wife, Effie Crowder Dannelley; three daughters, Mrs. Etta Mae
Jennings of Lodi, Ca, Mrs. Evelyn L. Graves of Queen Valley, AZ and Mrs. Bernice
L. Arnold of Albuquerque, two great grandchildren; a sister, Mar ----
DANNELLEY: Effie Lee Crowder Dannelley, 99, a former Grant County resident,
passed away Monday at Mimbres Memorial Hospital in Deming. Visitation will be
held Friday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 at Baca's Hillcrest Funeral Chapels in
Silver City. The funeral service will be held there at 1 p.m. with David Strain
officiating. Interment will follow at the Masonic Cemetery in Silver City. She
was born May 30, 1892, to Oscar and Sara Jane Crowder in Eddy County. She
attended Western New Mexico Normal School, where she received her teaching
certificate, and taught school in Loving, Carlsbad, Chamberino and Hurley. In
1916, she married Claude Dannelley, and they made their home in Hurley until
1977. Mrs. Dannelley had been a resident of Deming since 1981. Her husband
preceded her in death in 1984. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and
the Hurley Community Church, and was active in several community activities over

DANSBEE: Mrs. Martha Dansbee, 84, a resident of Bayard, died at the family home
Wednesday morning. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today at the Cox
Mortuary Chapel, conducted by the Rev. J: C. Mangrum of the Church of Christ.
Interment will be in Silver City cemetery. Surviving are six daughters, Mrs. 0.
V. Wright, Lowell, Ariz; Mrs. I. W. Rhoads, Klamath Falls, Ore; Mrs. W. I
Townaley, Vanadium; Mrs. T. W. Brignell and Mrs. C. H. Bryan, Bayard; Mrs. H. G.
Carmin, Artesia; two brothers, B. F. Bryan, Cleburne, Tex., and J. J. Bryan,
Pottaville, Tex., and a sister, Miss Mary Bryan, Pottaville, Tex. Serving as
pallbearers at the funeral are A. R. Hood J. W. McCain, Glen D. Young, W. C.
Holland, C. D. Cole and H. F. Ford.
DARLEY: The Reverend Frederic Flack Darley, 87, died at Kalone, Iowa on Sept.
25. He was pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Silver City from
1927-1944. He was born March 11, 1884 in Fontandelle, Iowa the son of Alexander
M. and Annie Gow Darley. He received his elementary and high school education in
Pueblo, Colo. He graduated from Westminster College Denver, CO with a B.A. in
1909 and received his M.A. from Princeton University in 1911. He graduated from
Princeton seminary in 1912. He married Mary Wordsworth White of Denver, CO in
1912. She preceded him in death in 1939. He served as missionary to Valenzuela
under the auspices of the Presbyterian Church in the USA from 1912-1925. He
served later pastorates in Columbia, CA and Buckley, Washington. Since 1959 he
has resided at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona. Survivors include one daughter,
Miriam (Mrs. C F Delaney) Bandon Ore. and one son, Dr Frederic L Darley 1007 NE
Rochester ,MN; three grandchildren. Burial was in Kalona Iowa Sept. 26.
DARNELL: Helen L. Darnell, 96, a longtime Silver City resident, passed away
Saturday, Dec. 11, at Sunshine Haven Nursing Home in Lordsburg. Funeral services
will be held Monday, Dec. 20, at Milton Carpenter Funeral Home in Dixon, Calif.,
with interment to follow at Silveyville Cemetery. She was born Sept. 4, 1903, in
Camden, N.J., to Alva and Bessie Munyan Lawyer. She grew up in New Jersey and
spent many years on the family farm in Pennsylvania before moving in 1947 to
Roswell, where she was the director of the Walker Air Force Base Nursery. She
moved to Sacramento, Calif., in 1963 and from there to Tucson, Ariz., where she
remained very active in the child-care field. She moved to Silver City in 1988
with her family, and always enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren and great-
grandchildren, who were very dear to her. Mrs. Darnell loved to travel and was a
member of the Baha'i Faith. She was also active in the Valley Community Church
in Arenas Valley. She is survived by one son, A.D. Darnell ---
DARNELL: Brad Scott Darnell, 24, of Bayard, died Saturday morning in an auto
accident near Central. He was a 1983 graduate of Cobre High School; attended
Universal Technical Institute of Phoenix; and graduated in 1988 from Highlands
University. During high school he was a three-sport letterman; was all-district
for four years in basketball; was selected to the All-State basketball team, was
a member of the All-South basketball team; and was selected to the Rocky
Mountain All-Star Basketball team; and was selected as most valuable player at
Cobre High School in 1983. He was also a four-year letterman in basketball in
college. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Baca's Hillcrest
Funeral Chapels and the concluding services will follow at Memory Lane Cemetery
with Pastors Billy Foster and Jesse Liles officiating. He is survived by his
parents, Ron and Maxine Darnell of Bayard; a sister Terri Cervin and her
husband, Phillip, of Austin Texas; his grandparents, L.A. and Vivian Patton.
DARWIN: Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, March 6 for Dudley A.
Darwin, 77, of Glenwood, who died Saturday at Hillcrest General Hospital. Mr.
Darwin had made his home in Catron County since 1906, where he had been a
trapper, carpenter and miner. He had no known relatives. Graveside services were
held under the direction of Cox Mortuary with the Rev. Rhea Kuykendall
officiating. Burial was in the Glenwood cemetery.
DASHNAW: Charles Dashnaw, 86, a resident of Fort Bayard Medical Center, died
Wednesday, Nov. 22 at Fort Bayard. He was born Oct. 9, 1909 in Bratbora, Vt. and
worked most of his life in farming. Before he was hospitalized at Fort Bayard,
he was a resident of Green Valley Boarding Home in Arenas Valley. Cremation has
taken place with Mimbres Crematorium. No services are scheduled. Entrusted to
the care of Mimbres Crematorium and Baca's Funeral Chapels.
DAUGHERTY: Edith Leftault Daugherty, 66, died Sunday evening in El Paso, Texas.
Mrs. Daugherty was born in Bisbee, Ariz, and had been a resident of Grant County
since 1971. She is survived by her husband, Asa E. Daugherty of Central; two
sisters, Mary L. Smith of Silver City and Loretta Leftault of San Antonio,
Texas; and three brothers, Ernest Leftault of Silver City and Charles Leftault
and Francis Leftault, both of Bisbee, Ariz. Rosary recitation will be held at
7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Whee1er Funeral Home chapel and Mass of the
Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 am Thursday in the Saint Francis Newman
Center with the Rev. Tickle officiating at both services. Internment will follow
in the Fort Bayard National Cemetery, Serving as pallbearers will be Johnny
Sosoya, Marino Sosoya Jr. Johnny C. Agredma, Thomas C Gonzales, Ernest Leftault
and Frank Leftault. Arrangements by Wheeler.
DAUGHERTY: Minnie Elizabeth Daugherty, 80, a resident of Goldsboro, Texas,
formerly of Silver City, passed away Sunday, Feb. 7, at her home. She was born
June 29, 1918 in La Luz to William E. Huss and Bess (Virden) Huss. She married
Roy Daugherty on July; 30, 1935, in Bisbee, Ariz. He preceded her in death in
1989. A housewife and ranch woman, Mrs. Daugherty spent most of her life, in the
Alamogordo, Deming and Silver City areas. She was a member of the Church of
Christ. Survivors include a son, Dr. Bill Daugherty of Corrales; a daughter,
Beth Giraud of Goldsboro; a sister, Mona Huttanus of El Paso, Texas; seven
grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son,
daughter and grandson. Mrs. Daugherty's remains have been cremated and the ashes
will be buried in Alamogordo. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be
made to the Rankin Giraud Memory Scholarship Fund, Account No. 42734; New Mexico
State University, Box 3590, Las Cruces, NM 88002.
DAUGHERTY: Kathryn P. Daugherty, 80, a lifetime Silver City resident, entered
life eternal Friday at Fort Bayard Medical Center. She was born Nov. 15, l911,
in Silver City. She worked as a legal secretary and later owned Phillips Gift
Shop. Ms. Daugherty was the founder of Beta Sigma Phi, which was started in this
area in 1945. Calling hours will be from 1:30-2 Wednesday in Baca's Hillcrest
Funeral Chapels, where the funeral service will be held at 2 with the Chaplain
David Strain officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Lane Cemetery, where she
will be laid to rest in the family plot. Survivors include three nephews, David
Phillips of Sherman, Texas, Jonathan Phillips of Memphis, Tenn., and Larry
Phillips of Albuquerque. Entrusted to the care of Baca's Hillcrest Funeral
Chapels.
DAVENPORT: Billy Don Davenport, 40, of Animas passed away Sunday, May 2. Mr.
Davenport will lie in state at Lordsburg Funeral Home until 4 p.m. today.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Johnson Arena in
Animas with Mr. Ed Kerr officiating. Interment will be in the Middle Animas
Cemetery. Mr. Davenport was born Nov. 20, 1958, in Matador, Texas, the son of
Johnny W. Davenport and Jean Perkings Davenport. He married Jacque Johnson on
Nov. 20, 1978, in Animas. Mr. Davenport, is survived by his wife; his parents,
Johnny and Jean Davenport of Post, Texas; a son, Cody Davenport, and two
daughters, Destiny Davenport and Sky Davenport, all of Animas; a brother, Wes
Davenport of Florida; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Alfred and Gay
Johnson of Animas. Pallbearers for his service will be Gene Ray Johnson, Bryan
Jackson, Rusty Evans, Thelma Been, Steve Johnson and Rick Ferguson. Honorary
bearers are Chuck Burton, Jay Peterson, Nate Peterson, Jody Eddy, Richard Moore,
Spade Hopkins,
DAVENPORT: Judith L. Davenport, 36, a resident of Tyrone, entered into eternal
rest Saturday at her home. She was born in Lewiston, Idaho on Jan. 22, 1959 to
George and Nina Hasenoehrl. She was a school psychologist and Catholic by faith.
She and her family had recently moved here from Morenci, Ariz. She is survived
by her husband, Randy Davenport, and their three children, Nathan, Alex and
Katie, all of Tyrone. She is also survived by her parents, George and Nina
Hasenoehrl; her brother, Brian Hasenoehrl and his wife, Nancy; two sisters,
Cindy Green and her husband, Jerry and Diane Hasenoehrl, all of Lewiston, Idaho;
and her parents-in-law, Gerald and Ila Davenport of Cozad, Neb. Cremation has
taken place with Baca's Mimbres Crematorium. A memorial service will be held at
1 p.m. Wednesday at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Morenci. A memorial service
will be held in Lewiston at a later date. Entrusted to the care of Baca's
Funeral chapels and Mimbres Crematorium.
DAVENPORT: Teresa Bentford Davenport, 81, died July 8 in a San Diego Calif.,
hospital. She was born Oct. 2, 1905 in Central to James and Euresta Bentford.
Survivors include three brothers, Bill Bentford of Silver City; Steve Bentford
of Lucerne Valley, Calif., and Alford Bentford of Victorville, Calif. three
great-nephews, William F. Grimes of San Diego, George R. King of Albuquerque and
Jessie King of Silver City; a niece, Constance King of Silver City; one
great-niece, Della Ann Ritter of San Francisco, Calif; and 10
great-great-nephews and nieces. Services were held July 10 with the Rev Robert
Nikibord officiating in the chapel of Anderson-Ragsdale Mortuary in San Diego,
with burial in Sawtelle National Cemetery in Los Angeles.
DAVID: Sister Teresa David OSF Eucharist (religious nun) entered eternal life at
a retirement convent at Our Lady of Peace in Beaverton Ore. She was born Dec. 8
1903, on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, and returned to God Aug 15,
Feast of the Assumption. Sister Theresa David was a former Principal, teacher
and religious instructor at St. Rita's Parochial School Santa Rita Parish. She
and a staff of nuns from the Immaculate Heart Order of Tucson came to the old
town of Santa Rita in the early 1950's and remained until 1962. The school was
under the direction of the Rev. Pedro Ruiz, the Rev. Alesander Leoni and other
priests throughout the years. Sister Theresa served as Mother Superior for the
nuns who lived at the now the St. Francis Newman center Parish and campus
ministry in Silver City. Sister Teresa was an inspiration to the community of
Santa Rita. The parochial school under her supervision sent out many good
students She worked with the parents an helped the citizens of the community in
many ways--------
DAVIDSON: Grace P. Davidson, 78, died at Resthaven Nursing Home Wednesday
evening following an extended illness. Mrs. Davidson was a native of Silver City
and had lived in Grant County all of her life. She was born in Silver City, May
17th, 1893, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Causland who have preceded
her in death. On June 21, 1908, she married Luther Davidson who survives her.
She was a member of the Home Extension Club and Sewing Club. Survivors include
her husband, Luther of Central; three daughters, Mrs. Vida Mae Keene of Silver
City, Mrs. Myrtice Marshall of San Jose, Calif., and Mrs. Virginia Laverty of
Torrance, Calif., 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Funeral services
were held in the Curtis-Bright Chapel at 3 p.m. Saturday with interment
following in the Cemetery. The Rev. Clifton H. Henderson of the Episcopal Church
of the Good Shepherd officiated. Casket bearers were James Stone,
Brub Stone, Thomas P. Foy, James Wilson, Ernest T. Brown and Floyd Williamson
DAVIDSON: Samuel Davidson, of Santa Fe, was killed in a one car accident 23

combination of high speed and a curve in the road was the cause of the accident
according to State Patrolman Gene tow investigating officer.
DAVILA: Belen P. Davila, 88, died Saturday in Hillcrest General Hospital. Mrs.
Davila was born in Pinos Altos and had been a lifelong resident of Grant County.
She was a communicant of Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Silver City.
Mrs. Davila is survived by three daughters, Teresa Romero of Silver City, Eloisa
Bencomo of Stafford, Arizona, Lucy Lopez of Silver City, a son, Antonio P.
Davila of Pinos Altos, three sisters, Petra Madrid of California, Maria
Hernandez of Silver City, Manuela Ellison of Cliff, thirty-seven grandchildren,
seventy-seven great-grandchildren and ten great-great-grandchildren. Rosary
recitation was held Monday April 28 at 7:30 p.m. at the Curtis-Bright Chapel.
Mass of the Resurrection was held Tuesday at 9 a.m. at Saint Vincent de Paul

DAVILA: Gabriel Davila, 80-year-old grandfather of Benny Altamirano, of Silver
City, died Tuesday at the Altamirano home. The deceased came from Mexico to
Pinos Altos 55 years ago and worked there as a miner. Since 1945, he had resided
in Silver City. Survivors are the widow, Mrs. Belen Davila; four daughters, Mrs.
Teresa Romero and Mrs. Clara Arzaga of Silver City; Mrs. Eloise Bencomo of
Safford, Ariz., and Mrs. Lucy Lopez of Santa Rita; one son, Tony Davila of Pinos
Altos; 37 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Abigail
Fletcher of Hanover. A rosary service was held Wednesday at the Curtis Mortuary
Chapel. Funeral Mass was Thursday at St. Vincent de Pail Catholic Church, and
burial followed in the Hanover Cemetery.
DAVIS: Anna Christine Davis, 97, died June 5 at Fort Bayard. She was a member of
the Christian Science Society. Mrs. Davis was employed as a Dormitory House
Mother at Ritch Hall, Western New Mexico University, before her retirement. She
was a member of the Georgetown Chapter Order of Eastern Star, Silver City
Women's Club and Grant County Republican Women. Mrs. Davis is survived by a son,
John C. Davis of Silver City; one grandson, Carl E. Davis of Silver City; three
granddaughters, Christine Drangmeister and Winifred Taylor of Silver City and
Punkie Garrison of Las Cruces; two nieces, Mary Jane Fulkerson of Oklahoma and
Suzanne Wilson of Nebraska; 15 great-grandchildren and four great-

Santa Rita Hospital. Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon from the

Junction City, Texas, where he was born, May 7, 1885. He had spent most of his

DAVIS: Mrs. Bertha Davis, 92, of Arrey, the mother of Howard Bali, of Sliver
City ----. Mrs. Davis was a longtime resident of Arrey, the widow of A E. Davis,
rancher-farmer. Mrs. Davis had been in poor health for a number of years. She
died Sunday June 30 in Las Cruces. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Beulah
Ball, of Silver City and Mrs. Mary Moseley of Arrey; one son Sam Davis of
Medford Ore.; and six grandchildren.
DAVIS: Bill Davis, 72, of Fairacres passed away Saturday, Sept. 7, at William
Beaumont Hospital in El Paso, Texas. Mr. Davis was born May 24, I924 in Kiowa,
Okla., to Walter and Alma Griffith Davis. He served• with the Seabees on Guam,
and moved to New Mexico in 1956. He worked in road construction as a
heavy-equipment operator and began working with NASA after his arrival in Las
Cruces. He worked the Trans-Alaska Pipeline for four years. After returning from
operating engineers, he settled in Fairacres and farmed, enjoying his life and
friends. He was a member of Tulsa Lodge No. 71, Ancient Free and Accepted
Masons, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 10124 and the Fraternal Order of
Eagles. Mr. Davis is survived by his son. Billy Davis of Silver City; his
daughter, Lisa McCarty of Baird, Texas; his four grandchildren, Michael McCarty,
Todd Davis, Jordan Davis and KaiDee Davis; and his sisters, Clea Burke of Tempe,

DAVIS: Carl Elayer Davis died Sunday at his home in Silver City after an
extended cancer illness. He was born April 8, 1937, in the old Silver City
Hospital at Kelly and Cooper streets. He attended public schools in Silver City
and graduated from Western High School in 1955. He attended the U.S. Naval
Academy at Annapolis, MD, graduating on June 3, 1959. On the same day, he
married Gail Robidoux at the Presbyterian Church in Annapolis. After serving as
a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, he left the service and was employed at Kennecott
Copper, Chino Mines in a supervisory capacity. Mr. Davis had a wide variety of
interests. He enjoyed working in his local gold mine and in gold mines in Mexico
which were previously worked by his late grandfather. Cooper Davis. He owned and
operated an assay office. He loved restoring Model I Fords and at the time of

DAVIS: Carolyn Davis, 49, of Tucson, Ariz., passed away Tuesday at Kino
Community Hospital in Tucson after a brief illness. She was born June 20, 1943,
in San Diego. She is survived by her father, Al Botts of Silver City; a
daughter, Lori Davis of Tucson; and two brothers, Alton Botts of Fruntunat, KS,
and Gerald Botts of Silver City. She was predeceased by her mother, Faye Botts.
DAVIS: Clay W. Davis, a former long-time resident of Hurley, and the
brother-in-law of Mrs. Frank Lea of Hurley, died September 26 in Garden Grove,
CA. Immediate survivors include Mr. Davis's widow, Mrs. Authney Davis, two sons,

DAVIS: Death at Santa .Rita Monday claimed Colonel D. Davis, 37, for six years
employed as a locomotive fireman by Chino Mines Division, Kennecott Copper
Corporation. The deceased was born at Alma, Tex. He is survived by his mother,
Mrs. Potter, living on the old Mattocks ranch on the Mimbres; a brother, T. D.
Davis, El Paso, Tex., and two sisters. Funeral services were held at 5 p. m.

Mortuary chapel for Earl P. Davis, 74, who died Tuesday at his quarters, 720 N.
Arizona St. An inquest was held by Justice of the Peace Bob Johnson and the
coroner’s jury returned a verdict of death from natural causes, attributed to a
heart attack. Mr. Davis for some years had worked on Grant County ranches, his
last employer being Joe Bennett of The Upper Gila area. He had no known
relatives. Burial was to take place in the Silver City cemetery.
DAVIS: Mrs. Edward Franklin Davis, 77, mother of Maurice Davis of Silver City,
died at the family home the past week in Knoxville; Tenn. Burial took place in
Williamsburg, KY. Mr. Davis left 10 days ago and was at his mother’s bedside
when she passed away.

DAVIS: Mrs. Emma Davis, 79, Of Silver City, where she had lived the past two
years, passed away Tuesday night at a Silver City rest home. Survivors are her
son, Henry E. Davis, Jr., Hurley and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be

DAVIS: Etta Lou Whitley Davis, 92, a former resident of Tyrone, died Nov. 28 in
DeQueen, Ark. Mrs. Davis lived in Tyrone with her daughter, Betty Burchfield and
her husband, Curley, for five and a half years. She was born Jan. 7, 1899, in
DeQueen. Funeral services were held Nov. 30 in Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel in
DeQueen with the Rev. Joe Denton officiating. Burial was in Redman Cemetery in
DeQueen. Mrs. Davis was a member of the Methodist Church. Survivors are two

DAVIS: Frank D., 81, formerly of Silver City, died in Bloomfield on Dec. 24. He
was associated with Strong & Harris Trucking of Vanadium for many years. Mr.
Davis was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta, in 1991. He is survived by two
daughters, Margaret Davis Phillips of Albuquerque and Alice Davis Thomas of
Orem, Utah, two brothers; four sisters; l4 grandchildren and l5 great

DAVIS: Jack R. Davis of Ventura, Calif., died Nov. 11 and was buried there Nov.
15. He was 60 years old at the time of his death. Mr. Davis worked for the
Highway Department in Silver City, and for Kennecott Copper Corporation, before
moving to California. He was a heavy equipment operator. He was married to the
former Rosalind Nickel, sister of Frank Nickel, who survives him.
DAVIS: Joe Davis 7l, a former resident of Animas, entered into rest Thursday at
Fort Bayard Medical Center. Mr. Davis was born Nov. 8, 1922, in Douglas, Ariz.
Most of his life was spent ranching and farming. He was a member of the First
Baptist Church of Animas. He is survived by his brother, W.H. Adams of Douglas,
Ariz., and Animas; three nieces, Bettine Adams of Portales, Cheryl Jones of
Sacramento, Calif., and Tammy Jones of Sacramento; two nephews, Herman Adams of

DAVIS: John Cooper “Jack” Davis, 88, passed away Friday at his home in Silver
City. He was horn in Nacosari, Sonora, Mexico, on Feb. 23, 1909, to John Cooper
and Anna Dickopf Davis. His birthplace was a canvas tent that was the family
home while his father was working to develop copper mines in Mexico. The family
moved to Douglas, Ariz., when Mr. Davis was 3 years old, and later the family
moved to Santa Rita, where he spent his school years. Mr. Davis worked in
numerous mining-related activities over his lifetime, including a contract
mining venture with his father-in-law, Carl Flayer. He also worked for several
underground mines in Arizona and New Mexico, and finally as an electrician for
21 years for Kennecott at the Santa Rita mines. He is survived by his wife of 61
years, Mary Flayer Davis; two daughters, Diana “Punkie” Garretson and Winifred
D. Taylor; l- grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and
nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Carl Flayer Davis, in 1996 and

DAVIS: Lafayette L. Davis, 58, a resident of Grant County for 25 years and well
known in the Gila-Cliff area, died Saturday in the Veterans Hospital at Fort
Bayard. Born in Bisbee, Ariz., Mr. Davis had lived in the Southwest all his
life. He had been in ill health for several months. Surviving are his wife, Mrs.
Lolabelle Davis of Gila, and a daughter, Mrs. Phil O’Brien of Pasadena, Calif.
Funeral services were held Monday at 2 pm. at the Cox Mortuary Chapel, with
interment in the Gila Mesa cemetery. Rites were conducted by the Rev. Harold E.

DAVIS: Lolabel Godfrey Davis, 85, a resident of Deming, died in the Mimbres
Memorial Hospital Saturday morning. She was born May 15, 1900, in Waco, Texas,
and moved to Deming in 1974 from Silver City. Graveside funeral services will be
held Tuesday morning in the Cliff Gila cemetery at 10 am. The REV. David Goble,

DAVIS: Mrs. Louise Davis, 48, a resident of Silver City for 16 years, passed
away at her home, 103 Cooper St., last Friday. Death was caused by a heart
attack. Mrs. Davis was associated with her husband, Richard R. Davis, in the
operation of Mine Supply, Inc., serving as secretary of this corporation. She
was active in the social life of the community and a member of the Wacky Club,
the PEO of Douglas, Ariz. and other organizations, and had a wide circle of

DAVIS: Lucille Winifred Davis, age 61, of Bayard died Feb. 12, in her residence.
She was born April 26, 1920, in Missouri, the daughter of John and Pearl Payseno
Brady and lived in Bayard for the past four years. Mrs., Davis was a member of
the Music Mountain Bible Chapel of Truxton, Arizona. She is survived by one son,
Danny Davis, with whom she resided; one daughter, Kathleen Robar of Silver City;
four granddaughters Rita Cates of Arenas Valley, Robin Applehans of Bayard,
DeAunn Davis of Las Vegas, Nev.; and Maria Robar of Silver City; five
Great-grandchildren; two sisters, Florence G. Wolf of Port Archard, WA, and

Sealy, TX, but had been a Grant County resident for one year. She was a member

Mr. Davis was born in Corbin, KY and had been a resident of Silver City for 30

which was then known as Community Public Service Co. He was an active member of
the Silver City Rotary Club and the First United Methodist Church. Survivors

DAVIS: Pauline M. Davis, 86, died Saturday at Fort Bayard. Mrs. Davis was born
in Alabama, but had been a resident of New Mexico for 79 years. She attended
Baylor University and then taught school at Reserve for a short time. She moved
to Truth or Consequences in 1969 where she was a member of the First Baptist
Church and very active in the T or C senior citizens group. Mrs. Davis is
survived by a daughter, Ruth Greear of Central; three sisters, Lois Cardon of
Tucumcari, Ruth Bliss of Flagstaff, AZ, and Patty Boyd of Las Vegas, Nev.; two
brothers, Kleber Masterson of Arlington, Va., and Beal Masterson of Kingman,

DAVIS: Pauline Naegie Davis, 89, of Silver City passed away Sunday Oct. 3. She
was born June 24, 1910, in Colonia Oaxaca, Sonora, Mexico, to Marion Beck Naegie
and Harriet Salisbury Davis Naegie. Her father was on a mission for the Church
of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was the oldest of 10 children, besides
an older half sister. Funeral services will be held at Tombstone Community;
Church, 116 E. Alien St., in Tombstone, Ariz., Saturday, Oct. 9, at 11 a.m. A

DAVIS: Mr. Richard Davis, 71, suffered a fatal heart-attack at his home in
Sliver City Friday morning. Mr. Davis was born in Chicago, Ill., and had lived
in Silver City the last 32 years. He operated Mine Supply, Inc., and was well
known in the mining business. Graveside services were held at Memory Lane
Cemetery at2:00 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Clifton M. Henderson of the Episcopal
Church of the Good Shepard officiating.
Davis; Robert C. Davis, 68, died at his home in Silver City. Mr. Davis was born
June 25, 1916 in Farmington, NM, the son of Royal and Lillian Pond Davis. He was
a retired locomotive engineer and a lifetime member of the Brotherhood of
Locomotive engineers and the B.P.O.E. in Indio, Ca. Survivors include his wife,
Prue Latta Davis of Indio; a daughter, Mrs. Myra Davis Manderscheid of Cary, NC;
a son, Richard Kneizinger of Yupica, Ca; a brother, John Davis of Clayton, NM
and five grandchildren. Memorial services will be announced at a later date.

DAVIS: Robert Lawrence Davis, 72, passed away at his residence here in Silver
City March 23 1972, following a brief illness. Mr. Davis was a native of
Annapolis, MD and had lived in Silver City for the past four months. Survivors
include his wife, Elizabeth of Silver City; one daughter Mrs. Mary Walsh of
Silver City; one son, Justin of Pittsville Mass; one sister, Mrs. G E Harwood of
South Bend Ind.; 20 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Rosary services
were held in the Curtis Bright funeral chapel at 7pm last Friday with the
funeral mass being recited at St Vincent De Paul Catholic church at 11am last
Saturday. Internment followed in Memory Lane cemetery with the Rev Fr A James
Milano officiating. Casket bearers were five grandsons, Mathew Walsh, Peter
Walsh, John Walsh, Phillip Walsh, and Terrance Walsh and Neal Cryer.
DAVIS: Roberta Iona Slade Davis, 75, a resident of Bloomfield, died Monday, Nov.
11, at her home. Mrs. Davis was a former Grant County resident. She was born
July 22, 1916, in Farmington. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints. Survivors include her husband, Frank Davis of Bloomfield; two
daughters, Margaret Phillips and her husband, William, of Albuquerque, and Alice
Thomas and her husband, Daniel of Orem, Utah; a sister, Alice "Pansy" West of
Livermore, Calif.; a brother, Daniel E. Slade of Ventura, Calif.; 14
grandchildren; and10 great-grandchildren. Services were held Wednesday, Nov. 13,
at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Kirtland. Burial was in
the Kirtland Community Cemetery.
DAVIS: Ruby Jane Davis, 77, of Mimbres, passed away Wednesday at Fort Bayard
Medical Center. She was born Feb. 18, 1916, in Georgia to Joseph Aaron and Laura
Jane (Hester) Wyatt. She was a member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program
and active at the Senior Citizen Center in Mimbres. She is survived by three
daughters, Janice Simmons of Cuba, N.Y., Laura Frank of Mimbres and Kathy Jones
of Bolivar, N.Y., a brother, Sam Wyatt of Georgia; five sisters, Jewel Banister,
Lelia Houston, Hazel Hasty, Annie Holt and Ida Wilke, all of Georgia; three
grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. a graveside service will be held
Saturday at 3 p.m. at Maple Grove Cemetery in Friendship, N.Y. Arrangements are
by Curtis-Bright Funeral Home of Silver City.
DAVIS: Titus Terry Davis, 33, a resident of Tyrone, died Friday as a result of a
mining accident. Mr. Davis was a communicant of the Catholic Church; was born in
Sacaton, AZ, Feb. 12, 1955; and had been a resident of Ajo, Ariz., for 10 years
and a resident of Silver City for three and a half years. He was an employee of
Phelps Dodge Corp. for about 12 years. Mr. Davis is survived by his wife,
Jeanette Davis of Tyrone; two daughters, Christina Davis and Sara Davis, both of
Tyrone; one son, Arlen Davis of Tyrone; his father, Melvin Davis Sr. of Sacaton;
four sisters, Gracia Davis, Lavena Mix, Melvadine Miguel and Cathy Ahmsaty, all
of Sacaton; four brothers, Melvin Davis Jr., Delvin Davis, Calvin Davis and
Cedric Davis, all of Sacaton; and a paternal grandmother, Eliza Davis of Sacaton.
Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the St.
Francis Newman Center with the Rev. Bill Mayer officiating. Funeral services
will be continued Saturday at 7 a.m. in the Presbyterian Church in Sacaton.
DAVIS: Vina Davis, 94, a longtime resident of Cotton City, passed away Sunday at
Sunshine Haven Nursing Home in Lordsburg. She was born Oct. 21, 1899 to George
W. and Lucy J. (Callahan) Edwards Sr. in Pearsall, Texas. She married Joseph
"Tom" Davis n Dec. 28, 1927 in Lordsburg. She is survived by her two sons,
Johnnie Davis and his wife, Shirlene of Cotton City and Edmond Davis and his
wife, Ruby of Overton, Nev.; a sister, Mable Glenn of St. Louis; six
grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday
morning at Valley View Community Church in Cotton City with the Rev. Ralph
Hensley officiating. Interment followed in the Valley View Cemetery. Serving as
pallbearers were Don Burton, Kim Burton, Mike Davis, Mark Davis, Curtis Roark
and Jerry Veck. Honorary pallbearers were all her friends and family members.

DAVISON: Paul Gahagan Davison, 87, a resident of Silver City, entered into rest
Saturday at Fort Bayard Medical Center. He was born Feb. 2, 1907 in Johnstown,
Pa. to Philip and Iva (Gahagan) Sheridan. Mr. Davison was a retired industrial
painting contractor and was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses,
Bear Mountain Congregation. He was very fond of music and loved to sing. He will
be remembered by family and friends for his love of life, people and nature.
Survivors include his wife, Edna M. Davison of Silver City; a son, Philip
Davison and his wife, Martha, of San Diego; three stepsons, Lloyd Alexander and
his wife, Judy, of Peoria, Ariz., Daniel Alexander and his wife, Dee, of South
Port, N.C., and Garry Alexander of Tyrone; two daughters, Patty Carapezza of
Escondido, Calif. and Judy Pritchard and her husband, David, also of Escondido;
one stepdaughter, Laurel Bagley, and her husband, Eddie, of Silver City; one
brother, Robert Davison and his wife, Pauline, of Ellensburg, Wash.
DAWSON: Amanda Upshaw Dawson, 100, a resident of Silver City, passed away Sunday
at Fort Bayard Medical Center. She was born April 8, 1895 to Alex and Andora
(Lang) Upshaw in Sealy, Texas. She is survived by her nephews, Lucious Upshaw
and Herbert Fields, both of Silver City; a sister, Odessa H. Brookes of Fort
Bayard; and her dear friend, Harold Price of Las Vegas, Nev. She was preceded in
death by her husband, C.L. Dawson in 1957. Visitation will take place from 3-5
p.m. today in the Curtis-Bright Funeral Home chapel. Funeral services will begin
at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Earseye Ross officiating.
Interment will follow at Memory Lane Cemetery. Family members selected
Curtis-Bright Funeral Home to serve them.
DAWSON: Death on Aug 30 at the home at Catron County, claimed Charles Edward
Dawson, 56. Here for 10 years he had engaged in mining development operations
for a group of claims. Mr. Dawson was born at Hillsboro, Sierra County Sept. 7,
1890 being a pioneer of Southwestern New Mexico. Surviving are his widow,
Florence; a son Mr. Wilson B Dawson Hurley; two daughters Mrs. Florence
Kirkpatrick, Dawson, and Mrs. James E. Coker Silver City, Mrs. Earl Sorrels
Kansas City, Mo.; three sisters; Mrs. Gracie Saulsbury, Aztec , NM ; Mrs. Ethel
Moyer Arrey N M.; Mrs. Clady Lentmons, Ysleta TX and six brothers John
Albuquerque; Oliver, Caballo, N M; Gilbert, Arrey, NM; George, Albuquerque;
Elbert, Orlindi, Calif. In World War II, a son, Ed. was killed in action in the
Pacific Theater of Operations while serving as a crew member aboard an Anny PBY,
air-sea rescue plane. Funeral services were held Sunday at 3 p. m. at the First
Baptist church, with interment in the Masonic cemetery.
DAWSON: Funeral services wee held Monday at El Paso for Mrs. Jennie Dawson,
pioneer resident of Grant and Luna Counties. Mrs. Dawson suffered a heart
attack. Her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. And Mrs. Roy Nunn, Santa Ana, Calif.,
were at the bedside. Mrs. Dawson is survived also by two nephews, Alexander and
Richard Thompson of Deming. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Phineas
Headrick, Deming pioneers.
DAWSON: Mrs. Robert Bell received word the past week telling her of the death of
John Dawson in El Paso. Mr. Dawson suffered a broken hip two months ago and
never recovered. He was general manager of the Lower Diamond A ranch known for
many years and was well known to cattlemen in this section. He is survived by
his wife, Jennie, one brother. Cleave, of the Dawson Motor Co, of El Paso and a
stepson, Roy Nunn of Santa Anna Calif. Funeral services were held in El Paso
where burial took place.
DAWSON: The death of a former Silver City resident, Nelson Dawson, 71, his week
was reported to local friends. The deceased received fatal injuries in a street
crossing accident on Okinawa where he had been government employee for the last
eight years. At one time Dawson was associated with W. A Welsh Sr., in the
clothing firm of Welsh and Dawson. He was a member of New Mexico National Guard
and saw border service during World War I. He was married to former Nadine
Penniwell of Silver City. Survivors include a daughter and two granddaughters.
Internment was at Fort Roscrans National Cemetery, San Diego, Calif.
DAWSON: Wilson Martin Dawson died in his home in Hurley March 24. Dawson was a
lifelong resident of Hurley and a Past Master of the Masonic Lodge there. He is
survived by his wife, Margie; one son Lonnie L. Dawson of Arizona; a sister,
Nellie E. Sorrols of Albuquerque; his mother, Florence B. Dawson of Albuquerque;
and four grandchildren. Services were held in the Wheeler Chapel March 24 under
the direction of Bishop William Decker of the LDS Church. Burial followed at the
Ft. Bayard National Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers a
donation be made to the Heart Fund. All arraignments by the Wheeler Funeral

DAY: Mrs. Annie M. Day, 85, passed away Tuesday, March 8, at Resthaven Nursing
Home following a brief illness. Mrs. Day was a former resident of Catron County
and had resided in Silver City for the past two years. She was preceded in death
by her husband, Joe Day, in 1947. Mrs. Day is survived by three sons, Tom Day of
Hachita, William Day of Roswell and Sam Day of Florence, Ariz., ten
grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Survivors also include one brother,
Joe Morgan of Glenwood. Funeral services for Mrs. Annie M. Day were held Friday,
March 11 at the Glenwood Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Harold Dykstra
officiating. Interment followed in the Alma Cemetery. Servicing as pallbearers
were Buddy Alfred, Mike Acosta, George Thacker, Jim Spurgeon, Lewis Kelly and
Kenneth Shellhorn.
DAY: Funeral services were held Jan. 9 at the church of Christ at Cliff for Mrs.
Ava Day, 82, member of a pioneer Grant County family who died at the family home
after a long illness. Burial took place in the Gila Mesa Cemetery.
DAY: Geraldine Mae Day, 63, passed away in Animas at her residence. Services are
pending through Curtis-Bright Funeral Home.
DAYLEY: Jerry B. Dayley, 60, a resident of Silver City, entered eternal rest
Thursday at his home. He was the son of Mike and Iva Dayley, born July 10, 1935,
in Burly, Idaho. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Germany. He
was active as a Cub Scout leader, and in the H&K Gymkhana. He was president of
the Happy K-9 club. Mr. Dayley, was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic
Church. He was employed by J&S Plumbing of Silver City for 18 years. He will be
missed by all. He is survived by his wife, Gracie Dayley of the home; a
daughter, Lorrie George, and her husband, Elvin, of Silver City; three sons,
Tony Dayley and his wife, Ruby, of Belen, Mike Dayley and his wife, Belinda, of
Las Cruces, and Arthur Dayley and his wife, Julie, of Las Cruces; his
stepmother, Geraldine Dayley, and her daughters, Penny and Pain, all of
Prescott, Ariz.; and his grandchildren, Recanue Dayley, Samantha Dayley, Donna

DE CHANT: Linus De Chant, 50, died at his home on N. Arizona St. Sunday, from a
heart attack, suffered in his sleep. For the past five years he had been
employed by Chino Mines Division of Kennecott Copper Corp. Surviving is a
sister, Mrs. Clara Eaton of Silver City. The remains were sent by the Cox
Mortuary to Hays, Kan. Funeral services and burial will take place at Antonino,
Kan.
DE GIL: Juana Gomez de Gil, 69, a resident of Ascencion, Mexico, died Thursday
in Gila Regional Medical Center. She was born Nov. l4, l9l9, was a lifelong
resident of Mexico; was a member of the Catholic Church. Services will be held
in Ascension at a later date. Survivors are her daughter, Lily Madrid of Silver
City, and the grandchildren, also of Silver City. Local arrangements are

De La GARZA: Marvin, De La Garza, 46, a lifelong resident of Lordsburg passed
away Sunday at Gi1a Regional Medical Center. He was born July 13, 1950 to Manuel
De La Garza and Josefina Lopez in Lordsburg. He was a member of St Joseph's
Church. He enjoyed music, playing the piano and rock hunting. He was as avid
spelunker. Mr. De La Garza was preceded in death by his father, Manuel, in April
1994. He is survived by his mother, Josefina De La Garza his sister, Loreua Jo
De La Garza of Victoria, Texas; and his two brothers, Manuel Salinas Sr. of
Santa Fe and Edmund Salinas of El Paso, Texas. A prayer vigil will be held
Thursday at 7 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Lordsburg. A funeral Mass
will be celebrated Friday at 10 am, with the Rev. Virgilio M. Flores

DE LA O: Atanacio S. De La O, 102, passed away at his residence in Central,
Sunday morning following a brief illness. Mr. De La O was a native of Coralitos,
Mexico, and had lived in Grant County for the past 90 years. Survivors include
two daughters, Miss Ramona De La O of Central and Mrs. Frances Hernandez of
Bayard; one son, Ramón De La O of Marana, Ariz., 23 grandchildren, 77 great-
grandchildren, and 43 great-great-grandchildren. Rosary was said in the
Curtis-Bright Funeral Chapel at 7 p.m. Tuesday with the funeral Mass being
recited at the Santa Clara Catholic Church in Central at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
Interment followed in the Central Cemetery with the Rev. Fr. Paul Ragazinskas

DE LA O: Emilo De La O died last Sunday morning at Hillcrest General Hospital.
Mr. De La O was born in Central, June 30, 1930, and lived there all of his life.
He is survived by his wife, Mary, and one son, Emilo III of Silver City; four
brothers, Ruben of Silver City and David, Daniel and Samuel, all of Calif.; and
one sister, Isabel Valerio of Central. Rosary services will be held tonight at

DE LA O: Mrs. Juliana H. De La 0, 45, passed away Sunday at Hillcrest Hospital.

nursing home in Silver City. He was born May 4, 1909, in Gila, the son of Jose
and Angela Gonzales De La O. He lived for most of his life in Bayard where he

in Bayard. Calling hours will be today from 2-9 p.m. in Baca's Hillcrest Funeral

Sunday morning at the Fort Bayard Medical Center. He was born July 27, 1905 in
Santa Rita and was a retired grocery merchant in Silver City. Rosary services
will be Wednesday evening at 7 p.m., and the funeral Mass will be Thursday at 10
a.m., both in the San Lorenzo Catholic Church. The Rev. Thomas Perez will
officiate. Interment will follow at the San Juan Cemetery. Survivors include two

DE LA ROSA: Valente De La Rosa, 74, died in El Paso last Sunday. He was a native
of Durango, Mexico, and had lived in Bayard for the past 30 years where he was
the owner of a cafe. Survivors include his wife, Margarita of Bayard; two sons,
Ventura of Barstow, Calif., and Margarito of El Paso; three daughters, Mrs.
Biatriz Parra of Bayard, Mrs. Maria Louisa Chavez of Hinkley, Calif., and Mrs.
Socorro Bustamante of Silver Bell, Ariz.; 20 grandchildren; one brother, Felix,
of Chihuahua, Mexico; and four sisters, Miss Marta De La Rosa, Miss Urbana De La
Rosa and Miss Luz De La Rosa, all of Chihuahua, Mexico, and Mrs. Juliana Mendez

DE LA TORRE: Daniel De La Torre, 80, longtime resident of Grant County and a
retired employee of Chino Mines, Kennecott Copper Corp. died last Saturday in
the Deming Hospital. Rosary services were held Monday evening at the Curtis
Mortuary chapel. Mass was said at 9 am in the Bayard Catholic Church followed by
burial in the Hanover cemetery. Survivors are his wife: a son, J. Daniel De La
Torre; four daughters, Miss Maria De La Torre’; Mrs. Esperanza Alvarado, Mrs.
Carmen Perez and Mrs. Aurora Jaurequi and 14 grandchildren all of Bayard.
DE LA TORRE: Jose Telles De La Torre, 66, a resident of Bayard, entered eternal
life Wednesday, Aug. 11 at Fort Bayard Medical Center. He was born to Nestor and
Estanislada Telles De La Torre on March 26, 1933 in Santa Rita. Mr. De La Torre
was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the Army from 1954-56. He and
his wife, Lorenza, were married in Lordsburg in 1962. He retired as a truck
driver and laborer from Kennecott Copper Corp. and had most recently retired
from Porter Transportation as a school bus mechanic. Mr. De La Torre was also a
member of the New Mexico Mounted Patrol, was a former assistant chief of the
Bayard Volunteer Fire Department, was a member of the Santa Clara Senior
Citizens and the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, and was a volunteer at
Fort Bayard Medical Center. Mr. De La Torre was the beloved husband of Lorenza
De La Torre of the family home; loving father of two sons, Ricardo De La Torre
and his wife, Mary Jo, of Mimbres, and Ramon De La Torre and his wife Brenda.
DE LA TORRE: Jose Daniel "Chato" De La Torre, 68, of Central and a lifetime
resident of Grant County, entered eternal rest Sunday at Gila Regional Medical
Center in Silver City. He was born Jan. 3, 1927 in Santa Rita to Daniel De La
Torre and Soledad Chavez De La Torre and was a member of the Catholic Church. He
retired as a truck mechanic from Chino Mines. Visitation will begin at five this
afternoon at Infant Jesus Catholic Church in Hurley followed by a prayer vigil
at seven. The funeral liturgy will be celebrated at the church Wednesday
afternoon at two with the Rev. John Jusseaume, pastor, officiating. Concluding
services and interment will follow at the Hanover Cemetery, where he will be
laid to rest in the family plot. Survivors include his mother, Soledad C. De La

Tucson, Ariz. She was born April 9, 1914, in Hanover. She is survived by five
daughters, Jenny Barboa of San Diego, and Dora Lowe, Mary Ann Hamilton, Gloria
Berrellez and Clara Martinez, all of Tucson; one son, David Mitchell, also of
Tucson; and five brothers, Tom Mitchell, Jack Mitchell and Joe Mitchell of
Tucson, and Louis Mitchell and Paul Mitchell of Silver City. She is also
survived by 19 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Visitation was held
March 20 at Tucson Mortuary with the rosary being recited at 7 p.m. Mass was
celebrated March 21 at Santa Cruz Church and interment followed at Holy Hope

DE LA TORRE: Nestor De La Torre, 65, retired miner of Bayard, died Monday in the

DE LA TORRE: Soledad Chavez De La Torre, 99, a longtime Grant County resident,
entered eternal rest early Saturday at the home of her daughter in Central,
where she lived. She was born April 12, 1895 in Casas Grandes, Chihuahua, Mexico
to Teodoro and Dominga Chavez. She was a member of the Catholic Church and was a
homemaker. Visitation will begin this evening at five at Santa Clara Catholic
Church in Central and the vigil service will follow at seven, led by Deacon
Johnny Perez. The funeral liturgy will be celebrated at the church Tuesday
morning at eleven with the Rev. Michael Lindsay, pastor, officiating. The rite
of committal will follow at the Hanover Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest
in the family plot. Survivors include four daughters, Esperanza Alvarado and her
husband, Fernando of Los Lunas, Carmen Perez and her husband, Cruz of Las
Cruces, Aurora Jaurequi and her husband, Senaido of Albuquerque and Maria Elena
Contreras and her husband, Jose of Central; 15 grandchildren, 25 great
grandchildren.
DE SPAIN: Mrs. Cleta De Spain, former resident of Silver city died this past
week in Deming. She was the widow of George De Spain who served Silver City fire
department chief in the 40’s and is now Texaco Oil Co. distributor in Deming.
Funeral services were held in Deming followed by burial in the Mountain View
cemetery.
DE SPAIN: George Andrew De Spain passed away Wednesday, February 23 at Hillcrest
Hospital. Mr. De Spain was born Nov. 12, 1896 in Texas, and moved to Deming in
1945 where he served as Texaco Consignee until his retirement in 1966. He
married Sarah Wayland Housley in 1967 and moved to Silver City. Mr. De Spain was
active in Rotary, the Masonic Lodge, and the Shrine Lodge and was a member of
the Presbyterian Church of Deming. He is survived by his widow, Sarah Dc Spain
of Silver City, one daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Bowen of Santa Monica, Calif. one
stepdaughter, Mrs. Betty Boone of Anthony, N.Mex. a step-son, Jep Housley of
Silver City, nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral services
were held Monday, February 28 at the Curtis. Bright Funeral Chapel with Rev.
Marcus L. Burr of the Presbyterian Church of Deming officiating. Interment was
in the Mountain View Cemetery in Deming N.M.
DE WEERD: Louise A. De Weerd, 83, of Silver City entered into rest Friday
morning at Gila Regional Medical Center. She was born April 3, 1911, in Grand
Rapids, Mich., and had been a Silver City resident for nine years. Mrs. Dc Weerd
was a retired secretary and librarian. She loved golfing. Cremation has taken
place and private family memorial services will be held at a later date.
Survivors include her husband, JJ. De Weerd of Silver City; two nieces, Barbara
Wojtulewiez of Farmington and Mary Ann Bucek of Grand Rapids; and two nephews,
Charles E. Norton and David Norton of Grand Rapids. Entrusted to the care of
Baca's Mimbres Crematorium and Baca's Funeral Chapels.
DEAL: Jesse Dee Deal, baby son of Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy D. Deal who died June 17 in
the 97th U. S. Army Field Hospital in Frankfurt, Germany, where his father was
stationed, was buried In Memory Lane Cemetery the past week. Funeral services
were held at the Curtis Mortuary chapel. The rites were conducted by the Rev. A.
P. Tipton, of the Pentecostal Church. Besides his parents, surviving are his
paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. D.B Deal of Silver City and his maternal
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C J Moir of Hurley.
DEAN: Mrs. Ceyola Ophelia Dean 53 wife of Gus Dean, died it her home in Silver
City Wednesday, March 24. She had been employed by the Community Public Service
Company for 20 years, having retired Last December. The family lived here
several years ago then was transferred to Magdalena for a time before they
returned to Silver City about three years ago. In addition to her husband, she
is survived by two sons, Robert and Ray of Alamogordo, and one daughter, Mrs.
John A. Manion of Oklahoma City; three sisters, Mrs. Thelma Smith, Mrs. Kelsey
Ashley and Mrs. Linsley Simms; four brothers, Clay, Troy, Arvin and Lloyd Taylor
and four grandchildren. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. at
the Cox Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Douglas, assisted by the Rev. H. L
McAllister of the First Methodist Church of El Paso, in charge. Mrs. Dean was a
native of Dawson, Tex. Casket bearers were Sidney Watson, Webster Brewer,
Charles Hoirnan, Maurice Conner, Glenn Sherwood and Marvin Fuller. Burial was in
Memory Lane Cemetery.
DEAN: Desta Blanch Dean, 80, of Cliff died Wednesday afternoon in her home after
an extended illness. She was born April 16, 1909, in Briceville, TN. She had
resided in the Cliff-Silver City area for the past six months. Mrs. Dean was a
retired supervisor for Mountain States Bell and a member of the Pioneers
Association of Mountain Bell. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon
at 2 in the Trinity Presbyterian Church in Cliff with the Rev. Lavern "Bud"
Brown officiating. Interment will follow at the Cliff-Gila Mesa Cemetery.
Survivors are a daughter, Patricia Sue Perry of Cliff; a twin sister, Wilma

DEAN: Mrs. J. H. Dean, 94, mother of Gus Dean of Silver City, passed away last
week at her home in Milford, Texas. She was one of the oldest residents of this
County where she had lived since1890. At the time of her death, Mr. and Mrs.
Dean were on a visit to relatives in Huntsville, Texas, and left immediately for
Milford to attend funeral services for his mother which were held at the First
Baptist Church, the Rev. Don Berry officiating. Surviving are a daughter1 Mrs. H
V. Everett, Dallas; three sons, Ike Dean, Milford: John Dean, Hillsboro, Texas,
and Gus Dean, Silver City; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren-and one

DEAN: Jack Edward Dean, 63, a former Grant County resident, died Sunday in
Harrisburg, PA, after an extended illness. He was born June 11, 1926, in Ajo,
Ariz., and has been a horse-trader. Graveside funeral services will be held
Friday at 2 p.m. in Memory Lane Cemetery with Pastor Rod Chandler of the Mimbres
Baptist Church officiating. Mr. Dean is survived by a daughter, Carla Dean of
Tucson, Ariz.; a brother, Carl F. Dean of Albuquerque; a sister, Betty Shanks of
Mimbres; and two grandchildren. Casket bearers will be Martin Wright, Don

DEAN: Manuel Dean, 68, a longtime Bayard resident, died Tuesday evening in
Silver City. He was born Jan. 25, 1921, in Rowe, and retired after 36 years as a
concentrator operator with Kennecott. He served in the U.S. Army during World
War II, in the New Guinea Luzon campaign, and received the American Theater,
Asiatic-Pacific Theater, and Philippine Liberation medals. He was also a
parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church and was a member of The Holy
Name Society. Calling hours for Mr. Dean are today from noon to 5 p.m. in Baca's
Hillcrest Funeral Chapels. Rosary services will be held this evening at 7 in Our
Lady of Fatima Catholic Church and Mass of the Christian burial will be
celebrated Saturday morning at 10 in the same church with the Order of
Augustinian Recollect Fathers officiating. Concluding services will follow in
the Fort Bayard National Cemetery with veteran honors accorded by Allingham-Golding

DEAN: Marie F. Dean, 100, of Lordsburg, entered life eternal Sunday at her
residence. She was born July 16, 1982, in Michigan to the late Peter and Anna
Burmeister. She moved to Lordsburg eight years ago, moving there from Eagle
Rock, Calif. Graveside services will be held Friday at 10 in the morning at
Shakespeare Cemetery in Lordsburg with Eddie Kerr officiating. Survivors include
one son, Richard Moore of Lordsburg; one grandchild; seven great-grandchildren;
and 18 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sons, Paul,

DEAN: Ray Dean, division vice-president of the Texas-New Mexico Power Company,
died on Monday, Sep. 7, at an El Paso hospital following an extended illness.
Mr. Dean was born Feb. 24, 1919, in Milford, Tex., the son of Gus and Ceyola
Dean. He graduated from high school in Magdalena, N.M. and attended the
University of New Mexico. He married Louise Conner on August 19, 1939, and the
couple had two daughters, Jamie Flick of Alamogordo, and Nicki Shelley of Ft.
Bayard. Mr. Dean served as Division Manager of Community Public Service Company
(which was recently changed to Texas-New Mexico Power Company) for the past ten
years and served as vice-president of the company from Aug. 1, 1979 until his
death. He was a second generation employee of the power company as his father
had served as manager at Magdalena and his mother had been office clerk there
until that property was sold and they came to Silver City to continue their

DEAN: Funeral mass was read Tuesday in Our Lady of Fatima Church in Bayard for
Robert 0. Dean 44, who died in Silver City’s Hillcrest General Hospital
Saturday. Dean, a 27-year Grant County resident, was a furnace operator at the
Kennecott Copper Corp.’s Chino Mines copper reduction plant in Hurley. He was a
veteran of World War II. The Rev. A. A. Fuentes officiated at final rites and
burial was made at the Hurley Cemetery, with military graveside honors. He is
survived by his wife, daughters, Mrs. Rachel Sanchez, Bayard, Mrs. Betty
Barragan, Tucson, AZ, and Miss Barbara Dean, Bayard; one son, Robert P. Dean of
Bayard: two stepchildren, Lucy and Edward Arias, of Bayard; three brothers,
Pablo of Santa Fe, Sam of Commerce City, CO, and Manuel of Bayard; and four
sisters, Mrs. Urbano Martinez, Santa Fe, Mrs. Nick Herrera, San Jose, Calif.,

DEAN: Mrs. Tibureita O. Dean, 85, a resident of Bayard for the past 25 years
died at her home there Sunday. Survivors of the deceased include four sons, Paul
Dean of Santa Fe, Sam Dean of Denver, and Manual and Robert dean of Bayard; four
daughters, Mrs. Nick Herrea of San Jose Ca, Mrs. Eustacio Valencia of Sun
Valley, CA, Mrs. Urbano Martinez of Santa Fe and Mrs. Amado Gonzales of North
Hollywood CA; and a great number of grandchildren and great grandchildren. A
rosary service was conducted at 7:30 pm Monday at the Curtis Mortuary in Silver
City and the funeral Mass was held at 11 am Tuesday in Our Lady of Fatima Church
in Bayard with the Rev, Frank Sierra officiating. Burial was in the Hurley
Cemetery. Pallbearers were Max Martinez, Pat Martinez, Max Burner, Jake Dean,
Sammy Dean and Charlie Dean.
DEARING: Death last Saturday summoned Mrs. Ilma G. Dearing, Bayard. She was 77
years old and had been a long-time resident of Bayard. Her husband, Charles
Dearing, died last February. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at
the Cox Mortuary Chapel, with interment in Silver City cemetery. Surviving are a
son Lee Dearing, Bayard, and a grandson and granddaughter.
DEARING: Jerry Bartlett Dearing, 87, veteran of World War I who resident in
north of Hurley, died the past week at Fort Bayard Veterans Hospital. His widow,
Henrietta, survives him. Other survivors Include a son, Robert, and a daughter,
Beulah Lee, both of Hurley; two sisters, Mrs. Willie King of Pecos, Tex., and
Mrs. Thelma Davis who lives In Arizona; two brothers, Jamie and Ben Dearing, who
reside in Nevada. Graveside burial services were held at Fort Bayard cemetery by
the Rev. Casimir Pettraukas of the Central Catholic Church. Internment was under
direction of the Curtis Mortuary.
DEARING: Jesse Lee Dearing, 86, died Thursday in Gila regional Medical Center.
He had been a resident of Grant County for 45 years. He is survived by his wife
Frankie of Bayard; a daughter, Dixie Fowler of Silver city; a son Jesse Lee
Dearing Jr. of Bayard and five grandchildren. Graveside services will be held
Monday at 10am at Memory Lane Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeb Fowler, Jim

DEATON: Geneva Deaton, 82, of Arenas Valley entered eternal rest Monday, March
30, at Gila Regional Medical Center. She was born Nov. 7, 1915, in Grandfield,
Okla. Mrs. Deaton was a homemaker. Cremation has taken place and no services are
planned. Survivors include her husband, Bill Deaton of Arenas Valley, and a

DEBRAAL: C. J. DeBraal, 69, of Bayard died Sunday ‘in Fort Bayard Veterans
Hospital. A World War I veteran, he had lived in Grant county 37 years and’ was
a retired employee of the American Smelting & Refining Co. Survivors are his
widow, Mrs. Eva D. DeBraal; three sons, John and Bill of Bayard and James David
of Silver City; one daughter, Miss Jane Elizabeth DeBraal of Bayard three
grandchildren; one brother, W. M. DeBraal of Rochester, NY; one sister, Mrs. J.
B. Seaman of Cape Coral, FL. Funeral services were held at the Fort Bayard
Chapel at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Chaplain Henry Meredith officiating. Interment
was in the Fort Bayard Cemetery. Wheeler Mortuary of Deming directed internment.
DEBRAAL: Roberta Ann DeBraal, 19, died Sunday, July 2, as a result of injuries
received in an automobile accident. Miss Debraal was a lifelong resident of
Grant County. She was a graduate of Cobre High School where she was a member of
the National Honor Society and was president of the Student Council in 1976-77.
She was a past member of the Rainbow Girls. Miss DeBraal is survived by her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. John R. DeBraal of Bayard, a sister, Mrs. Cheryl Jean
Jones of Deming, a brother, John Robert DeBraal, Jr. of Bayard, her maternal
grandmother, Mrs. Margaret Garrigus of Newhall, CA and her paternal grandmother,
Mrs. Eve D. DeBraal of Bayard. Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 5, at
2 p.m. in the Curtis-Bright Funeral Chapel with Pastor Dick Ross officiating.

DEBRAAL; Eva D. Williams "Jimmie" DeBraal, a long time resident of Bayard,
entered eternal rest Sunday at Horizon Southwest in Silver City. Mrs. DeBraal
was born Sept. 14th 1913, in Pratt, NM to Eva D Miller Williams and Elwood
Robert Williams. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be greatly
missed. She worked a beautician for many years before her retirement. She was
proceeded in death by her husband, Cornelius John DeBraal, in 1963; her father,
in 1967; her mother in 1971, and her granddaughter, Roberta Ann DeBraal, in
1978; and her sister Vada Elaine Leach in 1993. She is survived by three sons,
John R. DeBraal and his wife JoAnn, of Bayard, William Elwood DeBraal and his
wife Berta, of Las Cruces, and James David DeBraal and his wife Sharon, of Las
Cruces; and a daughter Jane E Mitchell, and her husband James L Mitchell Sr. of
Bayard. She is also survived by seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren;
and three great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
DEBUSK: Rev. James H. DeBusk, 67, suffered a fatal heart attack at Hillcrest
hospital Sunday morning. Rev. DeBusk was a native of Sergeant, NE, and had lived
in Santa Rita for the past 15 months. He was a pastor of the Rio Mimbres Mission
Church. Survivors include his widow Katherine of Santa Rita, three sons, Jim of
Silver City; Robert of Phoenix, AZ and Sam of Thatcher, AZ; one daughter, Mrs.
DeLoris Krock of Chicago, IL, 10 grandchildren and one great grandchild; one
brother, Lewis C DeBusk of San-Diego, CA. Funeral services for Rev. DeBusk were
held in the Curtis Bright Funeral Chapel at 2 pm Wednesday with burial following
in Memory Lane cemetery. The Rev. Billy J Foster of the First Baptist church of
Bayard and the Rev. Donald Brent of the First Baptist church of Silver City
officiated. Casket bearers were Don Oliver, Charles McCargish, Darrel Beck, Earl
Beck, Rube Wofford, and Stanley Griffin.
DECHENE: Robert Eldyn DeChene, 58, of Silver City, died today in the Gila
Regional Medical Center. Mr. DeChene was a veteran of World War II and the Viet
Nam War. He is survived by his brother, John DeChene, of Medfield, Alabama.
Graveside funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Fort Bayard National
Cemetery with military honors being conducted by Allingham-Golding Post No.18 of
the American Legion. Arrangements are by the Wheeler Funeral Home.
DECK: Ben Deck, Jr., a World War II veteran, who was born In Silver City, died
Oct. 29 in San Diego, Calif. He had, resided in California the past several
years. He was the son of the late Ben Deck, Sr., who served as police chief of
Silver City and also as sheriff of Grant County. After the last war, Mr. Deck
was employed by Kennecott Copper Corp. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Susie
Espinosa Deck; daughter, Joyce, son, Jimmy; a grandson; his mother, Mrs. Ben
Deck, Sr., of San Diego; three brothers and a sister.. Funeral services were
held in San Diego, followed by burial in Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery with
full military honors.
DECK: Robert LaBeau Deck, 74, died Saturday. Feb. 1. Born Feb. 9, 1922, in
Silver City, he lived in San Marcos, CA, for 45 years. Retired from the San
Diego post office, he served with the Navy during World War II and graduated
from New Mexico State Teachers College. Mr. Deck was preceded in death by his
son. Mark Deck. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Virginia Deck of San
Marcos; a son, William Deck of Lakeside, CA; a brother, Arthur Deck of
Albuquerque; a sister, Eva Layer of Harbor City, CA; and grandchildren, Justin
Deck of Spring Talley, CA, and Jana Deck of El Cajon, CA. A private cremation is
planned with internment at San Marcos Cemetery. Allen Bros. Mortuary, San Marcos

DECOSTE: Ernest Joseph "Ernie" DeCoste, 84, passed away Wednesday at his home in
Hurley. He was born in Chicago on Nov. 10, 1906, the son of Arthur and
Bernadette DeCoste. He was preceded in death by a brother, Elmer, of Franklin
Park, Ill., in 1988. He is survived by his wife, Hester, of Hurley; his son,
Jerry and his wife, Carol, of Bozeman, Mont.; and five grandchildren, Michelle,
Matthew, Christin and David, of Bozeman, and Marc, who is with the U.S. Coast
Guard in Cape May, N.J. He is also survived by a sister, Adeline, of Sun City,
AZ; a brother, Herb, of Warren, MI; a brother-in-law, Edward "Sonny" Kennedy of
Tucson, Arizona and two sisters-in-law, Georgie Armbrust of Albuquerque and
Corrine McMahon of San Diego. Mr. DeCoste came to New Mexico in 1936 and was
employed with Chino Mines in Hurley for 34 years, retiring Jan. 1, 1971, as a
power plant foreman. On Jan. 10, 1991, Mr. DeCoste and his wife celebrated their

DECOSTE: Hester Kennedy DeCoste, 75, passed away Wednesday at her home in
Hurley. Born in Santa Rita on Sept. 12, 1916, she was the daughter of Nicholas
Kennedy Sr., and Isabel Garcia. She grew up in Hurley and graduated from Hurley
High School. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ernie
DeCoste; a brother, Nick Kennedy Jr.; and sisters Irene, Margaret and Lucille.
She is survived by her son, Jerry, and his wife, Carol, of Bozeman, Mont.; and
five grandchildren, Michelle, Matthew, Christin and David of Bozeman and Marc,
with the U.S. Coast Guard in Miami Beach, Fla. She is also survived by a
brother, Edward "Sonny" Kennedy of Tucson, Ariz., and sisters Georgie Armbrust
of Albuquerque and Corrine McMahon of San Diego. She married Mr. DeCoste on Jan.
10, 1939. Mrs. DeCoste was employed at the Hurley post office for 32 years,
retiring on Dec. 31. 1975. She was active in the Silver City Bowling League,

DECOSTE: Jerry Ray DeCoste, 56, of Colorado Springs, CO, formerly of Bozeman,
MT, died Thursday, Aug. 1, at Bozeman Deaconess Hospital following a sudden
heart attack. He was born Nov. 8, 1939 to Ernest and Hester (Kennedy) DeCoste in
Santa Rita. After graduating from Cobre High School, he received a degree in
chemistry from New Mexico State University and a master of business
administration degree from the University of Colorado. He and his wife, Carol J.
Cribb, married Aug. 12, 1967, in Springfield, IL, and made their home in Denver
until moving to Bozeman in 1988, and Colorado Springs in 1995. He was a member
of the Abundant Life Fellowship in Bozeman, where he was a church board member.
In Colorado Springs, he was a member of the New Life Church. He loved people and
enjoyed golfing and tennis. He is survived by his wife, Carol; three sons, Marc
Darin DeCoste and Matthew Christian DeCoste of Bozeman and David Jeremy DeCoste
of Colorado Springs; and two daughters, Michelle DeCoste Root and---
DEEMER: Funeral services for George Deemer, long time employee of Santa Rita
Store Inc. who died in his home in Santa Rita Friday, were held Monday afternoon
from the community church in Santa Rita with Hinman's mortuary in charge of
arrangements. Burial was made in the Deming cemetery. Mr. Deemer died of a heart
attack. He had gone to work as usual at the Santa Rita Store co. where he had
worked for 30 years, but fell ill and went home where he died shortly
thereafter. Surviving are Mrs. Deemer and a son, who lives in California. Acting
pallbearers were Russell Anderson, William Powell, Joe Lucero, Frank Lea, C.J.
Mitchell, and Tom Harrington. Honorary pallbearers were Fred Adams, H.E. Green,
F.M. Hickman, Ed Driscoll, W.E. Patton, Elam Head, John A. Nix, Dewey McLehaney,

DEEMER: A former well known resident of Santa Rita, Johnnie Robert Deemer, 43,
died of a heart attack Feb. 10, at Fort Hueneme, CA, where he was employed in a
civilian capacity as an electrician. At the time he was stricken he was working
as a lineman. Born in Deming, Feb. 13, 1916, Johnnie was the son of Mr. and Mrs.
George Deemer. His father, who passed away in 1948, was an employee for 30 years
of the Santa Rita Store Co. The Deemer family moved to Santa Rita in 1918 and
Johnnie attended the Santa Rita elementary schools. He entered service in the U.
S. Army in August 1942 being assigned to duty in the 68th Evacuation Hospital
Unit in the South Pacific. He was wounded during the landing of American forces
at Leyte in the Philippines. Following his discharge from the Army he took up

DEES: Ruby Lina Dees, 97, of Silver City entered eternal rest Thursday morning
at Gila Regional Medical Center. She was born Nov. 8, 1893, in Hermosa and had
been a Grant County resident most of her life. Mrs. Dees was a homemaker.
Calling hours will be from 5-7 this evening in Baca's Hillcrest Funeral Chapels.
Graveside funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 10 in Memory Lane
Cemetery with Mr. Frank Rooks and Mr. Russell Longshore conducting the service.
Survivors include a son, Gerald Dees of Cave Junction, OR; two daughters, Bessie
M. Zumwalt of Silver City and Linda Lee Cofer of Cottonwood, Calif., a brother,
Herbert L. Lee of California; three sisters, Mabel Horn of Silver City, Edith
Jenkins of Arizona and Ruth Culp, also of Arizona; 23 grandchildren; 54
great-grandchildren; and 19 great-great-grandchildren. Honorary bearers are all

DEFAUSELL: Melva Lorraine DeFausell, 58, was called back home to her Father in
Heaven on Tuesday at her residence in Gila after an extended illness. She was
born Oct. 8, 1933, in Safford, Ariz., to Henry "Hank" and Lena (Strawn) Allen.
She and her family lived in Safford until she was 6 years old. They moved to a
small town near Fresno, CA, where they stayed until war broke out in 1941. Her
father, Hank, wanted to be closer to his "roots," so they moved back to Mule
Creek, where he farmed for a couple of years. Then they moved back to Cliff,
where she lived until she wed Jack Ray DeFausell on July 17, 1950. To this union
were born two children, a son, Michael Wade, and a daughter, Kathleen Elaine.
Mrs. DeFausell completed her schooling at Cliff School and lived most of her
life in the Cliff area. There was a short period of time that she lived in
Silver City, where she worked for Cosgroves and South West Gas. She was then
employed by Pacific Western as a secretary for 15 years and remained the -----
DEGEORGE: Helen Irene DeGeorge, 80, a four-year resident of Silver City, entered
life eternal early Saturday morning at Gila Regional Medical Center. She was
born to Irene Daly and James DeGeorge on July 30, 1917, in Beloit, WI. She
attended Brother Dutton Grade School and graduated from Beloit Memorial High
School. She became a bookkeeper and worked in the Beloit area for many years,
keeping books. During World War II, she worked at an aircraft plant. She then
worked for many years at the ---------as a mental health technician until she
retired in 1978. She volunteered as a foster grandparent in Amboy, IL, schools
and in Hurley and Jose Barrios Elementary in Silver City. She was a communicant
of the Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara, in
1938; her parents, Irene and James DeGeorge; and two sisters. She is survived by
a sister, Marion Foster of Beloit; a daughter, Nancy Lovesee of Bayard; a son,
James DeGeorge II, and wife, Carol, of Amboy; nine grandchildren.
DEGRAFTENRIED: Hattie Helen DeGraftenried, 94, a longtime Deming resident,
passed away at her home early Saturday morning. Visitation will be held at
Baca’s Funeral Chapels in Deming this afternoon from 4-7. The funeral services
will be held there. The Rev Andrew Stevenson pastor of Grace Fellowship will
officiate. Concluding services and interment will follow, at Mountain View. She
was born Jan.1903 in Oklahoma Territory to Benjamin Johnston and Patience
Williams and the family moved to New Mexico as pioneers. On May 21, 1920, she
married R.P. DeGraftenried and they raised their children on some of the larger
ranches of New Mexico and Southern Arizona. She leaves two daughters, Joy
McGuckin and family and Jeanne D. Jones and family, all of Albuquerque: two
sons, Buster Bill DeGraftenried of Silver City and Dee DeGraftenried of Deming:
a brother, V. Johnston, and two sisters, Eula Locksa and Mildred Gaines, all of
California: 12 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren.
DEGRAFTENRIED: Rosser P. DeGraftenried, 74, a former area cattleman who had
resided in Deming for the past two years, died Saturday in the Mimbres Memorial
Hospital in Deming. He was part owner of the Deming Cattle Sales. DeGraftendried
was a member of the New Mexico Cattlemen's Association; and member of the Good
Shepherd Church in Deming. Survivors are his wife Mrs. Hattie Helen
DeGraftendried of Deming; sons Buster Bill of Silver City and Dee of Deming;
daughters, Joyce Rosslyn McGuckin of Albuquerque and Jeanne D. Sullivan of
California; his sisters, Kittie Swetnam of Santa Fe and Tottie Skidmore of El
Paso, TX.; a brother, Roy of Melrose, 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Tuesday in the chapel of the Wheeler Mortuary with
the Rev. Frank McPherson officiating. Interment followed in Mountain View
Cemetery, Deming.
DEHTAN: Funeral services for Harry LeRoy Dehtan, 71, of Willis, Texas, were to
be held today at noon in Cashner Colonial Chapel with Mr. Robert Pulliam and Mr.
W.R. Jones officiating. Interment was to follow in Houston National Cemetery
with Cashner Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Mr. Dehtan was born Dec.
15, 1922, in Mineral Wells, Texas, and passed away Tuesday in Conroe, Texas. Mr.
Dehtan was a member of Woodland Hills Church of Christ in Conroe and served as
an elder for 25 years at University Drive Church of Christ in Portales. He was a
charter member of the Kiwanis Club in Portales. He was also a roofing contractor
in Portales. An artist, he did still life oil paintings and wove Indian baskets.
Mr. Dehtan was a veteran, having served in the Army Air Corps during World War
II. Survivors are his wife, Frances M. Dehtan of Willis; his sons and
daughter-in-law, Harry LeRoy Dehtan Jr. and his wife, Beth Roiston Dehtan, of

DEISHER: Richard J Deisher, 75, of Hurley, who came to New Mexico from CO in
1938, died last Friday in Hillcrest General Hospital following an illness of
several months. He was an employee of Chino Mines Division of Kennecott Copper
Corp until his retirement in 1957 and later was an attendance officer for the
Cobre Consolidated School District, continuing in that position until his
illness. The deceased was a member of the Hurley Community Church; Hurley Lodge
No, 43, AF and AM; and Chapter No 43, Order of the Eastern Star. Funeral
services were conducted by the Rev. Ernest Berkeley, Monday at the Curtis
Mortuary Chapel. The Hurley Masonic Lodge held graveside services at the Masonic
Cemetery in Silver City. Pallbearers were Allard Bartlett, John Cooper, Dwight
Houston, Ralph Jones, Alton Matthews and Richard Pearson. Survivors are his
widow, Mrs. Ada Deisher, of Hurley; a daughter, Mrs. James E. Boone of Gunnison,
CO; and a brother, Harry G. Deisher of Vista, CA.
DEITER: Charles Marion Deiter, 59, of Silver City, a retired plumber who had
resided in this area for the past 30 years, died Sunday at Hillcrest General
Hospital. He was a native of Redfield, SD. Survivors include his widow, Mrs.
Dorothy Deiter of Silver City; a son, Jerry Deiter, of Fort Wingate; two
grandchildren; five brothers, Bill Deiter of Silver City, Clarence and John of
Redfield, Walter of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Roy of Compton, Calif.; and a sister,
Mrs. Elvira Shantz of Redfield. The Curtis Mortuary sent the remains to
Albuquerque for cremation. A memorial service was held Wednesday at the Curtis
Mortuary chapel by M. V. Mortensen of the Church of Christ Latter Day Saints.
DEJARNETT: Edward DeJarnett, 59, passed away Sunday after an extended illness.
Mr. DeJarnett was born June 3, 1928 in Drumright, Okla. He was raised in
Drumright and graduated from high school there. He attended East Central State
College in Ada, Okla., and received his bachelor's degree in education from
Eastern New Mexico University in Portales. He did postgraduate work at ENMU at
Denver University in Denver, Colo., the University of Nevada in Las Vegas, and
at Western New Mexico University in Silver City. Mr. DeJarnett spent 33 years as
an educator. He taught at the primary and secondary levels, grades four through
high school, as well as at the college level. He served at various levels in
education, as a teacher and as an administrator, in Hobbs and Roswell from
1950-75. Mr. DeJarnett served as the director of instruction at the Silver
Schools from 1975-78, then spent five years as assistant director of instruction
with the Hobbs Municipal Schools from 1978-83. After his retirement in 1983, Mr.

DEJARNETT: Edward R. DeJarnett, 78, passed away Tuesday, April 18. Mr. DeJarnett,
formerly of Houston, Tex., had been a resident of Silver City for the past three
years. He was a member of the Veterans of World War I of Houston and the Houston
chapter of Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Fauchon
Swanson of Las Vegas, NV, a son, Edward A. DeJarnett of Silver City, three
grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Survivors also include a sister, Mrs.
Lena Clark. Funeral services were Thursday, April 20, in the Curtis-Bright
Chapel with Rev. J.G. McClelland of the First United Presbyterian Church

DELANCEY: Margaret D. DeLancey, 73, a homemaker, entered into rest Friday at her
residence in Hurley. She was born Feb. 5, 1920 in El Paso, Texas to Calvin and
Alice May (Abel) Pierce. She was a member of the Hurley Community Church, United
Church of Christ, and a member of the church's women's aid society. Funeral
services will be held at Baca's Funeral Chapels Tuesday at 10 a.m. Interment

DELANEY: George V. Delaney, age 74, died January 16 in Ft. Bayard Medical
Center. Delaney was born in Buffalo, N.Y., on November 26, 1907, the son of
Michael P. and Anna Welch Delany. He was a retired New York State Trooper and
later the night manager for the student union at the University of New Mexico in
Albuquerque before retiring in 1973. He was a member of the Immaculate Heart of
Mary Catholic Church in Las Cruces. Delany is survived by his wife, Evelyn; one
son John Lee Delaney of California; two daughters Donna L. Doell of Macedona,
New York, Patricia K. Jones of Las Cruces and five grandchildren. Mass of the
Resurrection was celebrated Tuesday, Jan. 19, in St. Francis Newman Center
Catholic church under the direction of Rev. Fr. Vincent Caldron. Burial followed

DELANO: Franklin Delano, 50, died Friday afternoon in Silver City. Mr. Delano
was born in Clarksburg, W. Va., but has lived in Grant County since 1969 and was
a member of Bible Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Josephine of
Tyrone, NM, one daughter Deloris Arredondo of Mount Pleasant, TX, four sons,
Franklin Dean of Denver, Co, Michael Delano, U.S. Army, stationed at Ft. Polk,
Louisiana, Jeffrey, U.S. Army, stationed in Germany, his mother, Dolly Delano of
Clarksburg, W. Va., two sisters, Ruth Snider, Clarksburg, W. Va., Helen Noah of
Rogers, Ark., two brothers, Paul Dean of Baltimore, Maryland, Willard Delano of
Clarksburg, W.Va., four grandchildren, Samantha Dean, Nancy Dean, Michelle Dean
and Nikki Dean. Services were held at the Wheeler Funeral Home Chapel.

DELAROSA: Margarita De La Rosa, 90, longtime resident of Bayard passed away
Sunday morning at the Hacienda De Salud nursing home in Silver City. Funeral

DELATORRE: Vicente S. De La Torre Jr., 35, died at his residence in Bayard on
Sunday. He was born Jan. 16, 1959, and lived in Bayard his entire life. He was a
1978 graduate of Cobre High School and cherished his friendships and had a deep
love of the outdoors. Survivors include his parents, Vicente and Sylvia
(Sandoval) De LaTorre; three brothers, Joe of Bayard, Edward and his wife,
Sally, of Morenci, Ariz., and David and his wife, Lupe of Tucson, Ariz.; and his
sister Christina Benavidez, and her husband, David, of Bayard. Also surviving
are his maternal grandparents, Alfredo and Blasa Sandoval of Palm Springs,
Calif.; three nephews, Lalo and David De La Torre Jr. and James Benavidez; and
two nieces Ashley Benavidez and Dolores De La Torre. Visitation will be held

Grant County, entered into rest Sunday at Gila Regional Medical Center. She was
born Jan. 2, 1913 in Hurley to Eligio and Prudencia Gonzales Fajardo. She was a
communicant of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and was a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, Antonio F. Delgado and his wife, Emilia of Silver
City and Eduardo F. Delgado and his wife, Margaret of Arenas Valley; four
daughters, Anita Castillo and her husband, Ruperto of Silver City, Dora Ordonez
and her husband, Arthur Ordonez Sr. of Silver City, Molly Dominguez and her
husband, Luis Dominguez Sr. of Silver City, and Maria Montoya of Highlands,
Calif.; a brother, Eduardo Fajardo and his wife, Juana of Silver City; 32
grandchildren; fifty -one great-great-grandchildren; and one
great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Antonio P.

Bernice Whetstine and her husband, Larry, of Springville, Ariz., and Hilda

DELGADO: Death Monday in Silver City General hospital claimed Esquibel Delgado
37, Santa Rita, who until his health failed, had been employed for some years as
a miner in Grant County. The deceased was born in Mexico, coming to the United
States with his parents as a child. He is survived by his widow and four
children, Margarito, Rosario, Maria Louisa and Blaz; two sisters, Mrs. Guadalupe
Morales, Santa Rita, and Mrs. Trinidad Esqueda, El Paso and two brothers, Louis,
Santa Rita, and Juan, Wilmington, Calif. Funeral services were held in Santa
Rita Catholic church Wednesday at 5pm and burial took place in the Hanover
cemetery, directed by Cox funeral mortuary.

was born March 21, 1906 in Encisco, TX. She is survived by two sons, Pete
Delgado and Blas Delgado, both from Bayard; four daughters, Mrs. Felipe " Rosie
" Becerra of Hanover, Mary Martinez, Martha Delgado, and Martina Delgado all of
Central; 18 grandchildren , 1 great grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.

DELGADO: Jose Delgado, 87, died Monday evening at his home in Santa Rita where
he had lived for 33 years. Born in Mexico, March 19, 1860 he came to Santa Rita
in 1914 where he was employed at the Kennecott Copper corporation from 1914 to
1934 in the capacity of trackman, dumpman, and crusher. Survivors include two
daughters, Mrs. Guadalupe Morales of Santa Rita; Mrs. Trinidad D. Esqueda of El
Paso; two sons: Juan of Wilmington, Calif, and Louis of Santa Rita; a brother,
Pablo, of Los Angeles; and one sister, Canuta D. Lopez, of Santa Rita. Also
surviving are 34 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Funeral will be held
from the Santa Rita Catholic Church this afternoon at 5 o’clock, Rev Father
Pedro Ruiz officiating. Interment will take place in Hanover cemetery with Cox

morning in the University of New Mexico Medical Center in Albuquerque following
an automobile accident. He was born March 28, 1968 in Silver City and was a
member of the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Calling hours will be

be at 8 p.m. in the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Mass of the Christian

survived by his mother, Anita Delgado; a sister, Molly Dominguez; two nephews,
Louis Dominguez Jr. and Eric Dominguez; and two nieces, Brenda and Janette
Dominguez, all of Silver City. Casket bearers will be Louis Dominguez Jr.,
Arthur Ordonez, Tony Delgado, David Villagran, Alfred Goldsmith Jr., and Robert
Lopez. Honorary bearers will be Robert Wright and Edward Delgado.

home, at the age of 94. Calling hours are being held from noon to 3 today at

Mr. Delgado was born July 5, 1905, in Penjamo, Mexico, to Joe Lopez and Jesusita
Delgado He was owner and operator of a butane company. Mr. Delgado is survived

DELGADO: Marcos P. Delgado, 78, a lifelong resident of Santa Clara, entered life
eternal Friday morning at his residence. He was horn July 21, 1918, in Silver
City to ‘the late Marcos and Guadalupe (Peña) Delgado. Mr. Delgado was a retired
miner and a communicant of St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church. Calling
hours will begin at 3 Wednesday afternoon at Baca’s Funeral Chapels with the
prayer vigil beginning at 7 in the evening. Deacon Bill Holguin will recite the
rosary. The funeral liturgy will be celebrated Thursday morning at 10 at St.
Vincent’s with the Rev. Rod Garvey officiating. Interment will follow at the St.
Vincent de Paul Catholic Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest. Survivors
include four daughters, Olivia Lujan and her husband, Horacio, and Mary Orrantia

DELGADO: Martha Ogas Delgado, 84, a resident of Hanover, entered into rest
Monday at her residence. She was born April 25, 1910, in Gila to Jorge and
Rafaela Ogas. She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She is survived by
her husband, Luis L. Delgado of the home; four sons, Luis Delgado, Jr. and his
wife, Mary, Moy Delgado and his wife, Rachael, all of Bayard; five daughters,
Nora Sedillos and her husband, Reynaldo, of Las Cruces, Lily Duran and her
husband, Alex, of Silver City, Teresa Galindo and her husband, Manuel, of
Bayard, Genevieve Ramos and her husband, Benny, of Silver City; and two
brothers; Tomas Ogas of Central and Cipriano Ogas of Santa Rita. She is also
survived by her daughter-in-law, Lucille Delgado of Bayard, the surviving wife
of her deceased son, Richard Delgado; 32 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren;
and one great-great-grandchild. Calling hours will be from 2-4p.m. today at
Baca's Funeral Chapels with the prayer vigil at 7 p.m. at Our Lady Fatima
Catholic Church in Bayard.

was a Nurse Tech II at Fort Bayard Medical Center and was a member of Santa
Clara Catholic Church. Survivors include her companion, Valente Gutierrez of the
home; two daughters, Betty Ochoa and her husband, Ramon, of Bayard, and Margie
Delgado and Guillermo “Chapo” Chavez of Santa Clara; a brother, Pete Delgado,
and his wife, Angie, of Bayard; two sisters, Martina Villalva and her husband,

DELGADO: Death Monday claimed Nicolas L Delgado, 52, Bayard at his home. He had
been ill for some time. The deceased was born in Mexico, and came to the United
States at the age of 16. In recent years he had been employed by Chino Mines
Division, Kennecott Copper Corporation. Surviving is his widow, Mrs. Pabla
Hernandez Delgado, three brothers and two sisters. Funeral services were held at
Santa Rita Catholic church Wednesday, at 4pm conducted by the Rev Fr P----
Interment was in the Hanover cemetery directed by the Cox Mortuary.
DELGADO: In a Christmas Eve stabbing affray in the yard of a home at 12 and Gold
Ave., Silver City, Pablo Delgado died instantly Tuesday abut 10 pm, when the
blade of a knife wielded by an assailant pierced his heart. Officers summoned to
the scene arrested Francisco Guevara, 43 and jailed him as the alleged slayer. A
third man, Antonio Delgado, was taken to the hospital for treatment of knife
wounds received in the fight.
Jealousy over a woman was the motive officers said, after questioning Guevara
and Antonio Delgado. Justice of the Peace Andrew Rauglan ordered an inquest
today at which witnesses were expected to give evidence, piecing together the
story of the tragedy. The body of the victim was taken to Cox Mortuary where
funeral arrangements were pending. Delgado was unmarried.
DELGADO: Raymond Puentes Delgado, 45, of Bayard passed away Thursday, Feb. 4 at
his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Aug. 5, 1953, in
Silver City to Richard and Lucille Puentes Delgado. Mr. Delgado was employed as
a computer technician for the Cobre Consolidated School District and was a
veteran of the .U.S. Army, honorably discharged in 1975. He is survived by his
wife, Kathie; two daughters, Marcella Teran and her husband, Danny Ray, of
Anchorage,, Alaska, and Erika Trujillo of Silver City; a stepdaughter, Vanessa
Lechuga, and her husband, Luie, of Hurley; his mother Lucille Delgado of Bayard
three brothers, , Ralph Delgado of Tucson; Ariz., Randy Delgado and his wife,
Annette of Phoenix, and Richard Delgado Jr. and his wife, Christine, of Sierra
Vista, Ariz.; and a sister, Priscilla Barela, and her husband, Eddie, of Bayard.
Other survivors include three grandchildren, and 'numerous nieces, uncles aunts
and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Ogas D
DELGADO: Reynaldo “Junior” Delgado, 33, a resident of Deming, passed away
Wednesday, July 22, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Tucson, Ariz. Visitation was held
Sunday evening at Baca’s Funeral Chapels in Deming. The funeral service was held
today at 10 in the morning at River of Life Church with the Rev. Jerrold Lawson,
pastor, officiating. The concluding service and interment followed at Mountain
View Cemetery. Mr. Delgado was born Nov. 17, 1964, in Deming to Reynaldo P.
Delgado Sr. and Elena Milo. He was a graduate of Deming High School. He married
Michelle Saenz on Aug. 31, 1991, and was employed by Phelps Dodge Corp. in
Hurley. He attended the River of Life Church and was a dedicated and loving
father. Survivors include his wife, Michelle Delgado, two daughters, Gabrielle
Monique De1g~ido and Danielle Rae Delgado, his parents, Reynaldo P. Delgado Sr.
and Elena M. Delgado, and two sisters, Lenny Piñeda and Linda Morales, all of
